Great comparison. Sennelier is not supposed to be all opaque. It is based on an oil painter palette. There are Transparent colors , Transparent / Opaque colors and Opaque colors. The transparent colors are designed to be used as glazes and changing temperature if hues without changing the hue. It takes a bit of time and work to learn to use the system , but so worth it.
That's right. I learned those facts while using it. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge!! 😍🙏🏻👍🏻
I greatly appreciate this video. It’s quite helpful to see the top brands together. People can better determine which brand will work best fur their style and techniques.
I am a beginner in oil pastel & found your comment here. So helpful, thank you for sharing 🥰
Oh my i never though someone really make comparison for professional oil pastel from 6 brands. Seriously thank you very much. U really help us.
My pleasure!! 🥰 so happy to hear that my video can help you!! 💕💓
Thank you so much for this extensive review! The swatches at the end was very useful. Cray-pas looked horrendous in comparison to the other brands! :O
Haha agreed! But not that bad to enjoy it as it is 😉 thank you so much for your kind feedback! 🙏🏻💕🥰
Cra-pas are a student brand not a professional brand. They’re really for children and are an entry level oil pastel for kiddos and are great for that purpose.
Thank you for including many Japanese brands. I could not find many comparisons that include them, so this was useful.
My Pleasure!! Glad to hear that this video is helpful for you! 😊 I appreciate your kind words!!! 🙏🏻💕
my goodness 😱😱😱 this comparison review is so useful! thank you so much 💖💖💖💖
Great!! I am so glad this video is very useful to you! 💕🥰 thank you 🙏🏻
🥰❣️❣️This is the best review I have seen so far. I have watched dozens of reviews and yours is the best❣️ I started with Cray pas expressionist, then Mungyo artist quality extra soft oil, then I got craypas specialist and then sennelier. I love the Mungyo the most but use all for their own quality. Specialist give a beautiful vibrant underpaint. Thank you. Sorry I don't know your language.
Thank you so much for liking my review and sharing your thoughts!! 🙏🏻 Yes, All of oil pastels have their own charms 💓😍🤩🥰
Thank you for this. It has really helped me confirm my decision to go for the Caran d'Ache as my next set of oil pastels. I currently have the Cray-Pas.
My pleasure! I'm so glad to hear that the information in my video helped you!! 🙏🏻❤️ thank you so much for your kind words!!
@@FunGreem You're welcome. 😊
Thank you for the review! Carand'ache is also my favorite brand of oil pastel. But, if the budget for art supplies is low, I'd prefer to buy only Mungyo Galery 72 set
Yes, I totally agree with you!! I’d do the same. 😊Thank you so much for liking this review! 🙏🏻💕😍
Great video-thank you! Your encouraging comments at the end were sweet.
Thank you so much for your kind words!!! 💕💕💕🙏🏻
Thanx this helps a lot
Recently I have ordered Gallery soft oil pastel
Great choice!! 👍🏻❤️ thank you🙏🏻
I like specialists due to how they are nice to blend for my style of slowing building. Some others would probably prefer Holbein or Sennelier for a more opaque and direct approach.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with oil pastels. Indeed, many people prefer firm oil pastels, much like you do-I've often heard this from others. Just as there are various styles of painting, preferences for art materials also vary widely, and I have great respect for that diversity. 💓🙏🏻
Thank you for this really thorough review of the different pastels. I was shocked at how bad the yellow Sennelier looked on the dark paper. In the UK the Pentels I got were very different to yours: much smaller and round.
My pleasure! 💕🙏🏻Yes some of Sennelier oil pastels are not opaque and those translucent ones are great for glazing like adding tint over the base color. The problem is that it is confusing which colors are translucent until I use them 😂
Hi :) apparently there are two different Pentel qualities...
Wow!! This is extremely helpful, oh my goodness!! I can't imagine the cost lmao but it is SO appreciated ♡♡♡ Amazing video -- subscribed!!
