The only thing i can say is that its been "hip" to spit on blizzard no matter if they make something good or bad. The fanbase is really fking retarded and stuck in the past, and yet these ppl spitting hate against blizzard somehow still play the game, or come back to it every expansion. The War Within scene is, in my view, showing Anduin essentially having his PTSD triggered by Thrall’s hand touching his shoulder just as Saurfang did when he was struggling to break free of the Jailor’s domination magic. He’s reliving that moment, like a waking nightmare, and that’s why we see this scene play out with his appearance being his present look.

I love that you get to see the strength he finds to break free of the biggest bad WoW has had so far (not getting into the whole Jailer storyline lol b/c that is a Pandora's Box I don't want to open).

I did see one theory that suggested that what he saw was an echo retained by Shalamane from previous worthy wielders who embodied Honor and Valor. Whether it was Anduin's mind or the sword, both are good theories.
I would have loved to see more on the fates of Varian and Saurfang. I would like to think Varian made it safely to the Shadowlands as he died before the machine of death broke. I know people have different ideas because of how he died but prefer to think that he is now with his parents, wife and Anduin Lothar on one of the thousands of shadowland worlds we didn't visit. As for Saurfang, as he would have gone straight to the Maw, I think it would be cool for Sylvanas to cross paths with him during her clean-up and her apologizing to him before she sends him to the arbiter for a more peaceful placement with his son.
I'm still not sure how I feel about Arthas fate. He was such a large influence on the world that it seems almost wrong to have him just fade away into nothingness. I understand that he was broken in more ways than one but I can't help but wonder if what faded away was just the part of him stolen when he first took up Frostmorne (like the others you see in Torgath) , the part dropped in the maw by Uther or a combination of both. Did Zoval combine the two halves into the crystal or is there still a part of him somewhere still in the Maw, waiting for an unsuspecting Sylvanas to find?

@@witnessforchrist7778 I would say Sylvanas was arguably worse than Arthas. People say that Arthas was more himself as the LK and was rebelling against the Jailer and his domination.... But wouldn't that make him better for trying to fight against the "ultimate enemy"? We still don't know Arthas' end plan after killing the heroes on top of ICC. Obviously he was looking to kill everyone, but he knew full well of the Shadowlands by that point I would think. All of this was just retcons so we'll never truly know, but I find it awful that Sylvanas was given the chance at redemption and Arthas was not. The true broken Arthas should have been in Torghast and he should have played a role in the story. And him and Sylvanas should have gone back to The Maw together to free the souls they put there at the end.

The stabbing of the ground is a spell called Defile. Players encounter it with Lich King fight. It’s a spell from the mourneblades. The voice is the Jailer dominating Anduin. Anduin went “missing” after this. There’s another cinematic post game that shows him leaving everyone. They have spies following him for Greymane. So on his journey he cut his hair I think.

The call backs to the Lich King are insane in this cut scene. Particularly the "my son" as Arthas's father's voice was the opening dialogue for Wrath of the Lich King with "My son" and also closes out Wrath with answering Arthas after his defeat with, "No King rules forever, my son."

  • @fighteer1

A lot of people wanted Arthas to get a redemption arc. I think that what happened here was the *only* way it could have ended. As the Jailer said: the fate of all who carry my blade is annihilation. From the moment he took up Frostmourne, this was inevitable. His story is tragic, horrifying, and... it has to end. Not everybody gets a second chance.
I think it's powerful that the four people in this scene are among the ones most directly harmed by Arthas. Jaina, his lover. Uther, his teacher. Sylvanas, whom he cursed with endless torment. Anduin, whom he dominated. Uther talks about him being consumed in the forges of the Jailer... because Uther is the one who put him there. That act led directly to this moment.
You're right that Patty's performance as Sylvanas is absolutely stellar. You also nailed my own feeling that Jaina needed a bigger role. Oh, well... we can't always get everything we want.

