I watched that first part with Chris playing 5 times. His feel and style is awesome. So inspiring. Pete is amazing too. God I wish we had RUclips when I started playing
Absolutely brilliant! Two of my favourite ever players acting like a pair of 16 year olds in a guitar shop before the owner gets the hump and asks them if they're planning to actually buy anything.
So it’s me not my THR 10 holding me back. Thanks for the confirmation and the great video:) These attainable gear videos are great for all guitarists, thanks again!
Chris is crazy good. His hybrid picking style is the secret to it all. Yes... he has killer vibrato. Yes... his legato technique is awesome too (all those slippery slides and bends). But, for me, it is his picking that makes it all become something new and different and uniquely Chris Buck.
Proof you don't need mega bucks to sound great! On the small amp front I keep rediscovering my Tech 21 Trademark 10 from time to time. Great demo guys....
Great video idea. Loved seeing you both play the THR-that's been my favorite practice amp. Wish you had a chance to play the thr10 vs the 5. You both sounded amazing on all of the amps, goes to show that a good musician who's practiced a ton, can get a good sound out of any of those. As much fun as it is to chase tone through gear, it's a good reminder to focus on getting to be a better player like the two of you.
Good to see these 2 very good guys Together; Both great 👍🏻 at playing the Guitar 🎸 and both have Great personalities and different Styles…..Rock on Guitar Wizards, Rock On…..And God Bless….. 🙏
Great idea Pete, I gotta admit I've seen the yamaha amp and all it claims to do and never thought it would sound so dynamic(or would react to our playing dynamics so well).
The first time I heard Chris Buck play I thought he was influenced by Derek Trucks since Derek has that vocal style to his guitar playing. I also thought of Robert Randolph. He has that vocal thing too. Although Chris does that vocal thing without a slide.
M absolute favorite episode thus far ! Thanks Pete, love your stuff , love Chris Buck, a true joy to watch, fun topic too ! Also, been listening to your album Pete Thorn 2 and loving it! Thanks.
So cool! This kind of discussion and videos confirms that more than the gear itself is the guitarist himself that makes the good TONE. Tone is in the heart, feel and soul of the guitarist. Chris Buck is such a talent player as well as Pete. Amazing Tones! I wasn't expecting the two of you together. Such a pleasure watching this. Cheers,
Yamaha THR 10 is the best. I used it on the stage with an acoustic guitar and a band with a drum set and bass guitar. It covered all those bands on the stage. Buy it, you won't regret.
I don't know how I haven't seen this before. My two absolute favorite guitarists on RUclips made an impromptu video together. I wish you guys could do a more prolonged sit down with jams and discussion.
I have the Vox VX1. I love it! It even does the Dual Rectifier sound pretty close!! It has a lot of bass for such a small amp. It cost me $100 and it's worth every cent!
@around 7min . Brownstone riff kicks in chris was / is a slash fan and even to this day slash is still an influence to him. I love that and the fact chris , Pete and slash are always humble guys. 🤘🤘🤘
Pete makes Marshall practice amp which most of us would probably describe as "shite" sound like we should run out and buy one. I would seriously NOT be surprised if Pete could rise to the challenge of making a track with that amp and NONE of us would believe it was the little Marshall. And his damn non-locking guitar stays in tune too. Phhh.... :O)
Didn't know about Chris Buck. Great player!!!. Why is it that I feel I need to check out his channel and steal some licks? By the way you guys made those amps sound nice.
I had gotten a mini katana that i use for traveling as a hotel room amp. It works great for that. For its size and weight it gets good tone. Super lightweight and takes up very little room in suitcase/luggage. At home, by contrast i often play through mt tech 21 trademark 30 amp which i've had a long time. Very good tones out of that. Even though i have other amps that can sound decent at lower volumes at home, i tend to plug into that one most.
Another great video. Would love to see a longer video where you and Chris just chat and jam. But my question, I’m on the look out for a small practice amp, any opinions on which one will get me the slash tone and be able to take pedals well? Thanks man. Keep up,the great work.
