LOVE the idea that fines INCREASE if you lie to a customs officer + a charge for obstruction! We ought to use this model in the UK! Plus, any vehicle used for smuggling should be seized.
Vehicle seizure has been going on in the UK for awhile, according to the newer border control shows. But I don’t understand why cigarette smugglers aren’t find at all, which appears to be the case. There is apparently prosecution after repeated offenses, but in all of the programs I’ve watched which take place in the UK, I have never seen anyone fined, not even for 10,000 cigarettes! Border agents even went to a home where a woman was selling them from, and they did nothing to her except confiscate the gobs of smokes that she had! But then, I have to admit I had to stop watching the reality show about your wonderful traffic police officers, bc after risking their lives making huge arrests, the sentences were ridiculously short, totally insulting to the incredible problem solving and risk taking efforts shown by the police. And apparently vehicular homicide isn’t a crime there, either. I got so angry that I couldn’t watch the show anymore! Maybe overcrowding in UK prisons is the issue, but I wouldn’t cross the street to arrest anyone if I was a cop there, despite having enormous respect for British police.
The smuggling thing is like hydra. Chop the head of & two more will grow out. Look at brexit & Ryanair. If you can go to the canary islands for 15£ excl the big carry on & hold one way then it can most certainly be a good profitable run.

Both yes and especially no. If you do lower prices then where are the finances for hospital beds coming from? No because if prices are lowered then you cannot regulate the way that works. My own aunt smokes like a chimney and the taxes in denmark have changed nothing...
The increase in the price of cigarettes had a significant impact on the number of smokers in Poland. Cigarettes are mainly smoked by people over 40 years of age. The increase in excise duty on cigarettes and informative health campaign , had a positive effect, the number of smokers among young people is low.

crazy idea: lower the taxes on cigs so theres no longer a larger price difference between the two countries. Then people wouldnt smuggle them.
