- Running my Proboat BlackJack 42" for the first time on White Birch Lake in Windsor, NY. Boat ran good for the most part, other than the collet issue and choppy water! Anyway, if you enjoyed please consider subscribing. Thanks!
For anyone that cares, I just pulled the prop shaft and inspected it from that run. It was absolutely perfect. No unwinding, no fraying, and still a light bit of grease on it. 👌In all honesty, I should have pulled it out on camera bc I'm sure there will be skeptics. 🤣 Next time. 👍
So what’s your opinion? I’m thinking of buying one? Thanks
@aaronsomeone7209 after a lot of tuning, I was able to get the boat to 72mph with a 3 blade prop! I carved out some of the styrofoam from the nose of the hull to move the batteries farther forward, thus creating more stability and minimizing blow overs. I'd say if you're not shy about spending some time tuning and tinkering, this boat is absolutely worth it. 👍👍
Nice run! BTW don't go to all that trouble removing the strut when greasing the shaft. Just remove the shaft as normal. Give it a good tug and then clean out the adhesive from where the bushing sits with a Dremel and wire brush attachment or sand paper and then you will be good to go. People are showing videos of removing strut to grease but yet they still can't grease the prop shaft and the bushing that way.
Thanks for the input sir! I was thinking about not being able to get grease on the full length of the shaft. 👍
lol don't let them know there overpriced junk.
Your supposed to drop the screws out 1st! I have one .you probably did the damaged by not dropping the screws 1st . Really! read the manual or utube. I have a m41 also that all you have to do is loosen the collar and it slides right out. This design on this blackjack could be much better. I find it annoying to grease it. Taking those screws out every time kinda sucks. Outside of that nice boat.
Yep, I learned that very shortly after this video! 🤣 Gained a lot of proficiency in a short time, that's for sure! Haha. Anyway thanks for the comment and for stopping by! 😎👍
I installed my 2" trim tabs today! Made all the difference! You set them fairly flat at the end of the sponsons. This allows the hull to still plane, but eliminate the porpoising. I was able to raise the prop a few mm so that I can get more speed. Still have batteries full forward. With adjusting the tabs, you can easily make the hull plow with too much angle. Some scoffed at me saying trim tabs won't make a difference on a cat - those guys are idiots!
Sounds good man, can't wait to try it!!!
Do you have a link for the trim tabs
You messed up when you put the screwdriver on the collar/collet fins you should of filed down the burrs on the threads so you could screw on the collet.
Mine came rite out...no problem.
I learned my lesson in the first two minutes of your video “no Proboat Blackjack”
😂😂😂 I wouldn't blame you! I've got it running a lot better now, but still struggling to get over 60mph.
What do u expect from China
I'm looking to get my first big boat I can't make up my mind the zelos 36 or the blackjack 42 help lol
Both good choices!! Haven't owned the Zelos personally, but a friend of mine has the Miss Geico and loves it. They're nice boats! For what it's worth I tried to film a top speed run with the Blackjack yesterday and broke the prop shaft. 😭 Gonna be calling Horizon again here shortly...
If I may make a suggestion, I’m not happy with the quality of pro boat, and I’ve ordered a Zonda from Banggood think for the money it’s a better boat.
@@powderriver2424 I was looking at Zondas, and the only thing that steered me away was the time it would take to get one along with the higher price. A friend of mine has one and it seems to be a great boat... I don't believe they're RTR though, correct? Need a radio and a servo? You very well may be correct that it's a better boat in the long run. I don't have enough time under my belt with the Proboat. I'll certainly be jumping ship if it keeps breaking!!
@@powderriver2424 ZONDA IS OKAY. I just sold my carbon fiber 42 inch. Quality is lacking and whoever designed the battery tray area is a idiot, no room at and its a real bitch to strap batteries down. MY neighbor got the miss geico 36 and its leaps n bounds better than the zonda and this black jack 42. Far superior in every way. I would ster clear of the zonda for the price.
Can you put the Traxxas trim pads on the Blackjack?
I suppose you could, as long as you can drill through the hull and mount them. 👍
I’ve seen other videos of this boat which advised taping the canopy to prevent water infiltration into the hull. To me, that is not acceptable for a $500-$600 boat.
perfect boat man...looks so fast.😍
kip it up lol..subs already
Hope you get that figured out so we can do some real boat running not that putzing around you were doing lmao. Tnx for sharing the maiden, still looks like a handful with the batt forward and strut down
Thanks man!! Got the order in for a new collet, and I'm going to run the dual cooling mod here shortly just for good measure. 👍👍
Kinda wish it was a twin motor boat like the zelos cat
So cool. Awesome place. I have never had a boat but your intro was very informative.
Thanks man! It's sad, but unfortunately my friend is listing his house come Spring, which is on this lake. Absolutely beautiful lake and nice place, but they needed something more practical. They were going to try to keep the lake house and buy a new place, but 2 mortgages would be pretty steep!
All you had to do is just drop the shaft and heat it up with either a heat-gun which is what i would use and it take out those two boats and it will slide right out...
Right, that may work under normal circumstances. In this case the manual is flat out incorrect, in that you need to drop the strut and pull it out with the prop shaft. There is an oversized bushing which will not pull out the back. Horizon has been notified and is actually in the process of correcting the manuals, I've been told. 👍
Very cool! I haven't really tried boats yet!
They are a lot of fun for sure... Definitely different, but fun! Thanks for watching! 😁
House ....lake Behind house ....RC Boats ..doesn’t get any better besides some beer in that mix
Absolutely man, 💯%!!! 😎
First comment haha watching now mate, looking to buy this boat this morning! Only question is black or white!
