As many problems as Shadowlands had, the environment team never fails. I loved how Bastion was so heavenly with windswept, feathery trees and grass and swooshy, curved marble almost like the islands themselves were made out of solid clouds.

I have the same opinion but i loved zereth morthis, Ardenweald and the dark ghotic vibe from revendreth. Dragonflight is to generic for me and the best region of dragonflight was just a inspiration from that region in notherend. But DF was better in every other way except in the vibe.

Genn Greymane and Sylvanas have one of the most contentious interactions in modern Warcraft. During the Worgen new player questline, you watch her kill his son Liam right in front of him, just because, and then she bombards the capitol and the surrounding lands with blight (after promising Garrosh she wouldn't use it), killing the innocents left in a hideous way.
Genn takes on the hunt for her in Legion as they both land in Stormheim on the Broken Isles, and destroys her base camp there as he chases her to where she has captured Eyir, the Titan Keeper who controls the Val'kyr, with the Soulcage, the lantern thing that Helya gave to her, in order for her to create new Val'kyr to keep her alive and to create new Forsaken. Genn fights her and smashes the Soulcage, ruining her and her people's chances for the future, and he calls that out specifically as vengeance for his son.
It's so great to see that level of storytelling, they may not be the biggest main characters in every tale, but that back and forth between them is always entertaining.
Nathanos Marris was the one and only Human "Ranger-Lord", trained by the High Elves of Quel'thalas (and specifically Ranger-General of Silvermoon Sylvanas Windrunner, who was rumored to be his lover but nothing was ever confirmed). He was killed when the Scourge decimated Lordaeron, and raised by Sylvanas' Val'kyr she took from Arthas when she broke the Forsaken away from the Scourge. He has served as her second-in-command ever since Varimathras' failed coup attempt during the events of the Wrathgate, and is now called the Blightcaller in recognition of his status.
In this cinematic he has retreated back to his ancestral home, the Marris Stead in Lordaeron, and is fighting off the forces of the Argent Crusade (an egalitarian organization of Scourge fighters that will take anyone, Horde or Alliance), when Tyrande shows up and ends him with prejudice.

Tyrande has over 10,000 years of martial experience. Yes, she is that old. Nathanos is just a normal human (although being undead, he doesn’t age like the living does) so it’s obvious who will win in a duel. We’re not even talking about night warrior here, Tyrande wins just based on combat experience alone.

Nathanos knows about the Shadowlands and that life doesn't matter much, not talking about that he's undead anyway, so already did die before that.
If people would know that for example the christian Paradies is real, they wouldn't care much about dying either.
Don't want to take away from it, just saying why he has no problem with being 'killed', because it simply doesn't mean at all what death would mean in RL (as far as we know).

I love Tyrande's character arc in _Shadowlands._ She's an instrument of Elune's vengeance, but that power carries its own price. She has only begun to pay it here. Being the Night Warrior makes her one of the most powerful characters in the story at this point in time. Nathanos is a chump by comparison.
We find out in-game that, of the various major characters that Sylvanas' Mawsworn go after in that first cinematic, Tyrande is the only one who was able to fight them off. It highlights her immense strength.
I never played Horde seriously, so I didn't get to hang out with Nathanos as much as some players. He's a very interesting character. Unfortunately, he doesn't get a lot of attention in this expansion.
Tyrande's weapons are warglaives, a classic Night Elf weapon that we see used by the Sentinels and the Demon Hunters. In adopting them she becomes almost a pure implement of battle. That circular, fluid attack style is very characteristic of them, and she is SO badass that it makes me feel a bit let down that we haven't seen her in any cutscenes before this.
The owl is Dori'thur, her companion.
As for the third cinematic, you've already watched the Afterlives shorts. We see Bastion, Ardenweald, Maldraxxus, Revendreth, and of course the Maw.

    • @LittlepipMLP
      @LittlepipMLP 8 месяцев назад +1

Not to spoil things, but Nathanos' fate here DOES come up in a later Shadowlands cinematic, so it's important to have seen this for the context, as it makes what happens then far more impactful.
I'd also like to add that Nathanos' arrogance stems from the fact that he was the first and only human ever to be accepted into the elite Rangers of Quel'thalas, who were otherwise exclusively High Elves (what Sylvanas was before she died). That's when their romantic interests began, as she was the Ranger-General and head of that order at the time, with one of her two sisters now occupying the rank. He was an important quest giver for Horde (or target for Alliance) in the original version of WoW, but didn't return to prominence again until Legion, when she began using him as her personal champion and commander.
This didn't go over so well with players, since, while he certainly would have had reason to lord over us back when World of Warcraft started, by the time he returned we had slain all manner of cosmic horrors and planetary-level threats, while this guy's still acting like he's better than us. That made the battle where BOTH factions attacked him (right before Tyrande shows up to finish him off) very cathartic for most, since well, the guy's an asshole! But as discussed, the kind you love to hate too..

@chrismaples9392 Maybe you are mixing up parts of the story, malfurion was in charge of the defense of darkshore while tyrande was in stormwind asking for military support. Malfurion trapped sylvanas and might have ended the invasion, but saurfang attacked with an axe throw from behind. Sylvanas is freed and moves on to teldrassil, orders saurfang to kill malfurion, elune pacifies him long enough for tyrande to arrive ( and for him to reflect on his actions as dishonorable, for attacking malfurion from behind) tyrande arrives via hyppogryph and us ready to fight saurfang, but spares his life since he didn't kill malfurion. She uses a hearthstone to bring him to stormwind to be healed and asks the alliance player to observe the horde occupation of teldrassil in her absence . The burning is what follows and hopefully you know the rest.

