Andy youve been my inspiration I've saved £600 and helped me lose 3 stone in weight in the last 4 months committing to work on my ebike that you inspired me to buy..my quality of life is now so much healthier..
All thanks to you....keep up the video and inspire everyone to go electric..its the future.
What ebike did you have and how is the bike going for you now any problems?
The only way to respond to this Andy is to build an even faster bike ;)
Or build e bikes for the police!
I just bought an illegal e bike but I’m not gonna be ragging it about town I just wanna get to my mums and that lol. I’ll go fast off road with nobody around though
Some idiot on an e bike went straight into me yesterday. Had his sunglasses visor on coming down a hill into a tunnel and just went straight into me. I’m fucking fuming
You are doing a fantastic job, it's people like you that will change the world, you're absolutely right this country is very behind compared to USA with the electric bike law. Why don't you do a petition and I will sign it and put it on RUclips link.
@@jayden_2954 UK have very old fashioned law they need to update it like USA.
Don’t let the bastards grind you down , you’re an inspiration, and it’s great to see someone like you showing us the way forward.

Absolutely here here couldn't have put it better myself
You will be surprised that there wasn't any complain to begin with, if you make a foia request. The culprits as always are revenue collectors finger pointing neighbors or someoneone else. You will find recent videos of traffic citations on scooters drivers but years back I got a citation for riding on a sidewalk when nothing was illegal about it.

That's utterly pathetic that someone has such a sad, pointless life that they need to file police reports on RUclips videos.
What a worthless waste of human skin.

So petty calling the police, some people need to get a life.
Remember!! **IT IS NEVER A FRIENDLY CHAT** when the police are concerned!!
As a biker of 30 years, thats simply not my experience. I've ridden like a fucking maniac my entire life and the police have, in general, been pretty reasonable when I got caught. It helped that I didnt lie or try to weasel out of the situation of course.
Rule one. Never talk to police.

I bought myself a 750watt ebike this week thinking I'd be fine to ride it legally in the UK. I returned it once I realised I couldn't. I bought it from Engwe direct and their website doesn't say they are illegal in the UK despite them having a UK warehouse. Many RUclipsrs stick 250watt stickers on them to get away with it and I've seen a few telling you other ways to hide from the police. I know how great these bikes are which is why I wanted one. I also watched your video on how to register a high powered ebike with the DVLA and there is no way I'd want to do that with only a 750watt. I wish they would change the laws as this tech is brilliant. So now I'm ebike-less as I won't ride a 250watt slug. Back to my old pedal bike.
Hi Andy I'm a 60-year old man watching your videos inspired me to make an ebike. After work in the summer I'm straight off into the countryside and I love it it's great fun you're a decent guy keep up the good work 👍

I agree :)
Start a petition. If it gets 100,000 people to sign it has to be read in the house of commons.
I love the idea of having an ebike like yours but both because of the law and the price tag, that is simply a dream.
With that petition stuff...only a few politicians briefly talk about the issue in a smaller backroom.

Completely agree, we need laws that keep up with the tech. They want people to use green travel then they block it with ancient laws.
If a road cyclist can do 40mph down a hill with tiny narrow tyres and shitty rim brakes then hwo the hell is that safer . The law needs to change to at least in line with Canada at 500W or even the US at 750W .
Hi Andy.
I've been watching your videos for a long time. I live in Upstate New York and I've been riding e-bikes and building e-bikes for going on 7 years now. Not a lot a bikes but always making better bikes and shedding off my older bikes. I've only had two issues. One with a guy in a beat up pickup truck that said I'm a menace to all the drivers on the road and that my e-bike was totally illegal, and the other was just about a week ago where I passed a guy on a road bike and he started swearing and calling me all kinds of vulgar names...You Fn this and that. The police on the other hand have never given me any trouble what so ever. The bike will go 40 miles an hour but a car can go 100 miles an hour. We don't go 100 miles an hour legally. I outfitted my bike with directional signals for added safety and I ride in a responsible manner and I'm respectful to manual bike riders. There will always be those who are jealous that you have something they don't have or can't afford. The road rider caught up to me at a red light and told me that "That's Cheating!"... I'm 61 years old and tore the meniscus in my right knee. If that's cheating... I hope that I can cheat in to my 70's or even my 80's with a trike.
