2023 here. Back to the ALiner. Wow, the changes you’ve been through. Loved the rock formations! Too many heart problems to hike that now, but thanks for the look see. GORGEOUS!!
I've been on the road from Tucson to Deming ... many many times in my life. Didn't think I'd really miss it, but now that I'm away, I do. I took a lot of things for granted in life. I am changing that.
I drive often on rough gravel roads, and it helps to slow down to 15 or 20 mph, especially if you are concerned about dust and vibration. Great video, wonderful scenery.
Wow, what did Mother Nature do to create such fascinating rock forms. Going to put this place on bucket list. Like the way you take your time to in enjoy nature and letting it soak. Very soothing to watch.
the Park Srvc has some great explanation signs for the rock formations in the park entrance bldgs. This hike he shows is wonderful! Go when u can. And the campground skunks are very.... friendly. Vodka infused marshmallows keep them at bay.
Enjoyed it SP. The beer "commercial" brought back memories. My love of nature and particularly national parks actually began oddly enough with a beer commercial way-back-when. As a pup in the late 50s I remember a commercial by the Hamm's Brewery Co. The commercial had these pom-pom drums that went with a sort of Native American melody. A female voice would sing "From the land of sky blue wah-ha-ters." We would then see this lush scenery of snow capped mountains and lakes, and spruce forests with bears and beavers. The commercial would end with males voices repeating "Hamm's the beer refreshing, Hamm's the beer refreshing." Although TV was black and white in those days, the scenery was quite verdant and still magic to my young eyes. Years later after taking geography classes I would remember and look back at those Hamm beer commercial scenes, and figured the scenes were from the American northwest (Oregon and Washington) or Alberta, Canada after I saw the Marilyn Monroe movie "River of No Return." I also later found out that Hamm's was actually a St. Paul, Minnesota company; Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes I think. Anyway the desire to see such scenery after those early commercials took root in my soul and has never ceased. By the way, your last video was "Best Lil Fridge...in Van." I hope using those spring or brook waters to cool your brew wasn't an early indictment on that fridge that got raving reviews. Just two days ago I sent some YTers looking for an efficient fridge to your video review. Here we are one video later and now it can't handle your suds? Then again you did mention the overcast skies. But, dude, if there is ANY current/amps left you've GOT to use it all to keep those beers chilled. That's an emergency! Ah, the rock formations. Some of the smaller ones reminded me so much of the "goblins" in Arches NP, and some of the tall slender vertical ones looked like lost monochrome hoodoos, stripped of their fine rainbow colors and run out of Bryce Canyon NP. They have such an unearthly, yet hauntingly beautiful look to them. Then there's the Balanced Rock. Seems like every park these days has one on the trail somewhere. I've seen signs to this place, Chiricahua but never seriously considered going in, until now. Thanx.
Yes, I looked a few up and seemed to remember more actual vs. animated scenery, maybe not. I was bit surprised that the commercials extended into the 80s.
You showed us some amazing scenery in this video Mr. Potatohead. Thanks very much. Your beer commercial was 10 times better than anything they can produce.
LOL....Donovan the little street stray I rescued was watching you walk through the trees and decided he needed to alert me to your presence! He watches lots of youtube videos.
You do an excellent job as a wordsmith. I think your videos have a kind of homespun quality not found in other travel adventurers' work. Keep it up and hopefully our paths will cross somewhere that we can share a stream cooled beer.
Love your videos, Slim! I agree, there is a peace that is unobtainable outside a forest. I lived in Arizona for 20 years and spent a lot of time hiking the state and never heard of this place. It looks amazing! Putting it on my list!
LOL!! I'm on a flight to Oregon and couldn't help but laugh out loud to your commercial before i remembered where I was. I had a couple people around me ask what I was watching, so hopefully some new viewers for ya from 30k feet in the air :) Great video and look forward to your next one :)
I’ll add my dittos to all the other great comments already made! I always look for your videos and I agree with the others on your videos getting better!
Yes, Slim, you are like fine wine.........getting better and better. Not that many YT videos that I look forward to but yours are always on my watch list. Thanks for all of your work and time to bring us enjoyment. If our paths ever cross out there I will have beer for you.....guaranteed! LOL
I was unaware of Chiricahua - fascinating! (Some of the formations are somewhat reminiscent of basalt columns near Vik, Iceland.) Have definitely added it to my list of places to see on future trips to the Southwest! Thanks for the video, Slim!
