Great vid Laura, I have a scout 29er which i love. Have had various full sussers over the years, enjoyed them all and may well head that way again, though i will never get rid of the hardtail, just something about it that is addictive. 62 this year and still hanging in there 👍

I have a vitus sentier 27 vrs hardtail, cousin to nukeproof. Awesome bike, I've been riding all sorts of bikes since childhood, I'm now 57, but this is my first real mountain bike. I like the skill of navigating not just gliding over roots, rocks etc. Yes I don't go that fast but, skill, concentration, anticipation and fun is my aim.
Modern HT's can pretty much handle anything now and are so much fun. I had a whyte 905 for 2 years and it was a beast of a bike. A friend of mine rides an upgraded ragley marley and has done and kept up with me on some mega trails including adrenalin uplift. Great fun 👍
Absolutely, totally agree there. Now I’ve ridden this I can appreciate how they ride. Ridiculously fun and so capable. I felt it on some trails for sure but the bike can ride them all no bother!

Yup I totally agree. I felt like I could take this down most of not all of the enduro stuff I ride. Granted it wouldn’t be too comfortable on some but it would ride it no bother! Brilliant fun! 😁
hardtails CAN ride anywhere that is fact that has been proven by my man from mtbnetwork channel. the question is can you ride anywhere ? full suspicious are overrated they are not necessary unless you want to race and get the best time.
Oh nice! Cracking bike. Feel like it can take on anything! I know haha I could never appreciate the hardtail until now that I’ve ridden one! Addictive!

I'm 6 weeks into this mountain biking hobby, the first bike I've ever owned since I was a child, I'm 37 now.. And I got an XC style hardtail. Just an entry-level Trek Marlin 8 and I have learnt so much with the limited riding I've done. Nothing as hardcore as this but yeah, hoping to upgrade to full Sus one day :)
Nice one! That's ideal to get started and hardtails definitely push you to learn good technique! I picked up a cheap second hand trail bike when I started about 7 years ago and it was great to learn on. I took chunks out of it with all my crashes 😆 then upgraded after a couple of years.
I’m 39 pushing 40 and went thru the same thing last weekend. Borrowed a hard tail and rode for the first time since being a kid. I’m debating on saving for full suspension but I really enjoyed the experience with a hard tail.

In 2023 they‘re not „modern“ any more … but already out of fashion again, like almost all things that were „so modern“ one day. LOL Apart from that: what you’re showing in this video has not much to do with biking…this I call rolling down a LONG single grail without pedaling …and probably first going uphill by a car or a ski lift…
Hahahah bike check and talking about handling has nothing to do with biking… that’s interesting 😂. And the location that is frequently used for the enduro world cups with these trails included due to plenty pedalling to the top and long rough trails down but you know best 😂
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB Will you be making more videos riding hardtail? Would love to see more hardtail riding. Everyone ride full suspension when hardtail is the most sold bike, globally.
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB I bought a Marin San Quentin last year... thinking of selling it and upgrading to a very top of the range hardtail- full sus is cool but hardtails are for the purists 😂😂
Great video! I’m back on a steel 29er hard tail after 23 years of riding a full suspension. Yes, it is definitely no where near as smooth, but at 57 years young my riding style has changed, and I love the hard tail. Also no cursing with FS🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks! Oh nice, I’ve always wanted to try a steel bike - heard so many good things! Haha it will be quite different I imagine but must be really fun to ride. Definitely a full body workout 😂
I have just built up a Ragley Mmmbop hardtail (mullet build) 63% headangle.. Just need a few more little bits and its ready to shred.. Coming from a full sus. its gonna be great fun
I ride a hardtail in the winter ...27.5 ,and enjoyed it so much ...I sold my full sus, for. A 62 degree head angle 1296mm wheelbase 29er ....and I blooming love it ! It's a downhill slayer ......or if would be in the hands of someone who could ride proper !
I have both HT and FS Specialized Rockhoppers that were made into Mullets. HT has a 27/29 with a RS Judy fork and the FS is a 26/27 also with a RS Judy up front and a FOX Float rear. I tend to ride on goat trails with both here in Colorado. Each have their own personalities, which makes them fun to ride.
