The game's twist ending really hits you like a punch in the gut, especially since most people get the normal ending on their first playthrough and don't realize they've been duped and that they were actually Ellen the whole time until they play through the game a second time to get the true ending.

*SPOILERS BELOW* Note that there is another secret ending showing us something : to obtain the secret-secret-secret ending (this ending has no name, in fact), just...don't move. Wait at the first screen without doing any step, for 1 hour in real life. And then, you will see the roses have gone, because the magic inside Ellen's body couldn't stand that long : even at the beginning of the game, she's dying. Viola never stood a chance : she was already dying, and the Black Cat wouldn't have let our protagonist die. The point of this tricky ending is there : there's no good ending, Viola lost even before you started. No matter what you do, it will end badly for Viola in Ellen's body. Ellen wins, Ellen always wins. A real messed up cruel story.

After the ending (in the game or the manga, I forgot, you can double-check on the wikia), the cat-demon talks alone and basically says he's sure of something : Ellen won't have a happy life. One day, she will go back to the demon and beg for another chance to have happinesse But when this day will come, the demon will have lost his interest for a very long time. So to say it again, but shortly : karma will slap her in the face.
there is a secret when you play the game and avoid talking to the cat, that means you have to play ignoring the cat and surviving as best as you can and if you die you have to start everything from the very beggining, i beated the game without talking to the cat 2 times and maybe i can do it again
I have just completed the game, and I believe that there was a hint for the ending: while we get through the maze at 41:32 , there is a scene that the light goes off, and if we press X (to open our bag), Viola's face turns into a devil (very creepy tbh)
I was a HUGE fan of all the horror RPG games from like...what, 2013? 2014? I can't remember. I do remember enjoying The Witch's House over all the other ones though (Ib, Mad Father, Misao, etc.). I'm so happy this game got a revamped art style and slightly tweaked puzzles/modes. Thanks for showing us!!

I just realized, in the secret ending whenever the cat walks up to Ellen (Violas) Body. He is taking her soul isn’t he? Because that was the bargain? Ellen gets her magic from the demon, and the demon gets the soul from Viola? That is so fucked up

Collectiong Viola's soul and Ellen gets what she always wanted a healthy body and a loving father, shame there isn't any extra stuff to show what happens after. I feel that Ellen would begin to feel empty when she sees that the love she was going for isn't really hers. Shame the creator never did that and hasn't done a game where the Cat brings Viola back and puts her on the path of revenge.
I like to think during the true ending that the cat somehow brought Viola back to life with her newfound witch powers, and she regained full strength to go after the witch in revenge.
The game has a special ending, you only need to wait for 1 hour, and "Viola" will leave on her own. In fact, it's about enduring the real Viola in the house to death.

I’m really late but when I was playing this game this video really helped on what to do but at the end of the game when Viola has to run away from Ellen that part was extremely scary and hard tbh

Tbh, after watching the teddy bear chase I need someone to slap me dead@$s across the face and to yell at me “YOU DID NOTHING WRONG TO THE BEAR IT DOES NOT EXIST YOU HAVE NO REASON TO FEAR IT!!” Bc I’m scared that an oversized bear is hiding in my room and is waiting to grab me/kill me. To all of the people who are also scared, cheers!!! 🥤
I really enjoyed the puzzles and exploring the house. the story is explained in the last minutes....and well, if I was a sick witch without moral objections I could imagine.... . . . . .. .. .... stealing someone elses body to be able to live on too;-)

Ellen may have been the one who did all the bad stuff here, but in the end the bigger villain in all this is the demon cat.
