Bach's Two and Three Part Inventions (BWV 772--801) are a collection of thirty short keyboard compositions. Bach wrote these masterpieces as exercises for his students.

Amazing video! Really helpful. Thanks ❤
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for letting me know ❤️
Thank you for doing this. I just started to lean this piece. This is a huge and enjoyable tool. This is a great service for learners. If you might take requests. Invention no 4 775 and prelude on C minor 847. Either way, your lessons are have been an important help to me.
Glad it was helpful! Did you check the given webpage link? I’m think I completed the two-part inventions, definitely did the prelude in C.
Thank you very much, Jane for this important piece and teaching.
You’re welcome, Neilram.
Gratidão!
Seu vídeo foi o melhor tutorial que encontrei para essa peça.
Deus abençoe!🙌🏻🥰💕
Appreciate your kind compliment. Thank you 🥰
So very helpful, thank you!
You're so welcome! Glad it was helpful ❤️
Inventions are too advanced for me to play. But I have the book and use it for one handed exercises. My teacher is very supportive. BTW I’m taking each motif and transposing it into other keys.
Have you tried practicing just four measures with both hands at a slow pace? Use a metronome and gradually increase the speed. Give it a try; you might be surprised at how well you can learn this way. It’s great that your teacher is supportive and that you can already transpose! ❤️
This is very easy and hard at the same time, it's one of easiest "invention" but it's kinda hard, thank you for helping!!
The easiest pieces are often the most difficult to play well due to transparency. Good luck practicing! I think master Seymour Bernstein has a lecture on this invention. Search for it?
@@janepianotutorials omg yes
I can play all notes hands separate pretty easy, but when I bring hands together for the first phrase it’s very hard. I haven’t tried it yet today, but do you have any tips with getting proper rhythm with ornament? Should I practice without it first maybe?
To practice any piece, choose a short session that looks difficult, set a metronome to your competent speed (both hands together), then tick it up 1bpm upon each repeat. With patience you will reach tempo and play evenly. For the rest, increasing by 2 bpm might be fine. Yes, skipping the ornaments to hear the exact beat does help. Have fun playing piano!
Hi Jane, is possible to make left hand only video?
I just experimented by 1) turning off the sound 2) cover the right hand with my RH fingers 3) play the LH notes by imitation. It works. Idea: you can cover the RH with blue tape or paper. Although. The sooner you play with both hands is better! Just choose 2 measures to practice with a metronome. Set it to your competent speed, and upon each repeat, tick it up 1 bpm. The rest with follow easily.
@@janepianotutorials that is awesome 🙏
❤❤❤❤❤ i love it
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 thank you
Thank you Jane fir the video. I ask you a question.. Is it an error if I use other fingers for playing this invention? I have another version in the book...😊
You’re welcome. Editions have different fingering due to the individual hand structures of the editors. IMSLP has many editions, you can look for one that best suits your hands.
👏👏👏
🙏
Hello the ornamental is being played incorrectly. The music is mis labeling it. It is not a mordant but a trill.
Editions vary. Performances vary. Play what sounds best for you. 🤗
I agree as my teacher just taught me that section... however... it still sounds very good how Jane played it😊
Very Nice 👍👍👍👍
Thank you, glad you like it
The fingering is quite diffierent in my book (gold coloured front cover)
Yes, each editor uses fingering that suits their hand structure. Always try to find one whose fingering is similar to ours. E.g., I found that Czerny’s and Josefy’s fit my hands well.
@janepianotutorials thank you! 😊
Nice ❤❤❤
Glad you like it thanks for writing 🥰
Hello Jane ,could you make a tutorial for Bach No.11 in F major BWV 856?thanks a lot!!
Will add your request to that webpage. Your country? If your post your request under my request video and others vote for it, it will move up the wait list.
What is the metronome number you're playing with?
I usually state that in the intro panels, did I forget?
Very helpful. Can you advise.. the trill twice in the first section... i thought it was a 4 note trill. And later theres a 3 note tril (starts on C)
Trills can be maddeningly inconsistent, which can be frustrating for someone with a mathematical mindset. Despite supposed “rules,” concert pianists often seem to follow their own preferences. I yearn for editions that provide detailed trill instructions in footnotes, and some can be found on IMSLP. Ultimately, it’s a choice between following your teacher’s advice or playing what you believe sounds best.
@janepianotutorials thank you 😊
A four note trill is pretty easy to fit in: a triplet in 32nd starting with the note above.
Also see discussion on what the original should be. Long story short, a trill. The matter of choosing arose with bad copies..
@@clockfixer5049 thanks for helping ! I suspect the Handel I will upload next was requested because of the ornaments.

I feel czerny’s mordents go the wrong way. His mordents go backward all the time and they sound rather dull..
Unless someone critical is listening, play them the way you like them 😊
