Greetings Shelfington and hello Ian 👋 Seems Rocket 🚀 Card Glue is even more scary than the Jigsaw 😱🤣🤣🤣 I prefer their Glue and Glaze product, it is much more friendly 😎 The Backscene came out great 👍 and the blue tack didn't leave any bubbles ✔️ job well done 😇 onwards to the track 😁 Very best wishes from the Emerald Isle ☘️

Greetings to you and the folk in the Emerald Isle! Argh! Rocket Card glue - what a nightmare! I'd battle with a Jigsaw any day of the week rather than use it again! Lol! It was probably the wrong choice for the job to be honest, so my bad! I'd definitely use Mod Podge if I had my time over, but this is all a learning experience, so I'll know for the future! Thanks, yes, after the glue and air bubble incidents, I think I got away with it! I think my scenic break board solution is next up, but track laying isn't far off! Exciting times! All the best from me and the folk at Shelfington!

Hi Ian, great video, seems virtually everyone has had their challenges with back scenes, I think Dave at Dean Park on his second attempt got it right and it all seemed to be about sealing the board he fastened them to and the glue. The key thing is the environment as some in lofts have started out great but changes in temperature can causes issues. I think yours look good , I'm yet to get to that point. Cheers

Hi Chris, and thank you! Yes, I think heat plays a big part of the eventual outcome of how a backscene can look! I'm hoping that my Blu Tack section will be immune from temperature changes as it's only tacked every six inches or so and can be easily adjusted if needs be! It'll be interesting to see how the back scene on the end board is affected, although despite being nearest the window, it doesn't actually get any direct sunlight! Obviously you've got way more ground to cover than me so it'll be quite a big challenge, so good luck when you get to them! All the best, Ian.

G'day Ian nice job on the backscenes I think most of us have had some sort of issue when installing them! I've also got some of those Peco ones that came with a magazine, they suggest to iron out the creases! Haven't tried it yet, might all go up in flames!!🤣 Cheers for now. John

Hi John! Thank you! Yes, most videos I've seen involving backscenes have ended up with people having to solve some sort of issue! I was determined mine were going to go up smoothly though! Oh well! It all adds to the modelling experience, doesn't it? An iron? I don't think I've possessed one of those since the 90's! Lol! All the best, Ian.

I must confess when I saw how much Rocket card glue you were using I could guess what was going to happen. It is ferocious stuff. I use it a lot because it is great for quickly sticking card when scratch building, but I use an extended very thin nozzle. You really don’t need very much and it does get everywhere if you give it half a chance, quite how is a mystery. The back scene looks great. Lots of modellers struggle with fitting them but you have made a good job of it. Stephen

Thanks very much Stephen! In hindsight, Rocket Card Glue was the wrong tool for the job, but we live and learn, and next time I'll know better! All the best, Ian.

Hi Ian, the backscene looks great! I will need to follow your technique, my current backscene is in need of replacement as it’s all creased where the contact adhesive did not contact! Another job for the future 🤣 cheers Gary

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  2 года назад

Thanks very much Gary! If I were going to stick the backscene to the wall then I think I'd use Mod Podge, as it has done a great job of sticking the little piece onto my end bit of cardboard! Others have suggested wallpaper paste, which makes sense, but whatever adhesive I used, I'd use it sparingly! I actually think the Blu Tack is a great solution as it allows me to take the backscene down fairly easily should I ever want to replace it! The glue mark on the front will get to me one day, I just know it will!!! Lol! All the best, Ian.

    Looks fine.
On my layout I didn’t like the sky on my back scene photos, I ended cutting the sky off by cutting slightly under the horizon.
I then spread glue on the back using a Gluestick and then stuck it on a pre painted backboard, blue at the top fading to white at the bottom.

Thanks Peter! That sounds like a great idea for modifying a backscene! I'm going to use a similar approach when I add the reservoir scene to my existing backscene by cutting away the sky and then gluing it to the backscene! Cheers, Ian.

Hi Ian, backscenes, mmmmmmm, mine is rubbish, yours looks good. The best I’ve seen was Graham Foulston’s on his Lakeside layout, they were sticky backed and a couple of others using double sided tape. I’m actually going to re tackle mine at some point and just paint them a sky blue as I don’t really need a picture as such. I used the Deluxe backscene glue which was expensive and still bubbled up like mad, wall paper paste was slightly better and cheaper! Nice solution with the railway modeller backscene too, it is better than the curtain, lol!
    Cheers Ian, John

Thanks John! Yes, I've seen Graham's and they're good! I think if you're going to glue the backscene then the key is to not use too much glue (and only use it on the back!) and to keep the whole scene as taught as possible as you apply it! I'm happy with the Blu Tack solution, as it'll be easy to switch scenes if I ever want to! Haha! The Railway Modeller backscene has turned out great! Definitely better than curtain! Lol! All the best, Ian.

Hello Ian Yes, your backscsene is brilliant, I might try your methods myself, hopefully not copying the gluing bit, lol. Although the boards I have came with panels to put the backscene on, although so far I hve just painted it 'duck egg blue', Good luck.

Thanks Peter! Well, it hasn't fallen down yet, so the Blu Tack is definitely doing a good job! I actually considered painting my whole wall blue initially, and was going to attempt to paint some clouds, but I think the pre-printed backscene looks better! Good luck to you too! All the best, Ian.

@@iansngauge a good one like solvit, not a cheap one. On the mixing chart use the ratio second from the bottom (thick paper). Please feel free to check out my channel

Rocket is great, but Pritstick is a better solution for situations like this. It allows a short window of time to adjust and, if evenly applied, doesn't give air pockets

Thanks Neil! Of course you're right, and it just goes to show how little I knew back then! Roket card glue is great stuff when used correctly, but it's still the work of the Devil, as it gets everywhere! Thanks for watching! All the best, Ian.

Nice backscene, not a fan of the Roket card glue really, not too bad when used on Metcalfe kits if used sparingly, but with a backscene, you get many air pockets , my backscenes put on with a slightly watered down PVA, you could try wallpaper paste I suppose

    • @iansngauge

Thanks Colin! I think I'll save the Rocket Card Glue for kit building too! The Mod Podge I used for the rescue of the corner backscene worked great, so next time I think I'll use that for everything! Wallpaper paste sounds like a good shout! Cheers, Ian.
