    I feel many of us had settled on Tapwrit to win this thing. He got the perfect trip too. I thought Irish War Cry would fade more than he did (third or fourth), but he nearly held it together.

    Awesome race! I bet Tapwrit to win, which he did by a stunning and exhilarating way (I ride horses over jumps by the way). The end I noticed both Tapwrit and Patch were just one horse behind one another. Both of them stuck together until Tapwrit made his run for glory and Patch went swerving out to the rail. The jockey who rode Patch I admire, it's not easy to steer a horse with one eye to a 3rd place finish. Both Tapwrit and Patch ran after each other, it was like Patch new his friend was ahead of him and he just wanted to be with him. That's why I loved that race so much.

    Good job, Patch! For having sight on one side only, he was coming on at the end, which makes me think he will only get better as he matures physically and mentally in races. I liked IWC, but glad to see Tapwrit get it since he was so mangled up in the start of the KY Derby. Also nice to see the great filly Songbird do her thing in the Ogden Phipps. Hope they keep both of these horses around instead of retiring them right away for breeding. Too much breeding; too many unwanted horses.

      Maynard Runkle No question. That is greed. Everyone always praises Pletcher. The shills on NBC appeal to the casual fan. Everyone is wonderful. Nonsense! The last several years? Todd Pletcher has lost countless horses 3yo & up due to injury. I am afraid Patch will get someone seriously hurt! Not the horses fault, the greed of the human connections! Is there any shame?

      John Kaufmann Patch actually has excellent breeding for distance. His Dad won the Belmont a few years ago, plus he had one of the best jockeys in NY & the world riding him. I'm very happy for Patch & his crew. Patch drew the farthest gate to the right, and his he has no left eye and came in 3rd. Pretty amazing to me.

      Cheryl When u watch the replay? He was wide throughout. I don't think at any point he saw any of the horses. All things considering, makes me wonder if things would have been different if he had drawn inside. It was another God awful post for the horse like the derby the extreme outside

      All three legs were disappointments. No challengers...all three races were decided within the first few furlongs with few changes or any interest from the pack. The Kentucky Derby especially. Handicapping has become nearly irrelevant in determining the outcome.

      I used to love Belmont Day back in the 1980s when there was no live Triple Crown shot. Belmont would always be less crowded. 1981, with Pleasant Colony, was raining and miserable, with 61,105, though the night before I trned $2.00 into $310.00 on a harness double offered only through OTB.

    • @2138red

      same here I just wrote that it was a disappointing crop of show ponies. They all seemed to really crap out at the end especially this race. look how far back the rest of the pack was. Even though this race looked like it was going to be war cry when tapwrit came to battle him for the win it wasn't exciting just like eh ok.

    Tapwrit had the usual top pedigree, along with the others. Except he had one the others didn't have: Hawkster, who ran a mile and a half, on grass, in world record time. This on his dam's side. Hawkster was much faster, ran fast fractions, went straight to the lead and stayed there, stayed way in front, the other horses thought he would tire, and then they would come on, but he never did. A sterling performance.
    Did this help Tapwrit?

      Irish Way Cry didn’r even break stride, so he didn’t slow down. What you seen was generic race riding. Jose Ortiz took Tapwrit over to IWC and to the line but did not cross the line. He did that to make his horse fight and let his horse know the race wasn’t done yet by showing him the other horse

    this year belmont was set up for whoever was going to the front. more money was being placed on long shots this year then ever before. the pros were even pushing people to go for the long shots and then the day comes. they water the heck out of the ground. you can see in the race anyone trailing is getting stuck with dirt. sunny day in Belmont . no reason for dirt to be getting stuck on them like glue. and the first qtr "as said was fast" yet front runner/favorites hung on.
    although I had the expensive horse that looked good from all angles but the pedigree. hmm mm guess money wins again. #crooked

      CAIN CAIN Dortmund was undefeated coming up to the Kentucky Derby, and Frosted was a fantastic horse, he won the Met Mile last year by at least 10 lengths. There were not just allowance horses in the 2015 derby, though I have to admit that there were a few that should have stuck with allowance company.

      Allowance horses? The older male division was terrible that year but Dortmund and Firing Line were beasts coming into the TC races killing each other in preps. Watch the Derby again too with those 3 horses. Frosted never really fully developed until after the TC races. If you want to say Frosted ran like an allowance horse outside of NY you can.

    • @montanamountaingarden476
      @montanamountaingarden476 3 года назад

      Allowance horses? The second place finisher in the Belmont is a horse by the name of Frosted, who came back the next year to blitz the Met Mile field and win both the Whitney and the Woodward. The third place finisher in the Belmont beat AP in the Travers. Dortmund was undefeated going into the Preakness. Those are not allowance horses
