Sir,I am more than happy to having watched this video coz I was always confused about uses of simple and passive gerund. Thanx.
Glad to hear that!
Hi Ashish,
Hope ur doing well. Have question about perfect gerund. As u mentioned in example
He is happy about having passed the exam.
Should we consider perfect gerund having passed in perfect sense or in past sense like.
He is happy that he passed the exam or
He is happy that he has passed the exam.
Which one is mostly considered in general.
Understand this. He is just happy about an action that took place place in the past. Now, if the time of the action is important to you, it'll be Simple Past tense. And if the time is not important, the completion is more important, use the Present Perfect tense.
Your explanation is very clear.
Thank you, Bala! Glad you liked it.

Sir I have a problem with participle and gerund.
1. I saw nita reading a book. (Participle )
2. I saw John riding a bike. (Gerund)
Sir how to understand
Please reply
Both of them are present participles as they are qualifying the noun NITA and John.
A gerund doesn't modify or give information about another noun. It itself is a noun.
Hope now your doubt is clear!
Sir it is compulsory to use passive gerund after verb
I like being photographed (here it is understood i am receiving action)
But sentences like these
"Latin countries accuse being ploted by europen "
Or
Latin countries accuse European countries being ploted against them
Does second this sentence conveying the right massage which I want to convey ?
They both give different meanings. Join my live session on this Saturday on Instagram. I'll explain this in detail.

Hello Ashish, your tutoring skill is amazing. If you do not mind, can I ask you something?
He denied that he stole the money. - Noun clause
He denied having stolen the money. - Gerund
Are these two sentences the same?
Thank you so much
The meaning is the same. Thank you for the kind words!
Sir simple gerund kis time ko refer karta hai ?
She doesn't regret breaking up with you
Sir action (breaking up) has been done earlier than why we use simple gerund not perfect gerund?
Simple present tense, bit it can refer to a past tense. Here, the gerund is not intended to show any time; it just shows the action working as a noun.
She enjoys shopping. (simple; active)
He likes being given birthday cards on his birthday. (simple; passive)
Jack remembered having sent her the email. (perfect; active)
Rita was pleased about having been promoted to be a manager. (perfect; passive)
Amazingly done! 👏👏👏
@@EnglishWithAshish Thank you!
Bro Is perfect gerund is also use a noun here . Can we make it as a subject give any example if does
Yes, it's a noun. We don't use it as the subject. It generally is used as the object of a verb or a preposition.
Hello dear ashish
In one of your examples, you used this sentece, Ron was exited about having been selected for trip.
But if we change this sentece to, having been selected for trip, Ron was excited, in this status this phrase would change from perfect gerund to perfect participle beacuse it actually says, Ron, since had been selected for trip, was excited.
Pls help me, it seems to me gerund and participles very confusing and interchangable.
Hello, dear!
You're getting it right. Though gerunds and participles look like the same, their functions are very different. So, they are really not difficult to understand and indentify. Let me know if you need help with anything else. :)
I enjoy being doubted
Can i say this as alternative
I enjoy to be doubted.
Are they both working as noun and object of verb?
Yes, Asad! Absolutely.
Br Ashish
Trust this finds you in good health and vigour.
I happened to watch a teacher's lesson pertaining to Active and Passive voice. The way the teacher explained online could not be digested. Hence, I thought of getting the issue cross-checked. Please review his examples through which he attempted to convert the active sentence into the passive voice:
He likes teaching. Active Voice
He likes being taught. Passive Voice.
Here (He) is a subject - likes is linking verb - teaching is a gerund and subject complement.
If his passive voice is to be believed, the subject (He) wishes to be taught. While the active sentence says (He) likes to teach. A significant difference. A teacher becomes a learner.
If there were students in the sentence, the sentence could be put in this form that could be correct.
He likes teaching the students. (Active)
He likes the students being taught. (by him).
Regards
Hyderabad
Hi, Jaleel.
A sentence in the passive voice is different from a part of it in the passive voice. A sentence is termed to be in the passive voice when it's main verb is in the passive voice.
Everyone loves you. (Active)
You are loved by everyone. (Passive)
But if a part of it is in the passive voice, we won't say that the sentence is in the passive voice.
I like (kissing people).
I like (being kissed).
(Teaching kids passionately) is a great thing.
(Being taught passionately) is a great thing.
They both are in the active voice in both the examples. The second one has an object and the subject in the passive voice. Hope the explanation helps.
Please make a lesson on being
I sure will.
How will I use that in negative sentence and questions? Please! Some e.g
I don't like going there.
Do I like going there?
What is the difference between a perfect participle in the active and passive form and a gerund in the active perfect and the passive perfect?
Just focus on the basics. A gerund works as a noun, and a perfect participle or any particle works as a modifier.
@@EnglishWithAshish ok, I'd forgotten that. Thanks for your prompt response!
You're welcome! :)
The safe showed no sign of having been touched. Could we say this sentence,"The safe showed no sign of being touched"sir?Kindly clear this concept.more over your phone number, sir ji.
Can you please tell me what is the difference b/w perfect participle and perfect gerund?
A perfect participle functions as an adjective and a perfect gerund works as a noun.