Have a Kona Lanai which I’ve only had a year and I absolutely love it, brilliant bike for less than £700 and has got me down dumyat in 1 piece and even though I’ve just invested in a Bird Aeris AM9 I’ll never ever dispose of the kona and will just keep upgrading and repairing it till it gives up the ghost. Love the videos and you both seem to love the MTB 👌
Sounds great. It’s good having one you can upgrade over time and that’s fun to ride. Good choice with the Bird too. They sound like amazing bikes from the friends that ride them 👌. Thanks, glad you enjoy the vids! We’re both very much addicted to biking! 😅
Hard tails forever . i've ridden hardtails before hardtails even existed , like back in the 1950s. i still ride a hard tail today at 75. however , wait for it ,,,, with a motor . yeah i said it , i ride an e bike . why ? because i'm over 70 and people over seventy can do and say what ever they please with zero consequence . 😂🤣😆😳😆 Seriously , that bike in the video is awesome . i would get one if my legs and back weren't so messed up . nice video.
That’s brilliant seeing biking evolve over the years! Love it! Haha 😂 Honestly I’d have an e bike at any age! So many trails in a short space of time. As you say though it means nothing stops you doing what you love as you get older. I do hope I will still be riding at 75 too. That’s an inspiration!! Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! 🙌
You didn’t sell the hardtail on the golfie (bit of a shock) but bang on at Glentress, how is such physical and metal torture so much fun 🤯.. Good stuff, enjoyed your commentary!! When your on a budget (like me) they’re the way forward 😉
It was definitely a shock 😂. Got to know it a little better by Glentress and it was a bit smoother! Had a blast on it. Yeah and less maintenance too without the rear shock and pivots👌
People look at a hardtail and think...well yes the front has suspension and the back is just rigid...but..it's the way a hardtail frame starts to pivot and dance over the fork when up to speed, that makes it so entertaining and addictive!... i think anyway!
Hey respect for giving it a good go. I have an Hardtail that I keep moding but mixed emotions to get an ebike as boys I ride with have them. They do wait for me up the hills but normally I can't speak once I get there. Down hill I'm right there if not faster haha
cheers, it was mega fun. I've got a few friends who got ebikes for a similar reason especially as their local has a ridiculously steep climb. Means more trails in the time you have without having to try and be crazy fit! All for them :)
I got an On One Hello Dave built up in Feb. Plan was to try out a modern 29er hardtail as a winter bike. I haven't looked at the full sus since and am probably going to sell it. The Hello Dave has no right to be as good as it is.
Sounds great. If it’s anything like this I can imagine. Just ridiculously fun and capable. I’ve handed this back to my friend now and missing it 😂. Definitely can see why hard tails are so popular. Addictive!
Cracking video laura jane, good effort, i hope my 6 year old daughter can shred it like u, when it comes to it. I ride a whyte 905, with 2.8 tyres, which make a bit of difference. Took it down one of the EWS trails at glentress, it was hard going, but fun.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Aww 6 years old is a good time to start! I wish I had got into the sport young. That sounds great, I’ve tried 2.8 tyres once and it was like having some extra suspension. Really enjoyed it so I can imagine!
Yeah, I think hardtails get a bad rap simply because of all the dirt-cheap garbage ones around. Give someone a good quality hardtail to learn on then they can decide if MTB is for them before they waste the big bucks on the full-suspension bike.
Yeah a hardtail is ideal to get a feel for it when new to biking. I would definitely have this as a second bike if I could. Rides well! Loads of cracking hardtails out there as you say 👌
Hi Laura tam . Yeah I’ve got a ht bought ragley blue pig race . And I absolutely love it lol but down side is when you try a full suss you feels like it’s jus been sorta nursing you over the rough stuff but found ht faster and more fun , jus have to choose your lines better lol ( truth be told .. bet you can’t wait to get your bike back lol ?)
Oh nice! Haha I think I did it a good way around riding the full sus for years then trying the hardtail. I am definitely happy to have my full sus as the main bike! I really do think I will be buying a hardtail at some point though - you’re right they are just so fun! Definitely not as forgiving though 😂
Haha I’m not sure if I would on the rough stuff all the time 😅 but I would definitely have it as a second bike! Had such a good time on it! It did well on the steeps and very supportive! Rode a few during the week i had it 👌 cheers glad you enjoyed it!
Great to see you enjoyed the Hardtail. Modern long travel slack hardtails are very capable and are seriously underrated. They are more of a workout to ride fast than a full suspension, but if you rise to the challenge and lift your fitness to the level required they are very rewarding. I ride a Bird Zero AM with 160mm fork, 64 deg HA and ride everything my friends ride on their full suspension bikes and match their pace. It is very fast on trails where there are pump sections and of course efficient to pedal up hill.
