    I believe Carmella loves Tony. And I believe Tony loves Carmella. But in their own dysfunctional, unorthodox ways. Carmella knows Tony is a killer and will always have affairs, but he also has money and power. And Tony has her as his number one woman and the mother of his kids. They knew each other and grown through the years. Many can argue that’s not true love, and perhaps they see it that way as well, but they’ve grown comfortable with each other and their arrangement. But you cannot deny that they both care for one another, even with all the bullshit that goes with it.

    • @richard_nj
      @richard_nj 2 года назад +4

      Yes, they somewhat care for each other, but I cannot fathom how you can watch this scene and come to the conclusion that they love each other at this point. Getting back together is simply the easiest, least uncomfortable short term option for both of them in this situation. It allows them to uphold their standard of living, avoid embarrassment and keep up appearances, in regards to other people and themselves too. Reuniting means they can fall back into their habits and patterns without having to acknowledge and work through the fact that everything about their adult lives is only built on lies and deceit, they can just rebuild the facade that is their relationship and life together. There's a deal being made here in this scene, which openly includes them just ignoring their problems, Tony can move back in and Carmela will be his obedient wife again, if he pays her $600k, he's allowed to continue to cheat on her, but he needs to make sure that she won't find out in any way or come in contact with those other women. Sorry, but that's not love, and if you argue that that's their own dysfunctional, unorthodox way of love, then you're stretching the term 'love' so far that it barely has any meaning.

    • @Oddbisket

Tony responds with his usual, sociopathic brand of truth by saying his mid-life issues, also known as serial adultery, won't affect Carmela (he doesn't promise to actually stop the behavior, just implies that he'll be more careful). She really did sell what was left of her soul for that spec house. When it fails inspection, and it's discovered to be a fire trap, instead of fixing it, she has Tony lean on the inspector. Whatever morals she ever did have were gone by the time Tony moved back in. Have very little in your account and keep the rest in a trusted family member’s account...also, have a support system and make sure you pick the right girl, not one out of lust but out of prudence. Keep on your toes the entirety of the relationship with an efficacious exist strategy.

Tony can return home by giving Carmella the gift of a speck house and securing a promise to remain a loyal and supporting spouse. The Carmela character dark side in my opinion is that she willingly stays with a serial murderer and a mafia boss knowing it but complies both for interest AND fear while continuously fantasizing on having a regular life with another man.
    She has a multiple personality, one comes from her family "traditions" and the others from her natural aspiration as a woman, her need for protection, her painful fears on the future of her kids and a light-harted love for luxury.

      I don't know...I disagree. She is definitely compromising her morals and did so when she married Tony, but she does try to break away from him by trying to get a divorce. Seeing that she couldn't because every lawyer in town was scared of Tony, she did what she could in keeping busy by building a house and looking the other way. She could have said, fuck it and left Tony with none of the trappings of a luxurious lifestyle, and that's where her moral failing is. still you have to give her credit for at least trying to get away from Tony.

    • @ClaudeMagicbox
      @ClaudeMagicbox 10 лет назад +1

      tim canterbury
      Well OK, I see your point.
      On the other hand as an Italian living in Italy I can say everybody knows what the mafia is about, it's about violent and unfair cohertion of regular citizens, living a life of criminal menace on everybody and anybody (and also of course grimy killings, torture, betrayal, duoble-play and treachery)....basically a person with even the slightest morals naturally stays miles away from that habitat (BTW they are scary not funny like in the show, believe me).
      Actually I also dislike the term "mafia" or "camorra" or whatever, it glorifies this lifestyle and gives it an identity.
      I neatly prefer the Japanese term for "mafia" which is KORYOKUKAN or simply "violent group" made of course of naturally and extremely violent men.

    • @commandermark79
      @commandermark79 10 лет назад

      I don't know.. Carmela was a great homemaker, but she was more than calculated and she was so materialistic oriented.. Just look at her jewelry, so much gold on her, multiple golden necklaces and bracelets all the time , well beyond any good taste (I think Chase was sending a message with her appearance).. She knew well who she married (her uncle Eddie was connected and so was Dickie Moltisanti)
      She did try to leave Tony genuinely at one point and certainly sometimes craved for "regular life" yet fell in love with Furio, another connected man.. (the wallpaper guy Victor Musto never came to her mind again even though she implied she might look for him in the future).. After the affair gone wrong with professor Wengler, another regular guy, she confesses to her father trough the veil of tears her intentions would always be questioned cause she was married to a guy like Tony.. She realizes she wouldn't be able to change her life that easy and decides to have Tony back...Don't forget Tony basically has no choice but to pay his way back in... And pay big time, 600K just for a lot for her spec house

    I’m pretty sure my brother and sister in law have an “arrangement”. Money, status, and Power are important to both of them. They know and entertain a lot of important people. I think she’s had a few affairs. He travels for business, and has done the same. She can be a “witch” at times and is hard to live with. He is so focused on business you’d think there is nothing else in his world. Money is everything to him. I think they agreed to stay together long ago to keep the family name, business, and money all intact. She plays tennis and hangs out at the club with her friends. He travels and stays gone a lot. While my mom was alive, she was his confidant and true friend. Now that she’s passed away, I wonder how he’s dealing with the loss of the only someone he could be open and honest with. I would think a lot of high powered, wealthy, (and highly religious or political) folks have marriages like this.
