      Well...they are to blame for not producing a Kotor 3. It was nearly in production when Bioware was bought out. Mass Effect took Precedent as well as Dragon Age. The MMO was pawned off to a separate portion of Bioware in Texas I believe. Of course EA wanted to have an MMO under their belt. Everyone wants in on the next best MMO that will milk them money.
      That being said, they could be in a position to develop a Kotor3 once they figure out that will make them a lot of money. I get the feeling Disney and EA want to be mutually beneficial towards each other, so all we get is awful Battlefront games that reference the films.
      The corporate control of this IP is truly fucked. Even though Disney completely dissolved all Star Wars lore as not canon, they have this goal of trying to keep people indoctrinated. I could care less about episode 9 and I would not want Disney to make an Old Republic style movie because they would never be able to show the complexities of situations. As well as cutting a ton of the story to fit it in some nice trilogy.

      No there wont be one... the new owners (disney) have already stated, (in a way) that their story will be original.. even though it's off the basis of an already and well produced story... it's all legends my friend.. and any new "old, old" star wars stories will be cannon above what we've witnessed today... as far as Disney is concerned, Revan never existed period.

She wasn't the emotionless calm jedi, she was strong-willed and principled even if she never says a word, and the writing for a lot of the player choices reflects that pretty well. I going to quickly explain the events of Knights of the Old Republic 2 for those who are not familiar. I chose not to include it in the video, because it's a relatively well known story, and the length would've been increased by a good 5 minutes!
    Meetra returns to known space, and it's captured by a HK-50 droid (who is a bounty hunter), and is taken to the peragus fuel station to wait for pickup. The HK-50 kills all of the miners on the space station, and the deaths unintentionally sustain her, and it reawakens Meetra's ability to hear the force! She escapes the facility after a near miss with the sith lord Darth Sion, with the help of Smuggler Atton Rand and the mysterious Kreia.
    She arrives at Telos, and is taken into custody by the police, because they believe she destroyed Peragus. In the meantime, the Ebon Hawk is stolen. She takes a space shuttle down to telos' surface, and meets former friend Bao-Dur. They then find a hidden jedi temple in the polar regions of Telos, where she finds former Jedi Master Atris.
    She is then told about the surviving, but hidden Jedi Masters on the Planets - Onderon, Nar Shaddaa, Dantooine and Korriban. She goes on an adventure to reunite to jedi, as a means to find out what happened to her. Once she reunites them, The Jedi reveal that she cut her own connection to the force, as a means to save herself. The Jedi try to sever Meetra again, because they fear her ability to drain the lives of others. Kreia, interrupts, and kills the Jedi, revealing herself to be Darth Traya, and also revealing her plan to destroy the force itself.
    Traya returns to Malachor V, and in the meantime, the Sith Lord Darth Nihilus attacks Telos. Meetra goes to aid Telos, and defeats Nihilus with the help of the Mandalorians. She then travels to Malachor 5 to end Traya. She is halted by Darth Sion, and she ultimately helps him to let go, and die. She then finds Traya in an ancient sith academy deep inside the planet and defeats her. She escapes Malachor, after it is destroyed by Bao-Durs remote, who reactivates the Mass Shadow Generator for a second time, and destroys the planet.
    That is the entire plot of Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords. Of course, there is a lot more to it, but that is the basic outline for the story!

    I feel I speak on behalf of the _Kotor_ fans when I say the second instalment was the true ending for the Exile. What happened thereafter was left to the fans to ponder. What came after in the books and later games were not true to the originals. Revan should have remained masked and somewhat silent and The Exile was on par with Revan, if not a better warrior but with Revan being more strategic- perhaps.
    They should continue the story in a Third instalment and simply act as if the others didn’t exist 😂.

    I think the reason I hate the fate of Revan and Meetra in the novel is because, in a franchise that kinda/gets off on its happy endings, I feel like these two, Bastila included, were warranted some. These weren’t just characters that we saw and fell in love with (Luke, Leia, Han, etc), but characters who we actually were. Characters who we spent hours, if not days or weeks, embodying. And to see them essentially get washed to make way for the MMO just hurts me. I love The Old Republic, but I tend to ignore the Revan stuff, because the fates of the characters just sours me.

