- Should you get an Indian Scout Bobber as your first bike? These are great beginner bikes, with good ergonomics and controlled power. I'm probably biased (read: definitely biased) because my first bike was an Indian Scout Bobber, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong.

I’m 20, but I’m not that big into being a speed demon. I just wanna cruise, so i’ve picked the Bobber 60 as my first bike! I’ll be getting it after my MSF course early 2022. Super excited.

I went to get a Scout Bobber, but i ended up waiting a good 2 months or so for it and canceled it since they didn’t seem very friendly with me during it. i went to a HD dealership instead and got an Iron 883 same day. Not all Indian dealerships are bad ofc, but my experience this time around wasn’t that good. Love the bike I got tho

Love it. I'm 57 this is my first bike. Had friends with bikes and had a 3 wheeler back in my high school days. So decided I needed a challenge. Took the MSF course ( this is a good starting point for anyone considering taking up motorcycle riding ) and passed. Learned so much in the class room and on the riding course. Learned alot from watching sites like yours on You Tube. Anyway you're never to old to take on something new, whatever it may be. Get out of the comfort zone and get out and ride. I'm 57 as well. Start the Harley class this weekend. Looking forward to my first bike. Hopefully a Scout bobber if I can find one. None in my area of Florida.
I'm 51, now, I don't feel so bad about getting a bike at this late in age lol. I'll be doing the same eventually, taking the course, getting my license, and stopping into the Indian dealership to make a purchase. See you on the high ground

I am 57 and started with a Ducati Monster 796 in 2022. Now, I am in the market for a cruiser, and have decided to get an Indian Scout Bobber. I enjoy riding on weekends and will continue to ride in the future while in good health.
Just got my first bike Indian Scout Bobber. Wasn’t sure how I’d go at first but after the first ride I’m in love with her and can’t wait to the next ride. I feel safe. I have so much to learn but I think this Indian will help me. Thank you for reassuring me. ❤
I've watched videos for months on several bikes but I keep coming back to this as my first bike choice! told my self I want to get a motorcycle license for Christmas this year!
Good video. I haven't even become a newbie yet. Looking to get into the bike world. Been wanting to for the past several years, but another person in my house said otherwise lol. Now, will soon get the opportunity. I'm 51 and a disabled vet who has back issues. I've always loved Indian bikes, especially the vintage bikes of the days of old lol. Everybody has a Harley and I wanted to be different. Since I'm lower than a newbie right now, I still have to take the course for my license, I'm trying to decide on what my first bike would be. I'm glad you posted this video because I was thinking of going big, very big and look at the Road Master, just because of my back. The Road Master has a lot of features that would be easy on me.
I've always envied my friends who have/had bikes, but they are/were into the crotch rockets that just isn't my thing. Just like another person who commented, I'm going to take the course, get my license, and go to the Indian dealership close by. By Spring 2023, after my truck is paid off, I'll look into investing in an Indian, maybe sooner. Will definitely post/comment again when that happens.

Haha, I can't believe we both released the same video subject on the same day! Glad we agree and made mostly all the same points. My only addition was the cost is a bit high, even with the Bobber Sixty, for a beginner bike. My first bike was a 2006 Suzuki SV650. I still think it's one of the best first bikes out there.

@@SquarewhiteTV yeah I think it might be better as a second bike but it definitely is doable. Just the price and then being new is gonna hurt a lot more when you drop it but guess that’s true new or advanced riders

2018 scout bobber was my first bike and learning out it was easy but also fun! Indian made a great bike.
They really nailed it on this bike, it’s such a great machine.
Love this video, everything you say is right take it easy, don't go crazy and ease yourself into riding, motorcycles are no joke. I ride a scout and am now in the process of buying a chief dark horse after year, I think the scout is a great first bike as long as you take it easy at first, it can get away from you and can be a beast.

Yeah, it was basically the same for me too. I had looked at a few different bikes but nothing had the looks and performance of the Scout. Just be aware that a lot of people are having long wait times to get them in right now

It can be hard for newer bikers to look for their first bike since they often weigh rideability, price, and cool factor. But you provided many compelling reasons for why the Indian Scout Bobber would be good for novices while respecting that this bike may not suit everyone's preferences.