The problem is mostly Blizzards own words.
Before SL they said they let Arthas in piece with his story ending in WOTLK.
Then they directly tie him to Uthers Bastion cinematic to tesse SL. Thus making his direct toss into the Maw by Uther a story relevant act to Uthers journey.
But also opened the can of worms where you cannot do that and not use his soul somewhere as a propper npc.
Instead they neither gave Arthas free soul without the helmet and sword a chance to do any good as himself again.
But solved this the worse way possible by purposely have his soul destroyed offscreen and his last fliker pitied by Uther, his love of his life Jaina dudnt get a single line or reaction. Anduin who lived through the Arthas expirience to a degree didnt either.
But Sylvanas who became much worse then DK or Lich King Arthas abd just changed 5 ninutes ago got a monologue to shoo him off. Begone and forgotten.
The same Sylvanas who also lost part of her soul...and first hand expiriencef why Arthas became callous and evil.
So involving the most popular wow char, but then never giving him a single line or propper appearance. Nor let the relevant npcs talk who are closer to him then Sylvanas was how they screwed this up.

Arthas was a lost cause the moment that he stepped onto Northrend, there was no redemption for him, and that notion was enough to get the Arthas stans all salty. quite frankly the playerbase so vehemently wanting Arthas in Shadowlands was probably what compelled Blizz to do that, as people have still not let go.@@TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm

@@TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm Nothing of what you write makes sense.
Arthas story was finished in WOTLK and that within the Jaina quest to save him, just to find his heart he cut out, making clear that Arthas is lost.
Shadowlands overall is the afterlife, so of course you got dead people here, that's the whole point. The only reason for Arthas to not be there woul be that his soul is destroyed or that he wouldn't be of importance, what would make little sense, seeing his deep link via Frostmourne and the Helmet of Domination to the story line.
But again: his story was done, it was a tragic one of a deep fall into the abyss, there was no way back and overall there is little good that Arthas ever did, even the culling of Stratholme if questionable and everyhing after that far, far worse.
Sylvanas did WAY less than Arthas. Even all her doing up to Shadowlands was on the same level as the culling of Stratholme: to sacrifice innocents but for a higher goal (and she at least KNOWS that there is an afterlife, one that is bad, yes, but that's her goal, to change that - Arthas just slaughter people because they might turn into Zombies).
Arthas was never dominated. Especially not at the start with all his bad and worse choices.
And no one stole Arthas soul or wounded and corrupted it as he did to Sylvanas. That was all his choice.
Popular means little. Especially not fans who want to ruin the character by turning his whole story around. Artha's story was about a golden prince becoming a fascistic king. The final they gave him is almost too good for him and it would be a farce to give him anything more.

