The original AC vents on the Porsche had wires that connected to a sensor in each vent. Did you re-use those from the original vents? I don't see any way to connect them. You can see the detached wire on the left side @ 14:03 and the wire on the right vent @ 15:04.
They are not used. These wires provide power to LED components of the vents… so they light up a bit at night. But this unit doesn’t have any LED lights on the vents.
Thank you for the video, I’m leaning towards a similar modification for my RHD 2015 Macan, a couple of questions if I may. As this video is a few months old has this unit been replaced with anything better? If not are you still happy with it? It looks to me that the hardest part of the install is Removing the original trim without breaking it Removing the original ductwork behind the unit Finally installing the whole lot back into place and getting the ductwork installed I know if I was doing this job and had my mic on there would have been plenty of editing afterwards. Great job once again
There are other similar models out there, but same functionality for the most part. I’m very happy with the unit. You are correct on installation difficulties.
@Santirx - This has helped me a ton with my install. Question for you: I saw where you did a work-around with the Mr12Volt radio to allow the factory microphone to work. What did you do with this headunit?
Nothing. This unit has its own microphone, which acts as the factory mic. You’ll see a small opening on the front panel, that’s the mic. Thanks for sharing your experience! And for your support!
The part where you were disconnecting the stock air vents, there’s no audio… were you walking us through the steps? Where are the clips or whatever that hold the stock air vents in place?
There are 6 clips that hold the vents in place. Two on top (towards the side) and two on either side of the duct. Then, the ducts will start to swivel from the bottom. I kept swiveling up and down until it came out.
Hello Santrix! If I am not mistaking you swapped the knobs between the previous unit and that one. Was it easy to remove the knobs? Do you just pull it? Would it be possible to use the original ones from PCM? Great DIY as always.
I have to think so. MOST25 is a universal communication protocol over fiber optic. As a matter of fact, the MOST box I got from Amazon that produced very good quality was spec’d for Mercedes Benz, but it is a MOST25 box and works in the Macan. Both Bose and Burmester use MOST25 comm protocol. Just make sure you ask vendor.
Yes, it looks more OEM. Audio quality is digital quality with second converter box. They came up with an upgraded unit now that has Toslink optical output direct from unit.
@@CQ84GYT Is the same link in the description of the video. You just need to IM the vendor through AliExpress to make sure the one you buy has fiber optical output.
@@markstephenson6952 If you are keeping the Bose amplifier, you still need the box as you need to convert signal to MOST. If you have an aftermarket amplifier that accepts SPDIF input, then you can connect directly.
Well - following your video it only took me about 45 minutes to get everything connected. WOW. I have plugged the screen in and started my car. The screen lights up. I have AM radio with very good reception, the GPS is working and the native Nav shows where I am, and I can control volume from my steering wheel. So - I think is it connected properly. BUT - my touchscreen does not work so I can't do anything. Is there a switch to activate that or should that be automatically enabled (I'm assuming yes).
Thank you for sharing this! Which unit would you recommend I buy for my 2011 Porsche Cayenne? And what should I take into consideration when buying it? Specially the sound quality? As I have Bose system. Thank you again

@@porscheDIY Thanks a lot for your help, I have purchased and installed the head unit and the fiber optic decoder you recommended, but now I have an issue with the sound the fader is not working! All speakers work together without any surrounding sound and you feel all sound coming from the front speakers, but when I try to move the sound to the back speakers no sound works only the subwoofer! Is this normal with aftermarket head units or there something I need to do to enable the fader? I spoke to the seller on AliExpress and they told me the issue is front the fiber optic decoder! I appreciate if you could help out with this.
Hi Santtirx.. i follow your head unit installs for advice ... thanks... but after reading all the negative reviews posted here about DAINAV which unit would you recommend now?
These type of units in AliExpress are all notorious for suboptimal after sales support. Therefore I can’t really recommend any. Just make sure they send you actual photos of the unit they will be sending you so that you are sure is the right one you want.

