When I was in the Army, we had entire divisions of tanks and trucks in storage in case of war. They kept the batteries installed and on tickle chargers. I've seen tanks that were in storage for 10 years driven right out of the storage building to a training area.
The Army has a ton of little one cylinder Yanmar Diesel powered generators with solar panels installed on the case top at the factory to keep the starter battery charged. The Army’s been hip to the idea for years. Well played Army.
I’ve always used the Battery Tender to maintain your battery if your battery is sitting for a long time. I have a show car and it sits in the garage all winter. The battery tender keeps the battery topped off without overcharging. I also have two deep cycle batteries that go in my 32 Ft fifth wheel camp trailer. I remove them before storing the camper, put them in the garage and use one Battery Tender to keep them topped off when you use cables to hook the batteries in series. These batteries typically last for six years when the batteries in my truck and car only last 4 1/2 to 5 years. I live in Wyoming and we don’t have as many clear sky days where Scotties solar charger is in use. The Battery Tender use 110volt house current and are very reliable. I’ve never had one fail in the past 15 years.
As an OTR trucker, my car sits for long periods of time while I am away making sure the country keeps flowing. That solar panel might come in real handy. Thank you, Scotty!
You're thinking outside the box Scotty and it makes me feel really bad. I'v had one of those small panels sitting in the closet for years as a backup cell phone charger during hurricanes. I also have a older spare Toyota sitting in the yard as a backup car in case mine craps out. Been going out every couple weeks to throw a heavy battery charger on it to keep the battery up and it's a pain. I'll be putting that panel on the dash real soon. Thanks Scotty.
Thanks for the tip on the solar powered battery maintainer. I got a generic fiberglass panel solar charger from eBay with dubious electronics and over-charging the battery is one of my concerns. It is good to see a solar panel with apparently switches to float charge mode if the battery is full.
Thank you sir. I think I'll be looking into the bike thing for my wife. She's having a hard time learning how to drive, so the bike would certainly help her get around, when I am no longer around. Her job is only 15 minutes away and I'm sure she'll have no trouble getting back and forth on it. Genius 😮
I bought thr same solar battery charger and love it. I bought 3 of them. He did another video showing the sam charger a year ago. Thanks Scotty for the info. I bought 3 of them.
I bought a used pickup three and one half years ago, and found I was driving the pickup while my car sat in the garage. The next time I went to drive my car, no start. I got a little solar panel charger and leave it plugged in. Even in the garage (there is a window) it kept the car battery charged. I have one in both vehicles now, also one for my riding lawnmower. My sister is retired and rarely drives. Wound up in a no start situation, brand new car and battery. I bought her one. She also has a window in her garage.
Nice! But, you can just get the $30.00 dollar trickle charger at Habor Freight... The extra steps of opening the hood & running out an extension cord are not a big deal.. Good for hard winters!
I have a Solar car battery charger . It works on older GM cars but not on Japanese cars because the ' cigarette ' lighter is not on without the key on or on accessory mode . If your cig lighter doesnt work unless the key is on , these chargers wont work unless you keep it directly connected to the battery ( not the cig lighter socket ) Connect it and put a voltmeter on your battery and you can see whether or not its charging .
Get one of those memory savers that attach to the OBD2 port, connect the solar panel to the memory saver, preferably by hard wiring it via solder (or a crimp if you can't solder), that way there are fewer connectors. This will allow you to connect to the battery via a fused connection that is on all the time. I personally took off all my proprietary connectors and that SAE connector and replaced them all with XT60 connectors because they were cheaper than everything else and have real male and female ports so they cannot be hooked backwards. Then I made an adapter from XT60 to OBD2 and now all my chargers, maintainers and solar maintainers can just hook to any car made in the last few decades. Plus XT60 connectors and equipment using them are available in a lot of hobby stores should I need something and am away from home.
One thing to mention is that some cars lighter sockets only work when the ignition is on. I was having battery drainage issues and got a similar solar charger just to find out that my lighter sockets only work when the ignition is on. So I had to run separate 12V wires from the battery into the cab where I could hook it to the panel.

You might have to register the Luckeep e-bike as a motorcycle in the state where I live. There’s a 750 Watt (~1 HP) limit on the assist motor and speed limit of 20 MPH without pedal assist. You might find yourself in a Catch-22 because the state won’t license vehicles without VINs in the standard format (unless you have an old car like I do, from before standardized VINs). Of course you could just go ahead and ride and as long as you aren’t a jerk in traffic probably no cop is going to hassle you about your bike. Riding that little Luckeep 30 MPH must be pretty interesting. I’ve ridden my 27 inch pedal powered road bike just over 30 MPH and it was pretty hairy.