I think that If you're having fun, the powers to be will want to tax it. That's what they do. In New York State, the speed limit on e-bikes is 20 miles an hour I believe. The right side of the roads where I live are designated as bike lanes. Not all of them but a good number of them. The problem is that people are allowed to park their cars on the same side of the road. In the bike lane. We all have to work and live together so that's not a problem. The problem is that I have to go out into traffic, which is totally legal, to go around the parked cars, but I'm restricted to 20 miles an hour. This means that I am going 10 miles an hour slower than the rest of traffic. If the speed was adjusted to 30 miles an hour I could just go around the cars at the speed of traffic in most cases, not all, and get back on the bike lane without slowing down the traffic flow. The other issue is all the storm water drains, manhole covers, black ice in the winter, and debris that clogs up the sides of the road. Manhole covers and Rainwater Grates get pounded down over time. Usually from Snow Plows and I've seen manhole covers that have been pounded down four inches or more. Nothing you want to hit on any bike. Long story short... Having a bike that can keep up with traffic when It needs to legally be in the traffic flow makes sense. Use of a helmet should be mandatory, and turn signals will make that transition easier, safer and smarter. Most people have no clue when you use hand signals. Change takes time. The patent for the first electric bike in the United States was in 1897. Look it up because it doesn't look much different to the early modern e-bikes. I'm pretty sure that that was before people had electric lights! The best thing about electric battery technology is that after your electric car batteries become depleted, you can use them for a battery bank to use for a solar array on your house to power your house, or at least supplement your power consumption. As those batteries become depleted, you can use them for e-bikes and power tools. It's truly a technology that keeps giving and saving. I love the hand me down idea when it comes to the batteries. As battery technology becomes more affordable, and it is, you can hand down the older depleted batteries to others who are just getting into it. The batteries aren't dead. They have a reduced capacity or volume of capacity. With battery technology your taking the energy, dumping the stress on the battery and using the energy that remains on a system that requires less stress and can be used for other things until it is Dead. By then I will be gone and greatfull.
Any bike even without a motor can be dangerous if its rode in a careless manner in a public place, so its not about the power, its about how responsibly its ridden.
Exactly
Lets try 4 keep it that way without regulation for as long as possible. Regulation will only stifle innovation and only the big corporations can't afford to operate in that environment.
Everything on the planet can be dangerous if used carelessly..
Dinae mean we should ban or restrict them from use and hassle people who aren't misusing things.
Completely agree, Andy. As a semi-popular fellow RUclipsr, I’ve had what you’ve experienced and more (especially when we made a TV show that ended up on Netflix!) people really have nothing better to do.
On another note, I WISH I’d found you before buying an Ebike from Halfords and then reviewing it on my channel! I’ve got them a lot of business from that, which is frustrating.
Keep up the good work 👍🏻
I had the same mate, nothing happened but that's why I started down the MSVA route.
I'm 67 and had my old mountain bike converted for a year. I feel a lot fitter and healthier and love going off road and into forestry. Best money I've ever spent. Touch wood. Never been stopped yet.
I have been spotted twice in the last week by my local Police, I was moving at an advanced speed on both occasions! Neither bothered to stop me. I wasn't causing a nuisance, but was simply keeping up with traffic, which is safer in my book.
I'm 50, as I have white hair and don't go for lycra, my less than sporty appearance and turn of speed does result in some funny looks!
Imagine seeing someone having fun and the only thing in your mind is: i should call the police
That used to happen to me ALL THE TIME when I was younger and riding my dirt bike... a@@holss would call the cops on me and next thing u know I'd have a high speed chase on my hands! Lol
This is so ridiculous! The police have so many other much more important things to do than waste their time with somebody going over 15 kph on their ebike.