The Katana for me is the best little amp under $300 I bought the KAT 50 for $180 and get tones that i still cannot believe come out of that under $200 amp!
Those Yamaha THR amps are amazing! Said I would never sell my THR 10X but did and bought a Fender Superchamp X2 instead. I don't regret it but I would take another THR if I could find one used...
A really interesting comparison. Given the prices, all three amps performed creditably, but you can really hear the leap in class between the Katana at $100 and the Yamaha at $200. For once, it appears that you do get what you pay for.
Brilliant piece! I was hoping to hear their thoughts on the Blackstar Fly, but appreciate their honest work on the other gear. For a small, simple "practice in the office" amp you could just plug your pedal board into without frightening the neighbors the little Marshall seems perfect.
Really fun improv demo. Enjoy hanging out with Pete and players like Paul Gilbert on YT. Character always comes through their playing. Btw, check out Tommy Emmanuel who also (like Chris here) encourages players to be inspired by singer song writers and other instruments. There’s one of the key ingredients as to why those guitarists sound so musical.
That guitar lick at around 1:10 reminds me some of the things Derek Trucks was playing back in 2007 or so. He was a big fan of the legendary qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
It's twice the price. As far as value goes, the Katana Mini destroys the THR5. In the $200 range, the Katana 50 obliterates the THR5. Basically, the THR is crap.
I would love to see a mini combo version of Pete's pt15 come out ala Friedman's 1x10 combos. A dual 6v6 combo with the reactive load built in...ideal city gigging amp
Thank you so much for having me Pete! I’ve never had such (quiet!) fun before 😆
Was that your guitar or from the shop? Was in the shop a few weeks ago and couldn't find it
Patrick Sommer It was one of the demo models Yamaha had taken to TGU. I have a 502 with P90s in and my 720b (this model) has a set of PAF clones 🙂
@@ChrisBuckGuitar thanks
Awesome jam! I would be so happy to see a jam of you and Mateus Asato as well!
That's hilarious.
Holy shit. Chris Buck and Pete Thorn in a room together with guitars. Praise the Lord.
2 of my favorite RUclips guitarist glad to see this collaboration!!!
I watched that first part with Chris playing 5 times. His feel and style is awesome. So inspiring. Pete is amazing too. God I wish we had RUclips when I started playing
Michael Wilson, I agree! Now I’m playing catch-up before the arthritis gets bad! Cheers!
Chris is one of these people that can make every crapy little amp sound like a Handwired 1959 Marshall
Absolutely brilliant! Two of my favourite ever players acting like a pair of 16 year olds in a guitar shop before the owner gets the hump and asks them if they're planning to actually buy anything.
Haha! Exactly!
I think it's fair to say it doesn't really matter what these two marvellous guitarists play through it will sound great.
Two great players, and Chris has that classic British self-deprecating reserve......
So it’s me not my THR 10 holding me back. Thanks for the confirmation and the great video:) These attainable gear videos are great for all guitarists, thanks again!
It rarely ever is the gear, but it's so natural to believe it is. I could've saved myself a lot of time and money!
You and me both mate lol
Never in my life imagine these two monster guitar players would be together in a room Full of amps. Grrrrreeaatttttttt .
Two off my favourite guitarist...so humble guys..
Chris is crazy good. His hybrid picking style is the secret to it all. Yes... he has killer vibrato. Yes... his legato technique is awesome too (all those slippery slides and bends). But, for me, it is his picking that makes it all become something new and different and uniquely Chris Buck.
he controls a plectrum like Maradona controlled a football its nuts.
How come Pete's got always the coolest vid ideas in those get togethers? And I am impressed by Chris' smooth playing. Like! Cheers from Germany
"The sounded terrific with Chris playing"
Proof you don't need mega bucks to sound great! On the small amp front I keep rediscovering my Tech 21 Trademark 10 from time to time. Great demo guys....
My goodness - you two are incredible. I love what you do. Keep it up
It’s amazing how the tonal quality has progressed on these small amps in the last 5 to 10 yrs!
