how we do them too. some people use a vent to drain water, i use the vent to air ship them around. if you didn't have a vent open and it goes for a plane ride they can blow up. I used 3/4 " dia. Delrin Rod about an inch long, drill n tap for 5/16 set screw, laminated it in.
Hi Tyrone. You've just inspired me to have a go at making a board. What glue do you use, what thickness do you leave for the deck and the underside after chambering, and what would you recommend for the maximum plank thickness. Thanks.
Hey morgan, i am building one of those, i am from argentina. That board is awesome, Could you tell me if should i glass it? or if it could be unglassed, using just poliester resin? and did you use Expanded polyurethane PU inside of it? Thanks bro !!
Santiago DelloRusso hey, just using the resin is all you need as there is enough strength in the timber. I leave the chambers empty as your only adding weight using the foam good luck with the build
Will Jakicevich it releases pressure build up due to temperature change. you would be shocked at how much pressure is released when you get out of the surf and the board is sitting in the sun for 5minutes heating up. I would definitely put it in as it allows the timber to breathe when not in water and if your heading over seas on a surf trip the change pressure due to altitude would crack the board open at weakest link if not vented
Thanks! Did you create the template yourself or is it a pretty standard shape? I'd like to build something just like it.Just downloaded the light version of Shape3D and trying to find something similar, but no luck in their template database so far as I can tell.
In short you could a few issues pine will be heavier, 4 inches will mean you will have a fairly flat rocker and at 2 inches will be hard to chamber and the jig saw blade will tend to move off the guidelines not allowing you to remove most of the material. result heavier board hope this makes sense
hi, the light coloured timber is paulownia this is used for majority of the board as its light weight and strong. The reddish timber (stringers) is Puapa New Guinea Rosewood
thank you very much! but sadly i can't found this type of wood in my country (france...) Any idea of an other type of wood that could be use and which is more... comon?
hehe! thanks! i've also looked for these one but i can't found them in a 'natural' shape... they are all manufactured... for little planes or for houses... i think that i will be forced to make my first in foam! But a board is a board! if it float! it can be ride!
Just plain beautiful Tyron! Hope you enjoyed the ride!!!
thankyou much appreciated

Great board! looks super! You've got one subscriber extra!
Thanks... it is so much fun to ride

Mike Palmer the glue I use is tite bond 3, I leave 8mm on the deck 6mm on bottom and 40mm is ideal. good luck

thanks bro!! I'm finishing on june probably, then i'll tell u how it rides!
Check out my website www.morganwoodsurfboards.com
Am currently locating the timbers. Are you using polyurethane glue, or 2 part epoxy to glue up the timbers?
RedneckHacker71 I was but now I use tite bond III and seal the board with surfset flex epoxy resin from www.sandedaustralia.com.au
Will definitely look into it.
I have the red cedar timbers and the titebond 3.
Nice video!! but how do you pull apart when u glue them?
Thanks... so when I screw it together making 2 halves I only put 5 dots of glue along the length of the board so its easy to crack open.
Where can I buy paulownia planks like you used? I live in Los Angeles.
I'm not sure I'm on the east coast of Australia and we have plenty of plantations
What does venting do. Is it needed for every wooden surfboard?
Will Jakicevich it releases pressure build up due to temperature change. you would be shocked at how much pressure is released when you get out of the surf and the board is sitting in the sun for 5minutes heating up. How do you decide chambering shapes? is it something of a template?
Doron Levit it's completely random, I just make sure they are staggered and the vertical support is in the middle of the chamber next to it
Looks like a beautiful board. What are the dimensions? Just curious.
fishkc79 it's 7' x 22" x 3". It's really fun board to ride

fishkc79 just created it myself, I just brought the wide point forward and played around with it until I was happy
Would you call that an Egg, or more of a mini-mal?
fishkc79 an egg would be more rounded at the tail so yeah more a mini mal shape.
could you use pine 2x4s?
In short you could a few issues pine will be heavier, 4 inches will mean you will have a fairly flat rocker and at 2 inches will be hard to chamber and the jig saw blade will tend to move off the guidelines not allowing you to remove most of the material. result heavier board hope this makes sense
Thanks for your help I will try it this weekend and see how it goes
which type of wood did you used for?

+ScareAlien balsa is an option but I find it to soft and you need to fibreglass it. the only other option is western red cedar hope this helps