Absolutely my man, that's definitely the dilemma!! 🤣 For me it was the black and gold. 😎
Hi I just subscribed
Welcome good sir! Thank you, I subbed to you as well! 👍👍
Hi Tom, my parents had a cottage on White birch lake back on the 70’s.
Bob Edwards
Oh no kidding!! Small freakin world!! Absolutely beautiful lake, I love it. 👍👍
Really slow boat out of the box i except more from this class of cat
I agree. Hoping to run it with a new prop after work today. 👍👍
Nice video man! Thanks for sharing the good and the bad! Stay true
Absolutely man, thank you!!
On that Spartan where did you get the prop know what size
I believe I got that one at OSE (offshore electronics). It was an Octura X450. 👍👍
Wow beautiful boat my friend 😲👍
Thank you sir! Might take a little bit to get her dialed in but I'll get there!! 🤙🤙
How u put the other 2 quad tabs on the spartin did it help it?
Hi Brad! Indeed it did help... Virtually eliminated the chine walk and made it more stable at speed. 👍 There are actually 4 additional cylindrical housings in the boat at the rear, for drilling into. It appears as though Traxxas anticipated people installing an extra set of tabs. You do your best to line up with those from the rear of the boat, drill 4 new holes (2 per trim tab), and screw em in! I would definitely recommend it if you can. 😁👍
Man that thing is huge compared to the Spartan. 😁
You ain't kiddin!! 😂
I had same problems! Wrote to Horizon and no response! They couldn't give two shits about their customers! I ended up ordering a new collet. My shaft came out with the brass bushing. Not sure that part really should go in and out with the shaft.
Dude, give them a call!! 1-888-959-2307. They were definitely busy right after the holiday weekend, but they called me back and my new collet will be here tomorrow. 👍👍
Yeah my brass bushing pushed out a little bit as well at first... Very snug fit when brand new! Sorry to hear about your problems man!! At least take solace in knowing you're not alone! 😥
@@WeissRC if the bushing isn't supposed to come out, then I don't see how you can leave the required 1-2mm gap to account for shaft compression when it spins up.
@@wincrasher2007 as far as I'm aware, my shaft itself just sticks out the required ~3mm... The bushing does not.
@@WeissRC interesting. the shaft is stepped on that end, so it isn't coming out without the bushing too. I lubed up the whole thing and it all comes out easier now. I may need to adjust the prop dog to give alittle more gap with the bushing.
I had the same problem with my blackjack42 brand new out of the box. My motor coupler was destroyed not only stripped but the cuts in it where at a angle. I did call Horizon and they sent me a new one in 2 days.
Dang man, glad I'm not the only one! Sorry to hear about your luck... At least Horizon seems attentive to their customers.
@@WeissRC Just checked my flexshaft after watching you second video my flex is seperated also it barely turns prop under a load. Looks like a phone to horizon tomorrow morning. Did you ever get your flexshaft out of your boat without taking strut off?
@@brianpigman8547 interesting it's happening to yours too! No, I never did get it to come out without taking the strut off as well... Horizon said they're revising the manual.
Looks like fun.nice edit on the near flip
Thank you sir! Much appreciated! 😁
That was a sick wheelie dude!!!
Hahahaha thanks! Unintentional and about gave me a heart attack when it happened! 🤣🤣🤣
Nice video that flexshaft set up is a little funky . Beautiful lake also...
Thank you!! And yes, totally agree on the flex shaft setup. 😝
WeissRC&Hobbies mine actually did slide right out but only after my first hard run...
@@rcadventures4342 good to know! I hadn't run mine at all, so who knows how long it was sitting on a shelf before I bought it. 😝 From what I've read, they don't really put much on them from the factory.
WeissRC&Hobbies definitely have to grease it before the first run I use the Dynamite grease with the applicator best I’ve found...
@@rcadventures4342 great minds think alike! Same here my man!! 😎🤙
Top speed ??
Didn't measure it yet, but hopefully tomorrow!! 👍👍 Supposed to do 55+, but they admit that's in ideal conditions.
How did you flex shaft look after this run?
Gonna pull it soon so I'll let you know!! 👍👍
FYI, flex shaft looked perfect. No fraying and still a light coating of grease on it. 👌
@@WeissRC heck yeah, mine was looking similar after my last run. Good stuff. 💪👊
@@bfuproductions good deal man!! 😁👍
perfetc
Thank you! 🤙🤙
Seems like everybody is having that bounce issue.
Yeah I've noticed that as well. The water was a bit choppy, and I really haven't messed with battery placement or the prop strut at all.... Hoping a lot of it can be tuned out (in better water conditions of course)! 👍
@@WeissRC there’s a guy on here that has the fastest rc boats around and he can’t seem to get it worked out. He’s even got the stock prop worked over by chris Hoffman and still no luck
@@jaycevessier7554 I assume you're talking about Mr mad... I've seen his videos, and the one where he hit 64mph then did a backflip. 🤣 I've got another prop coming to play with as well. 👍 I won't be heartbroken if it can't be tuned out completely, but if it can be significantly reduced that would be nice! 🤙
@@WeissRC yep that’s him. Yeah I have a traxxas m41 that after a year I finally found the sweet spot to stop porpoising. Can you adjust prop height too? That’s where I found the sweet spot on the m41 is prop height
@@jaycevessier7554 I haven't looked that closely... Thus far I only know that you can adjust the prop angle, which of course adjusts the height somewhat inherently.