Didn't care that much for Bastila due to how annoying she was in KotOR 1 (the memes about her being so defiant of Malak while he was torturing her, only to turning DSide in the next in-game 5 minutes, were hilarious tho, ngl)

  • @suiko2fan2
    @suiko2fan2 7 лет назад +199

    To me there is a difference between the Jedi Exile and Meetra Surik, which is strange to say, but not unreasonable. I say that because the character of the Jedi Exile in KOTOR II was very powerful and had a very strange connection to the force as she was a wound in the force and created intense force bonds, etc...
    By Contrast, Meetra Surik in The Old Republic: Revan by Drew Karpyshyn, which is where she gets her canonized name and gender is just a secondary character that while a strong light side jedi is nothing special. Karpyshyn really tones her down compared to her game incarnation, which I get why as the book is primarily about Revan. but still, the author did her a grave misservice in the book. I know they had to write things a certain way for the SWTOR game that was coming out and needed things to line up properly for the direction that game was taken. Regardless, I think the Exile got the short end of the stick.

    • @100StarWars
      @100StarWars  7 лет назад +70

      I echo your thoughts exactly. Although I like the name 'Meetra Surik' and her being a female character, that's about it. They're definitely different characters in my eyes too. The Drew version of The Exile is so disrespectful to the character Chris Avellone created for KOTOR 2. Which is funny, because The Revan character that Drew made for the book 'Revan' was so disrespectful to the character he had created for KOTOR 1 😂

    • @peterparker1683
      @peterparker1683 6 лет назад +11

      100% Star Wars Well in all fairness I doubt that the outcome of the book was even Drew’s vision. Think about it. You don’t give your baby a very embarrassing and disappointing end. I believe it was BioWare that told Drew what the outcome should be so they could line it up with their sub par mmo

    • @Cailus3542
      @Cailus3542 6 лет назад +30

      I absolutely agree. Meetra’s appearances in the book and SWTOR were a severe insult to the character. All of KOTOR 2 seems to be glossed over as having not happened, or as being irrelevant, which is really thoroughly frustrating. The book in particular is poor with this, completely ignoring the destruction of the Jedi Order, but the MMO does the same. Meetra pretty much saved and rebuilt the whole damned Jedi Order, but in all of the Star Wars EU, her name has never been spoken aloud.
      So...yeah. Sad times. She is such a wonderful character, one of the most intriguing Jedi we’ve ever seen, but Bioware just threw her away as disposable canon fodder.

      It was the only way she could fulfill the role Karpyshynn wanted, which is a massive crutch in his writing - when he needs something to happen, the skill, power, and experience of a character means nothing. She's powerful enough to dissolve into the Force and become a Force spirit to strengthen Revan (an unusual ability in the Old Republic), but not powerful enough to see Scourge's sudden treachery.
      It's why each character in both KotoR I and II get captured over and over again (often by chumps) while still being able to overthrow Malak, Sion, Nihilus, and Traya.

    • @companyoflosers
      @companyoflosers 6 лет назад +3

      she didnt see scourge's betrayal coming because he did not decide or intend to betray them until the last second where he had his final vision. his betrayal wasnt a true betrayal but a set-up to pave the way for the jedi who would eventually kill the emperor. he was still on their side even when he was killing meetra. thats why she never saw it coming, because there was no treachery present in his mind.

    • @SequentiallyCompact
      @SequentiallyCompact 6 лет назад +5

      I can actually buy that but I'm a bit too ready to see problems in Karpyshynn's writing when they seem to be consistent with other genuinely poor moments. It's been 4 years now since I started corresponding with you and on this video. After I had watched all of Darthycey's videos on Meetra Surik the Jedi Exile i was curious and fascinated to know more about her and that's when I discovered your RUclips channel. Going back to your last video I also enjoyed watching Meetra's story arc from KOTOR 2 but I have to say I liked how Darthycey changed the ending of Meetra being killed by Lord Scourge when rescuing Revan. Meetra Surik's story arc deserved a better ending and I agree with you that SWTOR treated her character terribly in the game. Your friendship has meant a lot to me my friend

