I had a 2018 Pacifica Limited as a lease vehicle, so I had to return it in August. I got a 2012 Odyssey now. Not as much technology, it got 130k miles right now, but drives and shifts absolutely smoother than a 2018 Pacifica at 45k miles. We noticed right away the seats are much comfortable. The way Honda handles the road, Chrysler can't be even close. We got tired on a long trips, but not on a Honda.
@Vinod Venkataraman Wow. We now actually just bought a 2020 Honda Odyssey Elite 2 weeks ago. We can not get enough of the comfort, ergonomics, how everything is thought out to the smallest detail and how it behaves on the road, power, etc. This is absolutely another step up! Still was comparing to Pacifica and and once again, I conclude that they are so far very far away to that level.
If I have to take a seat 1x, I’ll never get anything other than a Chrysler van. I don’t think you mentioned it, but Chryslers can stow n go in seconds and fit 4x8 sheets of drywall/plywood etc. and close the hatch. Which means I’m rainy weather, a Chrysler can get those sheets home dry where 90% of trucks can’t unless you have an 8ft bed and a toneau cover too
Had a Pacifica that would lurch fwd when stopped at w light. And wouldn’t register throttle when going at times. Safety hazard and tried to lemon law it. Have the ody now. Happy with it. All I want is mechanical reliability. The Pacifica did look better. But we use the Honda sliding seats much more often than the sto n go Pacifica seats.
Rented one to go to DisneyWorld with family and put 2,400 miles on it in a week. Bought a new 2021 Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid Limited about 3 weeks later because we liked it so much. I got over 1,100 miles with the first fill-up. If you charge it overnight on a standard 110 outlet, you get 32-34 miles on pure electric. It's amazing how that adds up and saves gas. On gas in hybrid mode, for longer trips, it gets just over 30 MPG. My MPG, combined with the electric driving, is averaging 61 MPG. I never have to sweat out range because the engine kicks in when the battery power is exhausted. The vehicle has plenty of power in either mode and much more room and comfort than an SUV. I never thought I would purchase, or even consider, a minivan. But this seems to be the perfect combination of efficiency and comfort with lots of storage space when needed. Plus, it came with every driver assist and safety function, including a world-class audio system with CarPlay.
The best come in I read on this video from a consumer‘s point of you if I buy the Pacifico I get you a lot of credit glad you enjoyed your vehicle. I retired from Chrysler with 38 years of service.