Watching C. Buck channel has me REALLY rethinking P90s. The dynamic range is single coil, but has more body that's closer to humbucker.
Chris is a delight- Thank you Pete and Chris. Guitar Gear Professors. Those tiny amps are rowdy---love it.
Great video idea. Loved seeing you both play the THR-that's been my favorite practice amp. Wish you had a chance to play the thr10 vs the 5. Good to see these 2 very good guys Together; Both great 👍🏻 at playing the Guitar 🎸 and both have Great personalities and different Styles…..Rock on Guitar Wizards, Rock On…..And God Bless….. 🙏
Those Yamahas sound great
That Yamaha guitar sounds terrific! Dig those P-90's so much. And the player helps too, of course.
You two guys are a couple of the best on RUclips. I have learned so much from each of you - different yet such complimentary styles. Love it!
Pete ,
Thanks for that. Chris is such a gifted player, and you are such a pro. Just great.
Man, this video was awsome. You are two of my favourite guitarists. That tiny Marshall was superb and the sounds you got from it were out this world.
Great idea Pete, I gotta admit I've seen the yamaha amp and all it claims to do and never thought it would sound so dynamic(or would react to our playing dynamics so well).
There’s a special place in heaven for you both. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you, Universe, for bringing together two of my favourite musicians. I couldn’t click on this video fast enough. 🤘🏻
❤️from🇨🇦
The first time I heard Chris Buck play I thought he was influenced by Derek Trucks since Derek has that vocal style to his guitar playing. I also thought of Robert Randolph. He has that vocal thing too. Although Chris does that vocal thing without a slide.
I love what you do but I also love what Chris buck does I'm glad that you guys met and got to hang out and make a video very fun stuff
M absolute favorite episode thus far ! Thanks Pete, love your stuff , love Chris Buck, a true joy to watch, fun topic too ! Also, been listening to your album Pete Thorn 2 and loving it! Thanks.
So cool!

Chris Buck is such a talent player as well as Pete. Amazing Tones!
I wasn't expecting the two of you together. Such a pleasure watching this.
Cheers,
Great video. Glad to see these two together FINALLY.
Such a great video and just such a natural conversation!
Chris , what a player. That THR sounded amazing
How cool, I recently discovered Chris on RUclips, and seeing this today with the two of you was awesome!
Yamaha THR 10 is the best. I used it on the stage with an acoustic guitar and a band with a drum set and bass guitar. It covered all those bands on the stage. Buy it, you won't regret.
You're right, it's the best, but you don't play it with me on drums 😁😁
Actually cant believe how good those mini heads sound!!!
What a Lucky store to have Pete and Chuck at the same time!!!!!
fun to hear you guys together
It was true "craftsmanship" to see Chris roll that pick/plectrum in his fingers between finger picking & using the pick!!
Two of the best of the new generation RUclips guitar legends - and both apparently great guys. Please play at my birthday party?
I don't know how I haven't seen this before. My two absolute favorite guitarists on RUclips made an impromptu video together. I wish you guys could do a more prolonged sit down with jams and discussion.
Two of my favourite guys in one room, excellent. Thanks
two of my favorite guitarists
I have the Vox VX1. I love it! It even does the Dual Rectifier sound pretty close!! It has a lot of bass for such a small amp. It cost me $100 and it's worth every cent!
love the revstar!!
This is a true „the tone is in the fingers“-video. People always shit on these amps but you two made them sound great (especially the first two).
Nobody ever said the yamaha was shit
Great stuff from a couple of legends. Well done!
Very cool video. Great little amps. Chris does have a smooth style to his playing. Thanks Pete!
And pete damn man you're both killin it !
Excellent little video and that Yamaha amp sounded great. Also I appreciated the discussion at the end.
Hey Pete, when are you next in UK?
Tone city! Thanks so much, very fun video.
@around 7min . Brownstone riff kicks in chris was / is a slash fan and even to this day slash is still an influence to him. I love that and the fact chris , Pete and slash are always humble guys. 🤘🤘🤘

Didn't know about Chris Buck. Great player!!!. Why is it that I feel I need to check out his channel and steal some licks? By the way you guys made those amps sound nice.