Scotty the battery should be able to hold a charge for at least a coupla weeks. I thought you were gonna push dashcams. I don't move the vehicle without mine. In this day & age they ARE the definitive word in case of a mishap. And you need a decent one with both front and rear cameras.

My car (nissan leaf SL) actually comes with a spoiler, and it has a small solar panel on it, too. It just charges up the 12v battery, which is cool. I don't have to worry about it going flat.

i have in past bike like this one , company engwe very good vehicle its cost 900$ in Europe . But tyres are to big when batery is died back to home are really hard. Batery module you can change in 30 second . And you can buy extra one . Good stuff for good cash .
I prefer using a corded electric battery maintainer at home while using a solar maintainer while out running errands. Solar doesn't produce any electricity at night and minimal amounts during cloudy days.
I'm going to order one for my backhoe battery. I'll test it to see if it has enough balls. I'm getting the 20-watt unit. When I get it I won't be stupid anymore.😂
It should take care of you. They also have 30 and 50 W models if you have really really large batteries like 900 or 1000 CCA. You can mount on a pole or the side of a wall.
Just as I am getting ready to get another solar charger. My Harbor Freight charger from the 90s has finally broken. Been using it all these years. Have a Battery Tender Solar charger in another vehicle. It works fine, but only came with cables to connect directly to the battery. Have to buy a lighter plug separate. Will probably give this one a try.
Nine years ago, I replaced the battery in my van and installed a small solar panel on the roof. The panel is hardwired into the back of an existing 12 v dc auxiliary outlet at the back interior of the van. Nine years later and the battery operates the same as the day it was installed. Battery has never failed to start the vehicle, has never discharged, has never been boosted and consistently measures 12.8 Volts. Brush the snow off the panel in winter when your cleaning off the rest of the vehicle and no other maintenance required.
If that electric bike frame were Titanium it would have a weight and strength advantage. --- One might consider making some kind of snap, clip-on or Velcro connectable red lens set up if you intend to have it flashing in the back of your car. The brightness of the light, against a bright day, may not be seen until you are right on the car.
Solar works for limited thing like charging small batteries. People use them on gate opener batteries and such, but powering people’s home forget about it.
Check your solar charger if you use one. I put one in my jeep for quite awhile. Shame on me. I didn’t check the output. Turned out the Chinese had wired it backwards and the battery was always slowly discharging. I don’t bother with it anymore.
Doesn't even matter in a no fault state. At least it doesn't matter enough to make me want to buy one. The insurance companies just fight it out amongst themselves anyways. An accident is going to raise your rates regardless.
well Amigo ...I guess I'm stoopid ... as I have none of those products ... or the urge to get them ..... but as always, I enjoy your reviews and sharing of knowledge.
One caveat about the solar charger. It won't work if your vehicle has a switched power port / cigar lighter that is only active when the key is in ACC or ON.
Lol! Asian and Euro imports turn off the power ports with the key. Domestic vehicles are the only ones that this will work on unless you modify the circuit to stay hot with the key off on an import.
This is the only thing I could put in my car that would be worth smashing the window for, so there’s that. Those who can afford a garage can’t use it in those that can’t afford a garage can’t protect it. Right? I DO LOVE IT THOUGH!
I enjoy hearing Scotty and his ilk discussing the great products available on the cheap from China. Scotty derides car manufacturers for the Mexican workers being paid the equivalent of about $16 US and he never mentions that in China, they work longer hours and have much higher unsafe work conditions, a little modern slavery in some parts and an average USD pay of $2 to $3.30 an hour.
China needs to go away. We need to stop buying crap that we don't need and try and minimize our purchases of Chinese products. There's literally no way to get away from it, but you can at least try and minimize it.
Because he's a car guy more than a tech guy. Most Americans don't like the fact that most American cars are made in Mexico and Canada now. Even BMW owners are bummed they're assembled in South Carolina. My old BMW was all German, not so much for the new ones.
@@DroneStrike1776 Car guys are that willfully ignorant? Nah. When he’s not actually demonstrating his skill at changing parts, he’s a simple “Us Vs Them” empty barrel.
The speed on all these bikes are limited by software/circuit design. The only real significant difference is in battery longevity. A lot of cities and states force companies to do this.
It's interesting to me how many Chinese products have no brand name. When one considers the size of the Chinese economy one would expect many household brands but that is not the case. I think it's cultural. I remember reading an article in the 80's about a Chinese refrigerator company that was producing poor quality products. The government was upset about this and so they took the company management outside and executed them in front of all the employees. Anybody want to be CEO? Do you want a well known brand name that can easily be tracked? Yeah, there's a reason for a lack of brand names.
The problem with the bike is that depending on where you live, if an electric bicycle can go as fast as 30Mph on the throttle alone without pedaling, then it's legally no longer an 'electric bicycle' and you're going to need to register it. You then will of course also need to have a driver's license and insurance to ride it on a road.