To me, there is absolutely NO way I choose a Chrysler over a Honda or Toyota for that matter. Seen too many poor quality Chrysler cars and Vans thru the years. Poor gas mileage too. Had many friends with these cars and the mileage is never near whats on the sticker. Just saw a 3 year old Challenger rusting around the real quarters. Pass Pass Pass.
I was going to say the Pacifica is like putting lipstick on a pig, may look pretty but in 5 years when nothing works and its broken done and only worth $10K and you paid $55k when the Honda will run perfectly to 400,000 miles. Don't see any reason for saying I'd buy a Pacifica over the odyssey.
I was wanting to buy a Pacifica Hybrid so bad ever since it came out years ago since it's (still) the only plug-in hybrid minivan game in town. Kept an eye on reliability throughout the years, and even at the most reliable (2020) it's a 2/5 Consumer Reports reliability score. Honda is 5/5 so I guess I'll eat the mileage to not have all the cool electronic stuff fail, or worse, get my family stranded on the side of the road.
I'ver had 3 pac hybrids now and 150k miles and no issues with any of them. Have been great vehicles for us and great that we go 2k miles before putting gas in the car most months
8 usable seats offered by Honda by default is not to be dismissed. You can get 8 with the Chrysler but the middle row person suffers. Shame Honda doesn't offer AWD but my guess is it'll be there in '23.
I went with the Odyssey EX trim. The Honda’s reliability, resale value and initial deal. The only downside for me is the AWD (which I don’t need where I live).
I own an Odyssey as well, trust me I love hearing the sound of the J35 VTEC whenever I floor it, the Odyssey is very fast for a minivan and lots of fun.
Unless you absolutely 100% NEED the stow'n'go seats, then get the Pacifica Hybrid. By far the best minivan ever created. You get the best of both worlds too with the plug-in EV driving. For all your short trips, you are on EV, but you still have the 500+ mile range of the ICE engine if you need the long distance and you'll get 30mpg minimum. Best we did was 2,550 miles (not a typo!) on a single tank of gas thanks to doing most driving in EV mode (and still had 1/4 tank left)! Bonus, if you get the hybrid you can get $7,500 back federal tax credit in the US, making it cheaper than the competition.
A Pacifica Limited AWD would have been a better comparison. Closer to the Honda's price and with the Stow and Go 2nd row seats. That one feature would keep me from going Pinnacle. To have a comfortable van with all the toys and be able to convert it into a hauler of lots of stuff in a couple of minutes, AND with AWD, then Bob's your uncle.
@@felicelgato59 well 10 years old with 160k on the odyssey we sold for 3k to a family member. I don't buy a vehicle to resell, I intend to keep for approximately 10 years and get another. The odyssey with respect to repairs had minimal cost. Batteries, tires, alternators, power steering pump, AC were the major costs, but the bearings on the sliding door went out as well
90s and 00s JDM Odyssey also has AWD, Canadians can get them for fairly cheap, they have been available in the market for more than 10 years already. The RB3 RB4s do look kind of stylish even in 2021. Those will be available in 2 years.
I guess I need an advice from an actual professional at this point. I have been driving Odyssey 2010 for a couple of years. It has almost 150000 miles on it. Drives really smooth so far. No issues what so ever. We have a son with special needs. One of those needs is he is on a wheel chair. He is getting bigger and heavier so we decided to sell this van and get something newer. Eventually we shall add a lift gate for his wheel chair. If anyone of you has something similar going on, I would appreciate the advice. What is the best option in my case: Pacifica, Odyssey or Sienna. The entire 3 raw will be gone as it will be used for his wheel chair access. Upfront we shall seat our other 3 kids. I will need to get something that will be very durable and will last me at least as much as this Honda lasts so far. I would also prefer more or less gas efficient vehicle. It is just wearing out slowly but surely, I guess. Plus my Odyssey 2010 does consume bunch of gas. Installing all the equipment on old Odyssey and then re-assembling it once it hits 250000 miles plus just does not make any sense to me. I would highly appreciate an honest and friendly advice. Thanks much.
FCA has always made the better looking van imo. We had a grand caravan growing up and I loved it. It was very problematic ( like you’d expect a Chrysler product ) but we enjoyed it lol
I don’t expect that from a Chrysler product. 2015 Chrysler 200 built in April 2014 has 170,000 abused miles on it and so does my dads town and country .
...AGAIN, for the 18th thousandth time, how do you guys not have more subscribers and likes with videos and content like this?! Lol, this was an awesome review. Please do more videos like this, hell, more content period!! Oh, and I like the idea of a Pacifica Hellcat😎, I like the Pacifica period.
I'm a Mechanic, unfortunately, chrysler are taking advantage from customer to use low quality parts to sell more in parts and service department more than Honda.
