Guys I think Sanderson is a classical patron in the making. Like, he just occasionally hires artists because he feel like it. Then lets their imaginations run wild because he thinks it cool and will impress people. We get many more like him and a new renaissance could spontaneously form.
I always think about how, after the incredible success of his four surprise novels Kickstarter, he personally funded all the other writing related Kickstarters that were in place at that moment!
@@talldaveh Let's be technically correct here... he didn't *fund* all of them, but he did contribute to all of them! Pushed some to the edge if they were close and didn't seem like they were going to make it.
Oh my gosh! I did my first stained glass workshop today and I'm in love. I love D&D, bright boho hippie colours and then I see this on YT!? 😍🤩 this Is fan-bloody-tastiC !!! What's the name of your studio? Do you have IG?
I noticed some of the changes for the Elantris work from Jian Guo’s original which I assume Sanderson requested explicitly. I am specifically curious about the orange and yellow emblem next to Hrathen. Is that supposed to be a skaze? A Dakhor symbol? Both? Neither? Given the Aon Shao on the opposite side, is it just the Aon Ela?
These are absolutely gorgeous! After the third window I couldn't help myself anymore and started Googling for stained glass classes near me. I've literally never seen stained glass as vibrant as this.
I was able to take a beginners stained glass class from Holdman studios, and I saw the Way of Kings piece in progress. The instructor just said that it was a project for a local author, but I knew instantly 😂
LOVED seeing these stained glass pieces, and hearing the stories behind them. Suggestion for a future art video: spend the majority of the camera time on the art. _Watching_ two guys talking about an art piece that we as the viewers can't see very well is not as interesting as _listening_ to two guys talking about an art piece that the camera is focused on and panning over.
I also second that! Especially as I haven't read any of his books for financial reasons (the Hobbit and WoT of course years ago and still rereading again and again)!
This is the most me bait video that could exist. The people on the 17th shard know how much I adore stained glass, to the point that my novel centers it as a craft. I've always wanted this tour of Brandon's windows, and they're simply incredible. Also loved hearing about the process. I was nodding my head so hard when James mentioned the antique glass used. Hopefully one day I'll get my own cover by Jian because it would really be perfect.
sanderson is out here living my dream, having a hallway of stained glass just bc you want it is so cool (also how does one just casually say "yeah i have a tunnel lined with stained glass that goes between my house and my underground office"?? that's amazing)
This guy is very professional. No matter what you're asking him he still has hands forward or hands back, he almost looks like a soldier. There is such a passion and he is so good at just waiting until you ask him the questions that you need before saying anything this is so amazingly well done. And the work itself is incredible. It is so cool to be on the inside of this and really see what effort his team put in as well. I guarantee they went through he'll to get this done. And he's talking about it so humble. While consistently making sure he gives the correct amount of credit to the artists that he is depicting the works from. This is art within itself and I love the explanation and how they go through it. I am so glad that I am alive during the time of Brandon Sanderson❤
I have been waiting for this walkthrough…and when you talked about The White Dragon I cried. I had such a similar experience growing up… Ruth and Jaxom forever immortalized. I’m just in love with that piece!
I love that you have a window for The Belgariad! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reread this series and The Mallorean. David Eddings was my introduction to fantasy when I was in junior high. All of the windows are beautiful works of art. Such an incredible body of work!
I am so glad Brandon started with WOT. I found Brandon through Wheel of Time. After completing memory of light I started stormlight archive and slowly got sucked into the fandom.
THE BLUE SWORD!!! This has been one of my favorite books since age 11 or so. Most people have never read it, so I was surprised and delighted to learn it is Emily’s favorite. Yet another reason to love the Sandersons. Harimad Sol!
Wow! These stain glass murals are spellbinding. I could stare at them for hours. So much detail and innovative techniques to achieve their splendor. Warbreaker was my favorite!
These are beautiful! I'm learning to leadlight from my Dad and we both read Sanderson so watching this together was a gift! Glad to see artists in the field are continuing to innovate.
As a Geologist who teaches Mineralogy, and Properties of Minerals and Materials, its fantastic to see how they used Amethyst, Obsidian and other rocks and minerals in the art work.
This video feels like a celebration of art and creativity. I was grinning the whole way through and I love seeing how deeply Brandon appreciate other arts and mediums. Thank you for the gorgeous video!
I was not prepared for how amazing it all looks, and the amount of details. Artists being allowed to show off both their skill and passion really provides results beyond expectation. These are beautiful ❤❤
This was amazing to watch! I can only imagine how beautiful these stained glass windows are in person. Thank you for making this video. This was such a treat.
ugh i wish you could do prints of them all! i love that you picked the white dragon from dragonriders of pern, that's my favorite. always know when you are :) so glad you showed these off, such amazing work!!
As someone slowly ramping up to chase that writing dream, it is absolutely a future aspiration to be able to pay amazing artists to just... create. Take things inspired by the vision in my head and have other people make them real. So cool to see that embodied here.
Thank you for sharing this with us! Your generosity and openess with your fans is just amazing and I hope you know how much we appreciate it, and appreciate you and your talent!
So Sanderson is my favorite author, of all time and I knew that he had read the Dragonriders of Pern and loved that because I devoured these in my teens, and I own them all. But I had no idea that he also loved the Blue Sword and The Belgariad. All three of these books are in my top 10 series, I have loved these books for so long and re-read them regularly. That is crazy, no wonder he is my fave author lol.

I really love art of Jian Guo (for years), stained glass and, of course - FANTASY! 🤗💖 Very good choise of arts to put on this work, but Hobbit is the best imo... Incredible art and craftmanship by Holdman Studios! LOVE it! 🥰
Really enjoyed this tour. Have wanted to see the stained glass collection for years, even had to wait to watch the video until I had the time to focus and really appreciate the artwork.
As a big Belgariad and David Eddings fan (shoutout to my dad for introducing me to his books), I was not expecting to see art of it and Brandon talking about loving them as a teen! I had a very similar experience as a teen 😭
I just started teaching myself stained glass as a hobby earlier this year, so this is so inspiring to see!! I hope one day my work can be even a fraction as epic as this!
It's interesting how on the Elantris piece, the three characters also kinda ended representing a triforce, in however small way. Green for courage, red for power, purple for wisdom.
This is incredibly special and cool! I love hearing about the details processes and story behind how these came about. I wish I could see them in person omg your house is so cool!!!!!!!!
I had never imagined this sort of awesomeness. When I’m a famous author, I want a stairway of stained glass windows of coverart! Or I might put it in my novels. I hope no earthquakes destroy this lovely art!!
Yeah, he did another video on it a few months ago and there's been some articles on it. They bought the plot next door and did a ton of construction to make a bunker, and then covered it back up with driveway so you can't tell that it's there at all. It's also got a huge meeting room with a giant fishtank, and a personal movie theater. RUclips really doesn't like it when you drop links but do a search for brandon-sanderson-built-an-underground-lair-in-suburban-utah and you should get a calnewport article that has some good pics.

now that James Graham has been invited to Brandon's house, we just have to wait for the article talking about how Brandon's a chill guy that likes to hear Hugh Jackman sing
I loved David Eddings. Before I started Wheel of Time in the early 1990s, David Eddings was my favorite fantasy author.
