These closing credits montages show one thing, to quote another announcer from another network; "the thrill of victory. And the agony of defeat...the human drama of athletic competition"
This is the first Olympics Closing Credits that actually brought tears to my eyes.... Maybe half of that is because of the amazing team of professionals who edited and scored the Beijing Landscape/Olympic Highlights montage, but I also think that it's because this is the first Olympics that received my full, undivided attention. I mean, I've always loved the Olympics, but Beijing 2008 is the one that had me riveted to my seat, and I watched as many of the sporting events as possible. It's also what led me to getting the Special Beijing 2008 Opening Ceremony DVD, and by the time Vancouver 2010 came out, I got the Wii Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, both for Beijing and Vancouver. I love this video... brings back wonderful memories. (I was actually spending the night in a motel when it aired live on TV).
Yep 2008 Olympics was one of the best I don’t know why but the 2008 games has always stood out above any other olympics every time I hear the music from remember the titans and watch the closing credits I get goosebumps and a little misty eyed
This is well written and excellently executed closing statement for the 2008 Olympics Game, it is really something that can be put into a textbook. Credit to NBC and Bob.
Credit also to the NBC team and the BGM incl. the Titan, very touching moment that brings me to tears everytime I watch it! What a lovely and peaceful moment that we all missed so much. Well done the editing team!
I can't believe it has been 10 years. For me, it was the summer before middle school and I was also fortunate to be at some of the games, best summer ever! Many great memories were made that summer in Beijing and will never fade.
I love hearing some of my favorite movie scores in this piece. You have "To the Stars" from the movie, Dragonheart, in the NBC closing credits and "Titan's Spirit" from the movie, Remember the Titans in the final highlights. ♥
Man, the 2008 Olympic games had everything. There were so many incredible stories that you forget about some of them, like I didn't remember how sad and disappointing it was that Liu Xiang wasn't able to compete. After winning China's first gold in Track four years ago with that insane hurdles performance, and then the dude legitimately tries to come out and put his career on the line, I don't blame his coach at all for breaking down like that.
The fact that you can hear a very slight sob at 8:08 makes that moment/picture even more heartbreaking. Amazing camera work, but just a terribly sad image.
I agree that it's great from that point on but I think it's wonderful from the beginning! It's actually all the same score from "Remember the Titans" starting from 6:31.
Kudos to Bob Costa not being subjective and politically influenced. Show respect to the Chinese people, it's diverse cultural history, and peaceful development. Unlike Adrienne Arsenault of CBC, was completely a disgrace on her opening remarks of China's Winter Olympic in 2022.
"All Olympics are important to the host city. These games were monumentally important to the host nation, which happens to be home to one fifth of humanity." It's pretty easy, now, in 2024, to forget that China was such a rising power and culture so very few years ago.
Thanks a lot for uploading. I saw the closing montage in 320p on RUclips for the first time a few years ago, and it brought tears to my eyes. The video has since been taken down, and I've looked for it multiple times to no avail. Imagine my delight when I discover that it's available in such high quality; I would have been happy just to see it in 320p again. Thanks again! You made my night.
Never had a first comment before. I absolutely LOVE you for uploading this in such crisp clean quality! Now, to watch the 2012 games unfold into history...
I wish the very best for America and China-and all countries-as they send their competitors to Rio in a few months time. I'll be watching a big chunk of it-when I'm not out on the town!
From 1996 Atlanta to 2020 Japan, the United States of America is undefeated in total overall medals 7 straight wins. 2024 Paris and 2028 LA will be interesting
Watched the games since the 70s. I'm disappointed to see them end every time. I guess it's the thought of 4 more years to the next. My bucket list for attending was cancelled by Covid SMH. Paris 24 next.
The closing montages are works of art. That said, was it an accident that NBC chose to have their backdrop with a picture of Mao over Costas' left shoulder? The man who was known to have sent millions of people to their death. Hard to believe the Chicoms were not lost of the significance of that picture being beamed into millions of homes around the world, most specifically the USA.
12 years later....still brings me to tears
14 years ago...The world used to be so perfect like that.

Oh my gosh! Same here! Well, minus the Wii though

Same, always inspire us again and again
Christopher Russell I know I’m four years late but this Olympic Games is what brought me to China
那时的美国真的有大国风范,主持人这气质这讲词对对手不吝赞美,这样的自信真的有魅力。13年后的现在。。。
I feel the same. I loved Bob's speech about China. Now, I'm not sure
2008 Olympic games were the most epic, EVER!! Will never forget these games ❤

Greatest Olympics ever! RIP Kobe
miss the days when ppl still can and like to get along well with each other.
Tears me up every single damn time.
Beijing was absolutely the golden and best Olympics of all time.
Thanks World.
So succinct, poetic, and perfectly edited were the end credits and montage that I still can't help but wet my eyes while rewatching it 16 years later.
Best Olympics of all time

It's hard to believe how much the world's perception of China has changed between 2008 and 2022
It's 2024 and still remains one of my favorite Olympic moments. 😊
I can't believe it has been 10 years. For me, it was the summer before middle school and I was also fortunate to be at some of the games, best summer ever! Many great memories were made that summer in Beijing and will never fade.
I lived in Beijing during the Games. As a Chinese, I thank NBC for this - a work of art!🌺
The Last Olympics Coverage in Analog TV Broadcasting in the United States it will be the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
15 years later this still makes me emotional. Just beautifully done.

one of the best ending ending credits. and one of the best olympic games.

Still one of the most iconic performances in Sports history.

Lezak's comeback was my favorite moment in Beijing.
LEZAK IS CLOSING A LITTLE BIT ON BERNARD! Chills man, always chills.
Very emotional video, every time I see it I cry. The spirit of Olympian!!!
Starting at 8:53 until the end is excellent. Incredible music with a great job of editing.
I agree that it's great from that point on but I think it's wonderful from the beginning! It's actually all the same score from "Remember the Titans" starting from 6:31.

I always loved these olympics ending credits.
Can't get enough of Bill St. James' voice!
Or for that matter, David Kaye's voice!

Greatest sporting spectacle ever conducted
Thank you!

The United States was confident and respected 13 years ago, but now…
Team USA had a better performance in Tokyo than at Beijing, so I don't know what you're talking about.
I’m not crying! I’m not crying. 😭

8:21 is so emotionally impactful. Gives me a lump in my throat.

R.I.P. Black Mamba!

The next time NBC airs the Summer Olympics, they should hire VO legends Jim Cummings and Andy Geller as announcers.
+Dana Long yes!
On the Winter Olympic side, another VO veteran David Kaye could be the sole announcer.
World changed a lot.
The final music is from "Remember the Titans" but what is the beginning music after the commentary goes off
+S Beacham ... Dragonheart - Movie Soundtrack (Randy Edelman) - Finale
Junkie XL needs to do a remix of John Williams' Olympic Fanfare and Theme!

I had a marvelous time in Beijing
Phelps 8 for 8, was the best story of these games
Oops! I just remembered: I was in a motel when Athens closed - not Beijing. Sorry about that! The dates and years help me remember where I was...

Good point
Why I am not surprised by the American lies comment?🤔😂