Great job btw, just one thing you said that if you wanna save the most gas you can't buy a Pacifica, but with the hybrid, you could use no gas if your day trip is no more then 30 miles a day. Or up to 80mpg if you use both gas and electricity. So technically in lots of real life situations, the Pacifica can be bought to be the most fuel efficient van on the road.
Pacifica Hybrid all the way.... no amount of percieved reliability advantage beats going from filing up about once a week to only filling up with gas twice in 3 months. Not to mention way better interior and tech
Great way to have the ethanol in your gas turn to water and ruin the engine in half the time! But have fun! It just feels so nice getting from a to be for more cost doesn't it!
Honda odessey a thousand times over: better build quality on engines and transmission, gas milage and easy to maintain and work on. Says who? Mechanic here. Not to mention the other very good quality, Toyota Sienna. This car guy tried too hard to bash Honda continuously.
Cool, my 2019 Odyssey is a s**t bucket. The infotainment screen stays on and drains the battery randomly. Dealer fix is: here's the fuse to pull to shut it off. Great. Window shades are busted. Sure the engine will run forever, everything around it will be pooched for the next guy.
@@RichardBloomer Did you messed it up in the first place? That infotainment system might be a a TSB, look it up or a recall. There is a simple way to restore functionality by performing a "honda hard restart" procedure.
I like that Honda has the 10 speed now. Hopefully we see that transmission instead of ZF 9 speed in Pilot and Passport and Ridgeline. It does need AWD though, huge miss for Honda. I take the Odyssey unless I need AWD.
Why would you need AWD? Are you gonna off roading with a minivan? lol If your concern is snow, then get snow tires or anything with 3 peak mountain snowflake
The Odyssey is packaged so strangely in Canada. I remember when the base price was only $33k CAD but now it starts at $43k. The Pacifica has such a great interior though. Blows the new Sienna away easily. Plug-in hybrid option is the way to go.
Plug in hybrid is tempting and probably would be more usable then all the space the battery takes up. I love all my storage space in my non hybrid. Pacifica defiantly beat out the other the minivans for various reasons
If the 2021 Odyssey has an eco mode with a VCM engine, realistically it can get over 35 mpg highway mileage going 65 mph. Going 75 mph the economy suffers, maybe 28 mpg freeway.
Is the main reason why I don't like this comparison because the Pacifica was not originally a minivan. Not sure why Chrysler did the name switch. They could have just said the newly redesigned Town & Country.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Great work and appreciate the humor. I do have to mention that the Toyota Sienna counterpart cannot send 100% power to the rear with its awd system as its really more of a suggestion than an actual awd system. It has the dumb "electric" awd system which gets stuck on skid plates consistently in testing. The Pacifica would be my chose. Lovely inside and out with a great NA V6. That is until/if Kia brings over the new Sedona/Carnival here to North America. Then I would go Sedona/Carnival
Chryslers have alot of transmission issues mine died in two weeks.the honda will last alot longer chrysler just trying to sell ya all these bells and whistles to divert attention off there poor quality transmissions. both honda and toyota will last why longer and your get your money worth over time as you will see if you look second hand toyota s and hondas hold there value for a reason. They also still running fine with crazy high mileage.
@@ethanlawrence8132 I agree. People aren't looking at resale value and longevity. People are making the "AWD" aspect of the Pacifica the deal breaker. That's a extra transfer case and "live" drive axle for more problems down the line. I've been driving rear wheel vehicles for eternity. Through snow, sleet, rain, and ice. AWD is another marketing tool in the automobile world in my opinion and ppl base it on their decision. The Odyssey seats 8.....you can't beat that with a bat.
Depends though as the Odyssey second row seats are much more comfortable. For the few times I need the extra room and have to remove the Ody's seats the trade off of seat comfort is not worth it .
It's #2 this year. We rented one and I fell in love. I looked at the Honda Odyssey and was disappointed! I don't know why the rental companies choose Pacifica over Odyssey though because they aren't cheaper
Yeah, I'm a Honda owner and my 2016 started peeling randomly one day. Luckily it was recalled but good luck trying to get Honda to fix it! Took months and they kept my car over a week without lending me a loaner car. They only repainted the panels that were peeling so if it starts peeling again they said "oh well". It was specifically with the white orchid pearl color, and this paint has been retired - but still very disatisfied that my brand new car started peeling and rusting despite no accidents ever at 25k miles
Pacifica is nice but odyssey has a better trade value then pacifica , (if you care about that )Chryslers DO NOT KEEP THIER VALUE, smart buyers know better. I think Chrysler paid some really good money for this review 🤔
