EPISODE 8: The Recycled Pallet Wood Cabin build continues! It starts off with me alone in the Cabin doing some work on the inside, Dad then joins me later for some more pallet wood projects! hope you enjoy- Mike
you should tighten the screws in the corner brackets evenly, as in screw all of them in half way then do the rest. It can bend the brackets or even the screw and sometimes strip them
I've been watching this series and it's been enjoyable. When I was a little girl, he built me a log cabin play house and he took me with him to get the wood, he let me hold the boards still while he cut them and he taught me how to pound nails. I know it's been a couple years since you did this, but the memories you're making with your dad will be special for a life time. I'm 54 now, but I still remember that time with my dad like it was yesterday. Thank you for sharing this with us.
If anyone feels they have unanswered issues, always watch the entire video. I saw new things in the beginning of this video but was all made clear by the end. I have said this before....things are so similar in the U.K. as here in the US and other places. Appreciate your Dad or Son, love, spend as much time as you can with them! You two are quite a couple of jokers! The humor and being able to work together is priceless! We love you guys. And now onward to the outhouse and a shed...what's a man without a shed! Thankz
Im shocked how you guys dont have millions of subs yet, your cinematography and videos are amazing plus the both of you are a ton of fun to watch and have a laugh with. Keep up the great work over across the pond!
I can't believe it but I've just spent the whole of Saturday evening watching you and your dad turn your idea of a one-man cabin into reality!! Altogether it was a lovely constructive way to spend time with your dad, who I think is a lovely man. I remembered, as a child, having to help my father extend our tiny kitchen and we had to recycle the bent nails, corrugated iron panels and wooden beams, just like how your dad did! I have always enjoyed bushcraft and survival programmes but your videos have taken it to a different direction. And that stove is a work of art! But best of all is the antique coffee grinder. What a lovely present from your mum 🤗 Thank you so much for posting your hard work.
Hard to describe what I'm trying to say so bear with me. I was born in Australia and have lived here all my life. Our winters are about 10 degrees (Celcius) and our summers are about 46 degrees (again, Celcius). I apparently saw snow once as a baby (and don't remember it) and we have no forests here (just dry, scraggly bush). I read a LOT and the stories were usually set in snowy, quiet, isolated forests. There was a sort of sense of, it was an old world. You lived a simple life, close to the ground. Hard but on your own terms. I guess you could say there was something.....mystical, the feeling I'd get reading these books. You might not think the English forest is particularly magical and you might think a pallet wood cabin is nothing to write home about. But I don't know. Watching this series gives me the same sort of feeling those old novels did. Now excuse me while I melt into the footpath.
Time with dad. Priceless. The last time I saw my father alive was in the woods. He had advanced dementia, but when we went into the mountains of Colorado for a day he was transformed. Lucidity returned and we could converse about old times. Sadly, or mercifully, he died of a heart attack a week after our last outing. Those are memories that bring a lot of comfort. BTW. Your dad is a pisser:). You're lucky to have him. Peace.
Mike your dad is the best lol. My dad passed in 2001 so it's nice to be reminded of his humor and the fun we had doing projects as father and son. Thank you brother. Your dad is definitely making me smile.
I tell you what Mike, youre old man is a legend. Extreme woodland shaving. He's just simply awesome. never laughed So much at one of your videos. Love u both
Hey, as I was watching this particular clip I could not help and think that these little moments with family/loved ones is what matters. Not everyone has the privilage to have their father close and like I said; these little moments are priceless! Thank you guys and always enjoy..
Great episode it might be useful to build a rain water collector if your planning on using the sink more or you will be lugging around lots of water all the time
Mike, I am 65 and handicapped. My days of walking in the woods are long past me now. I love watching your videos. It gives me a chance to escape into the trees for awhile if only in my mind. Keep them coming. Tony Yardley, Alabama, USA.
I have to say, I snickered and rolled my eyes when I first started watching your first episode about a pallet log cabin. I have to admit, I really enjoyed watching you build and the time spent with your father. I also have to say the little cabin is awesome. Looking forward to more. Thanks, keep them coming. I don't have access to land but I think my grandson and I will try and build one in are back yard.
Thanks for the great video series. Back in the ‘70s my dad and I built a “fort” out of recycled wood. It was great spending time with him and these videos brought back some great memories. Dad pasted away 6 years ago. When my son was around 10 we built his own Fort in the woods. Again thank y’all. Grady from Texas.
Here is a 'poser' for your Dad. When we both were growing up there was a Polish song in English about a missing sausage. I have changed the lyrics. "Who carved my Kuksa, who carved my Kuksa? Who carved my Kuksa: who made it look like that? Metal cups just burn my lips; the Kuksa's kind to finger tips. For coffee cup it does quite nice; for soups and stews--worth any price. Should you have a taste for 'treen' the Kuksa suits just like a dream...(well, you get the tune by now.)