      @TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm 5 месяцев назад +1

@@miriamweller812 Ok you obviously miss alot of lore knowledge as you ignore alot of factors.
Let me start with Arthas. His characterisation was to be a fallen King Arthur. As such he starts as a young inexpirienced Prince and student that loves his Kingdom eith all his heart.
In Wc3 you follow his journey fighting off orcs, before you discover a plague that kills you and then raises you as undead that attack others and infect them also.
After they watch them turn they attack the other citizens also showing young Arthas the brutallity and danger. And the fact you cannot easily restrain this wild undead they become.
They then trace back the plague to grain and Kel'thuzad (Who worked for the Jailor in the new lore) who sets Arthas up to Stratholme. All tgr plan of Malganis the dreadlord.
As predicted Arthas rushes to save this major town, only to arrive to late. The grain had been distribiuted and the majority of the population had been affected.
Now what makes Stratholme grey is that as soon as we enter in WC3 and the dungeon Arthas maybe purges 1-3 people before this big city population all turn and infect each other. If Arthas didnt slaughter thus hordes with his men confined in the city,, the alternative would have veen a giant horde overunning lordaeron long before the army could have been raised and anything could have been done.
So while a cruel act it saved Lordaeron. Or at least spared maby lives the horde would have infected.
We then confront Malganis the big bad evil demon who is responsoble for all of this, who flees and taunts Arthas to lure him to Northrend. Playing on his love for his people, and hurt feelings over Uther and Jaina walking away from him over his dessision to purge.
Thr inexpirienced Arthas then sets out to kill Malganis because he belives he is the cause of the plague, knowing as long sd he is alive he will return and doom more peoole of Lordaeron.
So when the men want to leave he burns the boats. A bad action, but one that has a bigger reason.
Malganis trap however is then sprung as he has Nerubians overun them. Arthas is then informed of a magic Sword, Frostmourne and heads to retrieve it to win.
It is here Muradin reads the inscription of the Altar and elaborates that the Sword will claim a terrible price, Arthas vows he gladly pays every price and as soon as he touches the blade muradin is knockef out. (We are led to belive Frostmourne claimed Muradins soul) Arthas then goes to kill Malganis to the Dreadlords suprise and is then "Wandering through Northrend as the Sword drove him insane"
We meet him again dzring Illidans campaign, where he talks about not feeling anything as if he was dead.
Muradin turns out alive in WOTLK confirming it took Arthas soul, not Murasins as first payment. Wich also expkains why his body died and he becane undead. And why he lost his humanity.
He wasn't dominated like Anduin was, he lost his humanity to the sword.
When he is dexeated in Icecrown citadel, the sword shattered and helm of domination is lifted off he loses the blue hue around his eyes. Suddenly full of emotion he grabs for his father and asks "Is it over?". Confirming fully that while he did what he did it was an Arthad deprived of all emotion and empathy. Driven insane. Only close to death does he get a moment as his true self again.
So much like evil Sylvanas he had a very mirroed phase of evil actions, but technicly it wasnt his whole self.
Not to mention Bolvar became evil in Legion with the quests he sends Dks on wearing the helm of Domination, wich can let us guess there is more to this Helm of the Jailor does have a negative impact on your as well.
Now you do seem to also miss Sylvanas core diffrence. As i mentioned before in another comment she is outright cruel.
In the bookd she tried to kill and forcibly raise her own sister to undeath, skaughrered families during a human undead reunion and burned Teldrassil just to spite a Sentinel refusing to break.
Raises undead, uses the Plague she had been improved over snd over. Abd essencually badmouthed Arthas constantly for raising her and others. But did so herself since forever.
It's mostly shown in the reason why she got baited to duel Saurfanf in the first place. She enjoys to cause suffering, and they love to highlight how outright cruel this Sylvanas was.
Arthas in contrast raised neither his father nor Uther. And only went the extra mile if provoked, like Sylvanas did during his invasion. As he was ment to be cold and callous.
Wich shows you that it is Sylvanas that is prone to cruelty for cruelty sake.

In game when you fight the lich king and you are about to defeat it, he use that sword move to instant kill all the raid. Then there is a game event when Tyrion pray for a light last blessing and he is able to destroy the sword. At that moment the spirit of king Terenas Menethil is freeded for the sword.
In this scene Anduin "break" the sword by himself and the spirit who is freeded is Arthas.
Also, and paraphrase it, at the Wotlk cinematic King Terenas said: "everyone will whisper your name" and in this cinematic Sylvanas said "May the last whisper of your name fade and be forgotten"

It's not the player rushing to Anduin as he stabs the ground, it is Sylvanas. She rush to save him.
EDIT: Also, Anduin breaking the sword mirrors the same pose as Sylvanas breaking the Helmet atop Icecrown, even the top the helm looks similar to the sword.
EDIT EDIT: About the light of the sword, you can go back to watch the Legion trailer (the one with the airships) and notice how it glowed orange/red while Varian wielded it. Then the flow faded as Varian died. In a following Legion cinematic of Anduin visiting the place Varian died he finds the sword "inert". He takes it and has a vision of Varian telling him that he doesn't have to try to live up to any legacy, he shouldn't be Varian 2.0. He needs to be his own person, his own King, and instead do what he believes is the best for his people. As Anduin gains confidence and purpose the swords start to glow but now with the more holy yellow tone.