Thank you so much for your kind words!! Glad to hear that this video is helpful to you!! 😍💕🙏🏻
Very relaxing video, great job with comparison ❤️
Thank you so much!!! 💕😍🙏🏻
This is a very nice review of a large selection of oil pastels - Thank you! I can see how the uneven opaqueness of the Sennelier might be bothersome, but they list transparency/opaqueness information on their packaging, so it's intentional on their part. Caran d'Ache and Sennelier are my favorites, with Mungyo in third. My opinion is that the Mungyo are the best budget friendly option, as they are a joy to work with and not super expensive. The downside, apart from not being available open stock, is that they don't have lightfast information and that lightfast testing is often what increases the price. I know Caran d'Ache, Sennelier and the Holbein all have that information.
Awww thank you so much for sharing very useful information and your kind words!!! Wonderful!! 🤩💕💓🙏🏻
Loved your video. Very informative and also very calm. Thank you very much! 🙏
Awesome!! So glad to hear that my video is helpful for you. Thank you so much for your kind words!! 🙏🏻💗
Excellent quality, high standard. Great work.
Much appreciated! Glad you like it!! 🩷🙏🏻
Thank you so very much!! You’re an angel!! I’ve been gathering bits and pieces of information and comparisons from many different videos. But, as you stated, none actually compared the top brands side by side. My favorites are Mungyo and Caran d’Ache, but I haven’t even tried Holbein and don’t really care for the Cray Pas for lack of pigmentation comparatively. Your video has been so very helpful to me. I might add Holbein to my (yikes!) growing oil pastel stash… But, a girl’s got to see for herself, right? 💖 Thanks again 🙏
Wonderful! It’s so great to hear that my video was helpful! I also ended up buying what I wanted to buy even after many comparisons. 😆😉 You will love the Holbein because of the various colors and unique shapes. I hope you have fun painting with them!! 🥰🙏🏻💕
Cray Pas has less pigments in them, hence they are hard but they are better used for the first few layers. Also, their square shape is good to draw with. Like the video said, each brand has its use. I have Mungyo Gallery extra soft, Caran d'Ache, Sennelier and Cray-Pas Specialist.I had to buy the Cray-Pas set for underpainting because of their hardness and shape as I was finding it difficult to do that with other brands. Even with soft/dry pastels, artists usually have diff brands based on their hardness for initial layering
Thank you for the review. I mostly use Mungeo soft & Cray Pas Specialist, but will be trying some others in the future. I love the Specialists for plein aire, so more sketching there than painting. I frequently use watercolor paper because I'm first a watercolorist, but am now trying different papers & really like the bristol paper with the mungeo softs.
My Pleasure! I like watercolor papers because they are usually higher quality than other papers. Also like the smoothness of Bristol paper too 😊 Thank you for sharing your experience!! 😍💕🙏🏻
This is a good video comparing professional quality oil pastels. For plein aire work, I like the Cray Pas Specialist as well especially for the under painting. Their large wooden box set of 88 colours has 2 sets that are stacked within the box and in the field, one of the compartments fits into the open cover, which then displays all the colours conveniently at your fingertips. The wooden box set is very sturdy, handy and compact for plein air use. I also like the brand because the sticks are square and so won't roll around, which is important when out in the elements. I also carry some Holbeins with me for the second layer and later at home do touch ups with Senn's if necessary. I have not tried a lot of papers but tend now to stick with canvas paper, since it is sturdy and has sufficient tooth.
Oh Dear if there was a love button I would have hit it! Thank you thank you so much! This review is so helpful. It is a gem for so many artists. So appreciate it. I currently have the Neopastels but see so many use the Mungyo gallery and I am not sure if it is creamier and smoother than Neopastels or if it just hotter temperatures. Some Neopastel coulors of mine are a bit harder or scratchy (black and pinks). I want to get Gallerys but I am in South Africa, to import it costs the same as the product itself, but the 72 has colors lacking in Neopastels. Would you recommend I get it anyway? Can you also advise what to use to get clean lines and crisp details as I am not willing to get Prismacolor pencils. I have the luminance that seems to scrape off rather than lay on a line. I can not afford to keep cutting my Neo pastels to get sharp lines. Maybe the Holbeins can help since they are square? Reviews on Holbeins say the texture is chalky so I wondered if it would work with Neopastels and blend. I prefer photo realism type so if you can advise accordingly what to build up on, I would appreciate it. Thank you so much you amazing talented , smart and wonderful hearted human for helping people be better at their passion. Stay safe and inspired!