Freakin trolls.. They need to get a life
They piss me oqff esp for reporting Andy 😡
Lots of great points here. We need to keep showing that it's not all about speed and cool shots, but that the biggest risk bicycle commuters face is speed disparity. High powered eBikes or lightweight LEV's allow us an efficient means of safely maintaining the flow of traffic until the bloated automobile gets phased out. I can't count how many bike lanes around here suddenly end forcing us onto the sidewalk - or worse with no shoulder lane and a single passenger in a giant SUV barreling behind us at 45 mph. Sidewalks are for pedestrians, roads were built for bikes!
Fair play Andy. Good for you. I wholeheartedly agree with you. The current regulations around ebikes/emobility definitely should be reviewed. After all, if more and more people start to build and/or modifying their own electric vehicles, then clearly a suitable infrastructure should be implemented to encourage, inspire and educate the masses. Keep up the good vids mate.
Indeed; The regulations suck. But there are regulations, in order to be able to live with other people peacefully. What if you kill someone by landing on them with your multi-kW e-bike? What happens then?
thanar then it’s vehicular manslaughter. Fun fact if you want to kill someone in the US, put them on a bicycle in Oklahoma and it only costs you $500 to kill a cyclist, really looking out for them right? A small door ding costs $3k usually...
Also fun fact in Texas there is no power or speed limit when pedaling, so my aim is 50 mph (I often average 28mph just pedaling, so basically need to double my speed) so I can go with the flow of traffic which is way safer and better for everyone.
Also fun fact most countries you can fly airplanes without a pilots license, so your question of “if this bicycle kills someone” is the same as any other vehicle known to man regardless if it’s a skateboard to a monster truck (also note that person isn’t going to care how they died, they died!). Plus what are the chances you do? It’s seriously low compared to car or other real vehicle, the only person that is likely to die is the rider.
The Police have received a complaint that someone is riding around on an un-registered, un-insured and un-licenced motorcycle (too fast to be classed as a moped) and have acted quite sensibility. Have you had it seized? Have you got the points on your licence? Stop moaning, you got off lightly.
I hereby charge you, it'll take around 2 hours.
😂😂😂
Two hours, blimy you got a little battery or a big charger?
@@TheWebstaff Enough to get back from the Cop shop.
Its quite embarrassing how some people waste their time. The legal situation in UK is quite similar to the situation in germany, and I've been threatened by viewers many times that they'll report my videos to the police. But I was glad the police still have crimes to solve, not destroy the life of some electric vehicle builders. Because they could legally take your driving license for this stuff. Even when I was working at a startup for a bigger car manufacturer developing a ebike, we didnt have any registration for the vehicle because it's literally impossible to get that for a prototype. So many people would love to ride electric vehicles but are just afraid of the consequences and even developers and inventors have no chance of riding any vehicles without fear.
I read a good quote a while ago: "If Carl Benz lived with today's law, the car would've never been invented."
Hey Andy. Please do use your platform to try to change the situation. I've been banging on about this for ages but have no platform. I'm only using an overvolted 250W motor to do about 28mph max to commute to work but I normally just pedal at 20mph with a bit of assist. It means that I can keep up with the flow of traffic and not hold anyone up. If I was Mark Cavendish then I could do that speed on a normal bike, so what's the issue? I'm happy enough to get third party insurance if only it were possible; as you say, getting a MSVA is a non-starter and I want a bicycle... If I want a motorcycle then I've got a full licence and can buy whatever litre rocketship I want... But I just want a bicycle and no hassle!
CheadleBiker Surely you can get insurance? I’ve got comprehensive insurance covering all my bikes. I wouldn’t want to ride without it these days.
@@Tox1415 What sort of bikes are you talking about? Standard (legal) ebikes? or motorcycles?
@@plodderexup Standard eBikes and standard bikes. Having seen the guy in London get sued by a pedestrian recently I would want to be out without third party insurance. I currently pay about £100 a year to cover commuting, sportive and club rides.
@@Tox1415 Right, so it's not going to cover a modified illegal ebike then. And that's the point.
CheadleBiker If you ride something illegal and hit someone, then you deserve everything you get. No different to a drunk driver in a car IMHO.
Michigan here in the state has this as the ebike Law.
An electric bicycle (or e-bike) is a bicycle that has a small rechargeable electric motor that can give a boost to the pedaling rider and on some models can take over completely. To qualify as an electric bike in Michigan, it must meet the following requirements:
It must have a seat or saddle for the rider to sit on.