Ah, my 2 favorite guitar RUclipsrs on one show.
Chris Buck it's on another level ....
Enjoyed that... thanks guys
yep great...2 of my favourites
That little Marshall's clean channel is fantastic. Add a cheap reverb pedal, and you'll create some great bedroom tones.
I have the Yamaha THR 10 C . It’s amazing !!
I have it since 2013 and its still not surpassed by competition. Amazing amp! Great for traveling too!
I have the THR
The c and the x models. Awesome amps
@@j.rozman7016 The Katana 100 is like 1000000 times better at the same price. So... I'd say the THR has been surpassed.
@@MattyPeq I dont need such loud&big amp on my desktop :D
Both monster players!
I own the THR10-C and love it.
BOSS all day long... I have a Katana 50, and it is a GREAT amp.
Agree.
The Kat with the HB is a killer little combo. :)
Another great video. Would love to see a longer video where you and Chris just chat and jam. But my question, I’m on the look out for a small practice amp, any opinions on which one will get me the slash tone and be able to take pedals well? Thanks man. Keep up,the great work.
OdinStan the Katana is a great option.
Hey big fan of both u guys, been hoping to see u get together, like to hear more . So much jamin so little time . Thx guys .
great video! so many cool practice amps these days. check out the NUX Mighty Lite BT someday. really fun
I use a Katana Mini for my bedroom. Has delay but if it had a proper reverb also built in it would be perfect.
The Katana for me is the best little amp under $300
I bought the KAT 50 for $180 and get tones that i still cannot believe come out of that under $200 amp!
Cheers Pete thorn
Ah man. When I saw the notification for this, I was excited to see these two potentially play the new PT15. Oh well. Still a good video!
Those Yamaha THR amps are amazing! Said I would never sell my THR 10X but did and bought a Fender Superchamp X2 instead. I don't regret it but I would take another THR if I could find one used...
This is brilliant 👍
Yes yes very groovy
If you play loud enough there will always be reverb!
The yamahaha sounds huge!!!
Saludos cordiales desde Oaxaca México! Excelente guitarrista. Gracias
Terrific 🤘🏻
So there’s me watching videos of Mesa mark v and Friedman runt 50, and then you guys on these tiny amps and I realise I should just go and practice.
Ha! Well, there is no substitute for practice, for sure!
🎸❤️
I swear Pete could play through a toaster and make it sound killer!
You could hand Chris a shoebox and he'd make it sing!
Chris Buck is still a gear-addict as for Pete Thorn is much more an advocate for which ever brand supports him.
in terms of tone, nothing beats the Yamaha THR. By far the most realistic sounding and truly 3 dimensional.
At $200? The Boss Katana 50 destroys any THR. Sorry, dude.
Hoaaaah!!! Amazing!!!!
That guitar lick at around 1:10 reminds me some of the things Derek Trucks was playing back in 2007 or so. He was a big fan of the legendary qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
I enjoyed this...but Chris Buck makes everything sound good...as does Pete. This is an observation, not a complaint.
That was great and I'd LOVE to sound as 'garbage' as Chris without reverb 😂
I would love to see these two guys gig together.
Boss Katana sounds the best. The little Marshall is good too.
Pete Thorn uses 9.5, too! I use DR Tite-Fit 9.5-44 on my PRS SEC24 and I love them. It's the perfect gauge, IMO.
Yamaha THR5 is gonna WIN!
THR5A totally awesome and versatile I wish they made a bigger 20/30w version
It's twice the price. As far as value goes, the Katana Mini destroys the THR5.
In the $200 range, the Katana 50 obliterates the THR5.
Basically, the THR is crap.
Wow! Thomann had nearly EVERY single guitar RUclipsr over there in the past couple weeks!!
Cool!
I would love to see a mini combo version of Pete's pt15 come out ala Friedman's 1x10 combos. A dual 6v6 combo with the reactive load built in...ideal city gigging amp