I am very happy to hear that you love this review video! Your appreciation and kind feedback are the best rewards for me. It’s definitely useful to have different types of oil pastels that you can use for certain situations. If you are looking for creamier and smoother oil pastels than Neopastels, I’d recommend Sennelier. You can use them on top of Neopastels or any oil pastels without scraping. Square shaped oil pastels like Holbein are great for details! I don’t find them chalky but the texture could be inconsistent depending on colors. For clean lines, I often use a piece of paper to get clean straight lines. I used that technique in the windmill drawing. I hope my answer is helpful! 🥺🥰💕🙏🏻
This was such a helpful video. I've been wondering about the Neopastels lately and this helped me see that it's what I'm looking for in terms of color and texture :) If you ever use Paul Rubens oilpastels I'd love to see a review on them! Thanks for a great video!
Awww so glad to hear that my video is helpful for you! 😍 I have a video of the short review of Paul Rubens Oil pastels (macaron colors). If you haven’t seen it and are interested, you can watch that! Thank you so much for your kind words!!! 🥰💓🙏🏻
@@FunGreem Wonderful! I'll check it out now. Thank you for the reply! :D
This was the video I was looking for. Thank you so much for this amazing comparison. I am still using a set of cheap oil pastels and was looking for a more professional brand, but had trouble to decide. I think I'll try the Neopastels and maybe one or two Sennelier (the white looks really good) as they are easy to find here in Europe and most stores carry them open stock.
I have a question: do you have any experience with colorless blenders? Are they worth it?
I am so glad to hear that my video is useful for you. And great idea for buying Neopastels and white Sennelier!! For colorless blenders, yes I’ve used them before. It’s included inside Sennelier and CrayPas specialist sets. It may be useful if you are using dry oil pastels like CrayPas. For Neopastels, I prefer using a blending stump because they don’t need extra oil and wax to blend. Thank you so much for you kind words!!! 🥰💕🙏🏻
Very useful Video. Totally agree Money is a big consideration, especially art supplies are expensive. 💸💸😫
😊Great!! thank you so much for your kind words!!! 🙏🏻💕
This was very useful, thank you for the video. For me, it is important to find a brand which I can obtain easily (ideally open stock, so I can buy sticks individually if I run out of a particular colour), must be affordable so I dont feel bad about using them (this depends from person to person), should have vivid colours and be easy to work with and blend smoothly. I feel like Mungyo for me sounds like a good one. Although people also compare that to Paul Rubens, so its hard to decide. Have you tried Paul Rubens before?
Yes, I have a video of my first impressions of Paul Rubens oil pastels as well as a small comparison between Mungyo and Paul Rubens. I hope that video is helpful. Thank you so much for your kind comment!! 😍💕🙏🏻
I work with Caran d'Ache before 30 years and I don't want' other ones; il love neopastel, so much
Caran d’Ache products are awesome!! 🤩 Thank you for sharing your experience!! 🙏🏻💕🥰
I was recently thinking of buying professional oil pastels but i was confuse about there quality ,texture and price. I think mungyo will be best for me as a beginner.Your video helped me alot thank you n keep rocking with your amazing art
That’s wonderful! I hope you have fun drawing with new oil pastels!! Thank you so much for your kind words! 🥰👍🏻🙏🏻💕
Hello khan. I have tried four. You will love the Mungyo. But be sure to buy the MUNGYO GALLERY ARTIST QUALITY EXTRA SOFT OIL PASTELS. Mungyo has student and medium grade too. The artist quality are the best. We started with 48s and then bought the 72 set. I love them and my art turns out beautiful. I am practicing portraiture with them and they blend beautiful. I love them. By the way, the artist quality have very good light fastness. Korea has very high and admirable standards.
