China Provinces vs EU Countries vs India GDP Comparison (1993-2018)

  • All Chinese provinces, countries from the European Union, and India are compared in this video in terms of annual GDP from 1993. In the 1990s, with the exception of Taiwan, there was no Chinese province that was even comparable to most European countries. After China joined the WTO in 2001, many provinces, including Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Shandong started to prosper in an unstoppable fashion.

Many people don't realize how modern the big cities (mainly coastline) in China have become... it looked way different in the 1990s.
Germany is just Germany - they always had that technological spin on their side. But it's interesting to see how some very small countries in Europe (with 8 to 10 million people) like Netherlands, Switzerland and Sweden are competitive - also industrial powers.

First of all , no we are not backwards ... atleast by the thinking of our people. Being backwards has nothing to do with a country being rich or poor. It just depends on your upbringing. For example , Saudi Arabia is one of the richest countries but at the same time they are one of the most backward countries in the world as well. And yeah I am well aware of the fact that many Indians comment that our country is super Developed / rich. Actually they don't know the difference between GDP and per capita GDP , and as India has the third largest economy , they assume that India is a very rich and developed country ( although some parts in India are really rich and developed ) but a country as a whole , we still have a long way to go. Also westerners should not always behave like racists against India , you will never see an Indian criticizing other nations until they criticize India. Also those people who think we are rich are just a minority , most of us are well aware of the fact that our country is still developing. And about the British I personally have mixed feelings , yes they did plunder India there is no doubt about that but now it's 70 years since our independence so we shouldn't be making excuses for the British..the ones responsible are the UPA government..they suck hard man

I am surprised by the claim that in 2008, Guangdong became the first province to surpass Taiwan since Qing Dynasty. First, Taiwan was colonised by Japan between 1895 and 1945. Then, after re-unification with the Mainland still under ROC rule, Taiwan politically split again when the Kuomintang lost the Civil War. At this time, Taiwan's population was still very small compared to the large provinces on the Mainland, and while it may have been somewhat more developed as a part of the Japanese Empire, I'd be surprised if Taiwan's GDP could exceed all of Sichuan, Shangdong, Henan, Guangdong or Jiangsu at the time, as they all had much larger populations.

It's actually an unfair comparison because in chinese political system the main cities like beijing, shanghai, hongkong are not inclued in the province they originally belong to. For example, Shanghai was part of Jiangsu province, Beijing was part of hebei province while hong kong was part of guangdong province. And all those cities have nearly more than 30% GDP of the province they originally from. While EU countrie are all real countries, If you count UK or France's GDP but exclude the GDP of London or Paris then UK and France's GDP will be extremely lower...