Prople should also keep in mind, some windows are treated and solar wont work inside the car. Though more often than not the front windshield dorsnt have this coating.
The Lexus looks brand new! The battery charger is awesome but I cover my windshield to protect my dashboard from the scorching Florida heat. I wish this charger would have a version that would stick to the window.
The USB type A port on the back of the light is likely for charging your phone off the light's battery. You just plug your phone's USB cord into that port like you would to charge your phone off a USB wall charger or your laptop. The smaller USB port back of the light is usally for recharging the battery in the light after.
@@peteowens3033No the single charge port on the flashlight is USB A. It's a bring your own charging cable and brick situation. Now if you wanted to use usb-C to usb A you would need a usb-c charging brick.
Now if they could make the top of the dash a partial solar panel with automatic engine running cutout, we wouldn't have to buy a new battery here in Florida every 2-3 years.
unfortunately my state has some ebike regulations. The state of Washington (WA) defines electric bicycles as “electric-assisted bicycles.” The electric bike must have two or three fully operational pedals for human propulsion and the electric motor must be no more than 750 W. Electric bicycles are classified as Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 as defined below: Class 1 electric-assisted bicycle means an electric-assisted bicycle in which the motor provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 mph. Class 2 electric-assisted bicycle means an electric-assisted bicycle in which the motor may be used exclusively to propel the bicycle and is not capable of providing assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 mph. Finally, Class 3 electric-assisted bicycle means an electric-assisted bicycle in which the motor provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 28 mph and is equipped with a speedometer. we also have many citys that have ebike regualtions.
The bike does give many people problems with bad hardware, battery life that isn't good from the get go, wobbling tires, tires that go flat just from riding and stuck throttles.
Batteries have the strangest properties to them in some manner. I bet people with EV cars will always run low wich in turn will take away from the life of the battery. Battery replacement =20$ grand & up
I just have booster cables in the trunk...lol I can see how this could be very handy though however its like 200$ where I live while my cables cost like 30$. On the very few times I have need a boost it never took more than 5mins to find someone willing to park their car in front of mine to do so either that said I can see how this would be handy in remote areas camping etc.
I saw a news video about anev bike's lithium battery catching fire on a Toronto suway.the subway car was heavily damaged. People are going to give second thoughts on buying electric vehicles. Why is Honda having a major recall?
Hey Scotty, love your videos! I fall in the category of losing power to my car port when the vehicle is turned off, bummer. I really like the idea otherwise. Also, the Google Pixel 8 pro is honestly the best device in my opinion as the apps are very useful as you have shown. Thanks a bunch for the information.
Also, if you have a newer car the solar charger may not charge the battery through the lighter socket if the car is turned off, so you’ll have to connect the solar charger directly to your car’s battery (cables are included). I show how to in one of my older videos, thanks for the support!

Solar battery maintainers should be standard equipment from the factory for every vehicle . They are so cheap to produce now.
had one for about 3 winters been a god send
I think I know a lot about e-bikes, heck because of Scotty I own one and love it. That folding bike is impressive as hell for the price!
i have in past bike like this one , company engwe very good vehicle its cost 900$ in Europe .
I like Scotty, but I just don’t like him calling me stupid for being a simple man and not having some things I don’t need! 😊
I went out and checked in my car. Apparently I'm stupid, too. 🙄😬
one thing for sure
I do that is stupid is watching Scotty
@@joeandrijeski5085
Hahaha…. That’s a good one! 😂
I'm going to order one for my backhoe battery. I'll test it to see if it has enough balls. I'm getting the 20-watt unit. When I get it I won't be stupid anymore.😂
😂😂😂😂😂
It should take care of you. They also have 30 and 50 W models if you have really really large batteries like 900 or 1000 CCA. You can mount on a pole or the side of a wall.
I love the charger solar charger thanks Scotty. You’re awesome.
I purchased two smaller ones from Harbor freight. Have one in my Dodge cummings truck. Instead of my charger with a cord.
I wouldn't leave that charger on the dashboard if you go to San Francisco.
Lol, I wouldn't leave anything in San Francisco including myself.
Sun? Happy New Year from Manchester England 😅
The solar battery maintenance is All good except I garage my cars - good for outdoor applications
I keep solar maintainers on both my van and my truck since sometimes they don't get driven for a while.
I actually had one of those back in the 90's. It was great!!
I had a solar charger from harbor freight a couple of years ago it works okay until the hot summer sun in California completely fried it
Thank you Scotty !!! 😊 ❤
You have a very good vocabulary, very broad: “ nudge” , hadn’t heard that one in a while. 😀
👍👍 Thanks Scotty! I ordered the solar charger.
The problem with the offshore Chinese easy bikes, is shops won't work on them citing insurance reasons.