@@elizabethandiosa4579 hi friend.thank you for guiding me ❤. But the thing is it is very hard to mungyo brand in my locality as there are not many art shops but I'll surely buy one from amazon as soon as my exams are over 😊
I love how mungyo blends More than sennelier
Mungyo is a great product for the price! 👍🏻
Thank you, now I finally know what to buy! 😊
You’re welcome!! 😊💕 thank you 🙏🏻
Cra-Pas are for kids, though even as a kid I didn't like them. :) I just bought a small Mungyo set for a class and was very pleasantly surprised. This was a great review; not too long and yet it contained everything we need to know to make a purchase. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind words!! 🙏🏻😍 Glad to hear that you like the Mungyo oil pastels! 🤩 I also didn’t like kids oil pastels (CrayPas) when I was little 😉
Been waiting fo this😊
That’s great to hear!! Thank you so much!! 🥰🙏🏻💕💖
Really appreciate your time and effort into doing this. It is a well done and detailed video with excellent points!! Thanks soooo much 🙏🏼❣⚘. Between these I only have the Mungyo and I really enjoy them. I have the Pentel regular and find them inconsistent and crumbly. I've ordered the Paul Rubens Macaron color pastels set, hoping I can love them as much! Take care
Thank you so much for your sweet comment! I love Mungyo soft oil pastels too, just hard to get the individual color here where I live 😉. Hope you enjoy the new Paul Rubens Macaron oil pastels too! Love to hear your opinions!! 🥰💕💓🙏🏻
Thank you for this comparison 👍
Sure! Thank you so much for liking it! ☺️🙏🏻
Still deciding my first set of oil pastels (I mainly do watercolor). Do you recommend starting with *at least* a 36-color set? 12 seems limiting...
Personally, I think the more, the better, 😅but I've seen a lot of artists who drew great drawings with limited colors!! I hope you have fun with oil pastels!! 🤩💕
Thank you for this amazing video.
My Pleasure!! Thank you so much for liking this!! 💕🙏🏻
Thank you great review
Thank you so much for your kind words! 💗🙏🏻
Me ayudó mucho tu comparación, thx ❤
My Pleasure!! Thank you so much for your kind words! 💕🙏🏻
very helpful, thank you
Great!! Thank you! 💕🙏🏻
Can you make a review to kuelox oil pastel. Its cheeper but i wonder it's quality though everyone say it good too. Price about 1/3 compare to mungyo in my country but the quality about 8/10.
Sounds like great oil pastels! I will consider to review when I can buy them in US through Amazon or art stores! Thank you so much for sharing information!! 🙏🏻💕😊
Very nice comparison
Thank you so much!! 🙏🏻💕💖
Thank you for help, very intresting.✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
My pleasure!! Thank you so much! 💕🙏🏻
Thank you so much!
You’re welcome! 💓🙏🏻
Thank you 3,000❤
Thank you!! 💕🙏🏻
Thanks for your video. Unfortunately some brands are not easy to find in Europe, such as Mungyo or Cray-Pas. We tend to go for Caran D´Ache which is widely available or Sennelier, Pentel for beginners and Hobelin I have never seen in Europe either- which is a shame.
That's right, the inventory status of art supplies varies from region to region. I also have had difficulty buying certain products because they weren’t sold in the US. However, I think Caran dAche and Sennelier are two of the best 😉 Thank you so much for sharing your experience! 🙏🏻💕
I think it was meant to be Holbein? They look like Holbein and it's a very popular brand in Europe, at least in my country :)
And... What do you think about Schmincke pastels? 🤨
I paint on kraft paper... where the meter didn't even cost me half dollar. 😔🤙
I don’t use the chalk pastels so can’t answer your question but thank you so much for watching my video and sharing your experience with us!! 🙏🏻💓
@@FunGreem
The Schmincke aren't chalks. Is oil pasteles too.
I use the kraft paper beacuse I once worked with it... but with chalks 🤪
I would like to correct you the maximum colours available for Mungyo is 120 not 72
Yes!! Awesome news! I think my video is too old 😅 need to update it someday! Thanks 🙏🏻
