  • Here we go. We’re back at it with another Santa Cruz bike launch. This time we have the all-new 5010. The 5010 has historically been the jibby, playful, poppy 27.5” Sant Cruz trail bike. For this year, it sees the MX treatment as well as a few geometry and suspension updates. Does it stay true to its roots or is it something completely different? Stick around to find out.

    Fantastic review. I actually was able to demo the Hightower, Tallboy, and this one over the weekend . Going into it, I was convinced the Hightower would be the bike best suited for me. In fact, the 5010 wasn't even on my radar and only reluctantly rode it while waiting for a Heckler in my size to return for me to take out on a spin. Wow, am I glad I did. This bike surprised me in so many ways. Like you mentioned, it was the best cornering bike I've ever ridden. Unbelievable! It was so much fun! Needless to say, of all the new SC bikes, this is now the one I'm really thinking about buying. It is really so good. Great review as always. Thanks for sharing it with us! 16:29

    Definitely my favorite and the most realistic bike reviews, thank you! I currently ride a V4 Tallboy and love the way it pedals but wish it was just a bit more capable for the rougher parts of my riding. Rented a V3 Hightower recently and it was great but too big for most of my riding and didn't inspire hard pedaling at all. Sounds like the 5010 might be the perfect bike for me. Am I safe to assume it's climbing abilities are between the Tallboy and Hightower? I'm also considering the Orbea Occam but I have no idea how that would fit into the mix.
    Thanks again!

      Yeah the 5010 will slot in between those two. I think the newest iteration of the 5010 climbs better than the V4 TB. I haven’t ridden the new one yet.
      The Occam will climb better than all of the above. Descends a bit more like a V4 TB than it does a 5010 or HT.

    I've always been a XC rider and have been riding my 15 year old Superlight. Then this year I decided to to shop for a trail bike because my buddies have been busting my balls for being a snail going downhill. The trails I ride and pretty chunky so I wanted to get the 5010 this year at my favorite LBS, but they don't have my size. I don't wait to wait 6 months or more to get the bike. However, the shop has plenty of medium size Bronson, but the Bronson is too much bike for my trail. They also carry Blur trail, but I don't want another XC bike. But there's this one 2022 Pivot 429 Trail caught my eyes like a puppy in the animal shelter trying to get your attention. Bought the bike and took it out to my local trail and amazed how I didn't have to work hard going down a chunky trail. Unlike my XC 26 inch wheel, I have to pick the line going down and get left behind by my buddies. DW link suspension is awesome.

    I have a Rail 29 on order… I’m reconsidering now. I know the rail29 and 5010 are supposed to be in completely different categories; how does the rail29 compare climbing to the 5010?

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  Год назад +4

      The 5010 is a better climber I think. Although, not by all that much. The Rail 29 does a good job for being longer-travel. As crazy as it sounds I would think the 5010 is as capable if not a tiny bit more capable on the DH though.

    • @JWhat-qx8wr
      @JWhat-qx8wr Год назад +2

      I'm sure the Santa cruz is a nice bike (had a first gen 5010 which was awesome) but Revel wins in my book as they are a small rider led company that doesn't make ebikes. Santa Cruz pricing is now a joke and Revels are on sale.

We were told possibly May but definitely June/July, then August then September and now looking to be likely October. I agree on Revel as a company though. I own one and have owned 3 of their 4 bikes. Nice vid. Really enjoy your reviews. Currently I ride a Spur and I am thinking of upgrading the Sid ultimate to a 130 Pike ultimate. Already changed the sidluxe in the back to a deluxe ultimate and it made the bike way more capable. I also have a Rallon from 2021 in XL being 5'10 riding it as mullet. But I am not happy with it, so I will take it apart and rebuild my ripmo af with a cascade components link. The ripmo is more fun to me. After seeing your review I want a 5010 but I am not sure if it's too close to the ripmo and /or the Spur. As you are familiar with both of those bikes what would you say? • @bikersedge

      I think there's a significant amount of overlap between this and a Ripmo. This is more fun and playful than a Ripmo but I don't think it's really any/much less capable. The Spur is a very different bike. It's way more XC. Far less capable, but quite a bit more efficient.

Looking for a second bike that’s more confidence building on the rougher trails and one to travel with when riding unknown trails. Hey Im looking to switch for a transition spire to something more trail oriented since I have a long travel e bike that I now do most of my techy dh stuff on. I haven't had much time on an mx bike. I am 6' 1" tall and have owned older hightowers and I have demoed the spur I have also owned the last version of the tallboy. I want something that I can take to moab, that I can pedal my weekly workout lap on and that is still fast and can handle aggressive riding like whole enchilada and captain ahab and spinal tap, but that doesnt weigh 33-34 lbs like my spire does. I felt like the tallboy needed a little more travel when I owned it before and felt like it was underbiked for the way I ride ahab and spinal tap and whole enchilada but loved how fast it was on local trails. Am I going to hate having an Mx setup?? Would I be better to just go hightower?