There is always going to be negative people who have to judge rather than enjoy the video. You guys are doing wonderful and i hope you're enjoying your time together.
Dang bro. I am really jealous watching you hang out and work along side your dad. You are a very fortunate person to be able to share your life and experiences with your dad. I used to fish and work and just have a great time with my dad when I was young. Unfortunately I didn't really know or understand what I had at that young age. My dad passed from stomach cancer about six months before my daughter was born. I was 26 years old and didn't really grasp the concept of what life was gonna be like withput my pops. Thanks for the info and video and God Bless ya bro.
The handmade coffee mugs are lovely. They are so large it seems that you might be able use them as a bowl for soup as well. Love you guys, I live in America. But, my mom and dad’s family were all from England. I loved your comment in a previous video about great English food. My momma made the best Yorkshire pudding! 😊 I love Yorkshire pudding. Y’all are such a beautiful inspiration for fathers and sons. I can’t wait to watch all your videos. Blessings to you both from across the pond!
Started watching this channel with the beginning of this series. Absolutely love it! Just now realized I hadn't subscribed. Just did. Thank you for great videos. Will check out your dad's channel for sure. Love the dynamic between you and your dad. Keep up the great work.
I think you and your dad did an amazing job on your 1 man cabin, looks like you both had a blast building it. Thanks for including us all. Keep up the good work!
When I was growing up as a child, there weren't cell phones or computers. There were barely any electric typewriters. We spent most of our days outside too. I built myself a tree house with my Dad's help. It was fantastic. Great video guys. Take care.
Your Dad is a character! Reminds me a lot of my old man, good sense of humor. Glad to see you guys spend time together. My Pops and I do a lot of projects together and fishing down in Florida. You've inspired me, think I will start filming with him next summer!
LOL he's brought everything AND the kitchen sink! Enjoy these moments with your dad, my man. I'd give anything to be able to go out and spend a day or so in the woods with mine again. He'd be all over a project like this too. Love what you're doing to the place guys. Greetings from Kentucky!
You're very lucky to be able to spend the time with your dad. Cherish every day with him. I lost mine 35 years ago and think of him every day. Love your site, I'm a new sub.
No questions! Just a thank you for sharing. An inspiration and “an excuse” to spent time with my three boys. And to let them see what can be done with materials that would otherwise be trash. What you have is a masterpiece of the mind body and soul. Thank you from across the pond in the US.
I have seen many car ports here in the US where the tin roofing goes the same way and handles wind rain and lots of snow on them. As long as it's properly supported it'll be fine. Thank you for all the videos I was originally looking for ideas on building shelters and or survival forts that I could teach my son to make in the woods when I came across your Channel. And now I hope to one day be able to own enough property or I can do a little project like this with him when he's older. Thank you for the great ideas, and I can't wait for the next video.
rubberdc they comment on each other videos, so I guess they are buddy's. Have to say, Joe Robinet, TA outdoors/TA Fishing and My self reliance are by far my favourite channels 😊
I love all the videos I've seen thus far! You both make what you do look so easy. I do voluntary conservation work at a local wood every 2nd Sunday, and I love it! And then I saw one of you're videos two ish weeks ago and its really made me want to do some overnight bushcraft stuff, and I'm 48 this year! So a big thank you, and I love you guys! I wish I had the relationship you and you're awesome Dad have - it makes me happy you have a good relationship together. :)
Thank you guys for your time and for sharing .... Awesome show guys !!! PS - Im doing an cabin too using scrap saw mill wood .. and spraying it down with old oil/diesel mix to help preserve . Love it guys / Live Action from North Carolina USA
Katherine McChesney lol hahaha Don’t spray the inside... and don’t go too crazy spraying the outside .. this helps with the bugs and it looks like a stained deck . Live Action
Absolutely brilliant video guys. Brought back memories of my late father building his allotment shed in the back yard of our terraced house in eight elements; then getting the coalman to deliver it to his plot with him. I was only seven or eight then but from what I can remember it went up perfectly. He had an old meths stove in there. It was fantastic, as was your video! Thank you.
It's lovely to see a Father and Son relationship building Physicaly, mentaly and spiritualy, capturing the past and future together. Brilliant!!!!!! Great Video's, Love it!
Hmm, all them candles and cones, I thought it was cabin on broke back mountain :D What's next millions of pillows on the bed? :P Nice one, maybe you can make a composting dunny next to the sink (with curtain for the shy types) as a future project. Pallet wood box + bucket topped of with and old toilet seat & lid so you don't get splinters!
