The front fender is so cool on the XT with the slots, I always liked that.
My shop was the Denton Motorcycle Center in Denton, Texas. But I also worked at Action Imports in Denton (Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, OSSA).

I’m not certain about the Katana year models. I know I prepared a Katana 1000 for 1982 Daytona, and in 83, a GS750ESD.
Those prices are outrageously high.
Yeah, but the seller 'no saled' them, which means he was an unwilling seller at those prices.

The Z1R was Kawasaki's life support attempt for an out of date bike.

The Kawasaki Z1R was the motorcycles that Ponch and John rode on CHiPs.
No. Those were KZ1000P models. Specific for the police even with run-flat tires.
. I ran my semi/trailer rig through the Fort Wayne Truck Auction ( a Copart today) twenty years ago and they charged $2k seller and $2k buyer fee on each unit ..!
These bikes have been Mecumized! I'd never buy one! 😂

The first Katana was an 81 with 1100cc. The 82 was a 1000cc, this all done for the AMA superbike class.
There is a lot of internet lore about them too.
Loved them all Dave except for the hand grenade Katana, sure it looked great but why spend all that money when the same can be spent to keep them correct!!!
Your katana is nicer than that one,those auction prices are nuts.You would do better on market place.

@noelwarner1235, oh ya the auction prices, "nuts is right". On top of the cost of getting there, resignation, bidders fee etc. And I've been reading how pre-owned bike prices of late have somewhat soften.

Hi, Young Dave. 1. Kawasaki air cooled bottom ends are tough and will take boost (not stupid) with ease. 2. Katana's are worth $$ but spoked wheel models are top money, mag wheels, not so much. Don't do anything silly with your money, again.

I wouldn't do well at auctions and I have some minor experience to prove it.

The Z1R has a stronger crank , bigger valves , back cut transmission are a few differences to the KZ I think .
Those Z1R get credited as the first Japanese MC to come with a cafe style fairing on them. Insert grain of salt here... The TC ones were not factory. A dealership put turbos with the stripes on 500 of them one year and 500 on the solid color ones the next year so they are really rare. be careful if you ever try to get one because their are more on the road now than when they were made.
I paid $3200 in 1978 at Woodbridge Motorcycle Mall, in New Jersey for the silver blue 78 Z1R, in my area we were 14 of the same Z1R,s , and one day we were riding and stop at Roselle Park, i saw one of the guys trying his key on all the bikes and never really care what he was doing…well…his bike key fit on mine, and a day later was stolen in front of my eyes and never saw it again…the guys that stole from me, die a few years later…newark cops told me to collect from insurance and thats it 😳😳😳even that i knew where the bike was at time and mention to the cops, who stole it…still have the key, registration and ins. card🥴🥴🥴in 2013 had a chance to buy one from a close friend, in excellent condition for 5k, but i moved out state and forgot to call him for a month and his mechanic got it…what a bummer… its my favorite bike so far…was a great bike back than and no other bike could handle the Z1R…they really went nuts with value this days…enjoy your ride🤟🏼🇺🇸🤟🏼

Watched your vid on the Kawi Rickman. It made me mad. You got screwed big time. Whoever the clown was that attested to he “started it a couple years ago” should be held accountable. Yes it was fraud. Kawasaki Rookman.

Those Z-1’s are over rated. I worked on all of them, including a turbo.
They're great bikes but super heavy and out of date by the late 70's.
The Z1000J is my favourite.
