    Great comparison. Sennelier is not supposed to be all opaque. It is based on an oil painter palette. There are Transparent colors , Transparent / Opaque colors and Opaque colors. The transparent colors are designed to be used as glazes and changing temperature if hues without changing the hue. It takes a bit of time and work to learn to use the system , but so worth it.

    🥰❣️❣️This is the best review I have seen so far. I have watched dozens of reviews and yours is the best❣️ I started with Cray pas expressionist, then Mungyo artist quality extra soft oil, then I got craypas specialist and then sennelier. I love the Mungyo the most but use all for their own quality. Specialist give a beautiful vibrant underpaint. Thank you. Sorry I don't know your language.

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with oil pastels. Indeed, many people prefer firm oil pastels, much like you do-I've often heard this from others. Thank you for this really thorough review of the different pastels. I was shocked at how bad the yellow Sennelier looked on the dark paper. In the UK the Pentels I got were very different to yours: much smaller and round.

    This is a very nice review of a large selection of oil pastels - Thank you! I can see how the uneven opaqueness of the Sennelier might be bothersome, but they list transparency/opaqueness information on their packaging, so it's intentional on their part. Caran d'Ache and Sennelier are my favorites, with Mungyo in third. My opinion is that the Mungyo are the best budget friendly option, as they are a joy to work with and not super expensive. The downside, apart from not being available open stock, is that they don't have lightfast information and that lightfast testing is often what increases the price. I know Caran d'Ache, Sennelier and the Holbein all have that information.

    Thank you so very much!! You’re an angel!! I’ve been gathering bits and pieces of information and comparisons from many different videos. But, as you stated, none actually compared the top brands side by side. My favorites are Mungyo and Caran d’Ache, but I haven’t even tried Holbein and don’t really care for the Cray Pas for lack of pigmentation comparatively. Your video has been so very helpful to me. I might add Holbein to my (yikes!) growing oil pastel stash… But, a girl’s got to see for herself, right? 💖 Thanks again 🙏

      Cray Pas has less pigments in them, hence they are hard but they are better used for the first few layers.Also, their square shape is good to draw with. Like the video said, each brand has its use. I have Mungyo Gallery extra soft, Caran d'Ache, Sennelier and Cray-Pas Specialist.I had to buy the Cray-Pas set for underpainting because of their hardness and shape as I was finding it difficult to do that with other brands. Even with soft/dry pastels, artists usually have diff brands based on their hardness for initial layering

    Thank you for the review. I mostly use Mungeo soft & Cray Pas Specialist, but will be trying some others in the future. I love the Specialists for plein aire, so more sketching there than painting. I frequently use watercolor paper because I'm first a watercolorist, but am now trying different papers & really like the bristol paper with the mungeo softs.

      @Leo1903able Год назад +2

      This is a good video comparing professional quality oil pastels. For plein aire work, I like the Cray Pas Specialist as well especially for the under painting. Their large wooden box set of 88 colours has 2 sets that are stacked within the box and in the field, one of the compartments fits into the open cover, which then displays all the colours conveniently at your fingertips. The wooden box set is very sturdy, handy and compact for plein air use. I also like the brand because the sticks are square and so won't roll around, which is important when out in the elements. I also carry some Holbeins with me for the second layer and later at home do touch ups with Senn's if necessary. I have not tried a lot of papers but tend now to stick with canvas paper, since it is sturdy and has sufficient tooth.

    Oh Dear if there was a love button I would have hit it! Thank you thank you so much! This review is so helpful. It is a gem for so many artists. So appreciate it. I currently have the Neopastels but see so many use the Mungyo gallery and I am not sure if it is creamier and smoother than Neopastels or if it just hotter temperatures. Some Neopastel coulors of mine are a bit harder or scratchy (black and pinks). I want to get Gallerys but I am in South Africa, to import it costs the same as the product itself, but the 72 has colors lacking in Neopastels. Would you recommend I get it anyway? Can you also advise what to use to get clean lines and crisp details as I am not willing to get Prismacolor pencils. I have the luminance that seems to scrape off rather than lay on a line. I can not afford to keep cutting my Neo pastels to get sharp lines. Maybe the Holbeins can help since they are square? Reviews on Holbeins say the texture is chalky so I wondered if it would work with Neopastels and blend. I prefer photo realism type so if you can advise accordingly what to build up on, I would appreciate it. Thank you so much you amazing talented , smart and wonderful hearted human for helping people be better at their passion. Stay safe and inspired!

    • @FunGreem

      I am very happy to hear that you love this review video! Your appreciation and kind feedback are the best rewards for me. It’s definitely useful to have different types of oil pastels that you can use for certain situations. If you are looking for creamier and smoother oil pastels than Neopastels, I’d recommend Sennelier. You can use them on top of Neopastels or any oil pastels without scraping. Square shaped oil pastels like Holbein are great for details! I don’t find them chalky but the texture could be inconsistent depending on colors. For clean lines, I often use a piece of paper to get clean straight lines. I used that technique in the windmill drawing. I hope my answer is helpful! 🥺🥰💕🙏🏻

    This was the video I was looking for. Thank you so much for this amazing comparison. I am still using a set of cheap oil pastels and was looking for a more professional brand, but had trouble to decide. I think I'll try the Neopastels and maybe one or two Sennelier (the white looks really good) as they are easy to find here in Europe and most stores carry them open stock.
    I have a question: do you have any experience with colorless blenders? Are they worth it?

    • @FunGreem
      @FunGreem  2 года назад +7

      I am so glad to hear that my video is useful for you. And great idea for buying Neopastels and white Sennelier!! For colorless blenders, yes I’ve used them before. It’s included inside Sennelier and CrayPas specialist sets. It may be useful if you are using dry oil pastels like CrayPas. For Neopastels, I prefer using a blending stump because they don’t need extra oil and wax to blend. Thank you so much for you kind words!!! 🥰💕🙏🏻

    This was very useful, thank you for the video. For me, it is important to find a brand which I can obtain easily (ideally open stock, so I can buy sticks individually if I run out of a particular colour), must be affordable so I dont feel bad about using them (this depends from person to person), should have vivid colours and be easy to work with and blend smoothly. I feel like Mungyo for me sounds like a good one. Although people also compare that to Paul Rubens, so its hard to decide. Have you tried Paul Rubens before?
