    This video is insane, I never knew the CSS existed outside of some smalltown trackage and streetrunning, this has definitely made me add the CSS to my bucket list.

      Had to make a post on my channel about it... hopefully I bring in some new viewers.

      Took me a while to see this for whatever reason... thank you so much, both for watching and the plug! The streetrunning is now gone but the South Shore will (at least to me) always carry a unique charm no other operation will ever match.

    This has to be one the best CSS videos out there!

    SSF roster is all one make/model based on your description. Makes sense as a fleet operator ya know the intricacies and can maintain consistency in knowledge to repair. Bravo South Shore Freight!!

    Superb quality and narration! Probably one of the best CSS videos to date.

      Thank you so much! That means a lot - I still struggle with having any confidence in my narrating so hearing that others didn't mind it makes me feel a lot better. Glad you enjoyed!

    Hi, from the CSS&SB + IHB in the UK. This has been just Fantastic to watch. I recall after you made the IHB video, you mentioned being busy with work. It was good to see Cleveland Cliffs Steel, Michigan Lake Shore RR and Burnham Yard. Thank you for taking the time to film, edit and post this video, I have enjoyed every second of it. Also, for braving the elements. Please keep these videos coming, they are worth every moment.

      Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm so thrilled you got to see this... you were the first one to request the South Shore on my IHB video, so thank YOU for the push to make this! As I stated above, reading comments like these truly make it all the more worth it, and I appreciate that!

      @@trtrproductionsI just have 3 questions Why does the South Shore Freight only have GE38-2 Models, and why do their Horns sound different to the others such as CSX, BNSF, and Union Pacific, and why travel at like 20 miles per hour???

    • @trtrproductions
      @trtrproductions  5 месяцев назад

      @@philipmancera2505 Most of their GP38s were delivered new to them in the early 1980s… so it’s mainly a case of if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The units are, for the most part, equipped with less-common Leslie RS3L air horns, which are becoming quite rare on Class 1s these days. Max speed for freight is 35mph across the entire railroad, but at the time of recording most of the footage in this video, the Double Track project was ongoing with multiple speed restrictions in place.

    You may actually be one of the first people to bother taking pictures of the LMIC since they repainted their units lol

      Thanks Joey, I'm glad you enjoyed it! If only the LMI guys were switching, or literally anything else... I don't know if I've ever passed this spot driving down 12 and they were actually moving lol!

    This is a fantastic video. You have chronicled the modern South Shore in a manner never done before. Thank you for your stellar effort as this is a fascinating railroad that for the most part paid minimal attention. I am a huge South Shore fan that grew up with it in Hegewisch in the 70’s. So much so that I have modeled it loosely in Nscale (I have a few videos if you check my channel if interested). Can’t wait for the next installment!

      Reading this made my day, thank you so much for watching - I'm glad you enjoyed it! And from one N scaler to another, I am EXTREMELY impressed with your modeling skills... some of the neatest models I've ever seen with a great looking layout to boot! Huge kudos to your own efforts!

    Fantastic video, a work of art. I visited Chicago (amongst other places) for a railfanning trip from the UK back in 2022, and this has definitely made me fancy a return trip! Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to seeing your next videos!

    Tr Tr , please do one on the Belt Railway Company of Chicago. Just like the South Shore once was, the Belt Railway often gets overlooked and is a awesome Railroad.

      Tom! Those are brackets that house Positive Train Control equipment, they have been a staple of the CSS roster for about five years now. Lots of rail photographers complain about them, but I like the look myself!

    Do you know when AF8 runs to New Carlisle, IN?

    • @trtrproductions
      @trtrproductions  8 месяцев назад

      New Carlisle work is done by the AF3 crew. Unfortunately outside of knowing the crew assignment I'm not sure which days of the week they go east as the same job also works the Amtrak Michigan Line a few days out of the week. In any case it -should- be midmorning heading out that way, midafternoon coming back. Good luck, sorry I couldn't be more helpful! I am not as familiar with the east end of the railroad as I am the west...
