Man what an eye opener! I never understood this play against a player with long pimples and my return push will be high and easy for them to hit. Now i kind of have an idea how it works! Thanks for the great demo. Will experiment it next time I play against a pimple player.
First time someone explains (and demonstrates) that you can generate backspin from a backspin ball with long pimples. I always thought all you can do with long pimples is increase or reduce the existing incoming spin a bit. That might explain why I got totally bamboozled by a minority of the pimple players I encountered (not to say that I won all the others, but at least I was understanding what was happening). And good tip regarding the increased weakness at the crossover point. Thanks!
Amazing instructional video. I used similar kind of drawing (the one in the paper) to explain the mechanics of the long pimple rubber with comparisons to the inverted rubber's diagram. Super nice video.
I completely agree with the post below. Eli- I would hope that the next video you make will be titled, " Match tactics- How a defender can defeat an attacker". Why is it there is so little training for defenders? Thousands of videos of playing as an attacker, minimal about playing as a defender. With the lack of training available , its amazing defenders do as well as they do. So much so, that you need to make a video on how to play against them! Can you imagine how good defenders would be if they actually had as much training as attacking players do? Where is the video for defenders, Eli?
@@ebatt8803 Thanks, Eli. Defenders are a very underserved portion of the table tennis world. Im not sure why that is. Hou Yingchao won the China National tournament this year, and hes a defender. So, it works.
Thanks for the guided tutorial playing against a defender or chopper! I hope that you’ll air how to play as a chopper or defender using long pips! I’m a defender keen to improve my skills. Thanks, have a wonderful day!
what a great sportsman, she is helping others to beat her..but anyways these things need lot of practice. I m a chopper myself and unless the topspin is really high quality followed by a very small drop, i usually handle the opponents quite well.also another strategy is push push push n suddenly attack.but it also depends on the quality of the chopper. a chopper with a good fh attack is a pain.
Choosing equipment for chopping is more complicated than you probably imagine. But for start, I would recommend you def/all blade with cheap Chinese long pips without or with thin sponge up to 0.8mm (for your BH). FH semi tacky cheap Chinese rubber 1.5-2.0mm sponge.
How do you know when to position yourself further and closer to the table? Obviously, if you opponent rears back to send it to the moon back up, but sometimes it’s too late by then.
I like that you show that even experienced players mess up, on you and your guests. Also, I’m a fan and I do mean this with a little humor, are you a short dude? Or is she tall?
Should have asked her that. I am long pips player, but I never push underspin with pips. It is my opportunity to attack. But, this variation could be useful, just, I don't know how to do it
@@djhumantorch not that thin contact and pretty fast look at her angle it is a bit more open to drag the ball with back spin like normal rubber but a lot faster stroke to be able to create it
@@bgmaster8557 Good tip. I get what you are saying. It is a little hard for me, because, whenever I try, the ball goes up. Not a thin contact, do you mean like, prolonging the contact with the ball, try quick brushing motion

Hey, and what about blocking? This good, old weapon is in the aresanal of any defensive player, especially a top one. So if you serve into her crossover, the most natural return, to my understanding, should be not a push, not a chop, but a block! That's what I would do. That's what I instinctively do if my oponent serves or shoots to my crossover. That's what I could do all day long. That's what Deng Yaping would do... over and over again. Don''t serve to her crossover 🙂
Another excellent demostration, thnx a lot. How nice to see such a smiling face of Alice together with her strong and modern technique
🙏
Thumbs up! Great tips! Amazing stuff! It's all about spinning and speed. You figured it out how to play against defenders. I appreciate that. Cheers!
Thank you 🙏

Beautiful girl with beautiful technic...thank u for showing how I get my headache from playing these choppers

BUT, also keep in mind, the sponge thickness plays a huge part in the type of balls that come back.
I needed this lol I was suffering with a defender player today!

Grippy long pips with sponge can create quite a lot spin on its own (similar like short pips).

Another really great video, very helpful, still struggling against a defensive player with pimples, this will help me, thank you, and thank you Alice!

Also remember most modern defenders are looking for attacking opportunities, not just a random loose high ball.
