Andy Reid said in his interview after the draft that they drafted Mahomes because he blew them away at the white board. He had perfect recall of plays, recognition of defense and incredible vision.
Matt Nagy also gave him the list of plays that they were going to ask him the next day.
@@loganleroy8622true lol that story is really funny, but Sean Payton also said Mahomes was the smartest QB he ever interviewed pre draft and the Saints were going to take him at pick 11 if the Chiefs didn’t jump them and get him at pick 10. and Mahomes has proven in the NFL he’s not just physically talented but also mentally superior.
Well Brett Veach had been scouting him for some time and said he's the greatest talent he's ever seen, so you combine that with those intangibles you want out of a QB, that explains why they absolutely had to trade up to get him and do something the Chiefs pretty much never do, which is draft a QB for the expectation of sitting him for a year before he starts ahead of a veteran QB who'd been winning in the regular season but had a clear ceiling.
@@loganleroy8622Yes he did! Glad he helped him cheat! 😂
@@Jerid58 Part of me wonders if they didn't do that with all of the quarterbacks they were looking at to see whether or not they would look at and study the material they were given.
I just feel bad for Patrick that he never gets to attend the Pro Bowl or NFL honors. Poor guy always has to play football instead. Lol.
I know! What a horrible problem to have!!!
😂
Think about how many more games with the extended seasons and shorter time off than other teams over his career!
I was texting with my buddy during OT. When the whiners kicked a field goal I said it’s over. Mahomes is the biggest competitor I’ve ever seen. He’s money.
That's when I knew without a doubt that the Chiefs were going to win the game.
Sure buddy
The best thing to ever happen was let PM sit behind Alex Smith for a year and just learn. Build his NFL IQ and just absorb everything before being out out to the lions. It defined his career moving forward. Biggest chess move Andy ever made.
With this, and seeing how Jordan Love played this year, I don't understand why teams will still rush a QB on the field, when we clearly see the benefits of letting them sit.
@@Blaque_Island Coaches are worried about their jobs. Matt LeFleur and Andy Reid were never going to be in the hotseat.
He is indeed the greatest player we have ever seen.
@chetsenior7253 if he can catch him
@chetsenior7253Butkus was slow as molasses he ran slower than 6th round linemen do now days. Patrick would have made him look so silly.
Fred Warner is a much better athlete and he couldn't touch Mahomes running right past him.
Lmao 😂
Daniel Jeremiah is the Kiper of the NFL Network 😂😂
Such a good point and a unique take from Jeremiah. I don't see anyone else talking about a "memory bank" being a key indicator of current or future success, but it makes a damn lot of sense. Right or wrong on Mahomes, Jeremiah's perspective is valuable in my opinion.
To process information faster you have to have a form of data in placed already to draw from. The speed of processing information is the same trait in all great quarterbacks.
The best attribute a QB can have is to be able to make good decisions quickly.
Any other coach especially in another time in the NFL. A team might have drafted mahomas but the first thing they would try to do is fix him they would break him down and try to change everything about him. Andy Reid said no just let him set one year and turn him lose. How many great QBs have we missed out on seeing over the years. Because a coach said we gotta fix this guy? I would say a lot.
Probably not many
Not many. There is a reason you fix issues.
@@erichall090909 if any team other than KC our New Orleans would have drafted mahomas do you think they would try to fix him or let him play the way he played in college?
Lol Stop, you out here making excuses for greatness.. Some humans just have natural talent that other humans don't have and will never have.. That's why you have a Wayne Gretzky, a Michael Jordan, etc..
@@JohnnyCdz dude that's what I'm saying. There was only 2 HC looking at mahomas Reid and Payton. The only 2 that didn't want to change him because they could see his talent. I didn't know who he was until I watched him play Oklahoma. He had 700 yards in a game against Baker Mayfield.
I remember watching Gruden's QB Camp with Mahomes and thought he had it. There was one particular moment that sticks out and it is when he made this stupidly insane throw and Gruden asked him why he made that throw. Mahomes response? Because he could. Then his official debut against Denver as a rookie showed a ton of promise. I also remember saying after the Chiefs signed Sammy that we were going to find out quickly if he was THE guy. He was.
So do a lot of people. Apparently, only Veach, Reid, and Sean Payton thought anything of him lol.
I still remember Shannon Sharpe saying he didn’t get it, Stephen A going off because he was drafted ahead of Watson…
Right. Pat wasn't the talk of that draft it was Watson and Trubisky. Now Shannon is Mahomeboy this and Mahomeboy that.
@@AdrianKendrickNot even Veach saw this coming from Mahomes. Watson was better in college so anyone would have that reaction. Mahomes was an anomaly.
@@spomusmo2349 Veach was the one banging on the table and sending Reid and Dorsey tape from Mahomes as a freshman.
And now all these clowns are hyping up Caleb Williams... as if they have any actual ability to spot talent... None of them saw Mahomes coming
Well yeah. All they get access to is the tape. Mahomes stood out because of his private interviews, which obviously were kept private by the saints and chiefs and other organizations as he was someone everyone hoped would stay under the radar.
where do I find this pre draft interview with DJ and Bucky?