Go to a credit union and take out a loan through them, i got i wanna say like 2.4% apr for my loan which was 14 grand +. Then again i happen to have enough cash where vould buy bike outright, but trying to build credit with my loan through credit union

Fantastic review in in New Zealand so the cost of $21.000 is just giving me the bike stock standard being female and smaller this will be ideal. My first bike was a 250cc Honda motocross. With a 900cc Honda CB

First bike was a 86 Honda Nighthawk while living in SF. Still riding today and really gearing for purchase of the Scout….
My first bike was a 2007 Ninja 650 that I got in April 2021. I got it for 2 reasons: here in Utah you have to test on a 650 or larger to get the 650+cc endorsement for the license, and everyone has always said to start on a used beater because "You're going to drop your bike. Everyone does." Which turned out to be completely false. To this day I've never dropped a bike(dirtbikes don't count, if you're not falling/dropping those you aren't riding hard enough ;) and after 6 months I've ridden about 10 different road bikes now. I already knew the bike I actually wanted to get was the Indian FTR. There are really no used options since it's only been out a couple years and everyone loves them so much they hardly ever sell them used(that spoke volumes on how good they are). So I ended up getting a new 2022 FTR in June a whole 2 months of learning to ride on the Ninja and I can tell you for certain I could have just started on the FTR and it would've made no difference. Even higher torque, higher horsepower bikes can be driven mildly, and I'm also sure something as puny and mild as a Grom can be driven idiotically. After all these months I'm also convinced that the dimensions, tires, weight, center of gravity, seating position, etc. of a bike in conjunction with the rider's height, inseam, weight, coordination, etc. have more impact on making it easier or harder to ride than just the HP/torque/brakes/etc. As they taught in ancient Greece, "Know thyself". If you don't think you can go slow, ease into learning to ride at a reasonable pace, and you have an inclination for near death experiences, then maybe you should start on something smaller and muted. But if you are humble, safe, and have enough respect for the great responsibility that comes with the great power of a 1200cc+ motor, then just go with what you really want to end up on, and be smart about it. In the end I traded the Ninja for an old Dodge Dakota for my son's first vehicle so no loss there. He wants to eventually get an Indian Scout but I told him he needs a few years of road experience in a truck/car before commuting on a motorcycle. Learning to ride is one set of skills, learning not to die in traffic is a whole other set of skills.
I'm jealous of your new FTR, congrats! Also I agree 100% with everything you said here. Who you are physically and mentally counts for so much. It can be hard to give blanket advice to people, but I suspect people who are doing research to see if they can handle a bike or not probably have the presence of mind to make a good choice.

My first bike after getting my license was a kawasaki zx9r. Had toyed around with annold z-500 before that though and the zx9r was quite forgiving for me. Unfortunately it got stolen and I didn’t ride for almost 15 years because of money. Now i dont feel the need to go fast anymore so last year i got a moto guzzi v7. Live that bike but hopefully one day i can afford a scout bobber. (Though i’d also like an adventure bike like the bmw gs)

I took my MSF course back September of 2020. So many things went wrong for me in the practice riding but then everything clicked and I aced the course. After that I new I had get a bike soon. I had seen, sat on quite a few bikes but then I found the 1. A 2015 Victory Cross Country... i bought the Victoy on the 1st day of October 2020 and I have put 24,000 miles on her since. Feels like I should have been doing this my whole life. Started at 45 yo
For taller riders (6’1 and up), would you recommend we fit our bobbers with mini apes? Also, what is your opinion on the scout rogue(in general and as a starter bike)? thanks!
They would definitely help you sit more upright, which would help a lot. I like the looks of the Scout Rogue, I just wish Indian would’ve done an update to the tuning of the engine as well as the looks
Learned a good lesson in 2007 at 18 years old on my brand new Suzuki GSXR only 6 months after getting it.
I was looking at the scout bobber as it was a dream bike ever since I saw it. I ended up getting the sportster s, 2 weeks ago as my first bike. I hope Indian, innovates the scout bobber with more power, and add that beautiful 4” touch display from the new chief. I love the sportster s bronze accents also and the power.. wow. I’ll buy an Indian scout bobber soon.
I think the Sportster S is an incredible machine. I'm glad Harley made it, because Indian now has a good reason to continue improving the Scout platform.
First bike was a 2018 ninja 400. It was a nice bike but at 5'-10" and 230 lbs I found my feet falling asleep and just generally uncomfortable riding. Traded it in 2022 for a 2022 scout bobber that a girl had ordered and didn't like the color when it came in. The only thing that would be better right now is if it weren't winter in Maine...

Clean bike .. I like when people say beginner bikes .. I clown on their cars and say yea your civic is a good beginner car than one day you can be ready for a snobby Mercedes or Ferrari.. some people stay with their beginner bike and cars til wheels fall off and hairs gray
I rode mopeds and that I’m gonna try and get an Indian scout but see if the dealership will restrict it down to an a2 as I live in the uk is this advisable or will I rob the bike of its characteristics with the restrictor ?

