- Welcome back to the channel folks and to another Battle Report. This is the second of our Bulge games recorded at Knightly Gaming in January. We are playing Elastic Defence from the US Bulge book. Mark is attacking again with his SS Panthers and Tom is defending with Battle Weary Infantry and Shermans.

The problem with really powerful high value units is that you don't have very many of them. Even a King Tiger can only kill two enemy tanks a turn, one if it moves (as it must if you have to attack) and even then you only have about a 1 in 3 chance of actually doing it. With so few units its hard to protect your vulnerable flanks and against veteran shermans with AT 13 or 14 they are going to get you eventually. The Germans were doing really well here until that error with the reserves, but even then all the tanks had advanced beyond their supports, as often happens when you have so few units, and a pincer attack with the Chaffees on the other flank would have been decisive. I agree if the attackers had more time it would have been closer at least.
There was more play left in the game if the KTs had protected their flanks but it was still a long shot!
The mission has half the defenders troops in the forward area. It looks like there was only one platoon of infantry there? Seems a bit odd. Have I missed something?
The deployment text states up to half. We read that as minimum of one, and no more than half. We did have to discuss it a bit before the games. What do you think?

He's very happy with how they turned out.
Great game and the mission was much more fun with the exposed unit having to fend off the attack. I was lucky that my crucial flanking shots hit and killed in that one turn. Think the scenario could be improved if the attackers had 8 turns to capture the objective.
Thar mission isn't as bad as Roadblock. It's better balanced. Challenges for both players.
Nice report. Just goes to show German heavy tanks look good but in practice having over 1 unit of them makes winning games almost impossible, due to the lack of numbers you can never secure flanks and then you are vulnerable to cheap shots from cheap units.
Toms force was much better balanced and far more flexible and was never really bothered by the heavies.
It is hard to use KTs as everything moves so quickly now with reserves coming in from all sides. And where you have aggressive armour being shot at by stablisers its even worse!
And I shouldn't forget to invite you to the Scottish Nats in May. It would be great to see you there. @rexking273
hi Frank I would have liked nothing better than to have been able to go to your Nationals, unfortunately Life gets in the way and that weekend I have work commitments I cant get out of.
Both myself and my wife were intending on coming up and playing as neither of us have really ever been to Scotland and had said we would definitely go but work has a way of stopping most of the things we want to do. If it had been the week before or after we would definitely have been there even though I believe it would have been around an 8 hour drive. Perhaps next year.
Maybe see some of your boys at the nationals in England again maybe get to play Pete or Tom as missed playing them last year.
