    Thank you so much! I really appreciate this. I learned about fugues some 30 years ago when I was in high school through this piece. Now I'm learning to play I hope to finally master it. This will definitely be a great help 🙏🏼

    It's really great that you have the score running along to your playing with the fingerings. This is really helpful. All so it is a big help that you actually play it so low and with a metronome so that it is easy to follow for us students. Happy New Year, Jane, you are a fantastic teacher, and thank you for this RUclips tutorial.

    I'm starting this fugue now and I'm enjoying it soooooo much.
    It's lovely and serene like a willow dipping its lower branches into a deep stream of water on a breezy, sunny day. 😍

    Hello Jane. I recently discovered your channel through this tutorial. I bought a large collection of Bach's piano music a couple months ago, and I have had mixed levels of success in learning some pieces; although I have been playing for four years, his music is generally much more complex than what I am used to. I expect your videos will be very useful as I continue to progress through the book. Thanks!
    Are there any particular pieces (e.g. out of the Well-Tempered Clavier or Inventions) you would recommend as a good starting point for someone relatively unacquainted with Bach?

    • @janepianotutorials
      @janepianotutorials  3 года назад +2

      The 1st prelude in C is relatively easy and well known. When I took 5 yrs of piano lessons, the teacher started me with a few 2-part inventions, then a few 3-part inventions. WTC pieces are more advanced and none were assigned. Later when I tried them on my own, I practiced a few I liked (after listening to Glenn Gould). I never heard of students finishing both books of WTC!

      @@janepianotutorials Thanks for the insight. I have been relatively successful in learning the first few preludes in WTC; it is relieving to know the other pieces are not supposed to be as simple.

    Thank you so much for your great tutorials, Jane. I am a beginner and I don't know which hand is used for which voice. Can you tell my a way how to find that out?

    • @janepianotutorials
      @janepianotutorials  Год назад

      Which hand to use depends on hand structure, if the edition is a good one, stems up usually indicates right hand, stems down left hand. But we have to determine what works for ourselves. I try to follow the editor’s fingering for tutorials even if it is uncomfortable.

    Thank you for a very nice tutorial! Can you please tell me wich sheet music edition you are using? I think I like the fingering better than in my Urtext edition.

      Please pause @0:10 for the IMSLP edition shown here. I played from my own book back then, likely a different Schirmer edition.

    I'm learning it currently and habe been working until 2min36 (and still need much practive). I find the fingering really hard on this fugue. Maybe I should try like you do at about 1min52, when you don't play the Cerny fingering, but Finger 3 and 4 for E and F.

    • @janepianotutorials
      @janepianotutorials  Год назад +1

      Sometimes we can't follow an editor's fingering due to differences in hand structure. It's fine to adjust fingering to fit our hands.

    Hello there good people of the Internet.
    I am 32 year old beginner, I've bought C1 Air Korg digital piano to start fulfilling my childhood dream of learning to play. Until now I had no money/free time to start, but in the past couple of months I've moved up the ladder at the company I work for that brought me more free time, and my twins are now 2 years old and finally have a sleep schedule. That in mind I can and will dedicate 2 hours of every day for as long as I live to learn the piano. The only issue I have now, and what I'd like for someone experienced to tell me, is what are the steps someone should take. What should the progress look like. E.G. Learn notes, learn chords, scales, arpeggios, then play begginer sheet music (focus on learning to sight read). This is just my opinion, don't know if it's correct, so please, please tell me what would the begginer path look like. I am actively searching for piano teacher, but no one is willing to give classes starting at 22.00h (the time I get free from being employee, husband and a father of 2 young twins.

      Since you commented here, go to my channel page and click the community tab. I wrote a message to beginners on how to learn from my channel. The twins must be a handful but a joy. Resting to maintain health is more important. Half an hour of piano practice each day should be fine the first year. I practiced no more than that my first year. Then at most an hour the next 4 years of lessons. Why so little? Schoolwork was my priority. In 5 years you’ll still be less than half my age. In other words, don’t rush. You have plenty of time to learn!

    I literally came here for one specific beat… beat two of bar five where the right thumb slides from E to F. The video has a break in it right at that exact moment. Hmm… that beat seems to be a very tricky spot for fingering.

    • @janepianotutorials
      @janepianotutorials  2 года назад +2

      You are observant. Following an editor’s fingering causes me to stumble the most. I often find recommended fingering counterintuitive. But I follow because when viewers say my fingering’s bad, I can reply, “tell the editor”. 😂 . There, I prefer 5/(1,2) for the C and held G, 4/1 for the A and F, 2 for the E.