There must be fully operational pedals.
It must have an electric motor of no more than 750 watts, or 1 horsepower.
Whether you can ride an electric bicycle on a trail depends on several factors - the e-bike's class, the type of trail, and whether the authority that manages or oversees the trail allows the use. You can read the full legislation here, or see below for a summary
Sorry to hear this! There is always one! Thank you for all the effort you put in and I will be getting a kit when funds allow :)
true!
I 100% support the change of the laws and banning of E-Bikes and limiting E-Bikes/EMoto’s on the road. Pre-signed your petition. I think the government is also behind this to stop people from killing the gas/combustion engine due to investments they have… anyway. Keep up the good content mate.
Mortimer, call the police. The neighbors kid is riding his eeeeee bike again, really fast! 😆
I’ve got an e bike I’ve got an e scooter, many many people in my local area have welcomed me using them on the canals asking where they’ve been purchased and actually wanting them to be around, I do slow down, if I can’t see anyone I’ll do a bit of speed. Dismount at tunnels and narrow paths I’ve had not one bit of problems from it, but there’s been a couple people staring and giving me the evils it’s mainly blokes in there 50s 60s saying you don’t need a motor, probably just don’t like the changes happening. Bit like when the auto gear boxes took off in cars, oh I hate em will always been a manual driver. Can’t please em all...
If I could ride an ebike with power up to 30mph i'm in, if I can only legally get assistance up to 15mph - no chance what a joke. Keep going and let us know how we can help change this ridiculous situation and save the environment. Love the videos.
Alan statutes and acts only apply to those who consent. Theresa May when Home Secretary said in an interview that we are policed by consent, you can go and check. You consent by your acquiescence to these acts/statutes and though the incorrect use of language as defined in blacks law, for example, driving is a term used to describe one who is operating a motor vehicle for commerce, where as most of the time you're in your car you are actually "travelling" in a "private conveyance". Police only operate in the public system not the private . Language tricks!!! If stopped by police the answer is simply, "I don't answer questions". Nobody can make you speak and police can't do anything without a paper trail. They will use fear to try and get you to comply, never back down, never surrender. Never carry ID especially that which does not belong to you. Which none of yours or anyone's does, because you're not a corporation and if you look at your name you'll see it's been capitalised. That's not english FYI. Also look into capitus dominius maxima. This bullshit has gone on too long. Don't let your ego get pulled into their spelling trickery. "I don't answer questions" should be your only response.
You can hack an ebike which will take off the speed limit. Just finding someone who will do it is the tough part
The twist and go only ebikes arent legal at all unless you register them as an electric motorbike, and then you need an approved helmet, insurance, mot, number plate etc. Unfortunately you also need a certificate of conformity, which you wouldn't get with bicycle tyres because they have no proper speed rating. Basically, the government wants people to have electric vehicles, but doesn't want you to have them unless they can control the types that people can have because there are so many different kits, that the Police just don't have a clue what they're looking at.
I’ve registered an ebike in my other video😀 there’s a few hoops you need to Juno through but it’s not too bad.
The miserable people in the world just want everyone else as miserable.. Thus the Democratic party was born.
Having e bikes/scooters etc are nice, but people need to obey laws, i myself own 12kw stealth bomber and never going fast on public roads, walk paths/ bike lanes, max at 15mph speed, but i seen people going crazy with e bikes and other e vehicles on paths witch hit other bike, pedestrians and the aftermath are quite brutal going on these high speeds, its no difference than none e bike, you go fast, police will going to stop you either you on e bike or motorcycle, laws getting stricken because idiots who go on high speeds and causes accidents, if you riding properly nobody will going to bother even if you have 20kw.
The reason I'm here is because of electric motorcycle registration videos. Although the US is way different than the UK, it's great info that can translate.
NO CHAT with police is just a chat, your not in trouble or nothing we just want to chat is the words just before they say your being charged.
It’s guys like you that have the balls to create content like this that is so inspiring.
