Having owned both a BMW E36 325i and an ALFA 156 2.5 V6, i know how well they both drive, but man there is something speciale about an ALFA that no other car has, so it'll be the ALFA for me.
There is just something special about a straight six BMW.... i also had a 325i and what a car it was. I never liked maintenance and unreliability so i refrained from anything close to an Alfa.
Ordinary guy. Previous suvs. BMW. Lexus. Acura. Volvo. Bought Stelio immediately after testing it. 4 months later still excited every time I get into it. By far best vehicle I’ve had. Don’t bother about best value, most reliable etc... it’s your choice and you have to drive it every day so choose the vehicle that you’ll enjoy every time... for me, no comparison, Alfa Stelvio!!!!!!!!
I have driven BMW's for a long time throughout my career as a Sales Rep. I had shopped the Alfa from the day it was introduced, driving one day in Iowa, I passed by a dealer in Des Moines who had several Stelvios in stock. Two days later I had traded in my 750ix Msport for a Stelvio Sport Ti. I cannot describe the enjoyment I get driving the Stelvio, it is quick and nimble, not luxurious. Always a consideration are netteling issues with Alfa quality, after 18K miles on the clock I have had zero issues. There are certainly details this SUV doesn't have that I wish it did, but what a joy this is to drive. Could use Heads Up display, and the infotainment doesn't even compare to my '15 Jeep (from the same FCA family). But I just tell myself the interior is all I really need, the dash is unencumbered, clean in a word! Buy it, you will not regret it!
I test drove the Volvo and although I was extremely impressed with the styling and interior, it just wasn’t engaging enough for me. I agree the interior is by far the best out of the segment. As soon as I drove the Alfa, I knew I found what I was looking for. Red leather seats make the interior pop more but the infotainment system is a little behind the other two. The sporty styling that’s only be available on an M series BMW, you can get on the Alfa for a much lower price. I didn’t test drive the X3 though, I find it quite boring and more a soccer moms car.
I bought an Alfa Romeo Stelvio after testing driving the Lexus RX350 and Volvo XC60. Wasn't interested in the BMW X3 because didnt like the appearance that much. Lexus was bulky and boring to drive. Volvo had better handling and performance with dressiest interior. Stelvio, however, was far and away best handling and performance with best value. Agree with youtube video on Volvo being dressier interior but handling and performance definitley lacking compared to Stelvio and Volvo much pricier. Wife even liked Stelvio better. After 4500 trouble free miles and I couldn't be happier. You've got to test drive to feel the differrence,
Volvo interior is nice but nothing more. They are making up with interesting materials more than design itself. Volvo exterior is great since S40 from mid 90s.
@@ak6877 oh nice, here were I live there is only one in a hidden parking lot, one day I saw a red one driving next to me and I completely lost my shit.
Love my X3 30i (2018). I agree with this commentary. All these variants are really good. It comes down to personal taste and needs. I liked the X3 because it seemed very well rounded. Not cheap, but a really excellent vehicle overall. I had heard some commentary about Alpha’s and access to servicing, but not sure if this is really an issue and the Volvo is very comfortable but I preferred the layout of the BMW cockpit (possibly biased here as I’ve had BMWs before - so very familiar).
In fact you have answered that question " it has been a very long time since you have enjoy driving an SUV". Want luxury? Then buy the new A6 with air. Low center of gravity and plenty of room for the whole family. Want to fall asleep behind the steering, then buy the Volvo.
Alfa for me. I've tried the BMW and the Alfa. No comparison in my mind. Volvo I still need to try, but I prefer sporty and fun to luxury only because I'd get bored after a few months. to be clear, I prefer the standard Alfa to the X3 M40i!
By the looks of it, Alfa Romeo all day n night! I tell you, all Alfa has to do come midterm refresh is to a) Fix the interior “perceived” quality by simply improving the quality of the plastics lower down in cabin, not forgetting the whole gear selection area and control wheel for the satnav/entertainment could do with a little sprucing up. b) The Satnav/infotainment needs to be ditched in favour of a way more up to date system- I hear pray tell that they have access to a decent setup via some of their other group offerings within Fiat Chrysler. There ya go Alfa! That’s all that is needed for you to wipe the floor with the relatively boring opposition! The Stelvio looks great- both inside and out. The drive is unquestionable and all for a fair price! I love both the X3 and XC60 but they wouldn’t get a look in if I was in the market for any of them. Like I said. Alfa Romeo all day n night!