Totally agree. For a first go on one I quickly realised it would be much more work than I anticipated 😅. After a couple of rides got used to it more and was such good fun! Shame I had to give it back to my mate 😂. The Bird looks great 👌
still rockin my 2014 giant talon it has givin me many years of fun. last month put a new chain on it and minor Maintenace, first time since I bought it in 2014.

Thanks! Ah it’s a great bike isn’t it! It’s an RRP Proguard. Got it on my full sus too. Big difference vs the smaller one I used to have for reducing the mud on the goggles!
I'm not 100% sure, i've certainly not seen any carbon ones around. Ah that's annoying! Seems to be like that with every bike part we need this year too 😅
Great report Laura. My hardtail is an old Orange MsIsle 4X bike 26 inch wheels. Use it mostly for morning xc rides. Limited gearing so great training bike. Thanks for filming, Andy
Thanks! Sounds ideal for training. Probably quite fun on the 26inch wheels too. My gravel bike has quite hard gearing so I use it a lot for training too. Keeps the legs stronger!

I love mine as I have 27.5 with 2.8 tubeless and it's been brilliant on some gnarly trails and it's a breeze to ride because of the 2.8 tyres... love it... Yep, I love it when the bottom of my feet are slappin off my pedals. It’s a “crackin” good time!😊
good looking bike! Love the dark green + orange
Yeah it works well as a combo! Can’t take credit for it but friend built it up nicely👌
In 2023 they‘re not „modern“ any more … but already out of fashion again, like almost all things that were „so modern“ one day. LOL
Apart from that: what you’re showing in this video has not much to do with biking…this I call rolling down a LONG single grail without pedaling …and probably first going uphill by a car or a ski lift…
Hahahah bike check and talking about handling has nothing to do with biking… that’s interesting 😂. And the location that is frequently used for the enduro world cups with these trails included due to plenty pedalling to the top and long rough trails down but you know best 😂
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB only for down rollers…not for real bikers …LOL
Love the video...keep ride hardtail and keep having fun
Thanks! Will always have fun if there’s a bike there 😁👊
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB Will you be making more videos riding hardtail? Would love to see more hardtail riding. Everyone ride full suspension when hardtail is the most sold bike, globally.
Can't beat a good hardtail for climbs and crazy descents 😂
Absolutely! Haha 😂 ridiculous fun on these!
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB I bought a Marin San Quentin last year... thinking of selling it and upgrading to a very top of the range hardtail- full sus is cool but hardtails are for the purists 😂😂
Hahah dedication! Yeah why not if you enjoy it, the top spec hard tails can take a lot!
My legs say yes, my back says no.
I can get that. They are rough!
The beauty ( the rider ) and the beast ( nukeproof scout ).
So in other words, full suspension is for the little boys and hard tails for the men
Great video!
Coming from a full sus. its gonna be great fun
ah that'll be great! I should be trying a mullet this year and looking forward to it. That will definitely be a fun bike, nice and slack!
All I ride are hardtails.
🤘
☕☕☕
I ride a hardtail in the winter ...27.5 ,and enjoyed it so much ...I sold my full sus, for. A 62 degree head angle 1296mm wheelbase 29er ....and I blooming love it ! It's a downhill slayer ......or if would be in the hands of someone who could ride proper !
Oh wow that is mega long and slack! Sounds like a beast! I can imagine that’s ridiculously fun to ride and loves to descend!
Nice bike, pretty aggressive hardtail you have. Enjoy your bike, have fun, safe trails 😉✊✌️
Yeah it’s a great bike, borrowed from a friend. He enjoys it for sure 🤘 thanks you too!
Sounds great. Always fancied a mullet setup. Seems the best of both. Nice one 👌
After 6 years on a cube stereo 120 i am now with a whyte 901. 27,5+...I love it !!!!
Nice! Must have been a big change after 6 years. Sounds great!
Seriously , that bike in the video is awesome . i would get one if my legs and back weren't
so messed up .
I've just got a Pipedream Moxie. Can't wait to get it built. Hardtails will never die. 😃
Nice one! I know lots of people on them that love them! They look amazing 👌👍
Nicely said! Makes sense, there’s definitely lots going on there to make it ride so well! 👌👍
Without watching the video: Geometry is why modern Hardtails are so much better.
👌
I do love ny simple 29er hardtail...sometimes it doesn't cut it and my intense carbine 29er is a weapon
great to have the option of both 👌
Turn that bike around and ride it against gravity, you will
like it way better than your full sussy. I really enjoyed
watching this.
The Bird looks great 👌
still rockin my 2014 giant talon it has givin me many years of fun. last month put a new chain on it and minor Maintenace, first time since I bought it in 2014.
nice, sounds great!
