Love the no waste! Wish I had my commercial dehydrator. Widowed and sold just about everything. Back to canning at least!
Great video...no waste....will be doing this in the near future... always look forward to your videos!... blessings to you and your family 🙏
My mom who’s now 94🙏 would always peel the oranges and lemons and dry them; then use them in our cream of wheat and oatmeal for breakfast. Truly divine and easy to use in so many ways👍🇵🇷
Yum!!
This is crazy, earlier today I had some oranges going bad so I peeled them and used the peel for a cleaner. Peel and vinegar in a ball jar, seal for about 2 weeks, strain into a spray bottle 🙂
Yes! They make an excellent cleaner!
Wow that’s great I have requested a dehydrator for my birthday next month from my kids I hope I get so I can start a collection of shelf stable goodies.
Happy Early Birthday! 🎂
Just put in bag & step on bag to crush dried peals. Easier than hand doing it🐾💕
Cool, I want to try this and making some beef jerky when I can make time, thanks
No waste! I love it. Worth the effort too. Stay safe all 🏴 🇬🇧 💖💖
Thank you for all your videos. I’ve watched some of your older ones today on vacuum sealing. I need to invest in a dehydrator and vacuum sealer. I do not have an extra freezer so I can see how those would be beneficial. We are empty nesters so it’s plenty of space if I dry some things.
We only have a small chest freezer and the one on the fridge, with 6 people it empties out pretty fast, so the dehydrator and vacuum sealer were definitely a great investment. I’ll be doing a review later this week on the dehydrator I used in today’s video, so I’ll have a discount code for it if you are ready. 😉
@@HomesteadCorner awesome. I’m taking a fermentation course. I am headed to my sons next Saturday in Chicago . We are going to make kombucha and kimchi. Hopefully. He’s about 5 hours north of me. I’ve been trying to go up for a week every 3 months. We always have a project. Next time maybe we can dehydrate 😉
What a great idea!! Makes me think we need to get busy here with our dehydrator. We’ve only done jerky in ours so far. Thanks for sharing!
We dry everything, I’ve got tomato skins in mine right now, makes the best tomato powder! 😁
@@HomesteadCorner I never even thought of that with the tomato. Thank you for some awesome ideas!! 🤗
Shortbread with orange peels and juice is AWESOME!
Thank you so very much sweetheart 😘 also great for cooking with the elderberry syrup!
HI Jinne. I am so happy you shared how to do this. Thanks
Your welcome! Always happy to share 💕🇺🇸
Love this, great tips. Thank You !!! ✝️💟
Thanks for sharing
Excellent idea sis u prepared me for not wasting anybthig.🌟♥️👍
Great idea
Oh bummer, I wish I saw this yesterday. I just put my peels in vinegar water for a cleanser. I like your idea better. 😔
Oh they make great cleaner too! 😁
So yesterday I looked on here to see what you had to say about this exact process! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
That is a nice dehydrator. And what a great idea to do the orange peels. Can you tell me what the brand name is?
I’m assuming you can do the same process with lemon or lime peels? Great idea, thank you from England.
Absolutely! 😁
THUMBS UP!
Hello Jenny, do you use an oxygen absorber when you're storing your dehydrated skins, fruits etc.?
Could you sprinkle with cinnamon before? Or better after? I love to smell the orange.
You definitely could do that!
Do you ever grind the peels & make an orange flavoring for recipes? Like you dehydrator. What kind is it?
You can grind them up, but I usually make extracts for flavoring most foods, I love these in teas! ;) The dehydrator is a Sunglife amzn.to/2T6fyo4
👋
What about pesticides on the skins?
1:32 mentioned cleaning process 🙂
She stated she washed them with vinegar and water.
With all the pesticides they use today we just have to do the best we can to clean them, sadly, if it’s on the outside, it’s inside too.
Could you process them 8n a food processor and make a powder?
Once they are dry yes, they make a great powder! 😁
@@HomesteadCorner thank you
Were they organic or does it matter?
These were not organic, I would prefer organic, but these were free. 😉
@@HomesteadCorner Makes complete sense to me! I love this way of using all your fruit. & love your.ideas of how to use them after you've dried them 😊
Were these just naval oranges? Does it matter what kind?? We usually buy the Cuties. Would these work the same??
If grinding into a powder, would I use them in the same quantities as what a recipe would call for orange zest? Or more, since it has the inside less flavorful membranes dried too? Thanks for all your excellent information.