I test drive the Volvo and the Alfa and as soon as I got on the road with the Alfa, I knew that was my pick and bought it that same day. The X3 is very boring so I didn’t even consider it and I couldn’t afford a M model. I’m more about the driving experience so the fancy interior and tech didn’t really sway me. However, the new gen X4 looks amazing.
The point that this and other reviews of the Stelvio miss is that it is doing the job of an SUV and an estate. It's on that basis that my wife is buying one instead of either a 3 Touring or an X3. She says there isn't an area that it comes up short to my '19 3 Touring.
I test drove all 3. Volvo bored me to sleep. BMW was good but didnt want to join the million asian women driving them. Was not even contemplating on the Alfa and it was sheer co-incidence showroom was next to BMW. Took it for a test drive and actually bought it.!! (First Edition) Have lived with it now for almost 6 months and its exciting as it was when I test drove it. People really need to realise how good the Stelvio is. In my opinion Alfa got it right on.
still happy with it? what engine did you get? any serious problem? interior still OK? sorry for all the questions, I'd like to buy one soon and looking for feedbacks
@@LIVINGSTON6 am still thrilled with it. Interior is still spotless . Ended up getting the diesel version which is incredibly economical . I still always look at the other cars I test drove and still feel I made the right choice. Go for it !!
Well, as I am dumping my huge clunky '16 x5, and wanted something a bit smaller, I drove all of these. The x3 Beamer was just a scaled down version of the x5, and the updates since my '16 just make it feel cheesier on the dash, not cooler. Still, it's solid (of course) but for my money, a bit boring. The Volvo was really luxurious, but has no sex appeal. Its squared-off hood feels very Volvo and very old-fashioned, and personally, I hated that huge touch screen infotainment console up front. Whereas the Stelvio! Oh my, what a lovely drive! I mean, if you just want a good medium-sized SUV to commute in, or take your 2 kids to soccer, go with either of the other two. They will both be great cars. But if you have to spend a lot of time in your car, and you care about how your car drives and FEELS, then the Alfa wins it hands down. The heart wants what the hearts wants...
Great review, I was always a BMW man but these days they are a bit drab, It’s close between the Alfa and the Volvo....I think i would go the Alfa on desirability but all round the Volvo is probably better
" Does an SUV has to be this sporty?" So you are telling me that being"too good" is a problem for you, then don't buy it or don't even include it in your stupid comparison! Because the Alfa is more than a car to us........it's a Passion!!!!!💓
Having owned Alfa's I find one loves Alfa's "in spite of" - not "because of". It seems the Stelvio will sit comfortably in this stable. Currently looking for a good deal on one.
They should add servicing and parts costs to the comparison, from what I understand Alfa Romeo have very high servicing and parts costs compared to many manufacturers. My pick would be the Volvo.
Stelvio. Best driver without any pretence. The automated manual gearbox of the Volvo makes it a no no. The ZF auto in both the Alfa and the BMW is streets ahead.
The review talked about the style of the interior, but didn't actually test the cars' ergonomics, e.g. how well the touchscreen and GPS worked, which had the most intuitive and easy to use controls etc. Also, beyond saying the Volvo is the most comfortable, didn't really compare ride quality, nose levels and overall refinement of the cars. An incomplete review.
BMW X3 (my choice), Audi Q5 and MB GLC are better overall vehicles. The Volvo XC60 is a great vehicle, but not better than the Germans in overall driving and the tablet screen is diverts your attention from the road. Stelvio has a confusing array of low quality options that don't blend together, but they're the most expensive vehicle close to the Macan. An excellent 1st Edition effort, but this is far from being a good choice.
Totally random, but VOLVO is the only car company that I’ve ever witnessed totally redesign a vehicle but use the exact same rim from the previous generation....AND on the Inscription trim (the highest trim)?!?! 😤😤😤
The Alfa every day, with its dynamic driving ability and performance, good looking on the outside and interior. The Bmw is another hum drum with nothing to feel proud of whilst the Volvo has the worst looking dashboard, who really needs a large tablet in the dash, that I leave at home and drive an Alfa for exhilaration and exclusivity

@@Daantjie But these Stelvios are proving to be very reliable. At least as reliable as a BMW... but that's not saying much.
I will take Alfa Romeo because it is powerful, stylish design , and cheaper than the rivals

Stelvio drives way better, but you will lose a lot of money in depreciation, you should have leased it. It competes with NX, not RX.
I really don't like the volvo exactly for its swedish design. I would definitely take the Alfa over both the BMW and Volvo.