Grab yourself a steel frame like a Cotic or a stanton. Makes a world of difference on the bumps over alloy
So I’ve heard! Always wanted to switch someone for a trail but no one rides a small 😂
Could you put a estimated price for the bike your using on future videos. I saw a Fox front fork so understod it was out of my price range, but nice to know ;)
Hey this is a nukeproof scout 👍. You’ll be able to see the prices etc on their site
Buying a project hardtail as a back up bike. Overall it will make the trails that are now too easy fun for me again
sounds great. I do like that about hardtails - makes the easier stuff more of a challenge!
“I’m gunna take it easy” - 15 seconds later going so fast I had to close my eyes! Legend 🎉
haha yeah I got carried away - it was so fun to ride!
Great Video, I have the same bike! What is the from mudguard/fender that you are using there?
Thanks! Ah it’s a great bike isn’t it! It’s an RRP Proguard. Got it on my full sus too. Big difference vs the smaller one I used to have for reducing the mud on the goggles!
This bike is only available in aluminum right?? Been wanting one but always sold out lol !
San Quentin 2 HT here! From BMX daze....
Nice one 👊
Crackin video! I've just rediscovered riding and am loving my Nukeproof Scout. Your video was one of a few which convinced me to remain loyal to the hardtail.
Thanks! That’s great to hear. Hardtails are brilliant. Definitely an attraction with the full sus but these bring so much fun!
Nicely done...I ride the same bike and it's a beast for sure ✌
Cheers and nice one 👌. It certainly is!
Sweet video! Looks fun! I love my Nukeproof scout 29er as well. I use it as much as I use the full squish. It gives me grins going down the trails.
Cheers! It was brilliant. Really capable bikes aren't they! Having fun - that's what it's all about :D
Great video, I soo need a nukeproof scout in my life 😎
Thanks! It’s a beast of a bike 💪
Love my Chromag Wideangle! Wouldn’t mind the comfort of a full suspension one day but until then it handles everything like a champ 🤙
nice, yeah the full suspension soaks everything up but hardtails are so much fun! 👌
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB agreed!
Great video, love the comments you made on your experience. .. you got a sub. For a beginner especially a younger rider 27.5 and hardtail good budget bike is plenty good enough for many different reasons .
Thanks! Appreciate it 🤘. Absolutely, there are lots of amazing hardtails out there to ride. Lots of bike for the money 👌
Great video That was some proper hardtail shredding !!!
Thanks!! Had a great time on it!
Love and Respect from UK 🇬🇧
🙌
That's a sweet HT, I wish there were more videos like this on the Canyon Stoic 4 its a sweet slack HT as well.
I did enjoy it. Sounds great. So many good slack aggressive hardtails nowadays 👌
Love my nukeproof scout 290 👌
Nice! Nukeproof make such fantastic bikes 👌
Love your accent
Haha thanks
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB I've never heard that accent before, where are you from?
I've got the Trek Roscoe 7 quite a bit I've upgraded when I got it, new bars stem and headset plus seat clamp , now looking at GX Eagle Axs plus Hope boost wheel set .. I love mine as I have 27.5 with 2.8 tubeless and it's been brilliant on some gnarly trails and it's a breeze to ride because of the 2.8 tyres... love it... Great vid nice to see you enjoying it Laura 😀 👍 I'm of to Wales tomorrow morning doing my pre-route check of the Tour of Snowdon when I hope to take a group out end of September... so arrive at Capel Curig tomorrow morning then Saturday ride my route and see if I can change some of it where possible to stay of the roads 🙂👍 remember speed is your friend 😉🤟
Nice! I can imagine the 2.8 is super on that. I tried 2.8 once on a friends hardtail and it absorbed loads! Yeah had a blast on this bike, shame I had to give it back to my friend 😂. Oh great, I’ve literally just left capel curig this morning! Spent some time fishing at llyn idwal and riding Antur. Beautiful place! Enjoy your route recce!
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB wow awesome 👌... and thanks 😊
Hi rider! Good info. I'm still keep all my hardtail MTB (5 sets). No doubt, superb bike in any decent on trail. Regards XC rider from Malaysia.
Hey thanks! Sounds great, that’s lots of hardtails🤘perfect for xc👌
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB Most welcone. Happy cranking & keep fit, safety. Btw, where is this track?!
Ha, You're awesome, Great vid.
😆 thanks!
Menacing looking hardtail, love it
it's a beast, my friend built it real nice!
