As a hairstylist for 40+ yrs, I almost fell out of my chair over the client that was telling you her whole life story. People who let you touch them will open up & tell you things you never wanted to know. It's really quite fascinating. The other by-product of this phenomenon is the marriage proposals. Talk about awkward LOL

I'm pretty sure making smalltalk about your life with a hairdresser - especially if you're a returning customer expecting to build a relationship with the person you're trusting to cut your hair - is a lot more normal than doing so to a cashier at a makeup store.
I have it the opposite way, I tell the hairdresser how I want my hair cut, hoping that will be it, and then they're the ones that start trying to small talk me. I just want you to cut my hair, hand me the mirror at the end so I can check the back and be done!!! lol
Why does this remind me of the dentists talking while they work on your teeth and suddenly address you in a convo and you're like "OH, you're talking to me-"
The silence gets awkward so I tend to talk about sewing projects and quilting. Then ask about their hobbies and favorite color. At least it's not dumping trauma.
This makes me want to go to Sephora and see if NARS actually has wild names for all their products lmao
"Orgasm" and "Super Orgasm" are bad enough. I stopped even having interest in the brand after that. Ugh.
Also I think they have one called deep throat…. Yeah that’s a bit much for makeup and I’m very open sexually and not embarrassed but I mean come on.
They do for the most part but I think it’s quite funny. I have that blush and I really like it.

Those ‘names’ have been around for over a couple of decades at least. Funny we didn’t bat an eye back then.

Oh my god, as a guy who used to work for NARS, I’m DEAD! 🤣 He nailed it on the head, from everyone making a deal out of being a guy wearing makeup, to the wild shade names, to the most unhinged customers - can confirm I have also experienced literally all of these scenarios. NO LIES DETECTED!!

I've only been into makeup for about 4 years now, but it still astonishes me how many people don't know the difference between natural makeup and dramatic/glam makeup! If I was a Sephora employee, I'd just put up an infographic at that point to save myself the trouble of having to explain it 8 times a day!

@@s0Shi Basically! People will really sit there and call the most dramatic smokey eye "natural" as long as it uses only neutral colors. But a simple monochrome look with mascara and no eyeliner is "too much" just because that one color just so happens to be blue!

Hilarious! The struggle with the dirty product names was too real- I’m looking at you NARS. And the Sephora during Covid was spot-on! I went there during that whole mess and they were standing outside like a bouncer and had a velvet rope thing they’d open for one or two people to go in when other customers left. Thanks for a great video!

Oh man, it was great during Covid!😆 I'd wait until someone went out the back or side doors and went in... 20 minutes later they notice I dont have a mask on and I have half a dozen things which i would hsve bought but they wouldn't sell me without a mask. And I figured it wasn't going to matter because I was likely going to be the one preforming CPR while we waited on EMTs to get there as their heads exploded😆😆 And even if they shook me the ppl they'd meet at the hospital likely live at my house or are in my circle of ppl & there's a good chance if they had any sort of extended stay they'd end up with me before being released to go home. I was kinda hoping that's how it would work out if too many of them popped too many blood vessels at the same time🤣😂

Like last week, I had about 6 potential clients wanting video sessions, and on another part of the easy questionnaire saying they only want in-person. Then I actually bought a lead for someone who said throughout they wanted video, called them, and they immediately asked if I worked in their town, as they wanted in-person! This was fun. I especially loved the part where he couldn't tell the shade names for the nars products. Lemme tell you, they renamed all the "orgasm" shades from nars into just "O" where i live. So 1 day i wanted to buy the orgasm loose highlighter and everyone kept saying there is no such product until i showed them a picture of the product. They had it in stock with a completely different shade name "O"

I love how you always greet the customer with a positive attitude and a friendly smile. By the end of the video you’re practically having a nervous breakdown but we know you’re not there cause of it because you we’re perfectly fine before that customer walked in. My favorite videos are the ones with the annoying teenager, probably because I have one myself. I just hope I do a better job raising mine than Tiffany’s mom did with her! 😂

I don't even know how they can not know how offensive they are, or maybe they just don't care. I would be mortified to know that people cringe when I walk into a business because of my previous behavior.

we do have sephora in australia but it doesn't stock as much variety because of competitors like mecca (plus makeup conpanies having their own individual stores rather than being resold in bigger ones)

You are so sweet! I swear all kinds of people put Sephora employees all together. Like we are all terrible. But I swear that’s not the case. We have had a few people like that at our store. And they have got fired. They would always stay on there phone, and when someone needed help color matching she would be like “Roxanne they need a color match”.. & I was new at Sephora at the time so I did it. But now there are only 2 originals left & one is me & the managers lol.

I've had a hell of a lot of bad luck this year, from my apartment burning down, to my car getting totaled , to having to have complete reconstructive surgery on my foot and now waiting to see if it heals or if they will have to amputate it, to my little girl being hospitalized and not knowing if and when she'll be coming home. I say all of this just to let you know no matter how bad things have gotten, you have given me a reason to laugh and smile through it all at, least for a little while. Thank you for your videos, you have no idea how much they help some of us !

She was so pushy and somehow I ended up walking out with that instead of my liner! Standing on the street wondering how the heck that happened! 😂 I'm such a pushover.
