Nightwish performing High Hopes never fails to bring a few tears to my eyes. What a breath-taking way to honour this song.

I fell in love with this rendition of High Hopes the first time I heard it 18 months ago. It is perfection! A bit darker and (obviously) heavier feel to the original, but the sentiment of the original is 100% there. Brilliant arrangement by Tuomas. Marko's vocals though!!! Jeez all-fkg-mighty

I’ve seen this video clip a hundred times and every time it comes by I watch and listen to the end. It’s just like the movie Forest Gump, I cannot come across that and not watch. Empu is fantastic here but I fall in love with Marko every viewing. Just got to love the man and his voice. How I miss him and his duets with their Goddess Floor.

When you realize once more, even as a long time fan of Nightwish, the greatness of a man who can sing like Marko does and yet decides to not be the Lead Singer but to rather step down from the shield and make us gift of the amazing voices of amazing women like Tarja and Floor!
Hail to Marko, once again, as always. In this tribute to Pink Floyd, a band I grew up with when still a teenager,... what a performance!

I still remember when I first heard this song and everytime I return to it the feelings hit me even harder.
Even though the places are still there, we can never go back to the times that seem like elysium to us now.

    You should rewatch
“Shudder Before the Beautiful” live at Wembley on your own.
That way you can share that particular live performance with others.
The best live performance on video of that song

The world is a strange old place :) I know it's super dumb and I'm working hard on my own prejudices but I can't help feeling puzzled every time someone in the metal scene says they don't know Nightwish. I think it's mostly because were I come from everyone knows them - even people who don't know them. I have exactly 0 friends who live near me who listen to metal and yet every single one of them knows who Nightwish are even if most of them probably haven't listen to a single song on purpose. I would even bet that some of them have never heard of Pink Floyd [which is - without a doubt - more of a generational issue].
And that's exactly what I love about reaction channels. You don't only learn about bands you haven't known before but also about music distribution in different countries and all sorts of things really. Seeing you introduce all these people to the bands you yourself discovered through the channel is a real treasure. I honestly love the concept and can't thank you enough!
Now...please...even if you come to not vibe with them at all [which can happen and would be understandable] I really need to see you react to Dir en grey some day!
[I'm sticking around so I don't care when - no pressure! - but I'm really interested in your opinion and it would make me super happy :)]

I'm not surprised that the general population of the US doesn't know about NW, prior to youtube and such we were at the mercy of what was released to us. That's an overly simplistic view but at the core it's the truth, record companies control what the radio stations play and if they have no incentive$ then it doesn't get played. The world is thankfully changing. I am however a little surprised when people "in the business" haven't heard of them, because they have more access to acts around the globe. But even then it's impossible to know everything that's out there. I'm stoked that things are changing, it took me almost 50 years to find NW but I'm hooked for life.

You could tell by looking that your guest was into it. Emppu definitely has David Gilmour influences. I can't immediately come up with a another Nightwish track that has a Pink Floyd feel to it, but I know there must be.

I could say the same about a dozen bands that are popular in my country and are virtual unknowns beyond the border, but I won't, because it's ignorant. There's only so much searching a person can do, and mostly we rely on the radio and whatever we stumble across online - OR we have a friend like Joel who says "check out what I found!". I miss the days of getting mix tapes. If you listen to mostly R&B or Country, or anything other than rock/metal, you're probably not going to hear about Nightwish.
