    Nick, you are point in this review. I completely agree with you in that during a mission, personal feelings should be set aside , with only focus on the mission. I rolled my eyes seeing Book and Burnham discussing their emotions in the corner somewhere, acting not like a Breen...easy way to be caught. The 2 Black hole scenes didn't make sense to me other. It was just an okay episode. I liked seeing Rayner take control and Saru and T'rina showing much respect for one another. Doug Jones absence in this season has been noticeable.

    I met Doug Jones last year at the Creature Feature Convention where my movie was premiering which I assume is when he was gone for filming this show. Sweetest man ever. I have been a fan since he was in the episode "Hush" of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and followed him since then. What a talent! And very genuine. He is fantastic on this show and it's incredible how he can convey so much emotion through prosthetics the way that he does.

    Sometimes I feel I'm watching that late 70's sitcom: "The Love Boat" instead of a show about a military vessel on a desperate mission. I'm waiting for them to call Booker the name Gopher (a character on The Love Boat). Could you imagine some subordinate telling a commanding officer to sit down on a real military ship? Four relationship story lines in one episode that really nobody cares about.

    I have defended Discovery since day 1 but Christ almighty this episode had some terrible moments. In the middle of a covert mission they have a discussion about their feelings! Somehow their voices can only be heard when they’re not speaking directly to a disco crew member. Why didn’t they beam the tech as soon as it was in space? Utter dross. I don’t even think the series finale will be a good wrap up. I know they got cancelled but there was reshoots to end the series.

    That view was them manuvering out from the LaGrange point. The angle of the view is what is confusing you. Also, the LaGrange point is not a small point, it is a larger area from which the ship can escape from the extreme graviational forces of both stars.
    The transporter buffer is a well established ST trope to preserve individuals over time. That there would be a more portable version, 800 years in the future, is predictable, in fact I thought of that as a possiblility as soon as La'ak died.

    • @stopgeorge
      @stopgeorge 4 месяца назад +1

      @@Xerxes2005 Hey, I didn't write the show. And yes, "empty" is a good word. This show is empty of a lot of things. It's empty of logic, continuity, chain of command and the respect that goes along with it, original ideas, development of characters -- I could go on and on. What should it be? Watch any of the classic series and you'll find out. Every action means something to the plot, every decision has real consequences and are not forgotten. Everything is "earned" through time, not through exposition. Deep relationships are formed. We actually care about all of the characters -- even the antagonists. Insightful thought experiments are played out and makes you think well after the episode is over. What did we have in this garbage episode? Cool SFX, a derivative undercover operation we've seen countless times before. And completely irrational decision-making to create suspense at the end of the show. This whole season has been a series of filler episodes teaching us nothing about the characters except at how stunted they are personally at growth -- all, with the exception of Raynor, who act like they are in high school.

    • @Xerxes2005
      @Xerxes2005 4 месяца назад +1

      @@stopgeorge Irrelevant. A filler episode is an episode that does not advance the plot of the show. I challenge you to find one episode this season that did not advance its plot, that was not about finding the Progenitors' technology. I agree with you that there could be more character development. The problem is the format of the show, which is serialized with short seasons. Previous shows were episodic. There was no plot, no real continuing arc, except in the last few seasons of DS9 with the Dominion War. So, in a way, all episodes were "filler" episodes. You can have a Picard episode, then a Riker one, then a Worf one and so on. If anything, you should want more filler episodes, because in serialized shows it is often in these that you have more character development. If Discovery's seasons had been longer with 24 episodes, there would have been the opportunity, and the necessity, of filler episodes. But in ten, the plot needs to move on. So you don't have the time to explore the past of all the characters, you don't get to meet their families (except for Burnham which is the main character of the show) or to learn about their hobbies. Still, we get more character development than TOS ever did.

    I have also been one of those defenders of discovery since day one. There have been aspects I love, the modernity, the acting, the character development. So wtf do they introduce these useless characters on the bridge and generic bad guys in the show I couldn't care less about. I want to see the characters I know and love rather than the new background character of the week. After this episode finished I was like wtf, this was awful. So many plot holes. Why didn't they just tractor beam the thing aboard like the breen did. I hate Mal, she is plain boring and I don't want her on screen, and suddenly she is leading a huge warship? And just because people put on masks and use Scifi siri to talk they pass as an alien species? Don't even get me started on not beaming the device aboard once they crashed into the hanger, like what was the point if they didn't do that to beam it out. Literally no point whatsoever. And why do the breen wear masks when on their own ships? Such a lame generic bad guy costume. This episode was simply awful. Each season is so bad, full of plot holes and filler. I couldn't even tell you one crew members name except for Saru and I've been watching this for 5 seasons, and have watched star trek religiously for 30 years and can name all past crew, their personalities, stand out episodes and their family trees. Awful. I'm not against "new trek" I love it. I'm against poor writing and generic end of the universe plot lines.

    The season 5 is the most terrible Star Trek series ever made in the history of star trek. The story is totally non-sense, very weak story line, and people are still keep expressing their feeling with is totally unwanted by a sci-fi film. Feel like the Amazing Race.... They should fire the writer or the director of the film. It is the latest american junk film as of May 2024.

    My prediction: Inside the progenitor portal is Robo-Picard, and Burnham has to fight him and beats him because she is so great. Before she kills him, she goes into a tearful soliloquy about duty and honor, then something something Stamets kisses Culber. Tilly's weight balloons also., and the facial mole that she had in season 1 reappears. The end.