Hi Slim, ran into severe washboarding on a BC road in the mountains in Kanaskis country ... realized, like you, going slow was far worse than picking up the speed and going for it. And, at that speed, deflating the tires would not have been a wise idea. I may give that technique a try though the next time. Years ago, stayed on an island that was the northern limit for the massassauga rattle snake ... where we stayed was called, wait for it, Rattle Snake Harbour. And, yes, oodles of them ... learned to carry long sticks to probe the grass to make sure the snakes weren't surprised by us. Always look forward to your videos. Cheers, Steve
A friend told me about Chiricahua NM, and now you showed me. I’ll be heading there in a couple of weeks. I plan to try for a first-come space in the NM, but now you gave me confidence that the NF is good if the NM is full. Thanks for showing us around!
Slim, enjoyed this video. We visited that area last spring and took the same road over the top to Portal, AZ. Forty miles of bad road (great name for a song)! Also hiked the Echo Canyon trail. It was great to see it again. The rock formations in the Monument are truely amazing. Thanks for the memory. We just bought a Chalet Alpine trailer, and hope to be doing some trips of our own this next year.
Wow, missed this one. Those are my childhood stomps. I grew up in Cochise county. One could spend years exploring there. A few points of interest there. Rucker Canyon, Cochise Stronghold, Portal and Cave Creek to the west, Wilderness of Rocks, Mount Graham nearby in Graham county south of Safford. My uncle had a USFS land lease cabin west or Portal with a creek running through the property, some of my best childhood and early teen memories come from this area.
Wow! What a beautiful area. I know you didn't like the washboard road (I'm not a fan, either) but if you had not driven down it you would have missed the monument.
My favorite video of yours so far. I am an avid hiker and I know how hard it is to stop and capture the special feeling you get rounding a corner or seeing a particular view or pattern. You have done that in this video and I thank you. Will be heading to Arizona from Northern Ontario in the next few weeks and am eager to boondock and get some great hiking in. I spend the spring/summers in Newfoundland and invite you to explore the ultimate boondocking territory with some of the most amazing hiking trails including views of icebergs and whales (in season (june/july).
Great video editing. You are an artist. Love your trips in the desert. That scrub brush you were in, is classic Mojave and diamondback rattlesnake habitat. Stay safe buddy !
This area was beautiful and we hope to go back here and camp (it was full when we were there in February.) We unfortunately, weren't equipped to boondock but, after all your videos of how to do so, and the beautiful peaceful areas you find to camp at, you've inspired us to get equipped so we can experience that level of peace and quiet rejuvenation of nature too!
gday from Australia mate love your videos what I do when I encounter bad dirt roads I just bring my tyre pressures on my 4wd and camping trailer down to around 25 lbs of pressure and it makes all the difference-like I said before love your videos keep it up mate
I guess you can always air down the tires if you have a pump handy to bring them back up. This trick works great in mid and snow for added traction too! Bryan from Vancouver
This is the grandpa each and everyone of the childrens would like to have!😀👍
2023 here. Back to the ALiner. Wow, the changes you’ve been through. Loved the rock formations! Too many heart problems to hike that now, but thanks for the look see. GORGEOUS!!
Its been a long time since I have been to Coronado Forest. So beautiful
I want to move to Arizona. And I love to hike! Watching your fabulous video , just about seals the deal!!!......
It's May, 2024: Your old video has inspired us to add southern AZ to our plans. Thank you, Slim!
Love the commercial
I always enjoy watching your videos! Great camera shots of the Monument rocks and wild life! I had a few good laughs too! Thank you for sharing!
Clever way to raise your top. I live in the area so really enjoyed your video.
This is now on my "go to" list. Chiricahua. What a beautiful place.
Amazing video of beautiful country.....thanks
Love Cochise County! Thanks, Slim.
I've been on the road from Tucson to Deming ... many many times in my life. Didn't think I'd really miss it, but now that I'm away, I do. I took a lot of things for granted in life. I am changing that.
Thanks for yet another wonderful video. I am left with a grin on my face.
What a magnificent country ,thankyou Slim for showing it wonderful filming .
I like to think I know a lot about our National Forests, Monuments, and Parks. But I'd never heard of Chiricahua! What a gorgeous and unusual place!
I don't comment enough, but this was a great video! Love your work. Safe travels. --Mark
I drive often on rough gravel roads, and it helps to slow down to 15 or 20 mph, especially if you are concerned about dust and vibration.