As for your standard bicycle level e-bike with the small motor and the speed limiter. They were designed to have top speeds similar to a standard bicycle so they will still go down a hill at speed and on the flat but on hills where a rider cannot sustain 15 mph the motor will help. Of course my needs for an electric bike are not primarily getting up a hill a bit quicker, but riding in cities without a swarm of drivers trying to get past, so being able to reach 30 mph and a little bit more is useful without a huge effort. I could teach 30 on an unlimited 250 watt mid drive bike and even on a bike with only leg power but it is hard work. Another bonus is that it does not intimidate on cycling infrastructure. If I prefer to take a shared use path at 15 mph because i can't be bothered with the hectic roads, then a 2 stroke 50cc is still going to be intimidating at reduced speed and must by law stay on the road, but this thing can roll along like a peaceful bicycle if i feather the throttle or turn off the motor. I am not chasing racing performance or over 60 mph speeds as they require very high power and are dangerous on potholes.
I can 100 percent relate to this as it happened to me as well, only on a much more serious consequence because of it. I do nothing but help others, as I run an auto workshop and spend a lot of my spare time modifying e-bikes as others. But your right there is sooo much more happening in this world and there people that hate to see others succeed or to think that you could be an asset to people’s lives.
Take no notice whatever , at the bottom of it , is envy and jealousy ,ugly traits but there you go. Your so talented and your video are inspirational and informative. 👍👏

I've never understood how the police (or anyone else) could prove illegality for any point in time, since how could they accurately measure how much physical pedal power was or was not being inputted and after the event? An ordinary non-e push bike could reach 30mph+ with or without pedalling in any case . Unless the are trying to pursue reckless, furious or dangerous riding, which seems just as silly.
Just built my first E-BIKE and it’s probably the 2nd best thing I’ve ever done !! love these videos and other videos helped me a grate deal thanks 😊

I built a 1000w ebike in 2011. The law needs to change. I cannot believe its been 11 years of me saying this. 250-500w is not even close to what is required for me to give up my car. We could swap 50% of all cars in 2 or 3 years for electric alternatives if we had a decent ride share/rental system and electric bikes in the citys. Most of us do not need cars for most journeys we do if a good electric alternative is available. Honestly I have completely given up hope for humanity. The planet is definitely warming, it will reach a feedback loop at some point that may be unstoppable (arctic ice or permafrost methane) and we could end up with billions dead and a planet that is 5 degrees hotter within the next 100 years. Why take the chance when the alternative is better air quality in the citys and using less of a non renewable resource that could be put to better use elsewhere if it really has to be used at all.
Probably all the others dealers who sell the bikes for 4K more than you do mate
That’s why I don’t post videos of my Ebike mods. Rather just leave it to my comment section. I really want to but there are a lot of haters on ebikes going fast.
Just watching this on my TV and even went upstairs to get my phone to post my good wishes. Oh and as a big **** you to the busy bodies!
It's pretty much impossible for the Police to bother with ebike performance. Because as you say its 15.5mph ASSISTED top speed. But that means if you can ride a regular bike at say 15mph then an ebike will make it quite easy for you to do 30mph. Also having the functionality of doing more than the legal limit assisted is not a crime in itself if you are only using the UK legal setting. It means the Police would find it near impossible to prove you were breaking the law at any specific time.
Totally agree that there is much more potential for mass take up of ebikes if our laws were more like the USA. Keep up the good work!
I understand your frustration. I spent nearly 6 months getting a Californian 2 stroke cycle on the road in 1980's. Having taken it to Blackpole Police HQ, we settled on an agreement. I could run it under power for 6 miles a week and insure it as an agricultural vehicle.
Brilliant vids Andy!
So I can roll down hill on a 30mph limit road on my MTB without breaking the law? However, travelling up the same road at 30mph on a E-bike is illegal because the assistance level above 250w 36v is too high? now thats baffling!
Spoke to two local plods about the scummy kids running around on motorbikes on the green belt at the side of my house. It's a essentially a cut through for drug couriers. They said they were aware, but had to choose their battles.
So that was a clear green light for me and my ebike. Difference is, my ebike might be mildly illegal, but my cargo ( usually destined for the Post Office) isn't.