I've got the Ends Cuoio Zuni seat on here. It definitely looks cool, but it's still not as comfortable as like a Corbin or Saddleman seat. After 2-3 hours on this seat I have to stop and let the feeling come back to my ass lol

First bike was a 1983 Kawasaki GPz 750 I bought new in '83. Rode it from LA to NYC. It was a fast bike in '83. Im thinking of gettin a Scout.

@@SquarewhiteTV Hwy 10 west to east. I-95 from Florida up to NYC. I was in Louisiana going 100 mph when I saw a bagger in my mirror HAULIN ASS catching up to me.
I sat up straight ( been ducking under the fairing) and gave the guy a thumbs up when he pulled alongside me!

Looking for my first bike, and I'm really loving the bobber sixty. I'm 22, never ridden shit (overprotective parent unfortunately) minus a tiny crotch rocket my dad bought me on the DL when I was 11. Had to hot wire to start it lol. Loved that thing. I'm 5'3. Would this be a bike I could get down with being this short? Thank you ahead of time to anyone that might reply. It's a cruiser so it's probably the best kinda bike to get for a shorter person it's plenty doable, especially if you get in the habit of putting down one foot at stops instead of trying to flat foot the bike

I just have the stock tire sizes, so 150/80/16 rear and 130/90/16 front. And yeah, although it bugged me at first. I usually look over my shoulder anyway and use the mirror to double check.
My first bike is the Honda CB300R. And now I want to upgrade to this bike.
As a beginner it's super easy to get cocky after a few months...take it from my idiocy..don't get cocky and you won't crash or lay it down.

@@ginawenger6829 I had the 300 and I loved it so much!! It wasn't a badass bike but definitely a fun one made me feel like I was on a grom but fit and felt like a cruiser. I was thinking the same then before I got my rebel and I knew for a fact that I was gonna speed I was gonna be some what dumb with my new bike and I knew being dumb with the smaller bike would be safer and it was blast, I hands down believe rebels are the best beginner and scoot around town bikes literally has everything you'll need to learn and transform into a skilled rider
@@ginawenger6829 just a little add on if you plan on going balls to the wall get a 500 I would have but they only had 300 in black. If your planning on buying a one and done bike go the 1100 and do not take it out of rain mode but if your going for something cheap to learn on and after trading it in for the bike you really want like I did go for the 300 it will get you to 80mph help you learn and hold its value pretty good at least it did where I live im in a cruiser oriented environment good luck and remember slow speed practice builds confidence:)

Maybe not better than the new Sportsters HD is putting out. The Sportster S is a tiny bike though, I’d never really fit on one. They’re definitely faster and have better rider aids though

Get the bobber 60 and spend a bit of money on mods,,, will get you the same performance,,, bought mine at Indian De Jong in Alphen 👌🏻

Why should I choose this over a Harley?
It depends on what you want. It’s cheaper and faster than the comparable Harley (Iron 883 or 1200), but doesn’t have quite the same aftermarket support. It’s also built in America, where not all Hayley’s are. That’s sort of an ancillary reason but I found that important for me to support the working class here

How tall are you and does it feel cramped for you?
I'm 6'3, and it was uncomfortable after an hour or so before I got extended reach controls. I'm actually working on a video right now about taller guys and this bike, because it does need a mod to work.
So by “shortest of short people,” how short are we talking? I ask because I’m legitimately short… like below average height for a woman, but I want a bike so bad!
This is not a beginners bike, 1100 cc... 100 HP.... Aluminum Body and it can go very fast.
Just get. Vulcan S to start.... Then work your way up. I have a Vulcan 900 Custom and going into an Indian Scout Bobber with Stage 2 Performance Package.... When I get older il hop In to a Cheiftain.

K hear me out, you are giving advise to people that a 1200cc (approx) is a good starter bike with no safety gear like armor jacket ( kinda sends wrong message). I have an Indian scout bobber but I will never recommend this bike to a new order because it is not safe. There are plenty bikes half motor size which are great for new riders. I am not hating on you, just don't agree with your points. Great ride though!
It may be a 1200cc engine, but it's in a heavy cruiser. The power to weight ratio isn't out of control, even compared to smaller bikes like the Ninja 400 or SV650 that people often recommend. This is an 80 BHP, 545 lb bike, it is not fast compared to many, many bikes people start on.

100hp and 72 torque with low bars, is NOT a good Beginner bike. Stop putting people in danger, if you don't understand what is actual beginner bike rider, you literally can harm someone. There are many beginner bikes and indian scout bobber is not one of them, period!