Great job on your installation... I do have one question and I'm not sure if it has been ask before... where did you find the wrap and what it the name of the color/manufacture of the it? Thanks
I bought one of these with buttons (not installed yet). Now, I want to exchange to this updated version for better ventilation. I think you were certain that the update with no buttons was a better unit. A couple of questions: 1 - it seems the factory vents are left uncovered behind the radio. Did you cover them or fill them with foam? 2 - to save space, why not cut off the big unconnected audio plugs? 3 - There is a connector with an antenna. Did you use that or connect the Porsche antenna?
No need to fill with foam as air is completely redirected to new vents. You need to detach OEM ducts from main supply duct and secure them with a tie wrap. Then install the new ductwork in the supply duct. I didn’t want to cut any wires as it is my intention to take everything back to OEM stock if I ever sell the car or trade it. For the antenna, you need to use the wire adapter, from normal antenna connector to fakra. This is provided in the kit.
@@porscheDIY Thanks. But the wires I might cut are on the back of the new radio (not part of the Porsche wiring). It would make it much easier to stuff them behind the screen. If I ever sell my car, the poor new owner will just have to put up with the impressive upgrade :)

You will need to tell them if you have a Base system or Bose or Burmester. On SiriusXM, unfortunately this unit doesn’t support that natively. The alternative is to download the app in CarPlay or Android Auto, and use it from within that environment.
There is a RCA connector that comes out of the quad connector harness adapter, that then you connect to the unit through another RCA connector harness that then connects to the rear of the unit.
This is all due to the MOST converter box. It is not good. Please refer to the description on my video. I recommend other converter boxes that are much better.
Hey Santirx, hope you don't mind me asking a couple of questions. I am digging this new unit a lot, but the fact that it does not have native MOST25 output is kind of a dealbreaker at the moment for me. I have seen that you mention that they released a version with TOSLINK. My question for you is: would you know how to convert the digital TOSLINK signal to MOST25? I have tried to find adaptors, but they all seem to convert the signal in the opposite direction (i.e Coax/TOSLINK to MOST25). The only alternative that I can imagine is ditching the original amp and use an aftermarket one that supports digital input... but if I could avoid that, all the better. Also, how is the analog-to-digital signal quality of this particular unit in your opinion? Perhaps I am needlessly obsessing with keeping a full digital path to the amplifier, if the DAC used by the unit is half decent. Looking forward to hearing from you, and many thanks in advance!
I was as obsessed as you, believe me. The only box I was able to find that converts Toslink to MOST25 comes from Plejbona. When I got the Plejbona unit, I made sure that the converter box was Toslink to MOST25. Even though the image in Amazon appears to be exactly the same as others, they will send you the Toslink to MOST25 if you talk to them. Let me see if I can post a photo somewhere…. But the link is: Fiber Optic Box for Benz BMW Porsche Audi Volvo Android Radio Car Video Player GPS Navigation a.co/d/1RWMan5 I have to say however that the other analog to MOST25 box I got from Amazon did probably a better job than the PLEJBONA unit box. Link: DNL Teclink Optical Fiber Decoder... www.amazon.com/dp/B094Y8J6DT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share There are some cheap converters (like the one supplied with this unit) that are not going to work well. I already told this to the vendor. But there are other analog to digital converters that really do a good job.
Did you consider adding a box that allows the original head unit to work with all CarPlay functions on the same screen? or did you want a 12.3" scren? Thanks

Thank you for the video, I’m leaning towards a similar modification for my RHD 2015 Macan, a couple of questions if I may.
As this video is a few months old has this unit been replaced with anything better?
If not are you still happy with it?
It looks to me that the hardest part of the install is
Removing the original trim without breaking it
Removing the original ductwork behind the unit
Finally installing the whole lot back into place and getting the ductwork installed
I know if I was doing this job and had my mic on there would have been plenty of editing afterwards.
No, I didn’t swap the knobs. I got new knobs from eBay for PCM 5 or 6, modified them a bit and then install them in the unit.
Great DIY video!
Is Bermerster using the same Optical Fiber Box as Bose?
I have to think so. MOST25 is a universal communication protocol over fiber optic. As a matter of fact, the MOST box I got from Amazon that produced very good quality was spec’d for Mercedes Benz, but it is a MOST25 box and works in the Macan. Both Bose and Burmester use MOST25 comm protocol.
Just make sure you ask vendor.
i love this, been looking for this for ages. does the vents in the center loose function ?
The vents are re-routed. They are functional.
Hello,so was the second unit better ? It certainly looks more OEM !!!
Yes, it looks more OEM. Audio quality is digital quality with second converter box. They came up with an upgraded unit now that has Toslink optical output direct from unit.
@@porscheDIYI really like this unit in the video as it looks much cleaner behind the screen, do you have a link for the upgraded unit with toslink?
@@CQ84GYT Is the same link in the description of the video. You just need to IM the vendor through AliExpress to make sure the one you buy has fiber optical output.
@@porscheDIY Are you saying that you no longer need the upgrade to the DNL Teclink Optical Fiber Decoder Box on Amazon?
@@markstephenson6952 If you are keeping the Bose amplifier, you still need the box as you need to convert signal to MOST. If you have an aftermarket amplifier that accepts SPDIF input, then you can connect directly.

