- The extraordinary bass player Abraham Laboriel started off with a little improv slow blues riff, then the rest of the band joined in making it up as they played. Hadley Hockensmith on guitar, Bill Maxwell on drums, Greg Mathieson on organ, and Phil Driscoll on trumpet. Phil also mashed up some lyrics from 2 or 3 songs, made up a few others and the result is this infectious blues number I'm calling "Case of the Blues." Great musicians making fantastic music on the fly,

I'm laughing (kindly) at the skepticism, expressed by some, of this work's originality. Fellas, when you have been playing as long as these guys - improv is like breathing! Talent abounds!! It's just a part of who you are - or have become. Don't doubt! Keep playing. Keep practicing! You'll get there! Meanwhile - enjoy the fruit of their years of labor! Blessings on ya'.
Or, you've been doing so long that there is nothing left! Take note: There is no originality left in blues.

No originality left. The organ player looks like he's afraid of the thing. The guitar player should open his eyes and dig his ugly shirt

Before Koinonia, I remember three of them playing with Keith Green in the early 1980s.

Y'know the best part is Abraham's bass solo part I was almost lost just in simple counting 1 2 3 4 of 12 bars blues scales and in the drum parts, he showed off his tricky way of manipulated upside down backward upward mixed in still keeping the groove,. Main beat tempo, oh man wow ooh yeah, btw did they turn the tik Tok tik Tok to keep the tempo in norms! Seems like they lost, Ha' k'phew’"?!

Hi! Sorry, after relistening to this,, I think my ears were playing tricks on me! I don't hear any OVERT out-of-phase Fender sound,, but his treble pickup certainly is clear-cutting,, more than usual,,, maybe a coil tap?!?!
Well, he has a single coil pickup (between bridge and neck) and looks like he plays switching this pickup on in some combo. Plus he plays using fingers, so attack is not so hard. That's why this Gibson sounds Strat or Tele.
He's a gear nut, like many guitarists ... he might be using a modeler; also he designed and built (and sells) his own stomp pedal too, the "Harmonic Converger". No idea what it does, but I can fairly well guess from what I know about him that just because it looks like an LP doesn't mean the guts resemble anything like what Les intended ... as for using his fingers ... not always, but yeah.

had one of the best evenings with my husband of twenty years, right here in South India, listening to this incredible music. What a soul, what a rhythm and what a passion...reminds me of the olden days,,, decades ago when we youngsters forgot ourselves in blues, jazz and The Doors: Riders on the storm.....Thanks from the bottom of our souls... thanks to the incredible musicians...