The Americans are paving the way when it comes to sensible power ratings for Ebikes with 750W or 1Hp being acceptable without having to go through complex registration for use on the road.
Stay cool, stay strong, Ebikes are the future!
Wow, some people have nothing better to do. 15mph limit is pathetic.
Yup never understood limiting the power to 250W, sure limit the top speed but the power? 250W doesnt pull an adult very well up any decent grade, there should be a limit on speed of say 23mph with an acceleration limit but no limit on power, just like the TV licence its old and outdated and needs to change.
And it makes no sense. On the right bike you can pedal to speeds faster than 15 mph.
Brian Hinton yeah I averaged like 28 mph during race season, I was doing 19 mph even on gravel after being off the bike for over 6 months. 15 is slower than a lot of children’s scooters, there’s no way that’s safe on the road! I can easily put pedal that with one leg...
@@jakegarrett8109 I think the original purpose was not to simulate a 50cc scooter - but like a normal bike that is easier to go uphill, though I agree that it is still a pain to ride a normal bike in fast urban traffic, though unlimited power and maybe a 20 mph limit sounds more sensible. It's possible but it feels like you've just done an interval training workout. I say unlimited power as long as you don't accidentally drift round a junction and fall off. It would still require sensible use on a shared use path. I don't think I'd trust any old teenager to ride my Bafang BBS02B kit sensibly. Though I've had problem with normal bikes where a kid pulled out of a side path in front of me. He said "sorry" sheepishly but I had to jam on the brakes although I was only doing 10 mph.
My dad's e-bike can do 30mph when I turn off the restrictions. Built it for him with a Chinese kit.
Testing it was super fun he he
I knew this was going to happen sooner or later.
They are interested now.
There are always people that snitch and trying to ruin an other one's fun
How about this. By law, the person making the complaint has to accompany the police when they confront you with the charges. You could bet you wouldn't have as many petty calls like this.
I totally agree with the law change idea. In Czech, you can drive ebike with max speed of 25kph and max power of 1kW (maybe with thumb throttle) and in Austria you can drive ebike with the same specs as in CR but no throttle allowed, only pedal assist can be used. Almost anybody can pedal 25kph or faster. If the top speed limit is increased, it would mean a lot.
The old bill were having a crack down on escooters in London a few months ago. One guy has got a court appearance on the 14 of feb. They want to give him 6 points on his license and £300 fine!!!
Where was he riding it?
cjeam apparently around the City.
Matt Jones I’ve never seen anyone riding those scooters anywhere you can ride a bike be stopped. They’re really common in bike lanes, police don’t bat an eye.
If his bike isn't registered with dvla then it is his own private personal transport so should have nothing to do with his licence
Expecting cops to leave you alone is like expecting a cat to ignore a laser pointer. Even when they know it's stupid, they just can't resist the urge.....
Hi Mate! I'm following your videos like 5 month, I've got a Dualtron electric scooter and more than happy with it. I love electric mobility, is so nice! You have my support my friend!
Yep I have an electric scooter to. I love the thing it's only 350w but it's goodenuff for me
We in Serbia have an anecdote.Someone said:"Let the neighbors sow die".When asked:"Why?You have no use for it".He replied:"Yes,I have no use,but he has harm".
Who understands will understand.
Greetings from Serbia.
Andy, keep doing what you're doing.
I'm from the US and I ride my Stealth Bomber to work when the weather permits it. Ebike laws varies from state to state but most states it's a 750 watt motor and a speed of 30 mph. In my area where cops won't mess with you as long as you not doing anything stupid. Also if you going to ride it on the road you must have front and rear lights ,a mirror, a horn and wear a DOT certified helmet. Also must obey all the rules and laws of the road. My Stealth Bomber can hit 80mph very easily which I hardly do.
You are doing great work and video’s, 100% supporting you Andy
Me too.
Been "ratted" out myself and I guess I made sense when I explained why I equipped my bike with the massive amount of power that it has and when I explained that the power was there to get me OUT of trouble, not into it by doing hooligan runs. Both the officers in this example and one since agreed fully. This brings up another subject you might understand. How does one outdo one's self these days? A certain sense of pride comes over you when you step over a machine and realize that your ability has allowed you to outdo yourself when you look down and realize that there are situations in which this beast will go faster than you'll ride it! Ever had that feeling come over you?