You Sir, are correct. Fires and beer do go together🍻
I've never seen anything like it. Thank you.

Enjoying old videos
Had the pleasure to be there this past winter never would I have gone here if it wasn’t for your beautiful video
There looks to be a LOT of "Stoney" soldiers standing gaurd the early part of the video. Awesome!!
Thanks for the visuals and tests on the washboarding! Great videos! Loved seeing that black coppery lizard too. Beautiful.
"Natural Ice.. So natural and Icy" 😂
Wow! Beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Hi Del, you peaked my curiosity! Here it is: ruclips.net/video/hc7HoWEk6y8/видео.html
Yes, I looked a few up and seemed to remember more actual vs. animated scenery, maybe not. I was bit surprised that the commercials extended into the 80s.
Great video

Stunning scenery.
I did enjoy this video. Cool place! Thank you always for the fun and beautiful scenery! 👍 ❤😊
There are Coatis in the Chiricahuas, if you find them they are in troops of 15 or 20 and you can watch them for hours. Fall is best.
You do an excellent job as a wordsmith. I think your videos have a kind of homespun quality not found in other travel adventurers' work. Keep it up and hopefully our paths will cross somewhere that we can share a stream cooled beer.

Glad you got a chuckle. I hope Anheuser-Busch sees the humor too, maybe send a 6-pack my way? SP
From far away I thought it was a couple of Molsons, but those are prob hard to come by in SW USA.
You have a good eye for videography and voice for documentaries.
Very cool. A nice antidote to today's rainy and chilly weather here in Calgary.
I’ll add my dittos to all the other great comments already made! I always look for your videos and I agree with the others on your videos getting better!
Stunning videography! You always deliver the best videos! Thank you for sharing your amazing adventures!

Spend this last winter in Huachuca City. Been to both and everything in between.
A friend told me about Chiricahua NM, and now you showed me. I’ll be heading there in a couple of weeks.

That road looked great, except for the dust ! I missed the time of year of you visit ! Thanks
Love your videos. The views were amazing as always.
Love the jug counterweight! That's so much easier than the springs. The commercial was funny! "In heaven, there is no beer..."
No beer in heaven? Sigh...please don't tell me hell only has Bud Light!!!
Thanks for choosing a very special soul sounding background guitar music.... I love in it

Commercial was great . My favorite channel
No Bobcat or people or snakes, those rocks are incredible!!!
Great commercial. Love the video work.
How timely for this to show up in my suggested list...we are there right now and hiked Cochise' stronghold yesterday!
You document some great sites, thank you.

I truly enjoy your videos. I'd like to know when your next "meet my viewers" meet up will be.
thanks man ive past by this forest a few times and its time to camp there.
That was wonderful
Your Natural Ice "commercial" product placement should earn you some free cases from the brewery, lol! Another fun and entertaining video - thanks!
Inspiration point and crackling fire, wish I was there. Tfs, I'd love to see this place one day.
This area was beautiful and we hope to go back here and camp (it was full when we were there in February.)
