Hadley Hockensmith must be the most underrated and overlooked player in the history of guitar. This is the definitive tone!
Abraham Laboriel's 8 string bass is crazy, and he plays it with such dexterity. The man has strong fingers! Funky stuff.
Justo Almario still plays at our church a couple of times a year. What a blessing!
HAHA! These guys and their talent make me laugh out loud with JOY! Such an appreciation for this unbelievable group of musicians! This is criminally under viewed! I thank the Creator for such cool vibes.
Thanks for posting this! An entire generation of Christian Jazz Musicians have been blessed and influenced by the music of Koinonia. Justo Almario is one of the reasons I started playing, and is still a major influence in my music and career. Praise God for Koinonia!
Saw them this same year I believe, 1984 (maybe 1983), at Huntington Beach, CA famous club called the "Golden Bear." Artists such as Dick Dale, Janis Joplin, Arlo Guthrie, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Hoyt Axton, Jackson Browne, Jimi Hendrix, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Dave Mason, Tower of Power, The Chambers Brothers, Jose Feliciano, and Jerry Garcia played there. Club there 1923 to 1986. Abraham up to his old passionate jamming antics during that jam. It was standing ovation awesome. That club was eventually tore down due to development. It was right there on the corner of PCH and the famous Huntington Beach Pier. Old hang. But urban sprawl took over. Big shopping place now. Hotels, etc. They fought the teardown but big money won out as usual. Good memories. Saw Koinonia not too far off from that 1984 event ,at another venue long gone as well. But this place was literally a housing/business building, long dining room turned into a venue. Literally like they were jamming in your living room. Maybe 25 of us there to enjoy. And did they jam. Haha Like we were all just hanging out at our house. Crazy situation, but well worth it. These guys are just plain good. Amen.
In my opinion Koinonia is the greatest jazz band with that unique style of melody which can never be reproduced by other musicians. Thank you Koinonia for being such a big part of my life's journey. My kids grew up with Lyn, Valentine, Senor Funky Bumpkins. Just pure music pleasure, skill and talent from the giver of Life. Shalom
Great Christian band, and I never knew that when I was dancing to their music at my favourite night club before I met the Lord
Best Christian Jazz artists I've heard. Praise God.
I'm so blessed and challenged by this Christian group, hope you can make a new material again. I grew up as a musician listening to Koinonia's cassette tape.

In my opinion, Abraham Laboriel is one of the most delicious bassplayers and musicians of the last century ...! Love and peace out there on earth ...!

A las personas que votaron con el pulgar abajo definitivamente no saben de musica.Grande Koinonia
Watching some contemporary bassplayer on yt led me down a rabbithole, to Victor Wooten and then Abraham Laboriel and Koinonia. How many home papers I have made with Koinonia on the cassete player...
Thums down????
Timeless, eternal bliss, simply spiritually uplifting, joy unspeakable! The endless fountain of surrender to the spirit within us all! Thank You for sharing your harmony of a brotherhood that is "One from the Heart!"
It's really impresive how good the music is. All the artists in the band are certenly very blessed talented musicians!!! Very Special!!!