"She admitted to having been spying for the enemy for some time." this sentence grametically correct or no?
On the enemy
Now, it is.
Sir, here the structure "to+having been+present participle" resemble which of the Non-finite verb?
Sir, what is difference between perfect participle and perfect gerund?
A perfect participle functions as an adjective, and a perfect gerund works a noun.
@@EnglishWithAshish many many thanks sir for clearing my doubt

For the simple gerund active form, in the example:She does not regret breaking up with Dan, is only 'breaking' the simple gerund or is 'breaking up' the simple gerund?
Good Video and thank you for your support!
Breaking up is a phrasal verb. Breaking is the main verb.
Glad you liked it!
@@EnglishWithAshish Thank you!!
Sir, In the thumbnail u've given four examples of gerund for Summarising ur whole video. Examples were
I love talking.
I Love being talked to.
I love having talked to you.
I love having been talked to.
If I say, 'I love being talked'......it would give sense but sound grammatically incorrect....but adding 'to' at the end of it solves the problem. Now, I am confused when to end a Gerund with preposition and when to not. I think the same issue is with Infinitives too(ex- I have a house to love in, I have a friend to play with) . Sir, Can u Please make a video on how to end a sentence with preposition. As I have came across many sentences ending with preposition.
The preposition TO is there at the end. Have a look at the thumbnail.
Ron is excited about selecting for a trip - AV
Ron is excited about being selected for a trip. PV
You said that both PV and AV convey different meanings. I'm still struggling. I may be wrong but IMPOV both (above PV and AV) are correct. If PV of a sentence is correct then its AV is also correct because PV is derived from AV.
The first sentence doesn't make any sense if RON is performing the action.
Active voice and Passive voice have specific usages. They focus on different things.
@@EnglishWithAshish TY!!! Have a good one
You too! 🤍

Hi Teacher .
what is the difference of .he dinied having stolen money and he dined to have stolen money.
thank you
The first is a present participle in the perfect form and the second is an infinitive phrase in the perfect form. Both are working as the object of the verb DENIED.
@@EnglishWithAshish Hi teacher.thank you for your valuble quick rply. are both sentences correct? can you please give me a example of the different meaning of them.or do they have a same meaning.?
They both are correct and mean the same.
@@EnglishWithAshish thank you
Hello teacher . Hope you're doing well.
I have a question. Please answer and help me understand. Thank you so much .🙏
The question:
Why have you included the preposition "to" in this example ?
I love being talked TO .
Are there any reasons ?
I think we should say :
"I love being talked".
Please let me know why you have included the preposition .
Thanks .
Hello, Hesam!
The reason why the preposition TO is there as the verb TALK is an intransitive verb.
You talk TO people. You don't talk people.
They love talking to me.
I love being talked to.
She loves looking at me.
I love being looked at.
@@EnglishWithAshish OK . What I have understood is that we use the preposition of the verb that we are using ( if the intransitive or transitive verbs have a preposition ) ( we use the preposition at the end our sentences)
Am I correct?
Please answer this one as well .
Thank you so much . 🙏🙏
Yes! You got it right.
Happy to help! :)
Hello, sir. May you have a good day. Can I say:
She does not regret breaking up with Dan.
👇
She does not regret having broken up with Dan.
I think we can use the second sentence as well as the other because we always regret about something that has already happened.
Is that correct? Do they have the same meaning? Thanks a lot😍💝🙏.
Hey, Hesam!
Yes, both are correct. 😊
Can you please tell me the difference between all 3:
Perfect Gerund perfect infinitive perfect participle
Though I know how to use all three.
But Agar Kisi Ko Samjhana ho to Kaise samjhenge ki kaun sa kab use Hota ?
2) Can you also make the same sentence in these three forms ?
Regards
Hi, Rajat!
A gerund functions as a noun, whichever form it is in.
An infinitive can function as a noun, an adverb, or an adjective.
A participle functions as an adjective only.
When these are in the perfect forms, they show completed actions.
• I regret (having kissed her). Perfect gerund as the object of the verb (noun)
• I regret to have kissed her. Perfect infinitive as the object of the verb (noun)
Note: when infinitives are in the perfect form, they only act as a noun. They can act as adjectives and adverbs in the vase form.
• Having finished the food, we started watching TV.