Solar Bad. Solar Good, Solar Bad, Solar Good. You can’t make up your mind ole man. You must have a really good wife. I need to pray for her more 😂
Solar works for limited thing like charging small batteries. People use them on gate opener batteries and such, but powering people’s home forget about it.
@@brandonstclair6530 that’s interesting seeing that I have a whole house solar system that works great.
@@ResurrectionProphet So, you have a young solar system and don't live in western Michigan, Oregon, Washington.
@@ResurrectionProphet Same here that person is ill informed.
Scotty you are the best!
That is a cool bike. I like the big tires. Don't like them real skinny ones.
Check your solar charger if you use one.
I put one in my jeep for quite awhile.
Shame on me. I didn’t check the output.
Turned out the Chinese had wired it backwards and the battery was always slowly discharging.
I don’t bother with it anymore.
I've had solar chargers for many years. I have one on my lawnmower to keep the battery up over the winter.
It's off season pricing on the bike.(while they make ready the new improved ones. . .And SO MUCH COMPETITION now too).
One of the things you really, really need for your car as an accessory is a dash cam
nope you can make your phone into dashcam, just need a holder.
@@alvydasjokubauskas2587If you have an older phone that still works, that’s another cheap option for a dashcam.
@@alvydasjokubauskas2587 Not if you refuse to be a slave to a "smart" phone.
Wow! I want to get one!! Thanks Scotty, I appreciate you very much!!😊❤
Thank you for the great review and information!
Can you connect the solar panel to the bike though?? Extended range ? Then connect the light as a headlight!!
Your best recommendation was and still is the best, the Autowyt Supercap 2 battery free jump starter.
Scotty, you are my favorite morning video while making coffee. Thanks for the info
One caveat about the solar charger. It won't work if your vehicle has a switched power port / cigar lighter that is only active when the key is in ACC or ON.
he did say it comes with cables to hook directly to the battery.
Alot of vehicles have multiple power ports usually ones always on other only with key on.
If you don't have a solar charger, an E-Bike AND an LED lamp in your car you are STUPID! Love it!😂
First time I run into these solar chargers was when J.C Whitney still had catalogs.
@ 10:40 who else do you know, who plugs in their electric cord,
to the gas meter ? 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 Scotty is reading a script.

The professional mechanic who leaves his wife’s car without a maintainer for 6 months so it needs a jump. Then explains how that’s bad for batteries…
I have a flashlight that changes via USB A....
@@michaelcarson8375 , are you saying it is USB A on the flashlight ends of the charging wire?
@@peteowens3033No the single charge port on the flashlight is USB A. It's a bring your own charging cable and brick situation. Now if you wanted to use usb-C to usb A you would need a usb-c charging brick.
the solar charger from Horrible Freight kept the battery good enough to fire up my 1959 Ford after sitting for 9 months.
Awesome video Scotty! I love your channel so much.
Don't most cars disconnect the cigarette lighter when the car is off?
No
Yes
that solar panel is mostly for older cars, it wont work on most newer cars
My 2015 chrysler minivan has one cig outlet that turns off on the right side of the console. The one on the left stays on.
Mine too! @@gabebrutal1874
'Xept I believe the right one on mine is the one which remains on. 😉
Now if they could make the top of the dash a partial solar panel with automatic engine running cutout, we wouldn't have to buy a new battery here in Florida every 2-3 years.
Be careful about those solar battery chargers. I had one that plugged into my 12v but it blew a fuse eventually. Never even maintained my battery.
😳ahh what! One of the steering wheels. I swear in going in to the store to the store to get one tomorrow
unfortunately my state has some ebike regulations. The state of Washington (WA) defines electric bicycles as “electric-assisted bicycles.” The electric bike must have two or three fully operational pedals for human propulsion and the electric motor must be no more than 750 W. Electric bicycles are classified as Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 as defined below:
Class 1 electric-assisted bicycle means an electric-assisted bicycle in which the motor provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 mph.
Very interesting stuff. Keep up the good work 👍💪
The bike does give many people problems with bad hardware, battery life that isn't good from the get go, wobbling tires, tires that go flat just from riding and stuck throttles.
Scotty Kilmer is a national treasure.
Hi Scott, I have the solar panel for my car 12 years and works perfectly! Greetings from the Netherlands
I have this solar charger. I love it in my truck but do not use it with an AGM battery.
On the very few times I have need a boost it never took more than 5mins to find someone willing to park their car in front of mine to do so either that said I can see how this would be handy in remote areas camping etc.
love this type of video. thanks
Scotty thanks for the product test! I couldn’t find the product links.😂
I bought the harbor freight solar charger have yet to use it but there's a video on it
So, hook it straight to the battery..like he said you can ,it comes with cables