A lot of people give this cinematic hate because of the “cringy” interaction of Varian and Saurfang here, along with “cry baby Anduin”. What they didn’t understand and still don’t is how much mental strain this domination puts on someone. As a viewer, you want to help but feel helpless to stop it. All the player really can do is beat Anduin down enough to knock sense. As a priest, Anduin’s means of connecting to the dead and souls tied to him helped pull himself out of this bind.
The other bit of hate is due to Sylvanas’ last words treatment to Arthas. That group still hasn’t recovered from Bolvar’s defeat. Some are just too quick to react and don’t think the implications leading up to the point of this cinematic.

I mean there is mostly the way they handled Arthas in general.
1# They state they will leave Arthas be. His story ended in WOTLK.
2#They include him in Uthers story, and thus connect him to his questline and SL.
3# They bring in Uther and Jaina. And are in the death realm where King Therenas and all of the freed souls are. But nothing ever comes of it.
Not even the realisation that they could have safed Arthas at Stratholme if they were more insisting.
4# They had the chance to have Arthas freed soul with his humanity back help Anduin who was screwed by a mournblade and the same evil being. And to a small degree do what Sylvanas was allowed to do in the end.
A tiny bit of making up for past actions. They had old lore npcs show up and quests for them like Kael or Uther.
5# When they stupidly scrapped all that and had his soul destroyed offscreen then revealed as a fart cloud Uther barely said anything nor reacted.
The love of his life said nothing to hers who even kept her locket as soulless Lich King fading infront of her.
Anduin who was dominated by the same being and went through a similar expirience didnt.
Only Sylvanas (After she got her good half back, and thus realized why Arthas was evil white haired and undead.) Who met Death Knights, and served/,worked with the Guy who created the Lich King and Frostmourne. And got told by Uther that Arthas wasnt always so in his flashback.
So basicly she knew how a hot headed yet good prince was turned into a grey skinned undead evil death knight who lost his entire soul.
But still dismisses him as if he was the actual villan. Not the jailor.

Arthas was inducted into the Knights of the Silver Hand at the young age of 19. The ceremony was held in the Cathedral of Light in Stormwind City, and was attended by prominent figures such as Genn Greymane, Thoras Trollbane, Daelin Proudmoore, and Jaina Proudmoore, whom Arthas had not seen since childhood. While in Stormwind, Arthas visited the newly crowned king, Varian Wrynn, and sparred with him while recounting old memories. It's also how Lich King Arthas kills all players in the boss fight. Arthas stabs the ground and kills everyone, ready to raise them as undead champions, before the Light frees Tyrion and gives him the power to shatter Frostmourne - as it likely does give Anduin here the power to break Kingsmourne himself by parting the blade (it's very likely that the Light got its hand in that illusion of Saurfang and his father).

I never noticed the detail of the light returning to Shalamayne in this cinematic, I guess I just assumed after watching the War Within that the light had just never come back after this. It's heartbreaking to think that Anduin had it here, he had a purpose in breaking free and stopping the Jailor, and once that was done, he lost that purpose and himself, and hasn't been able to find it again.

An interesting parallel/counter I just saw - here, Anduin is shaking, holding the power of this sword, and it's steadied by the spirits placing their hands over his. He then breaks the sword, not only like Sylvanas breaking the helm but also like Varian separating it to fight the Legion in that cinematic. HOWEVER, the point I thought of was when, in the War Within trailer, Anduin is once more holding the sword, point toward Thrall, his hand and grip shaking - but Thrall doesn't "take control" of him by placing a hand over his. Instead, he steps up and faces the threat/warning Anduin is giving him by showing him that he trusts Anduin won't act on it. But he doesn't do it by literally forcing his hand. He does it by literally making himself vulnerable.