I lost my father when he was age 59, approximately 20.5 years ago. I am now semi-retired at age 57, and would have loved to have had the time to do things like this with him. You both obviously appreciate your time together, and I am very happy for you.
I realize I'm 2 years late but I also love how these videos make me feel like I'm there with you guys, outdoors. I don't get outside much, because of health reasons (my legs don't work very well anymore) as well as living in a large-ish city and not owning a car, so it's really nice of you both to sort of invite us into your sort of club house :)
I watched alot of your video but this one is the best in my opinion due to spending time with your dad drinking coffee, love drinking coffee which I've learned in the Navy during my 20yrs, I wish I had time with my dad which he loves drinking coffee also I was pretty much younger then. Very awsome blog keep doing youre blog spend time as much as you can with your dad (I wish I did) this is a good memories you can't bring the pass back this is a very good example for young generation due to new technology (ex tablet, smartphone etc). It is very true what your dad said about the aroma of the beans after grinding you can really smell around you that's really hit me, I feel like I want to make one now.
Those are really nice additions to the pallet cabin. It's really pimped out now. What sort of provision will you make for Jaxx to stay with you? I miss seeing him.
Absolutely love this video series you have put together. Your Dad and all of his fantastic humor and jokes are priceless!! Well done guys, keep'em coming!
TA Outdoors What is your personal definition of "The Bush"? I wanna see what you along with other Outdoorsmen have to say. 😃 i feel like it would be cool to see.
The Bush? Anything away from town, the further the better. I've ridden on bikes to the "bush" as a kid living in a small town, and both travelled hours, miles from anyone living. Both are the bush. I've seen your question a few times (at least two or three times), it depends on perspective and has no fixed address. Away from other people where it feels you're in a private place in the country and not going to run into other people. Even on the family farm, which was only a few thousand acres, felt at times as if I were in-the-bush... that's in the cattle paddocks, not those under cultivation, though sheep paddocks alway felt a little too treeless to be called bush. Maybe untouched natural landscape might be a better description. Hope that helps out with your survey. Any major breakthroughs you felt you've made so far? Are you a city or country kid? Does it have to mean something in particular in your mind? I'm down in Oz, by your picture I'm guessing Canadian. Big country here and there, and a lot of unpopulated areas that go on hundreds to thousands of miles. Kindest regards.
Hi there Cathy from Ontario Canada...Ive been watching since day one of your project...what I love the most, is the closeness of you and yr Dad. You guys really do have it all and ya's have captivated a and inspired many in sure...& personality ++++ both of you!!! Cheers!
Love your father and son vids. It makes me wish my father was alive and I could spend time with him. Cherish these times ! Thumbs up. ENJOY... THE SIMPLE LIFE
another great out of the ball park video. You and your dad need your own show on TV. I can remember strighting old nails for my dad when he was building things around the house so watching you guys do that brings back really good memories. Keep this series going forever please. I'm sure there must be at least 101 projects for skid wood. Oh and I love the idea of water catchment system and a clay oven if you have any clay around and if not I bet dad knows where their is some and just th I k of the foods you could cook in the woods. don't you think everything tastes better outdoors. Can hardly wait till your next video.
Love the series. I am inspired to keep my dream of building my own house one day and live in the outdoor. Also love your Britishness. Spent 13 Years in London and you two remind me of what I love best about the British people. Keep the series alive. Loving it! What could be good but challenging on a budget: 1) Solar or wind power. 2) rain water system to have fresh water on site.

Thanks for the great video series. Back in the ‘70s my dad and I built a “fort” out of recycled wood. It was great spending time with him and these videos brought back some great memories. Should you have a taste for 'treen' the Kuksa suits just like a dream...(well, you get the tune by now.)
There is always going to be negative people who have to judge rather than enjoy the video. You guys are doing wonderful and i hope you're enjoying your time together.
Inspirational i wanna go out and built as well now
The cabin gets better every week. And I love the coffee service! Thanks guys.
Your father is so cool, and you too of course
You're Dad is a character, really enjoyed his humor. What a fine ground with that beautiful coffee grinder.
Hi Guys,
I would love to see Graeme make a Fishing Rod out of Wood and bits and pieces. That would be Awesome.
Steve in Fife.
Guys I love the whole basis that this is a Father Son project..that gets a thumbs up any day from me!!! What memories!!
Your Old Man is a cool dude.......great job guys.
Keep doing what your doing and stay as close to your parents as you possibly can. Your dad seems like a really cool guy and both of you seem like you really enjoy hanging out with each other.
Thanks for the info and video and God Bless ya bro.
You guys need your own TV show on Dave or something, you two are an absolute joy to watch. Are you going to the maker fair in Birmingham NEC in may ?
We don't need TV when we got RUclips! Unfortunately I haven't heard of that fair...