Chrysler, like gm has electrical issues. But to be honest the trade value is just because of the engine longevity. Which is not bad for Chrysler either if you have had one. My dad had a town and country for 20 years. I believe the point of the Chrysler Pacifica is for the customer to not want to resell it (like most cars companies I guess). This vehicle, aside from some mechanical issues or an accident is pretty much the ultimate vehicle.
I keep hearing about trade value! Fun fact: I went to Edmunds to compare a 2017 Odessey Elite (every option) to a 2017 PacHy Platinum (every option) each with 100k mi. I won't tell you how it turned out but I sure was surprised!
Yeah but if I'm buying a car just for resale value then what's the point? The Chrysler has so many nicer features, and LOOKS better too. I'm a current Honda owner and think I'm ready to make the switch
@@rapclient4961 even the non hybrid pinnacle doesn't come with stow n go. Seats are thicker and can't fit in the bin. You would think these reviewers would test it out but I guess not
If you haven't driven either, then respectfully, please shut your cake 'oles. My main concern remains with FCA's appalling overall reliability record for their vehicles. However, I have read a far better than average for the Pacifica. Would people that own the Pacifica. please comment how you have found the reliability? Another problem, is that FCA's reliability record means low residual value. Lastly, both lower trim versions use the bad 9 speed ZF auto box, any current owners want to comment on that box? Is it as bad as the reports say (Alex on Autos and Savage Geese for example)?
We bought the 22 Pacifica, daughter and her husband bought a 22 Honda, both retailed about 42k so both lower trim. My opinion is Chrysler much louder way more road noise, Honda feels much more bolted together, Honda came with a spare, I’d have never bought the Chrysler if I’d known it didn’t have a spare tire! Honda also has a power passenger seat and sun roof. Now I’ll have a 40lb. bullet, a after market spare with no way to secure it in the back. GET THE HONDA, we made a bad decision!!!😡
No with all do respect the honda odyssey is the best you dont need tech and luxury to be great the honda has one of the best minivan engines and fuel economy
I recently was at Honda dealership and was so surprised with the vehicle they have there. It's a 2007 Honda Accord with 617000! Yes! 617000 miles on ODO!🤯 And it still drives great!💁♀️ Can Chrysler do that???
Why does it matter, it's using Mopar parts and shares component with Dodge, Jeep, and Ram. You shouldn't be worried about parts availability if the brand does go out of business which I doubt will happen.
I hope it doesn’t get canceled hopefully it doesn’t have any crazy exes in it’s past that will make up lies like what happened to the great Bryan Callen.
We are seriously looking at a Pacifica Limited instead of the Pinnacle because Pacifica the Pinnacle and the Hybrid don't offer 2nd row Stow and Go. For this video, the Limited would have been a better comparison to the Honda.
Honda’s quality has taken a big hit. I wouldn’t count on their cars anymore. Plus, you see far more old Dodge Grand Caravan’s on the road then old Honda minivans.
@@Kiddro22 Both my Aunt and sister have Honda’s and they have been in the shop for more repairs then my dodge. My aunt has a Honda Odyssey and so far she has put in over 10,000 in repair bills since her warranty expired. My sister has a CRV that is newer the my Grand Caravan and has been in the service department over 8 times. My Caravan has only been to the service department once. I drove Toyota’s for 24 years. I owed a Corolla, Camry and a Avalon. I had more issues with each of my Toyota’s then my Dodge. My 1994 Camry was a total lemon. My Dodge Grand Caravan is my favorite vehicle that I have ever owned. I admit that I was very leery of buying a Dodge. Every time I could I would ask owners of Caravan’s if they would buy a Dodge again and if they liked their Dodge. Most of the time they all said they had no issues with their vehicles and liked their Dodge. I took the risk and I don’t regret my decision at all. The fact is Honda’s quality is not the same as it used to be. Honda no longer as the best quality vehicles.
@@bobp1016 understandable. I personally have a 2002 Ram I still drive today. 160k. No major problems. But then again I don’t drive aggressively. The problem with Toyota and other foreign makes is that they’re mass producing here in the States. But the auction low bid for the parts/components are cheap and not quality. These simple low grade parts/components are ruining their reputation.
@@Kiddro22 Being massed produced or built in has nothing to do with Honda’s quality and reliability. Some of the most reliable cars are mass produced and built in the USA. Honda’s problem is not just cheap parts. It’s also their designs. The CVT transmission has played a large part in Honda’s quality.
I know someone with over 400,000 miles on a 17 Pacifica, if you look through the vehicle reliability ratings there are years especially the last 4 or 5 that the Hondas have been the same if not worse in the ratings. It's not the 90s, honda has not been making the vehicles they use to.

