- MICHIGAN CITY, INDIANA - 08 AUG 2021
It's a gorgeous Sunday afternoon in Michigan City, where we find plenty of passenger and freight on the South Shore Line in just a short period of time. Our first train is a westbound passenger under the wire, followed by Amtrak's 365 rumbling over the South Shore at the 10th Street Interlocking. Then, a westbound South Shore freight makes way for Bailly, and he is shortly upon us at 10th Street. Afterwards, we catch back up to him at Tamarack for the meet with another passenger train, before we catch them one last time rolling by the station at Dune Park.
This is just the first of many South Shore Line videos upcoming - we'll be documenting the railroad's transformation through both the Double Track and West Lake Corridor Projects. Stay tuned!

what abeuatiful brick church
The church has been taken down for the Double Track.
I like train videos on RUclips 👍
It's cool to see some railfanning near my neck of the woods. As much as I'll miss the streetrunning, I'm very excited to see the expansion and improvements coming to the South Shore line.
Another good video . Thanks for explaining the signals and just what they mean , makes watching that much more enjoyable
I like the Freight cool video.
Great video. I love watching trains running down the middle of the street.
Excellent video AC. I look forward watching your videos cover this upgrade.
Cool train video.
Great job as always. Looking forward to the double track videos.
Awesome. Very cool.
Fun fact: south shore freight line is one of the only railroads that still use a caboose
Love how the camera shakes from the seismic waves generated by these monsters. :-)
Short but sweet. I'm in the middle of learning all the regulations and requirements for railway operation (at least in Canada, but I know a lot of the signals are the same) so it's pretty cool to be able to understand what those signals mean just by looking at them, and I understand more of what you're talking about which is really cool. Thanks for the video!
Very cool video of the CSS.
Awesome video Happy Halloween
Thank you for the signal aspect change around 5:00 and the dropped signal at the station towards the end of your interesting video.
a unique train crossing, in Indonesia you can probably count the train crossings like that on your fingers, always be healthy and keep producing videos 😉
Great video! Nice catches👍
It was once questionable that the South Shore would even survive let alone put in a 2nd main track! Great video!
@b3j8: The South Shore Line came very close to extinction like the Chicago Aurora and Elgin and the Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee Electric Railroads. Thankfully the South Shore Line was saved by the NICTD and also a whole new line being built to Munster and Dyer IN, a 9 mile extension over the former abandoned MONON RIGHT-OF-WAY. This new extension will be passenger only trackage.
There was no passenger transit agency to save the CA&E or the North Shore Line back in the 1950s sadly.
@@albertcarello619 Yeah that's too bad. I often wonder had things gone better for the North Shore if it might have eventually flourished.
@@b3j8 I think if the NORTH SHORE LINE survived it would look very much like today's SOUTH SHORE LINE and sound very much the same it's cars. There are abandoned CN&W freight right -of ways that it could utilize today and the North Shore Line could have cars like the South Shore's and not be captive by CTA'S standards and requirements limiting their size. It could maybe have a main downtown terminal somewhere around Streeterville.
@@b3j8 If the North Shore Line survey it would probably look very much like today's SOUTH SHORE LINE and it's cars would sound exactly the same taking on a similar appearance.
@@albertcarello619 They'd def get enough patronage once established.

That freight was most likely a PF series freight, running as needed being that it was on a Sunday.

Nice video
Is the double track going to be eliminating the street running? And if so where are they running the tracks instead?
For half of it, one lane of the street will be eliminated. For the other, the tracks will be relocated to the south side of the street.
My name is Ethan Armitage.
When is the Metra video
Probably between Thanksgiving and Christmas
