Hey guys, i was just posting this on my face book and saw this pop up, Li Kwan (aka Paul Austin) was one of my many aliases from when I started out as a successful producer in 1993. I had to make up a different alias for each label I signed to as they all wanted exclusivity. I signed it to Seka Records owned by House legend Dave Lee ZR (aka Joey Negro, Jakarta, Raven Maize). Point Zero got me noticed for the first time being finally released on the major label BMG / Deconstruction. It was actually the B side of a commercial house record that got huge daytime radio airplay. However, I always knew Point Zero was the real gem. Pete Tong made both sides of the vinyl his essential new tune of the week. Paul Oakenfold made Li Kwan part of his legendary Goa mix and support from so many other credible DJ’s got me noticed for the first time. Li Kwan - Point Zero is now regarded as a trance track but predated trance as a genre. One of 93 tracks on my album Retrospective (25 years) out now on Armada Music

no, he was on point. 1994 was the peak moment in trance music, after which it started slowly going downhill before turning into the commercial overused formula of "dj friendly intro"-"HUEG BREAKDOWN"-"supersaws!"-"dj friendly outro" of early '00s which is going on exactly like that till this very day.

    • @441milachik

      @burteriksson
I hate this new style all about drop, people do not have time.
the kickdrum and bassline overpower the rest of the track. Seems to be a common theme last few years.
And Wrmusic what is so wrong about breakdowns? Just listen blank&Jones mind of the wonderful director cut.
People do not have patience today, they need instant gratification, that is why today it is about the drop and about 1-2 min. songs.
The breakdowns and 8 -9 minutes songs was great because you need to have patience get to the breakdown and 8-9 min songs have 2 breakdowns.
Simpler times, i do not think taht this technological revolution is that much great for us.
My opinion is it get over our heads,
a certain amount of technology is ok, but if it is too much and too quickly our brain/we do not adapt very good to it.
This is not only nostalgia from me. In that (2000-2003) i was only 7-10 years old i like this music back then and even now. My 2 brothers was 18-21 in that time and they like that music then and they like it now.
What I do not enjoy from the vast majority of todays mainstream releases though, is:
      - The lack of soul, feeling, and originality in many tracks. Highly generic sounds that you've heard a million times over
      - Production style where the kickdrum and bassline overpower the rest of the track. Seems to be a common theme
      - Those whitenoise filled tracks, that actually feel your ears hurting. "CHhhhhhhhhshshshshsh"
Give us clean production, clarity between each channel so we can hear all the sounds that make up the track.
      - That generic rolling bassline found in about 90% of tunes
      - Those amazing classics that are being 'dumbed down' to sound like everything else today. Terrible reworks
      - Those cringeworthy 'Disney' level vocals and cheesy melodies
      - Those cheap gimmicks such as EDM style risers that seem to fill so many tracks
All I look for really is a nice clean production, with some originality, some classic vibes and something you feel you might listen to for longer than a couple of weeks.
Sometimes I see producers boasting about 200 channels used etc on there production. The truth is sometimes the simplest of tracks are the best. Those tracks can be overdone, become muddy/messy etc. I've heard 32 channel tracks better than some of those. It's all about creating the vibe and the feeling.
Today I struggle to find almost anything I feel I can say "I' see myself still listening to this in 10 years time" . Far too much quantity over quality nowadays. Most tracks have a very limited shelf life and are quickly forgotten.
I think the move to VST's and digital over analogue equipment has also had some negative effect, but that's just my personal thoughts.

i quoted vocal becase it's a female haunting, not lyrics, and i prefer this amazing sound rather than lyrics because it keeps ur brain in a mindtrip (maybe if you listen someone singing a lyric, the trip kinda stops because ur brain try to understand what it's being said)

And it was used all over the country. It may classify as trance, but it was played by out west by breakbeat djs, midwest techno and house purists, Florida Break dj's, hard NYC techno dj's, from amateur to pro. I purchased a dj mix with 3 cd set called "Classic Euphoria: Level 2" like many dance music fans have done. 3rd track on the first disc appears this track only I thought that was the original when I listened @ the time. Apparently there is a list of multiple mixes that Matt Darey (Definitely an euphoric trance artist !) has done and this record that Trance Classics is playing here is the original from 1994. I believe it's the very first mix ! Now looking back to that DJ mix, correct me if I'm wrong. That one really sounds like the 2003 Mix.
