What an astonishing game! It just goes to show why Flames is such a great game - things can change so quickly and unexpectely

It was a great game. Mistakes on both sides for sure but there was nothing inevitable about either side winning once the relative strengths and weaknesses began to impact the game.

End comments - Great game and thanks for posting. Thinking the Panthers were King Tigers is exactly the kind of thing that could happen in RL and probably decided the game. (Six shots at long range and cover is hitting on 5s - should get 2 hits. Would one or two get through the Panther armour? Also that turn they arrived with 4 shots hitting on 4s against rear armour and not hits also really hurt.) There were a few other weird things. The American infantry spent a lot of time pinned, and yet it looked like their HQ just sat in the grey house and didn't come over to reroll that unpin. The German AA sat on the hill wasting ammo shooting at concealed and GTG infantry when it could have easily cleared off the mortar halftracks which were decisive in driving off the desperate German infantry assault. No offensive intended in these observations. I make lots of mistakes in the heat of battle and my comments are hindsight.

Well made points and observations. Brian didn't make good use of his HQ which should be deployed or moved to the hot spot. It was a fun game to watch and everyone was a bit shocked at the final result!

What a great end, keep on going. something similar in my game with Mark's King Tiger making a drive to a infantry congested obj.

Aye, never give up! That's the lesson here. It was fun for both players because it was a crazy result.

I really enjoyed this game and couldn’t believe my luck in placing my Sherman’s on the table from the start and slightly visible (should of used them also in reserve instead of the infantry) but then managed to take out the Panthers on the hill.
If only I had remembered the 2nd unit in the field were Panthers also and I could of caused damage in the front instead of thinking they where King Tigers and my manoeuvre to get to the side of them leaving myself exposed and then dead. Sure Peter must of used some sort of Jedi mind trick on me there.
Right down to the very last measurement and just outside the range of the objective to hold on for a win.
    Great game though.

I thought you had it in the bag from turn one. But it goes to show how defending an objective with reluctant infantry can be very difficult.

Yip I just couldn’t get them to attack. All those bazookas in my list and they just refused assault or to hit anything. Arrrrggggg!!

I think you did the right thing having them in Ambush Brian. They give that AT and mobile unit to respond. You would have given Peter all the initiative having them in reserve.

Commenting after T1. Ouch, the T1 loss of three Panthers really hurts. Statistically their scoot move was a very bad idea. American reinforcements have only a 1 in 6 chance of arriving on T1 on that flank. (That is a 1 in 3 chance of getting reinforcements on T1 and a 50:50 chance of coming in on that side.) Rather than defend against a 1:6 chance, it would have been better to just scoot off the hill and out of the LOS of the Shermans on the board. You could still angle your front armour towards the close flank if you want. Also if I have a luck card I would have used it on that Jumbo bail roll. Otherwise that Jumbo will be eating shots all game with successful mistaken target rolls. I can't tell for sure from the footage, but rather than put the Panthers on the hill, I would have blitzed forward, then moved to try and shoot down the road towards the Shermans with 4 clear shots. (Maybe it was too long a move tho.) I think the best way to play this scenario is for the attacker to weight all their strength onto one Allied flank so half the time new Allied reinforcements don't have an immediate impact.

Peter did blunder with that Shoot and Scoot. Brian also blundered when he thought the remaining Panthers were King Tigers and drove away from them! Some crazy moments in what is a chaotic mission.

Wow I think the biggest thing here is how persistent Peter is lol

My thoughts too actually. Most of us would have cursed our luck and given up. A lesson in persistence.

@PanzerSchule I've played plenty people that would have thrown in the towel after the first 2 turns. And Peters dice didn't even improve after that

@@valleygamingfowmesbgswl I didn't think it would have been any use as a report. But Peter found the crack in Brian's defence after all.

@PanzerSchule the battle weary AR are great but if they need to counterattack that's their problem

    • @PanzerSchule
      @PanzerSchule  4 месяца назад +1

Definitely, they don't seems to have the staying power of other Reluctant troops I've seen. That's purely a dice thing but it's still a real thing!@@valleygamingfowmesbgswl