Well done Andy. Spoken like a true Gent..enough said..
I’m in the USA. A 20 mph eBike is same as a bicycle, and treated as a bicycle on all multiple use trails and paths and roadways. A 28 mph eBike is not allowed on stand alone multi-use trails, but is otherwise considered a bicycle, and treated as a bicycle on all roadways. Most production mountain eBikes are speed regulated at 20 mph. Most road style, and commuter style, production eBikes are built as 28 mph restricted eBikes.
Your doing an awesome job Andy. I can’t believe how petty some people are.
guy in my province got fined cause he wasn't pedaling his ebike , this world is warped. they should be praising you for saving the planet love your channel rock on
I’m getting a electric moped
Andy I commented on one of your videos I am an motorcycle cycle mechanic with years of experience and despite explosions of scooters dirt bikes and more recently quads all coming out of my back yard I have had little attention from the police...after all I only either repair them or produce them...but what you say about the latest craze is true electric power is not about to go away and battery power is just bound to increase simply through the use of technology gadgets and the Green revolution...I agree ebikes escooters and emono bikes and eskates aren't being produced to just satisfy UK laws and the mot and all others and iUK law is not exactly up to date...however it's unlikely the law will change but more likely it will learn to ignore the latest emachines and concern itself with the road and public safety and potential nuisance aspect of the use of the machines...this is where my machines have caused real issues with the law and it's the user not the mechanics or workshop that's usually the problem..so if you follow my advice just tread carefully with the bikes use your machines on private land and try your best to observe the speed limit or keep speeding off camera...if your anything like myself it's likely kids parents and teenagers are the real issue not an engineer or mechanic like you...millions of these machines are on there way the police and the law may not recognise them as lawfull in this country and that really is crazy but they're not going after the manufacturer so why? go after you...PS I'm not so involved these days with bikes other than the cycle too busy with the day job and an you tube channell in the spare time and it's not about conventional machines though but I swear I have heard all of this before...
Theres no such thing as a "nice friendly chat" when it comes to the cops... 🙄😒
Yes there is
@@-joo3033 On the Job? No there is always that making you feeling guilty part in that friendly chat.
I am so glad I live in California, where 5000 watt ebikes on the road are not uncommon. Cops don't pull over riders that aren't causing a scene or driving erratically.
You are riding a ebike with bicycle parts at 70-80km/h on streets (and record it on Video) and you wonder why people calling the police? Its a very fun toy but i would never run it on the street, no insurance, .... it is just stupid.
I ride mine only offroad and it has a bit more power than yours. Imagine you riding a kid around the corner over or sthing else and is now handicapped?
DONT ride it on Streets, and if you do, dont record it.
And if you don't like it, start lobbying to change the laws..
So you're the one.
@@TheWebstaff Yes master, please master, I don't like it master.
How do those boots taste?
Sylvan Butler who knows, greetings from Germany lol 😂
You're more likely to run over a kid off-road than on the road. Reported you to the police.
1908: "Those damn Wright Brothers flying bicycles over my home...I'm gonna call the cops".
Could be anyone of the 7 dislikes lol useless trolls
Some of them might dislike it because they are hating on the person who phoned the police :D
It's changing quite rapidly in the US in a good way. I think one of the reasons is that more and more seniors are riding them for health purposes. So, the image of the young punk tearing around the neighborhood putting people in danger is disappearing. But it isn't just seniors. Other age groups have joined the two wheeled electric age. Parks everywhere are now allowing in class 1 and 2 bikes. Also 750w is reasonable for me and gets me around almost all MTB trails. I don't usually ride on roads with cars, but in most instances 20 mph is fast enough. I can fudge that by going 28 mph if I want. I've never been stopped by a cop.
I know that in some states in the big cities they are more anal about enforcement.
Geeezsh! Must be a really slow day at the cop shop.
