Hiya from the UK 🇬🇧 👋 Raye is now an independent artist since she broke away from her old record label who did not treat her well at all. Since she got free from them, she has thrived! She had problems with drug addiction from everything she experienced and is now clean. She openly speaks about having experienced sexual assault & r*pe (ice cream man) and body dysmorphia. Raye is British Ghanian Swisse - she grew up in South London (she's from the same place as British rapper Stormzy). She grew up singing gospel in church with her family, so a lot of her influences are from her heritage. She loves gospel, soul and jazz music. When she was signed to the record label, they only allowed her to release EDM dance music (it's what is the most popular type of music commercially in the UK). She's a phenomenal artist, musician, and songwriter. She also co-directs all her music videos & has mad production skills and does sound engineering too. She loves what she does, and it shows. She started songwriting professionally when she was aged 14 and still in school. She's very successful and has written for many many big names, and that was her main income source for years and also what her record label profited off for years as she made them so much money from her pen skills. She is very talented and can sing anything - operatic, soul, jazz, pop, gospel, country, blues, spoken poetry, r&b etc. She is also a very good rapper as you noticed 😊 She broke records in the UK at the BRIT awards (our version of the Grammys) by winning the most BRIT awards in one night (6 awards) and she is the first female in history to ever win songwriter of the year at the BRITs. Her acceptance speech with her grandmother was a beautiful moment. Watch her video on "Genesis" and you'll see what I mean about her as one of those artists who are about their ART like Kendrick 😊 She's also incredible live and never performs the same song in the same way twice. If you haven't, then you need to watch her performance of "Oscar Winning Tears" at The Royal Albert Hall (our most prestigious venue in the UK) where she was accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. It's an incredible performance by her. X
Love Raye keep checking her out Genesis should be next. Mahalia is also dope saw her live twice you should listen to what you did and too Nice. Pronounced Ma-hey-lee-ah
Some info on Raye is she’s from London whit a Nigerian Swedish decent and has been in the music industry for years writing songs for Beyoncé and may others but her label wouldn’t let her realise her solo music and she finally able to get out of it and is now an independent artist !
