    JP stated at the time of the gathering in question that the panel recognized the "irony" of the decision to de-platform FG from participating therein. One could replace the word "irony" with "hypocrisy" and it would have been a much more accurate statement.

    So you 'dis-invited' Faith Goldy because she might be " controversial in a way that might not be productive..." Are these not slightly Weasel words, Jordan? - especially coming from a man who has suffered in this way himself? Lord knows no-one would blame you for wavering in the face of the constant PC onslaught you have suffered, but it surely ill becomes your own philosophical stance to 'cherry pick' free speech issues in this way...

      She went on the daily stormer, a literal neo Nazi hate group right after the Charlottesville incident, it was not in their best interest to have her on with them right after the fact. It looks bad, and like he said it wasn't just his decision. It's perfectly understandable why they un-invited her. They also had nothing to do with Ezra Levant firing her from rebel media.

    Jordan Peterson is confused, Faith Goldy wasn't on Stormfront to conduct an interview. She was a guest *being interviewed*. It was mostly pretty light-hearted chatter, which is understandable considering the traumatic event they'd all just witnessed (Faith was just about hit by the car).

      Another aspect is that one of Jordan's defenses of free speech is that the extreme people like for example the far right, the white supremacists, etc. will be seen as loons by the people if you just let them say their stuff. With that in mind, even by Jordan's own arguments elsewhere, there is no need for anyone, journalists or otherwise, to ask any probing or biting questions. By his own argument even a friendly chat where you "lube them up with kindness" and get them comfortable to be themselves suffices.

      The podcast didnt reveal anything. How about you extrapolate instead of sending people on goose chases. His reasons are very clear. As an honest person with experience with people, I can spot two faced people when I see them. I don't know everything about faith, I watch some videos here and there but no extensive watching. Jordan cares about his good name more than any action. In the interview, I heard nothing racist from either the members or faith, only talk about preserving western culture. I'm a russian and I can guess why she would even talk to these people without researching their background. Sure, maybe their racist,(though wanting to preserve white majority is not racist as there is no hate of any race involved by definition even, but just saying, IF they even are) but they have the activist mentality of all other colored groups and most certainly reflective of russian activism. Like putin said to the west "why did I put down LGBT protests? Why did I not legalize same sex marriage? What you suggesting, that I throw this country into chaos? You do realize that if I were to even bow to your demands, the entire nation will create a revolution the very next day". A soy boy like you won't do shit to fix anything. It all comes down to nature of the people. Activists vs commentators and youtube celebrities. Pretty clear choice right there in her mind. If you want good people to steer clear of racist(well, imassuming only from youtube shit), then don't create an environment that encourages it. Quit being a loser soy boi and piss off.

    But I really do feel that faith being deplatformed was a mistake
    I would much rather have seen her confronted on the topic and questioned about it rather than silenced
    It felt very much like hypocrisy and I wasn't entirely happy about that
    But again I have a deep love and admiration for professor Peterson and will not let this relatively small issue stop my support

    I agree with JP here because in such a controversial hot topic, there were no hot questions in her part as a reporter on the alt right nationalists and she didnt ask those difficult questions that reporters dont like to ask. Listening to the pod cast, she was very cozy and comfortable being on air that Rebel media could have been seen on the outside as being involved with the alt right as being Neo Nazi Racists despite warnings for her not to attend the rally. She worked for and represented Rebel Media and she did not fullfill her reporting duties. If someone was to blame, it wouldnt be JP but Rebel Media because they were looking out for their image and reputation. I do not agree on her getting fired for a situation like this as I believe in giving people many opportunities to improve, as we all make mistakes!

    Seems like the name of the game is to pass the buck. Peterson diffuses blame among the panelists, Saad suggests it was ultimately the decision of the event coordinator, Goldy omits that she understood the implications well enough to offer absenting herself.
    I understand that sitting on a panel with someone who appears sympathetic to a movement you're trying to distance yourself from is bad optics. Clearly, it was a difficult decision. But you have to pick your poison, and the one that makes you a hypocrite to your fundamental platform is the wrong one.

Would it not be better to suggest that Peterson and Goldy have a open conversation on this issue and maybe bring light to the controversy? This is what we are always railing against, no censorship, open debate on a heated issue will be the only way that we can move forward, without that we are no better then ignorant regressives shouting others down because they hold a different opinion then them.

  • @johnciulla2484
    @johnciulla2484 4 года назад

    I don't see any issue with this. He clearly isn't being hypocritical, at least in my estimation. Peterson never took the stance that one should never be expected to be critical of controversial ideas, he merely defended Shepherd in her capacity as a student presenting a topic for the sole purpose of education on that topic from needless coercion to criticize the ideas that were being presented. In Goldy's case, Peterson is taking the position that as a journalist - a purveyor of truth - that you actually seek out valuable answers to valuable questions, even if those questions might cause some discomfort to their recipient. The situations would be comparable if say, for example, Lindsay Shepherd were presenting on a particular group of people, and in her capacity of a purveyor of information omitted - either theough negligence or intent - pertinent and damaging information about the actions and motivations of that group of people. If that group of people were, let's say, the Charlottesville demonstrators who are associated with Heather Heyer's murder, and Lindsay omitted information about Heather Heyer, her murderer, the motivations for the gathering and the violent altercations that took place, and this group's alleged connection to neo-nazism, then it would be justified in my estimation - and likely Peterson's estimation - that Lindsay is due some castigation for not showing that group in a negative light. This is entirely comparable to what Faith did, or rather failed to do, when she didn't ask pertinent questions during her interview. Peterson is not - nor do I think anybody is - suggesting that Faith should have broken the decorum of the interview to attack the subjects of her interview for being evil white nationalists. Instead, people are rightfully critical of her tepid approach to an incendiary subject, which in essence led to the presentation of an interview that bypasses the crux of the issue at hand, thusly defeating the true utility that such an interview would have. Peterson is fine, and is clearly demonstrating a nuance in his perspective, so I'm not sure why everyone is taking his stance on Faith Goldy to mean that he is denigrating her in some way.

But for those who are claiming that Jordan is a hypocrite in the sense that he believes in free speech but then takes part in ‘silencing’, which is a very perverted way of looking at it, others is just a bit too far in my estimation. Rats nest? Well Peterson is taking the moral high ground. The white nationalists have a valid grievance about the way that whites are being denied their natural rights. If equality is a principle, then in the debate the whites are being discriminated against because of the colour of their skin. I am an English patriot and nationalist and a racist because, immigration is making the English just one more minority in a country that is being torn apart by ethnic conflict. Only countries that are homogeneous can survive as nations. Internationalism and the principle of absolte equality is causing suffering to everyone. Ethnic conflict is the reality, not people peacefully coexisting in mutual respect. Human nature has never been like that.

No platforming people is no platforming them and now he's been part of that, the left have every excuse to continue to no platform him and more conservative speakers, it's all the ammo they needed and they handed it right over. Huge error in judgement.