I think the work you're doing is brilliant and perfect timing for this transitional time when we're in-between gas burners and truly useful, affordable electrics. You give real world solutions for a useful machine and good on you for sharing it. You could do this stuff for yourself in a quarter of the time without filming, lighting, editing, uploading and so on. When I think about the real crime going on it's hilarious that law enforcement had the time to call you up on a youtube video posting. As for who would turn it in... the best proof you're actually doing something worthwhile is when the haters show up bitching. You can't fix stupid. Just keep shining your light in the dark. The faster and better ranged these vehicles get, the wider audience will be able to adopt this tech and make a REAL difference in traffic, parking and emissions. I'm just waiting for the day I see you in the paddocks at Isle of Man readying your bike for the ton. ;-)
When the police “just want a chat”, RUN. They want to arrest, charge and convict you.
At least in the U.S., running from police is a crime.
Sylvan Butler Punishable by summary execution, shot in the back. Happened so many times....
But if you have nothing to hide..... says the looser reporting everything.
@@EssenceRare I've had the authorities tell me, "normally we wouldn't bother with this, but when someone complains we have to investigate just to close the paperwork."
Seriously tho we need to change the law. 15mph is not enough. For a safety point of view and at lease 25mph would be better. Getting away from traffic lights on the roads or out of a sticky situation. They should maybe do it the same way the drone laws changed, do a online safety test and register the bike. We're left the EU, the are legal in America. Let's start a petition for a change!
I've always thought the current situation with ebikes being so restricted on power and speed, making them basically useless for usable transport. Also having a bike that can keep up with the flow of traffic, makes it a much better solution for commuting.
They’re not basically useless at current power levels, they’re a perfect assisted bicycle. The speed pedelec level allows an assisted bicycle that can also keep up with traffic in urban environments. Anything that works on a throttle or has a higher top speed not unreasonably needs a licence.
@@cjeam9199 I do agree, but I thought assistance is limited be up to a speed of 12.5 miles per hour or something similar. Is my understanding wrong?
That's normal and completely expected for the UK. As someone who's lived in many places, Brits are the WORST when it comes to rules. Other cultures (e.g. French, Germans, even the Swiss etc.) apply some pragmatism and common sense. But the Brits immediately focus on the strictest interpretation all the while complaining the most about them. Ironically, Brits really, honestly believe they are more pragmatic and have lots of common sense... Self-belief is another feature of British culture, whether it's backed up by facts or not.
Jealousy Andy that’s all it is.
Keep up the great video content 👍
I, m 68 just converted my 25 year old bike to electric and it bloody flies down the road. Reminds me of being a teenager when you could ( and I did ) ride a motorbike without wearing a helmet. Retired and refusing to bow down to this nanny state. Have fun live fast and furious.
That'll teach you to do wheelies around the Tesco car park 🚴🏼🚴🏼😂😂😂
In England, if its electric motor:
1) must have a maximum power output of 250 watts.
2) should not be able to propel the bike when it’s travelling more than 15.5mph
(So 15.5mph is max speed, pedal assist or not)
Keep up the videos m8 take no notice of the one jealous person👍
Thing is if you post videos with your bike doing big speeds it's only a matter of time b4 they clamp down on it.
Sur-Ron , been watching you.
Ignore knife crime ! Get the bloke having fun on a bike !
Sad sad little person who would even do that. Hopefully they read all the comments on how much of a complete stain on the pants of society they are. 🤣🤣
So I just want to get your opinion on something. I currently have a phatmoto and I'm converting it to a dual power with a rear electric hub. What watt do you recommend? 500w or 1000w? Any specific recommendations?
I bet the dude who did it is here in the comments 👎
̶I̶ ̶a̶m̶ ̶S̶p̶a̶r̶t̶a̶c̶u̶s̶ Hahaha yeah I know right?!
Andy I support you wholeheartedly! I'm 65 with arthritis & a bad back. I have a cannondale mtb that I can no longer ride because of those issues. But I can ride an e-bike no problem. I live in a small town of about 2500 people and have a lot of inquires about my e-bike. All positive. Unfortunately it's minus 33 celsius so no riding today. Your videos are inspiring. Keep up the good work. I hope you can figure out how to not let people get under your skin if you haven't already. When you do or if you already have let me know because stuff like this really really gets to me. Please keep up the good work!