It also means so much to me that you've also put up with me for this long😂only 4 episodes of Clone Wars left and I'm not happy about it. We have no more Star Wars content after Clone Wars ends because the Mandalorian won't return until October and it's just rumor going around about a sequel to the Rebels series. I love your channel, your content, and especially your writing and narrative style. It makes me wish you’d consider writing SW short stories and novellas, especially about Revan. Not necessarily about changing his history, so to speak, but maybe using artistic license to do a story about some mini adventures to fill in the spaces between his major plot points. And of course something similar with Meetra, Bastilla, Satele, Tasiele, and all the other ‘real’ SW heroines.

    TOR ruined both Darth Revan and the Exile with the book. They shouldn't had man the characters with a defined template and ret-con everyone's choices to the writers own. They should've just either avoided the characters or not be directly involved. Kinda makes me think on that subject, what if Emperor vitiate created some sort of ripple in force with hes obscene dark side sorcery and she was one that got affected on opposite side of spectrum, her soul becoming negative in a way cause of emperor. Kinda like same thing like in movie Unbreakable, emperor being like matter and her being like anti-matter. I agree with you on how sadly they were written in. So many ppl would not play the mmo if not for revan and the exile. Revan had more power than any protagonist we've seen in this star wars universe. Able to take on the full power of the star forge by himself, defeating bastilla with the star forge powering her. Then defeating countless droids and triumph over malak who could regenerate himself over and over. Near invincibility. And the exiles power to drain her enemies of the force and master there battle forms, find there weakness and use them against her enemies. Yet in the mmo they were overpowered on many occasions. Revan is a fan favorite and kotor 1 was game of the year for a reason and it's still one of the best star wars stories of all time. Kotor 2 is able to rival its story only with the restored content mods.

  • @DBArtsCreators
    @DBArtsCreators 6 лет назад +37

    Everything was amazing! ...Until TOR. Damn them for the bad writing of Revan, the Exile and their associations. So much wasted potential.
    One thing that always pissed me off is how the Exile apparently becomes a Force ghost after her unceremonious death (seriously, the woman was a war machine. She shouldn't have been that easy to kill). Hoe exactly could she, a wound in the Force, a breach cut off from it that didn't have a true connection to it after the Mandalorian Wars, manage to become a Force ghost, which is effectively a sentient spirit within the Force!? Hell, if they needed her spirit they could have done something more interesting by having her be more of a sentient echo, not a Force ghost but a Force absence. Not sure how that would work, but it'd be better than making her a generic Force ghost!

    • @100StarWars
      @100StarWars  6 лет назад +5

      I really think that makes sense. Like an absence that can be felt and heard like a ghost, but not a ghost. I like it! But yeah, I don't like how she died either or their treatment of any of the characters.

    • @DBArtsCreators
      @DBArtsCreators 6 лет назад +2

      Thanks! Thought it would have made the most sense; it could be called something like a Force shadow, a presence parting it and flitting through it rather than emerging from it. Like in life, the shadow of her could cause disquiet and unease in those near it due to still being a wound.
      Anyway, yeah, the games did not treat any of the old characters well. Even Revan is a shell of a character compared to the background we got before. Would of been interesting if they had actually kept with the original game in his case I think - that Revan himself was gone, and the person the Jedi had made out of him was his own individual, merely bearing the memories of the one who came before rather than being the same man with amnesia (so slightly similar to Steven in the cartoon 'Steven Universe').
      If I may further blabber on - one theory I've seen that the games actually give a lot of weight for is how Revan and the Exile were not friends but rivals, perhaps even ideological enemies. It almost mirrors the Sith Triumvirate - the Jedi General Triumvirate of the Mandalorian Wars. Kreia, SIon, Nihlius mirroring Revan, Malak and the Exile.

    • @100StarWars
      @100StarWars  6 лет назад

      Hmm, maybe they were rivals. But it's always stated that Meetra was his most trusted ally. Would he most trust his biggest rival?

