Why does Led Zeppelin have it's place at the top of the rock pantheon, well it's simple really. This was what 1969/70, it must be noted that back then no one had ever seen or heard anything like this...ever. There's been plenty of imitators since but just imagine being there to experience this for the first time be it on the album or live....mind blowing to say the least.

indeed....all the cock rock clones that polluted the 80s and beyond had no where near the sense of humor, self awareness or dedication to song structure first and foremost...IE most players would consider Pages LP setups to be a dedicated rhythm players guitar....and they would simultaneously be correct while still not getting stuck by the point....delicious irony...

That Fender Telecaster guitar is famous. Jeff Beck gave Jimmy that guitar as a thank you for helping him in his career. When Eric Clapton left The Yardbirds, Jimmy was asked to join but he wasn't ready to leave session work yet so he recommended his good friend, Jeff. At that point, it was just a regular, solid color guitar. Over time, Jimmy added mirrored disks to the body so it would flash up onstage. After a while of that, he removed the mirrors and hand painted a somewhat abstract dragon design on it and it became known as the "Dragon Telecaster". It's what he used for the first album as well as the solo for Stairway. While on tour in the States, he'd left the guitar home and - disaster: "I still have it,” Page told Guitar World in 1998. “But it’s a tragic story. I went on tour with [a] ’59 Les Paul that I bought from Joe Walsh, and when I got back, a friend of mine had kindly painted over my paint job. He said, ‘I’ve got a present for you.’ He thought he had done me a real favor. As you can guess, I wasn't real happy about that. His paint job totally screwed up the sound and the wiring, so only the neck pickup worked. I salvaged the neck and put it on my brown Tele string bender that I used in the Firm [in 1985 and 1986]. As for the body, it will never be seen again!" In 2019, Fender, working with Jimmy, managed to recreate the guitar as accurately as possible in both the mirrored disk and dragon style. If not on your list of live reactions, I hope you do his instrumental of White Summer/Black Mountain Side from RAH. It's full of more closeups of his guitar playing.

A shame YT blocked the RAH of How Many More Times, but glad you watched it. Absolutely love that concert from start to finish. Of course, their Danmarks Radio performance was also excellent. Imagine that they had only been together as a band for a few months at that time and could improvise like that. They were really "in tune" to each other. Glad you took the time to react to these performances. A real treat! :)

My understanding is the kids were told to to sit there and not move. It was this experience that ended the band appearing on TV shows because the sound was poor as it went to air. Magic of modern technology means this song now sounds brilliant but Babe I'm Gonna Leave You sound track from the same performance is the studio recording.

First time I saw this How MM Times my reaction was that they killed the groove at the end w that pregnant pause. The kids were shaking their heads to the beat then nothing. I forgot that they had the groove master on the drum kit, he throws that off beat in there right before the 4 count and It's back on. I find it extremely difficult to even try to copy that 10 seconds. He makes it look so simple.

I love the ambience of the auditorium on these songs live. Dig!! that is about the size of the crowd when I saw Jimmy with The Yardbirds ( along with Jeff Beck) in 1967 and smoked a cig with him during a break outside. Epic!! Also, I wonder how many drum head skins Bonzo ripped playing those drums like they were metal barrels, heh. I enjoy your reviews ! Keep it up!! Peace & Love.

@@juliemanarin4127 Yes, Julie , Pagey was a short dude then and really down to earth and as fun to be with. I was blessed that The Yardbirds came to my little Indiana town (LaPorte, Indiana) and played at the National Guard Armory on the floor and a couple tables. It was the last Yardbirds tour in America with Pagey and Beck. Pagey favored my Kool menthol cigs but Peter Grant didn't allow him to smoke so Pagey snuck one from me. it coat $1.50 to get in with a hand stamp and they played 2 hours.and now we know... the rest of the story. 1970 RAH Jimmy Page and 1973 MSG Jimmy Page are so different. That phase of him evolving is my favorite. I saw Led Zeppelin in 1977 in Los Angeles and can say that he was not as inspired. Regardless seeing them "Live" at this stage was fantastic for someone that recently turned 16 years of age. Afterwards, seeing him performing live with The Firm and then as solo Page on his Outrider Tour was pretty darn good. Moreover, seeing Jimmy Page perform is just a Great Experience !!! 😾

That TELECASTER that Jimmy played sounds very unique and dirt gritty ,.. .. He went to a Les Paul Gibson except for the studio because he did use the Fender at certain times or maybe he just went to the Stratocaster for that ... Joe Walsh totally must have influenced him to the point of giving it up on stage when Led was touring with The James Gang but Jimmy shouldn't have ..

    • @MusicforBusyPeople

I am not hearing the problem you're hearing using my headphones. I think I had her mic turned down a bit for the "Travelling Riverside Blues" video (or was it "We're Gonna Groove?"). Were either of those any better? I am definitely "bass-ier" than she is. Is the problem only when she is close to the mic? No matter how much I ask, she is notorious for moving too close to or too far from the mic. Can you tell me what you're listening on, or with what kind of headphones? And if anyone else wants to chime in to help me debug this, feel free.