DJ's "Top 50 Prospects for the 2017 NFL Draft" has DeShone Kizer as the highest rated QB (@ #15!), Mitch Trubisky ahead of Deshaun Watson and doesn't include Pat Mahomes AT ALL?! I know scouting isn't an exact science, but that one is unforgiveable. These "experts"/talking heads need to held more accountable. If Daniel Jeremiah tells you the sky is blue, go outside and double check.
Facts
This is exactly why I don't take any of these draft analysts seriously. None of them know how to evaluate talent. So should we trust him when he says Caleb Williams is the best QB in the 2024 draft??
Everyone should realize by now that the biggest factor deciding what makes a QB great is between the ears. Is that why the runners aren’t great? What else could it be?
Thinking the Chiefs willl be favorites to be the first team to 3peat. Ever. Me thinking they will.
Next season will be a long one for the Chiefs. Every game will be the other teams Super Bowl. Hope they get a couple of great receivers in the off season and can afford to keep Jones and Sneed. Let's Go!!!!!
The Green Bay Packers 3-peated in '65, '66, and '67
@jackbauer4186 true but they are talking about the super bowl era
@JackBauer4186: The 1st Super Bowl was 1966 so they couldn’t have won in 1965. They won SB 1 & 2 then didn’t win another until SB 31 and then the last time they won was SB 45.
My prediction is that 30 years from now were going to be debating if Patrick is the GOAT, only the debate is not going to be about being the GOAT qb because he'll have retired with that undeniably locked up. No we'll be debating if he's the greatest COACH of all time or if Andy Reid still holds the title.
Way to back track 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Are we trying to act like this isn’t completely typical for the “experts” to get it wrong? These guys are constantly getting it wrong.
Why are we acting like the Chiefs talking 3 peat “openly” is so omg 😱 they’re so bold. It’s every teams goal to win a Super Bowl… every season right? It just so happens if they win next year it will be a 3 peat…. Of course they are talking 3 peat. They can’t talk about winning a SB (like every other contender) without talking 3 peat. What are they suppose to say? “Oh no we’re not planning to win a SB next season, we are taking the year off”? Lol
Mahomes' football IQ actually unleashed Andy Reid to make crazier and crazier players, more and more complex schemes
He didnt have this dense of a playbook for Mike Vick, or even Alex Smith.
I think we all can confirm at this point.
Is this the dude who said “ he has no footwork, but he can throw the football over them mountains “? This is the sumbich?
Boy was he wrong
And that’s understated.
I remember when the Mocks were flying around and he was predicted to go Redskins...
He would be a bust if he had made it to us as we have had awful QB coaching
I wouldn't say boom or bust was a bad take. He could've easily flopped in the wrong situation.
Dan asked my Uncle Jep too the prom in 84’ my uncle told him no way
Great situation which has been stable, amazing talent, smart, hard worker, and he lives a simple life. I mean he seems like all he does is football and rest. He is annoying because he has zero weaknesses and he evaluates his WRs and people want to play with him.
I compare and contrast Mahomes to Kyler Murray. Kyler Murray is an amazing athlete, but he doesn't have the work ethic that Patrick Mahomes does, not even close. He also the smartest, and hardest working qb in the NFL. Maybe, MAYBE Peyton and Brady were in the same league for work ethic, but I'm not sure.
Chiefs played 21 games this year. Cowboys players said they were tired playing in their 18th game😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can't live it down now?
Everybody gonna play Chiefs hard next year
im pretty sure everyone plays the chiefs hard every year since 2018...
That’s nothing new. They’ve been getting every team’s best shot since 2018-2019.
Every time someone beats the chiefs in the regular season it’s their superbowl.
I feel like I’m reading a comment from 2018
Haha o no they’re dead then, they will play hard against them 😂😂😂
Will DJ remember something he didn't mention in his pre-draft analysis when Caleb Williams turns out to be a 😅 bust???
This is why you can't take what these idiots say seriously
This explains why all of this guys predictions and evaluations seem so off, he has zero idea of how to actually evaluate NFL talent. Why is he on all these shows, there are guys sitting on their couches at home that are better talent evaluators.
If it wasn't for a few factors the Chiefs could have won the last 6 SBs! Sheesh... Just Imagine lol

Peyton Manning? PM is one of the biggest chokers of all time!!!
Peyton is one of the goats, but that guy threw so many hospital balls to his receivers. Dallas Clark got murdered constantly by those balls man... CTE city
@@NinetyOneTil I swear Austin Collie must have been sleeping with Peyton's wife because he got fucking killed.
Daniel Jeremiah always makes bad mocks & bad scouting reports on players. The only time or moment he gets a mock correct is 8hrs before the start of the draft. He gets insider info from some teams' 1st pick. In other words, ignore everything he says in Jan thru mid April (cuz he is awful at it) & listen to his tweets immediately before the draft.
