One of the great things to do and often you do it is to explain the difference between obscure machine lines on the eval bar and real play. There are times when evaluation claims ? But it’s only if opponents find bizarre line. It’s good to know
100% agree with this. I've seen many games where magnus moves an unintuitive rook to free up the 1/8 rank for bishop or Queen while keeping rooks connected. Levi did a video on a game in a European cup about 7 months ago where magnus did this against a 2500GM.
Sometimes you don’t have enough time and tempos are critical- other times you don’t want to commit, and so tempos are actually unhelpful. That’s why “waiting moves” exist- so that you get to commit after your opponent…
Purpose of rook D8 is if he moves up his knight d2 to c4 he magnus can move his queen to c8. Edit) but white didn’t go for it so magnus rotated around keeping pressure on his knights.
You do know that chess is a game of the mind, right? Everything is open. Nothing is hidden. The consequences derive from a player's inability to calculate and evaluate X moves into the future. Chess is not a gladiatorial blood festival with slo-mo replays of gushing blood and eviscera like a Zack Snyder movie. 'Cause if you do, keep it up! Love your takes and observations.
Your analysis was excellent, BUT PLEASE, if possible, don't give away who won the game in your title for us that are unable to watch live or just looking for the outcome. Thank you for the recap, and I appreciate your efforts.
Rooting for hans the psychopath? Why? His interview with Levy exposed him as one. He’s nuts.🐿 You don’t believe me? Ask Magnus or Hikaru. Gatekeepers of chess currently- no one is above them. No one.
I watched the interview. Psychopath is the wrong term; as they tend to take exceptional delight in the suffering of others. He has a lot of traits in that interview that are suggestive of a sociopath. He constructs a chain of logic that since Kramnic thinks he wasn't cheating recently, and that everybody who thinks he did is morally bankrupt; but that one expert's opinion isn't necessarily the only fair one. He talks fast with dubious logic, in order to bamboozle people. While Levi has objectionable personality traits himself, he seemed at least fair there, and Hans was being abusive of him without warrant. He says the cheating he did when younger was stupid, and he's paid the price; but he's not saying it's morally wrong, and no one should except in extenuating circumstances. Such cheating is exceptionally corrosive to confidence in online chess. He's right, IF he is being honest, that the victims were minimal, and it WAS before he was an adult. He seems to have a delusion of grandeur, that he WILL be the chess champion, and his "reign will be so long ...". I can't say he won't, and if he isn't, the reason is probably in his head, and those of his competitors; but it is by no means certain he will, either. He takes great delight in having "broken" Hikaru, and admittedly, Fisher said he loved that moment when a man is broken; but perhaps it is bad sportsmanship to wish to permanently break someone, instead of just playing "good moves" and having strong competition. The thing with sociopaths, is they can lead happy and productive lives; but they should realize they are, and make adjustments for the fact that they are not cognizant of the pain of others, when they should be. They are generally less intelligent on the average, but individuals, as with Hans, can be very intelligent. They magnify their own greatness in their minds, although he certainly is A great chess player. Sociopaths can become functional sociopaths, and he seems functional and perhaps mildly sociopathic - but it is best to recognize those tendencies and adjust for them. He's in good company, tho. CEO's of corporations as a population are higher in sociopaths than the average. Weston Price pointed out that a very high proportion of criminals in jail had bad nutrition when they were younger, and so their prefrontal lobes, responsible for detecting pain in others, were underdeveloped.
Magnus just had a dominating position and could take his time when he moved his QR first to d8 and then to f8 That's the diff between a super GM and ordinary GMs. The super GM is playing on another level positionally. Hans didn't play obvious mistakes but his moves were too ordinary while Magnus' moves had purpose
I rooting more for Magnus, but the only reason I can think of is to delay. Perhaps it was going to be gridlocked and so he did not want temp. That is the only reason I can think of. I'm only 1200 online so I know very little. Lol
Chess doesn't need a wrecking ball. It needs young players who respect the game and the players who came before. I hooe Hans loses a game to a 13yo during the tournament.
I like your game reviews. A couple of things: shorten the videos and try to pick a few spots to put emphasis in the game. When the entire game is reviewed in a “down to the wire” tonality, it can wear the listener out. Good luck and I appreciate your passion for chess.
I like your video review. A couple of things: Never give unsolicited advice, especially to a content creator when I don't see any videos you have created, therefore giving you no authority to comment on the situation.
Hans Niemann imo is just disrespectful of his opponents and Magnus shows him the exit. If it wasn't for his smug, vengeful & disrespectful character, Hans would probably be fighting for the WC title already.
Not a fan of Hans. The guy seems to be a bit of a sociopath. He always reminds me of Commodus in the movie Gladiator, he even looks a little like him. Of all the young players, he's my least favourite one.
Are you guys rooting for Magnus Carlsen or Hans Niemann in the big tournament starting tomorrow - the World Rapid & Blitz Championships??
"rook on b4 square" should be "knight on b4 square". I don't know if you can annotate after upload
@15:05
Bro annotations been gone for a while @@Timberius
People root for Hans Niemann?
@@keenanvil yeah there are crazy people everywhere🤣

I believe Rd8 was clearing c8 for the Q. Magnus was likely targeting the a6 pawn all along.

Maybe he moved the rook to d8 before f8 because he had to see what road white planned.

Rook A to D8 and the Q to C8 was all a distraction. Make them think you're going one direction then pop back to the other side...brilliant
Rd8 makes space for the Knight on b8 - if needed at some point. (Tackling the "Alpha Zero" pawn on a6 at some point?)
Thank you for this video. Fantastic commentary.
Happy New Year to all of you ❤️
Magnus Carlson, the real deal.
The queen move was D file support and plan for e4
Merry Xmas from Sweden!
Purpose of rook D8 is if he moves up his knight d2 to c4 he magnus can move his queen to c8. Edit) but white didn’t go for it so magnus rotated around keeping pressure on his knights.
Perhaps the purpose of Rad8 was to X ray the white queen, in the eventuality the d file would become open ?
"Wasted move" = patience.
Clocks are a nice touch!

Brooo, you have disappeared for a long break!! Hope everything is good with you sir!! Merry Christmas
Chess speaks for itself.
Looks like a Biacore in the background.

He goes rook d8 because if he chooses to go Knight b8 to attack the pawn, he won't trap his rook in the corner

At 20:36 i was like knight goes f3 fork the king and take the queen but magnus just build diff
Made my heart full to see this

Id root for my Uncle Keith playing chess down the local legion club over Hans .....and I haven't even got an Uncle Keith
Hans is all hot air
The extra move probably to force Hans to make move
lost it for Magnus - nasty
In my opinion your reviews are a little too lengthy, no hate. Just trying to help
Magus is just centralizing
Definitely Team Magnus
Why would Magnus respect Hans? Hans has spent his entire career writing checks he cannot cover.
13:49 C takes D4 is a very real threat to do what exactly? hang your own queen?

Honeymoon with Hans over? Did you lose respect for him after the speed chess championship?
No real fish-gutting there...just a patient suffocating advance. Need to work on your metaphors 😉

Magnus.
Rd8 was to support d7 pawn push. When Hans pushed the h pawn Magnus decided to double the rooks instead
Rd8... just a waiting move? to see what white is planning
Why not just F8 cause magus is drunk as a skunk everyday bro
Magnus stalls moves to see the opponent reaction. that is why he is moving illogical

Why would anyone support a cheater i wonder..!! Team GOAT..🎉🎉