No transmission issues with any Chrysler product built since 2009! Can't say the same for the Hondas though! Get the March 2021 Consumer Reports and look at the top 10 by consumer satisfaction and All Of The Dodge/Chrysler vehicles were rated in that group. Your Hondas were 16th! Things change!
My brand new Honda started peeling paint at 25k miles. Turns out there was a recall on the paint and it took months to get them to resolve it. Embarrassing driving around a new car with paint and rust. Honda isn't perfect and they get away with murder simply because of their name
I owne town & country 2015 since new engine needs repair right after the extended warranty is gone (75,000) ..so no more 3.6L for me ..that’s plus bad gas mileage 1st 20,000 I was lucky to get 18/mpg now the most 21mpg …..now let’s talk about resale value…Honda one of the best to hold on that …Chrysler 😅 your money out of the window….no more Chrysler for me …I’m going crazy for the Grand Cherokee L …but sadly to get the 5.7L you have to pay over $65,000😇
A few things here. Yes...Pacifica is the nicer of the two (probably the nicest minivan on the market) in terms of aesthetics. However...if you're only going to drive it 100,000 miles and then get a new one then fine....but if you want a van that will just go and go for forever then you go with a Toyota or Honda. Simple. Chrysler is the worst American Car company (except for Jeep...which is where all of their money comes from and goes out to developing). The 4 wheel plug-in hybrid for the Pacifica is super enticing...but you cannot trust it. It's their first real hybrid (outside of that really really bad SUV from a decade ago). Anyhow. It would be great if Chrysler figured out how to build great, long lasting engines and transmissions. But they don't. Until then. Buy a Toyota.
On certain trims like Limited or Pinnacle level, you don't need to tug on the sliding door handle to open it, you just need to press the small button on them, please learn the product your attempting to review.
Please No one in these comments mention reliability because the Honda JUST had the same Chrysler shared zf 9 speed transmission. You all are brainwashed.
Not true at all. Honda reliability is nothing special unless you still live in the 90s. Finally, you need to consider actual transaction price. Honda never discounts while Chrysler always put cash in the hood. That transaction price difference would be more than enough to cover a major repair compared to the Honda. People never think this through. Look at the money that actually comes out of pocket. It will be a wash and you could have driven the better vehicle the whole time in the Pacifica. Alex on Autos does a terrific job breaking down true cost.