So the cutscene itself is from the Sepulchre of the First Ones raid - Anduin is a boss fight, and this is the scene that plays once his HP is down to a certain % (I forget which). So that's why the dashing towards him at the start. The stabbing of the sword is the start of like the limit break spell of the mournblade, the Lich King has done it a few times in the past. The voices sound like a blend of Arthas, Jailor (Zovaal), and Anduin's. I feel like it was just artistic interpretation re: his hair being short in the flash back, mostly because he was reliving that moment in the moment.
The other thing context wise that should be noted is that this whole expansion we have been in the lands of the dead, and neither Varian nor Saurfang have been seen in those lands, so this is the only time we get to see them. So I guess they live in Charlamaine now? LoL
Plus, Anduin is a priest! He needed a little bit of help from his two Warrior dads (and the only two who have been able to in lore so far!) to split the sword into two.
The blend of Sylvanus' music with Arthas is pretty bittersweet, I'm one of the few folk who really didn't like the Jaina/Arthas stuff, but that's because I'm team Kalec >.>

the music is amazing. while sylvanas is speaking about arthas, the arthas theme becomes the lament of the highborne, wich is a high elfish song about loosing their people in battle. There's a quest in WoW where you find a necklace wich belongs to sylvanas. If you return it to her, she sings this song. She sung it the first time, when she found her dead brother on the battlefield, killed by orcs in the second war.

I’m binging the Shadowlands reactions today and noticed an interesting parallel between Arthas and Ursoc. Both of them had been corrupt before death and both of their souls end up fading to nothing, but while Ursoc is told “You will not be forgotten” Arthas is told “May the last whisper of your name fade and be forgotten” two very different reactions as they reach similar ends. Just a fun detail I wanted to point out.
Also, while I initially want to feel like telling Arthas he will be forgotten is an insult, I feel more like it is meant as a solace. Even the way Sylvanas says it feels comforting. To have committed the atrocities that Arthas did, if you were told you would be foirgotten, wouldn’t that be somewhat of a relief? I imagine Sylvanas may even feel the same about herself at this point.

      No, it's not at all.
The FF14 Heavensward scene was gargabe and made no sense, because it came out of nowhere and with borderline zero links between the characters.
In FF14 the little lore there is makes pretty clear that souls go very swiftly to the lifestream after death, what is the reason you can't resurrect people.
The whole dragon eye thing was awful anyway, since Estinien struggled with the control of one eye the whole time, than he just grabs two for no reason, it was awful anyway.
Not even starting with how they throw the eyes from the bridge after that - especially with the other big dragon guy only 10m behind you, so yeah, why not give those eyes to the brother?
That scene was pretty much what starte the whole awful downfal of FF14's story telling, when they just could not get rid of these eyes and have to bring them back - including Estinien, who just became even more powerful for abslutely reason (well, still more reason than all the other Scions, who for why the fuck ever are all plot armor super murder hobos who just can't die).
Even the death of Shiva was already bad because it was for no reason at all. If she didn't try to abuse her primal powers to kill the Garleans, nothing would have happened.
Talking about Garlemald: also another terrible bad writing, how they just kicked the very interesting commander from the cliff to be forgotten forever.
Hell, you can talk days about how FF14 manages to make everthing 100 times worse for no reason than to avoid any effort of world building and an interesting story.

And yet knowing his fate is so close to hers, and so much more who lost their entire or parts of their souls, it would make more sense to understand him and who is actually to blame.

Unlike Arthas Sylvanas wasn't just callous she was outright sadistic. The best example is how she burned Teldrassil and all of them alive just to spite and tourture a sentinel that refused to be broken.
Another instance was slaughtering Humans during a undead and living reinion between relatives.
And much more. Arthas at his worse was cold, and had a twisted goal go turn everyone undead to be stronger to face the legion.
Sylvanas killed innocents if she felt like it. Raised undead while shittalking Arthas for raising her and others. Made deals and worked for the person who created evil Arthas in the first place, and dominated someone despite her big talk on free will. etc.
And it is the writers fault of course to be so silly with how they wrote Sylvanas, but this are all relevant in how she goes out of her way to make others suffer.
Arthas only went the extra mile when pushed. Like how Sylvanas in wc3 kept taunting him. He didnt raise any other elf like her during the attack because they didnt actively provoked him.
Compare that with Sylvanas turning a reunion of families into a bloodbath and you see a big diffrence.
Or trying to kill and forcibly raise her own Sister. Arthas didnt even raise his father or uther.. or jaina.