HA! I remember that Badger skull! Nice jar lights as well. Having fun watching you and your Dad build your cabin.
You guys could make a gutter system that feeds into a barrel that then feeds into the sink so you can have running water
I love the relationship and the banter you have with your father. This is fun!
MoldingPro thank you
Amazing what u and your dad have done love the videos down here in New Zealand
Thanks!

I have absolutely enjoyed this series. So great to see a father and son out enjoying time together. Great job.
You can put up a water barrel to collect rain water.
You have a great relationship with your dad. I enjoy watching your videos. Can't wait until the next one.
Awesome job guys! Love the cabin! Keep up the good work! Great channel and videos! Thanks.
I think you and your dad did an amazing job on your 1 man cabin, looks like you both had a blast building it. Thanks for including us all. Keep up the good work!
Your dads a legend yous two together are funny asf
When I was growing up as a child, there weren't cell phones or computers. There were barely any electric typewriters. We spent most of our days outside too. I built myself a tree house with my Dad's help. It was fantastic. Great video guys. Take care.
Nice video!

To be honest you should build another cabin for either yourself or your father so you guys can have a little camp. :)
LOL he's brought everything AND the kitchen sink! Enjoy these moments with your dad, my man. I'd give anything to be able to go out and spend a day or so in the woods with mine again. He'd be all over a project like this too. Love what you're doing to the place guys. Greetings from Kentucky!
Make lil green house to grow veggies and "stuff "for your camp
how blessed you was, having a wonderfull father like him!
How many people can say I built a den with my Dad haha What wonderful fun
Thanks for sharing, glad you got to spend the time together.
In my top ten list. Loved the video. Granny fan
Awesome!
I Love that this is a Father Son project just to spend time together..miss my dad..
Hello from Ireland! Very cool channel 😊👍🍀
You're very lucky to be able to spend the time with your dad. Cherish every day with him. I lost mine 35 years ago and think of him every day. Love your site, I'm a new sub.
Oh god, I need a beer.
BEAH! It's food.
No questions! Just a thank you for sharing. An inspiration and “an excuse” to spent time with my three boys. And to let them see what can be done with materials that would otherwise be trash. What you have is a masterpiece of the mind body and soul. Thank you from across the pond in the US.
Who needs a measuring tape when you have a measuring stick!! :D XD
I love the feeling of a couple of mates making a den in the woods- such fun!
if the structure is strong enough you could rig up a temporary hammock on the table side of the cabin for guests
Have either of you watched another cabin build by a man called Shawn , he lives in Canada and his profile is called Self reliance. take a look .
rubberdc they comment on each other videos, so I guess they are buddy's. Have to say, Joe Robinet, TA outdoors/TA Fishing and My self reliance are by far my favourite channels 😊
I look forward to Friday ..for both channels..Shawn is up next
I love all the videos I've seen thus far! You both make what you do look so easy. I do voluntary conservation work at a local wood every 2nd Sunday, and I love it! And then I saw one of you're videos two ish weeks ago and its really made me want to do some overnight bushcraft stuff, and I'm 48 this year! So a big thank you, and I love you guys! Thank you guys for your time and for sharing .... Awesome show guys !!!
PS - Im doing an cabin too using scrap saw mill wood .. and spraying it down with old oil/diesel mix to help preserve .
Love it guys / Live Action from North Carolina USA
I bet it stinks from oil.
Katherine McChesney lol hahaha Don’t spray the inside... and don’t go too crazy spraying the outside .. this helps with the bugs and it looks like a stained deck . Live Action
It would still stink. In fact it would be a stench.
Absolutely brilliant video guys. I was only seven or eight then but from what I can remember it went up perfectly. He had an old meths stove in there. It was fantastic, as was your video! Thank you.
How bout adding a second cabin to the back so dad can do overnighters with you or twin cabins side by side.

YOU WATCHED IT....
I love your cabin series, and I really love to see you and your father have such a good time together.
One can alway sleep on the floor if you both want to sleep over. How fun.
I lost my father when he was age 59, approximately 20.5 years ago. I am now semi-retired at age 57, and would have loved to have had the time to do things like this with him. You both obviously appreciate your time together, and I am very happy for you.
have you guys thought about building a smoke house and doing some smoked fish on site?
Really delightful watch! Thanks so much for sharing your time together! Cheers!
This will entertain me for a while
dan osullivan entertain sorry it was bugging me
Jack MacDonald I didn't even see I spelt it wrong

Every they they make is crude but it works.
Jaxx is coming soon !
Pimped? You must be from Chicago.
The party didn’t start until Dad arrived! I love him!
Gutter with water butt.
i say its perfect " your dads really chipper your lucky to have such a awsome dad !!! great stuff