Have the same issue with my son,..it's so hard trying to find a suitable van to have powerchair modification..best wishes for your family!
@@Natethegreat200c there is more beat up caravans than odyssey on the streets that's for sure

I'm a Mechanic, unfortunately, chrysler are taking advantage from customer to use low quality parts to sell more in parts and service department more than Honda.
Hence why we are in the process of purchasing the 2021 Pacifica Hybrid.
Just got mine last week loved it, $10k off msrp

I just started year 3 and put on 45k it has been awesome
Looking at the Pacifica really makes you realize the audacity of the Metris.
The Honda was missing the most important part for what I do. Stow and Go. I don't want the hassle of having to remove seats.
I'd get the Pacifica
Right now I'm in a 2020 Toyota Corolla LE. trying to save up for either a Toyota Sienna or Chrysler pacifica.
@@RichardBloomer
Did you messed it up in the first place? That infotainment system might be a a TSB, look it up or a recall. There is a simple way to restore functionality by performing a "honda hard restart" procedure.
I like that Honda has the 10 speed now. Hopefully we see that transmission instead of ZF 9 speed in Pilot and Passport and Ridgeline. It does need AWD though, huge miss for Honda. I take the Odyssey unless I need AWD.
Why would you need AWD? Are you gonna off roading with a minivan? lol
If your concern is snow, then get snow tires or anything with 3 peak mountain snowflake
You’re absolutely correct the Basilica was not originally a minivan and it came out when Mercedes-Benz on the company it was a Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
I’d take the pacifica
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Great work and appreciate the humor. I do have to mention that the Toyota Sienna counterpart cannot send 100% power to the rear with its awd system as its really more of a suggestion than an actual awd system. It has the dumb "electric" awd system which gets stuck on skid plates consistently in testing. The Pacifica would be my chose. Lovely inside and out with a great NA V6. That is until/if Kia brings over the new Sedona/Carnival here to North America. Then I would go Sedona/Carnival
But, the Kia doesn’t have Hybrid and no AWD. It does however have very good looks.
@ Blake...Kia doesn't have stow away second seats either. For me that is huge, easy conversion to camper and hauling Home depot items and bicycles.
@@meenam300zx me too, stow and go is irreplaceable for me, that’s why I only buy Chryslers (Town & Country or Pacifica)
Had a 2018 Buick enclave but with 4 kids in car seats looking for something more car seat friendly. Definately looking at the pacifica to upgrade
I've done 35 mpg with super unleaded gasoline at 75 mph without using the green stuff...2019 odyssey touring
I can back up that statement. We get 35 mpg on a 65 mph cruise in our 2021 Odyssey
Honda looks better but I vote Chrystal
I wish Honda would add Stow and Go seats to the Odyssey.
Depends though as the Odyssey second row seats are much more comfortable. For the few times I need the extra room and have to remove the Ody's seats the trade off of seat comfort is not worth it .
They would need to make them small and uncomfortable like the Chrysler.
If you remove the rental company sales of the Pacifica... does it still make it the best selling minivan?
Never see one for rent I live in Saint Louis Missouri

Before you buy Odyssey, you may want to search 2012 Honda Odyssey paint chipping off and Honda doesn't care.
Did you mean 2021? 2012 problems would be irrelevant at this point.
Same thing I said. As far as resale......ODYSSEY ELITE!....and I'm done.
Honda does not have a 360 camera.

Skipped right over the fact that the Pinnacle does not have mid stow-n-go seats…
Funny how they don't even mention that stow n go doesn't come on the pinnacle trim

The Chrysler Pacifica would be great for people unless you live in a apartment where you can't charge it up
But will the Chrysler brand be cancelled?
No please don’t start that shit
Why does it matter, it's using Mopar parts and shares component with Dodge, Jeep, and Ram. You shouldn't be worried about parts availability if the brand does go out of business which I doubt will happen.

We are seriously looking at a Pacifica Limited instead of the Pinnacle because Pacifica the Pinnacle and the Hybrid don't offer 2nd row Stow and Go. For this video, the Limited would have been a better comparison to the Honda.
If you don't get it loaded, you can save $20K. Do you really need every expensive gadget?

Both my Aunt and sister have Honda’s and they have been in the shop for more repairs then my dodge.
@@Kiddro22
Being massed produced or built in has nothing to do with Honda’s quality and reliability. Some of the most reliable cars are mass produced and built in the USA.
Honda’s problem is not just cheap parts. It’s also their designs. The CVT transmission has played a large part in Honda’s quality.

The Pacifica might be nicer, but if you’re going to keep it long term buy the Honda. That Pacifica will not hold up.