    • @miriamweller812
      @miriamweller812 5 месяцев назад

There are zero retcons. You got no clue what retcons mean.
Retcon is, when you for example say, that the town there got a police HQ, while it never was there before, but suddenly everyone treats it like that.
A retcon is not when you learn something new you simply couldn't know before. For example everything in the Shadowlands, because it was another dimension, so no one got any clue about it.
Even when it comes to things like Frostmourne and alike, it's no retcon, because it is explained by having this fraction that is known for its deception and lies, so it's absolutels realistic that they never told the actual facts about the blade and the helmet. And the new infos make MUCH more sense anyway.
It was always odd how the whole undead thing came from Chaos and how it was just those not even that powerful demon guys who forged it from a single soul.
A god behind it makes much more sense and also explains why it couldn't be destroyed.

The concept of this was great, but having Sylvanas be the one to give Arthas' eulogy was insulting. Uther should have been the one.
Unfortunately Blizzard was and is controlled by people who force bad decisions on the story.

Most of lore nuts for wow actually hate this one, at least the end of it. yes Arthas was an selfish evil SOB! but we were never even given a chance to try and redeem him. I would of rather tried and failed, and still had to put him down, than to have the choice not even given. Arthas was also an important character to the franchise. Had they ended at before she says "Begone." I think we would of given it a 5 or 6 out of ten and moved on. But this disgracing of a character that meant so much to us as younger fans. It was like a slap in the face on top of the horrible story telling that came out of Shadowlands. This was the last straw for me and I snapped. I had been holding out hoping something would redeem some of shadowlands narrative, but when I saw this. I was done and over it.

Arthas did nothing wrong. I'm pretty sad with the direction they took Arthas in Shadowlands.

Absolutely a total mistake on the hair..... even arguing that its a memory doesn't work. Style over consistency

This finale is an absolute joke and it's the story writers taking a massive dump on Arthas just so they could have their way and give Sylvanas, who does NOT deserve anything after what she did, the final word. It's true, Arthas was a horror, but it all started off with him wanting to do good. Meanwhile, Sylvanas was an absolute evil maniac, willfully, and not only did she get away with it, she pretty much got a pat on the back because hey, it wasn't her fault, because she was somehow controlled? But she was also clearly doing things of her own free will.
Honestly, Shadowlands was a whole new low in terms of quality of the story, it was an absolute failure from any way you look at it, so much so that in the end it's completely inconsequential and unmentionable, even in-game.

Condemned to the Maw is hardly "getting away with it or a pat on the back" lol

"Condemned". Yawn. She'll be back. Blizzard will pull her out of their ass again. Either way, she had ZERO rights to have any kind of epilogue/closing words in regards to Arthas, and even fewer rights to be there instead of being chained in a prison. Uther was the one who had the most right to say anything at all, but he was conveniently silent because the writing team who struggled so hard to shove Sylvanas down everyone's throat NEEDED her to have a last word. It's an absolute joke.

@@dustypillows5819 Condemned... sort of? She will almost certainly be back, considering time-dilation in the Maw and all. Hopefully it's just a small but crucial role before fading away again - or maybe dying and accepting death which has been a part of her larger inner conflict.

You got clearly zero clue what good writing is. You want some bullshit anime copy/paste nonsense, fine, then go there and watch your shonen anime with the whitewashed psychopath heroes, who would just come back there in some absolute stupid rule of cool twist or whatever.
You also got zero clue about Arthas and Sylvanas at all. Feels more like you are one of that crybaby crowd that just love to throw shit.