    • @DBArtsCreators
      @DBArtsCreators 6 лет назад +1

      It's far from unheard of. There are many accounts in both reality (Churchill and Stalin would be the first example coming to mind for me there) and fiction of skilled rivals, friendly or not, having to work together for one reason or another, and the rivals will typically trust in each other simply because they both know the other can get the job done well at minimum.
      Besides, I'm not certain the Exile is ever called Revan's most trusted ally in KotOR 2 (the MMO and its books/comics may say such, but I don't trust them much due to how badly they treated the past content of their world). The Exile certainly had some form of mutual respect for Revan, and Revan certainly saw her as useful, but it seems far more likely that he trusted Malak over the Exile.

    • @100StarWars
      @100StarWars  6 лет назад +1

      Oh I don't doubt that he trusted Malak more, afterall, they were like brothers more than allies. But in my headcanon, Meetra and Revan were extremely good friends, as well as trusted allies.

    After all these years Kotor has been out, it still never ceases to amaze me what depths the story and characters reached. The dialogue and lore are so rich. The arrogance and one-sided nature of the Jedi is put on display. The Jedi are no longer a group to be admired, but instead almost scorned for remaining aloof from the conflicts across the galaxy in their self-righteousness.
    George Lucas created an amazing universe in the original trilogy, but I much prefer the conflicts in the Old Republic. There's so much more grey area to explore. The new trilogy really set a new low for Star Wars. The deeper themes were completely ignored for a $ grab.

  • @Search4Views

    After learning about her story post KotOR 2, I truly wish they'd left off with her rebuilding the Jedi order. It would have been plenty lazy enough to suit them too I'd wager lol. The way I like to see it is that Revan's role was a costly journey to save the Repubic from the negligence of the Jedi order, and Meetra's role was to rebuild the Jedi better afterwards.
    Would have been an infinitely better legacy than simply running off shortly after KotOR 2 to be a sacrificial supporting character that was discarded in the service of Revan's continuing story. I love Revan too, but she was every bit the deeply motivated *protagonist* in her own story that he was of his, and she deserved to keep that status. Taking that from her was simply disrespectful to the character, her fans, and the series as a whole. 😤 😅

    I think sometimes the stories that are hinted at are better than the answers we get. Before SW:TOR, I assumed that Revan and The Jedi Exile went off to stop the Ancient Sith, a looming threat that no one knew about except Revan and Kreia, that threatened to destroy the whole galaxy. Considering they are still ancient history by the time of the movies, I assumed that they must have succeeded, a story that was easy to believe given their sheer power. No one saw them again, they just took one for the galaxy, because that's what heroes do. SW:TOR relegated them to minor side characters once they were no longer in the hands of the player, which was the main reason I refused to play it. At least Bioware didn't make the same mistake in Dragon Age: Inquisition, where the Hero of Ferelden is conveniently off on an important quest elsewhere, so their badassery can't be contradicted. I consider the Jedi Exile's "Wound in the Force" and it's implications to be the greatest story Star Wars has ever told in any medium.

      I think I read something a while back that said the story wouldn't revolve around the Hero of Ferelden if i'm not mistaken?

    • @Maxbeedo2
      @Maxbeedo2 6 лет назад +1

      I'm doubtful there ever will be a Dragon Age 4 considering most of the creative team left Bioware this year. If they do, it will be almost impossible to satisfy everyone with how their own Hero's story goes, though I'd appreciate the effort. There are way more permutations to deal with compared to Revan or The Jedi Exile. I know I would love to see the Hero, Hawke, and the Inquisitor team up, but I don't know if they'll ever have the resources to handle something like that with what they lost this year with ME: Andromeda and how much pressure they're under to make Anthem succeed. It would be simpler to leave little hints about the Hero and not trounce on anyone's dreams.

    • @100StarWars
      @100StarWars  6 лет назад +1

      That's true. I really couldn't care for Anthem, It's just a stunt to jump on the destiny train.