Thanks! And thanks for the support!

This one is an FYT 7862 unit, like mine.
You would need to buy the fiber decoder separately. Like the Amazon one I recommend. This is good because they would normally provide one that is very bad, so you don’t have to pay for that.
@@AbdullahAlDokhiiL that’s normal with these aftermarket units.
If you want it, you just have to take the plunge with whatever company sells it. Just make sure they send you actual photos of the unit they will be sending you so that you are sure is the right one you want.
Great install! thanks for the video. Is there a big difference with performance with the 64gb and 128gb? Which one did you recommend?

@@markstephenson6952 I see. I don’t see any issues cutting non-usable wires provided with the unit.

Just confirm with DaiNav that it will fit your Panamera. You will need to tell them if you have a Base system or Bose or Burmester.
On SiriusXM, unfortunately this unit doesn’t support that natively. The alternative is to download the app in CarPlay or Android Auto, and use it from within that environment.
Hello, congratulation on your installation. Can i ask you how to connect the radio to original back camera? Thank you
There is a RCA connector that comes out of the quad connector harness adapter, that then you connect to the unit through another RCA connector harness that then connects to the rear of the unit.
Hello
Very nice video
Is possible help me ??
I installing 12.3 but sound is not very high and nice
Have solutions for me ..
But the link is: Fiber Optic Box for Benz BMW Porsche Audi Volvo Android Radio Car Video Player GPS Navigation a.co/d/1RWMan5
I have to say however that the other analog to MOST25 box I got from Amazon did probably a better job than the PLEJBONA unit box. Link: DNL Teclink Optical Fiber Decoder... www.amazon.com/dp/B094Y8J6DT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
There are some cheap converters (like the one supplied with this unit) that are not going to work well. I already told this to the vendor.
But there are other analog to digital converters that really do a good job.
Did you consider adding a box that allows the original head unit to work with all CarPlay functions on the same screen? or did you want a 12.3" scren? Thanks
Please watch other videos in the subject on my channel. Yes, I did. I started with Joye, moved to Isudar, then Mr12Volt (all adding CarPlay capability to the PCM3.1). @@porscheDIY Thank you @Santrix. I have ordered my 12.3 unit, can I upgrade compatability of Carplay to PCM 5 or 6?
Hi,
I have a few questions.
1. Like speakerphone sound quality
2. Is the FM radio working properly?
3. Is there a problem with the traffic sign camera?
I am asking because I myself have option 1 (the older one) and I have problems with it as I wrote above
I’m not sure I completely understand your questions but I’ll attempt to answer what I understand.
(1) assuming this is the phone calls and the quality of calls/voice. For me, this was the same for both units. But, call quality is always good. It was good for me before with prior unit, and is good now.
(2) Yes, working fine. Good antenna connection is important.
(3) I don’t have a traffic sign camera in my Macan so I can’t comment on that.
Hope this helps.

Should i return the unit and buy the one with this vent setup? Thank you in advance.
Can you post a link with the unit photo?

Hello Santrix. If I am not mistaking you swapped the knobs between the previous unit and that one. Was it easy to remove the knobs? Do you just pull them? Would it be possible to use the original ones from PCM? Great DIY as always!
I believe I answer your first question earlier, but I got new knobs from eBay that I have to modify slightly by drilling carefully to open up the stem, and then install them in the unit. The unit knobs come out very easily, you pull them. And you would not be able to use original ones without modifying them, so I recommend buying a set and modifying them rather than using existing.