A lot of where Shadowlands failed had a lot more to do with the story progression and the narrative choices... along with the gameplay, from what I've heard from my friends who played through it. That is really to say that they felt... almost betrayed by the things that the writers did with characters that they loved for years, and had become very attached to. Yeah, the cinematics are fine, I'll give 'em that, and where you're not going to have as strong of feelings is a lot to do with the fact that you're not as neck-deep in the lore as a lot of my friends have been. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that's a bad thing, just kind of... identifying areas where you have a better opinion on Shadowlands than a lot of us long-haul players, and I am DEFINITELY not saying that you shouldn't enjoy the cinematics at all. Heck, through BfA and Shadowlands, the cinematics are the strongest component of it all, it feels like. The game surrounding them just... didn't hold up to it as much.

The main issues the community has with shadowlands imho came from 2 main issues: 1st is the timing, we had a little bit of content diluted in 2/3 months, then we had like 4/5/6 months in which there was nothing new to do, then new patch comes out and the story is clearly cut, another 2/3 months with a little story and then another big gap. Second is the story that has some clear cuts that make all seem rushed and doesn't build the villain in the right way (plus you see some god-level "perfect" characters acting really stupidly for no reason). Mix these things and you have an angry community that will be hypercritical, so when a new patch comes you need to do some perfect work if you want to save your face, but the patches were all but perfect unfortunately.

Don't know if it got fully explained on stream but here's a brief explanation of the different areas of the shadowlands.
When someone dies, they are basically sorted into a region. Those of noble and honorable life go to Bastion(the first area shown), Ardenweald(second), or Maldraxxus(third). If a soul is in need of penance or redemption , they are sent to Revendreth (4th shown) to serve time attoning, eventually being allowed to go to one of the previous three. Souls deemed unredeemable are sent to The Maw (the final area shown), basically hell.
There's much more to the story, but I don't want to risk spoilers, so that should be enough to start with.
Loving your videos. Keep them coming.

    • @Servellion
      @Servellion 8 месяцев назад

Not quite. After they atone, they can either stay in Revendreth, go back and be judged by the Arbiter and be sent to their own personal afterlife or they may get sent to one of the other four planes. You don't have to have lived an honorable life to end up in Maldraxxus and Ardenwield is pretty much exclusive to those linked with nature or visit temporarily for a cycle of rebirth if you're a deity of some sort in your own world.

In The Burning Crusade, when we go to outland, horde players find evidence of primitive orc weapons, and there are fel orcs around everywhere, who are red in color. A quest leads you to discover the mag'har orcs who are still natural brown color and uncorrupted. Because Draenor got turned into outland when it was shattered by Ner'zul opening a bunch of portals, there were still orcs who lived there that didn't drink the demon blood and go through the portal to Azeroth. In later zones you find even more orcs and that's where you meet Thrall's grandma and Garrosh, and then you send for Thrall and he shows up and there's an in game event where they show Garrosh how Hellscream killed, and was killed by, Mannoroth (giant winged demon). It ties in perfectly with the Warlords of Draenor cinematic because he knew exactly how it went down and how to avoid it. Also that is when Thrall met his wife. That is also the place where Thrall made his home in the cinematic that Saurfang visited him. When he says "this world is broken" because it literally is, it's outland, shattered by rampant magics in some places. And because of the background terrain landmarks you can actually tell exactly where Thrall's house would be in game lol.

Genn hates Sylvanas more than most cause she killed his son Liam Greymane and conquered his nation Gilneas for the forsaken (which we will reclaim for the Gilneans in the upcoming updates to the game). Also I love Maldraxxus it sure has some valhalla vibes

i think the first cinematic makes more sense if you have seen the Terror of Darkshore cinematic first as its a part of the storyline, but i don't know if he's seen it, as the videos he releases are not always in chronological order as he released the other Shadow lands cinematic reactions first.

I don't watch the streams, but the cinematic with Malfurion was dope. Shame no reaction to it here as I think it's pre-Nathanos?

As someone who mains a Survival Hunter, is Tyrande considered a Sentinel? One of the new Ascendant specs for Hunter in War Within is Sentinel. She has a Sentinel Owl. If Survival Hunter can dual-wield with those glaives, that would be awesome. People would play it more. Even the guards around Darnassus are called Sentinels. I really hope for the Survival Spec it is something close to Tyrande as a Night Warrior.

She is the Leader of the Sentinels, she formed them back in the War of Ancients but she isn't a Hunter she is a Pristess, her adoptive Daughter Shandris Feathermoon is btw the Secondary Leader. But Tyrande is more like Maiev, because every Warden of the Night Elfs is a Pristess that btw the reason why Tyrande is Trained in fighting with Wargleivs

@@hordenallimaniafan2565 -- I'm not stating facts. I'm stating wishes. I wish she could be considered a hunter.
I wish for something cool related to Survival Hunter to kick up interest and the only link is the word Sentinel.
I appreciate you providing the facts, but I was merely making a wish.
Elves in lore apart from Warcraft are natural hunters. Sentinel owl is a current ability all hunters have in their class tree although it isn't used and is kind of boring.
My statement was a stretch, but a stretch I hope is made.

not anymore, you only need a lvl 60 char for a Dracthyr, but DK and DH are both playable from beginning even while they start at lvl 10