    Quick question where the hell was Bastilla Shan during the Dark Wars, she shows up at the end if your Revan was light side, but they never explain where she's been or why none of the other Jedi seem to acknowledge her presence. p.s. Who was more influential Bastilla or Meetra

    • @100StarWars
      @100StarWars  5 лет назад +1

      Bastila was hiding to protect her and Revan's son - That's a good question... I'd say Meetra. Meetra was vital to the reconstruction of the Jedi philosophy as well as the order itself. She was a key figure in saving the republic from the Mandalorians, and brought down arguably the greatest threat in galactic history in Nihilus.
      Bastila on the other hand played a part in redeeming Revan, and her battle meditation swung the tide of the Star Forge conflict, that's about it.

    My friend I've come back to this video because this is where it started for me 2 years ago in April 2017 when I first started corresponding with you. After watching Darthycey's videos on Meetra Surik I wanted to know more about her and that's when I discovered this video and your channel. I've enjoyed all your videos and the friendship you've shared with me on your knowledge on Star Wars. My friend I've missed you because it's been 3 months since your last video, I hope your not quitting RUclips because it would really be a shame.
    On other issues I found out that the Clone Wars series is coming back in November, Star Wars Celebration is coming up this month and Mark Hamill is voicing Chucky for the reboot of Child's Play!!! I was shocked when I heard they asked Mark to voice the killer doll but then again I couldn't believe it was him who was voicing the Joker in the Batman series. He will always be Luke Skywalker to me so I wish he wasn't going to voice Chucky!!! My friend I hope you'll be coming back soon, take care and may the force be with you. George

    Who is the Jedi Exile?
    An awesome character that got ruined by Bioware and Drew Karpshyn(I loved the Bane novels, but I don't think he even knew about the lore of TSL when writing "Revan").

    Meetra Surik is an alright name. What, were you expecting her to be named Karen or Joe after yourselves?? I have no problem with the name, I have a HUGE problem with what they did with her in that novel, not THAT pisses me off, and as far as I am concerned, there is no story beyond KOTOR II, until we get KOTOR III.

    I strongly agree with you. I personally disconsider any of the stories people made after the KOTOR series and also any development related to the MMO. Obsidian rushed as hell still can make some of my favorite stories in the SW universe. They should have their work respected.

    So good I guess I had to watch it again. At 5:34 where Revan is shown with the other Jedi, and all turned to the Dark Side (save Meetra), it looks as if the Jedi in this image all look like Revan.
    Is this simply an artistic choice for some particular subject, or did his followers, and specifically these Dark Jedi, adopt his helmet, armor, and cloak as a uniform of sorts?
    Also, at 12:33, when you stated Meetra was “unable to become one w the Force…,” was that because of her choice to have her spirit remain with Revan, or was there something beyond her control that prevented her transition?

    It would be interesting if Meetra returned. She is, in a sense, an anomaly in the force. Not able to fully pass on into the force. May be interesting if she was able to reincarnate in some way.

    13:12 YES x 1000 We need to let EA know how they fucked up a good franchise and revitalize the developers as well as the main writer to recon the story and produce the KotOR 3 we’ve wanted for 10 years.

    I absolutely agree. Revan and Meetra are exceptional characters and two of the most well-defined Jedi characters we’ve ever seen, in either the old or new canon. Their story is just so wonderful, filled with heartbreak and epic wars and all of that good stuff. I desperately hope that the KOTOR story is given a proper remake in the new canon, and given that Malachor is in Rebels, it’s a nice dream to keep alive.
    Oh, I don’t know. Am I crazy to be hoping for a full live action or animated TV series? The first season chronicles the Mandalorian Wars (Revan, Meetra and Malak), the second season chronicles the Jedi Civil War, the third season chronicles the Dark Wars and the fourth season chronicles Revan and Meetra’s struggle against the True Sith. It seems like ready made excellence. Am I crazy to hope for that when Disney are churning out a dreadfully boring Han Solo film in 2018?

    SWTOR the MMO completely butchered the endings for both Revan and the Exile. Almost everything about their characters were thrown out the window. Revan, for example, was renowned as a brilliant commander and the greatest strategic mind of the age, yet every thing he was reputed to have done/planed or was actually portrayed as doing in TOR was "Dr.Evil" (from Austin Powers) level amateurish.
