    Made aprox same mod to the air filter box, have been using BMC air filter cleaned and oiled every 5000km - great product this BMC filter! Quite happy with the mod - intake sound is awesome also my bigger intercooler got more air ;) Running stage2 Eurocode 350Hp

    Thats exactly what those aftermarket intakes are except they have a smoother hose then the plastic oem one

    • @TheEddysGarage
      @TheEddysGarage  3 месяца назад

      This a l lot cheaper and the hose would make little difference on a turbocharged car.

    There is now a k&n filter specifically for the b9 platform that has the locating tabs to hold it in place the number for it is E-0646 I've just put one on my s5 was a simple twist on fit just like oem filter.

      That’s awesome. They should sell lots of them

  • @flyken74
    @flyken74 3 года назад +3

    That’s K&N filter for B8 S4 with 2 nuts. B9 filter is twisted lock. I did same and work just fine. I think I’ll to cut off mine too.

  • @X055_s5
    @X055_s5 2 года назад +2

    Might have to consider this for my S5 B8, Considering aftermarket intakes are mega exspensive! Only thing i might change is run a cold air feed pipe from the holes in the fog light grill cover directly up to the filter. Might be worth honey combe grill to not worry about that pipe...

    Would call this purely sound enhancement, design techniques can’t be looked past for intakes to minimise negative pressure, Likely this mod will lose you power at speed with a hole in the air box, the air pressure created from the inlet at the grille will partially bypass straight back out that cut hole losing all pressure, IF there was an air draw from both in a vacuum like scenario you might get hot air in from the radiator or engine bay negating any benefit. A stage 2-3 tune may tip the scales in favour but a larger or additional inlet receiving forced air would be far better again.

    have you had any issues with it getting the air/fuel ratio confused now that it is taking in more air? probably not so much of a problem in Oz, i wonder how opening up the box will deal with driving through puddles.

    • @TheEddysGarage
      @TheEddysGarage  Месяц назад +1

      There no problems or faults and it has been like this for 3 years now. If course it is more open to the elements but still better than a fully open pod filter intake.

  • @PhatBoyiee
    @PhatBoyiee 11 месяцев назад +1

    good idea but I wonder if by cutting the box you are adding competing air pressures in the box.
    the air coming through the front grill causes internal air pressure directed into the turbo inlet. But by adding the second hole I think that would decrease the pressure and also allow air coming in from the front to exit out the new hole. Have you notice higher temps on long rides? Have you dyno the car to see if you to see if you lose any horse power? normally the point of the intake is to create air pressure to help cool the engine. From my understanding when you upgrade one component you have upgrade other areas to increase air flow. thank you for sharing

    • @TheEddysGarage
      @TheEddysGarage  11 месяцев назад +1

      Haven’t seen any increase in temps. It’s a high boost turbo motor so the pressure you mention won’t be an issue like on a NA engine.

      No we just did it for more induction noise

  • @HumbleBearcat

    Is there a snow screen in the very beginning of the intake behind the grill? If yes, then I am looking to remove that screen to see if it make any difference. How did you remove the hood handle(that part was missing)? I live in Souther Californnia warm weather, no snow, very few rain.

    • @TheEddysGarage
      @TheEddysGarage  Год назад

      I’m pretty sure we just pulled up to remove the handle but it was awhile ago

    • @Bergerac82
      @Bergerac82 Год назад

      No snow screen AFAIK.
      In cold climates the air filter has a foam snow shroud around it.
