- Sage is 23. She has been homeless in the Tenderloin for 2 1/2 years. Before homelessness, Sage only smoked a little weed. Since she's lived on the streets, Sage has been to rehab three times. She wants to go back to college, and she hopes to get into housing soon.
When I asked Sage about homelessness, she responded it's not that bad. I then asked Sage if she's putting up a front covering the pain of homelessness, or is it really not the bad. She said, "Kind of. I am a young attractive female. People take care of me."
I cannot imagine what this girl has experienced living on the streets. Sage told me that she tries to focus on animals to keep her mind off things. Sage likes butterflies. One of her wishes was for the butterflies to come back.
One might think this young hippie chick is making bad decisions, so she gets what she deserves, but the truth is, we are our brother's keeper. Sage has tried to get out of homelessness a few times, but there is no easy path out. It's up to all of us to change that!
We must prevent homelessness from happening in the first place, but if someone young or old ends up on the streets, we need to get them out of homelessness as quickly as possible.

This isn’t just talk. Each year, our groundbreaking educational content reaches more than a billion people across the globe. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.

Poverty isn't fixed with religion or prayers, but with action such as donating directly to the poor instead of to charities, because most charities are scams. Give them tents, tiny homes, and pay for them to stay in hotels and hostels. See? Very easy to help the poor, as long as you're willing to spend some money and energy getting the help to them. Rob and then ended up on the streets.. Rent is 330 a month where I live. Why can't she make that in 1 month?? She admitted to the drug use. Not my word. Hers..
A lot of homeless also go to rehab because it’s three meals a day , medicine , shower, clean bed etc .... I went to rehab once and it was full of homeless people ! They told me insurance would pay once a year for detox and rehab. This was in Connecticut

e stog Most addicted people aren’t chemically addicted. They abuse the drugs to numb themselves from the situation. Change the situation and there is no need to numb yourself anymore. Those that are chemically dependent should of course go to rehab as well to safely kick whatever they need to kick.

Hope is worthless. These people need free housing and MONEY. If you really gave a damn, then don't just leave a pity comment on a RUclips video. Go outside and DO SOMETHING about it. Email your politicians and demand they build free housing and more low-income housing. Tell them to give cash to the homeless, with no strings attached and no expectation of the money being repaid back. Demand that the government enact Universal Basic Income. These always make me feel so grateful for all the people who helped me. Even when I was homeless and living in my car I had friends who'd keep my stuff safe and let me shower and cook food. I hope I can help others now.

I took student loans out for housing, I am 6 figures in debt now, but I have a job and can pay the basics to support my family. When I look at her all I see if wasted potential. God, please help her to turn away from drugs in the name of Jesus!!! I pray she is set free, she finishes school and that she uses her wisdom to HELP OTHERS! She is amazing.
Yea federal aid can be a lifesaver. I’m actually starting at SFSU in the fall. We’re going to be online for this semester but hopefully she’ll be a student there with me on campus one day or something! I’m lucky to have family to stay with, otherwise I’d be taking out loans myself.

It's heart breaking that this young woman grew up a few miles from where she stands and there there is no one (family...friends) that can give her a break, so that she can get off the streets. She has big dreams. I have a feeling that she will make it. I've met people like her.

I know that you in America do not like the word "socialism". I'm 46 now and I've caught a bit of socialism. I went to university for free (like my parents). We, like many others, received a free apartment. Free medicine and study. Now in Russia capitalism (as well as in America) - and this is horror! You shouldn't think that everything was fine under socialism, it is not. But when I compare socialism and capitalism, I say yes to the first and no to the second!

Mark, can we request you to interview someone? I’m in riverside ca and I’ve seen this man for the last 1.5 years homeless near my apt. I’ve helped him a few times but I’d like to hear his story and get him some resources.
@@bergmannpublishing783 the only one giving off some poor impression here is you. She stated in her comment that she has helped the man out herself a couple times. There are resources that others may be able to offer that she may not. I could easily go and offer temporary help/resources to the homeless I see around me. But what may really benefit them is even just educating them on other resources for the homeless that we may not know about ourselves, considering we aren't in the same position to know about these resources that might help them in the long run. I think her reaching out here to ask about this was great, and shows that she cares to have this man's story shared with a larger audience, and not just shared between the two of them. I for one, am happy to see anyone who cares enough to try and have a single persons story shared or try to find them resources that they may not be able to offer themselves. I think he would be touched to know that this woman thought about him when she commented here.

After seeing him for so long it appears to me he has mental health issues so I don’t feel comfortable approaching him alone or with my baby (my fiancé would def refuse, he’s a mind his own business kind of person). Also, my mom is a social worker and has told me the best thing to do is get someone resources instead of just giving them things or food. Thanks for standing up for me :)

I have been homeless a couple of times in my life - once while I worked but couldn't earn enough money to pay for a place to stay. It's hard - especially in the winter. Listening to this young lady broke my heart. There's more to her story than meets the eye as she appears to be emotionally broken even though she struggles not to show it. She also seems to be comfortable in her situation which means that there is some sense of emotional and mental safety in her current environment.
I pray that one day she will realize that she is loved, so very loved by God and that He is there for her and that He can heal her heart and soul. As I found out (as have many others), is that the first step out of homelessness resides in our desire to want to change - otherwise you go back to what's safe, familiar, and comfortable.
I will be praying that she has a life changing encounter with Yeshuah as I did so many years ago! No regrets!

Okay Sage is a badass! Like, I was blown away by here and I can’t really explain why. I think it’s because I’m 29 and I can relate to her level of thinking but also because she’s almost childlike. She’s honestly extremely inspirational and I would be so grateful to have her as a friend if I were living in San Fran!
Last thing: she is SO spot on about homeless people being OUR people! These are people who are at their lowest that RELY on our help. Give them that help instead of getting Starbucks or like she said, save money in one area and give away the money you saved to someone IN NEED! Don’t be judgmental. I finally got into a SIP hotel shortly after this interview, and am currently waiting on getting into a youth apartment! My two and a half years in the city have been spent going to appointments and turning in paperwork to improve my situation.

All of the other interviews resonate deeply with me but this girl, I think she is happy here. I think she is feels safer and more accomplished on the street than she would be in housed society. She is well spoken, observant and composed. It feels like fear, but a different kind than we are meant to believe. Either way she is lovely and I love her.

I think her family are the origin of the problem. She probably has an emotionally abusive mom, that wounded her, and she has to heal from this. She says she has to be self sufficient as a kid, had learn to accept help.

Disgusting how many apartments lay empty because people cannot afford to live in them
Not only that many residential areas in the heart of Silicon Valley are empty of no residents. I heard that many foreigners buy houses and don't live in them so that prices go up. The majority of foreigners are Chinese, in my neighborhood sunnyvale area there are several empty houses over the years.
I hope the government imposes a 60% tax if it is not occupied.
