More EDIT: Yes turning the turbine wheel only fixes the turbine wheel and now the compressors would actually spin the wrong way if this was an actual working jet engine. I think the manufacturer made a mistake while 3D printing the wheels and printed something correctly but others as mirror images.
This video is a premiere not because I have something new and cool to show you but mostly because I would like to hear your opinion and feedback live on some things I have some doubts about. The first, shorter, part of the video, will address some of the issues with my Jet Engine explanation but the rest of the video will focus on ideas and plans for the near future where I hope you will join the conversation. The video is a bit long-winded (27min) and fully unscripted but it does get to the main point. To create a bit of a prelude, I am feeling trapped by the channel and have a strong need to produce different types of content from time to time, experiment and cover topics which I now feel are not suitable for this channel. So I was thinking about memberships and/or sub-channels as ways to do this, but I'm not yet sure what would make the most sense. I feel that I need to change the pace from time to time in order not to loose my passion for doing this. That's sort of the gist of it to get us started.

The channel is driving for answers, it doesn’t have to be about motors or vehicles. Anything you want to explore is fine by me. I’m sure it’ll be as intriguing and well thought out as everything else you do. Take care. ☯️🙏
Whats the different topic? If its similar you easily get attention on this channel but if completely different maybe an extra channel is better altough it will take a while to build up.
But as always your choice, i hate to see a channel fall from its peak
I'm looking forward to hear your ideas and topics you want to steer your channel to. You got a talent in explaining mechanical things. As long as you keep your level of quality, and this special "blend" that makes you so authentic, I'm pretty sure I will enjoy your content thankfully.
Jay Leno has a turbine bike. One of the few things I have yet to build. Heat is your chief issue. Exhaust temps as high as 1077 degrees Celsius is hard on anything close to it. As far D4A the Dodge turbine with heat exchanger was a novel invention. Higher efficiency and much "cooler" exhaust exit temps. My mentor drove the Turbine McLaren. He also built a 289 pushing 504HP@9KRPM. Black flagged at Daytona in 68. Passed inspection afterwards. :-)
From a viewer experience I tend to prefer second channels for videos that are either TOTALLY unrelated or long-unscripted videos that are not as relevant to the main channel.
And from what I can gather from other people's experience in content creation, second channels is a good idea because if you post an unrelated video to your main, the YT algorithm will first show it to your subscribers which won't like it as much as a normal so the algorithm will think your video isn't good and won't recommend it to anyone else
I personally really appreciated the change of pace/topics of your video on greenwashing, so for what it’s worth keep going off in whatever direction you feel like going, I think it’s your personality what keeps people coming back as much as the content you provide.

Dude, your delivery is what keeps me here. Analytical and personal. You love ur stuff. As long as there is mechanical and engeneering magic nobody will complain. Ppl who enjoy your content should not be idiots, or else they'd be watching donut media religiously instead of ur videos. I want to beliebe ur audience is smart, and smart ppl enjoy a rational seed and a complex opinion on topics.
Long story short: chill and do content, as long as you keep up the personal touch, rationality and god knows what else, u'll have your real audience.
Telling Donut Media content is for idiots is rude, btw... I know they are more "simple" in termes of engineering, but the videos about the Miata and many others are equally pleasant to watch. It's just not the same type of audience (like comparing LTT and Gemers Nexus, I'd say...)

I find this channel so endearing, it feels so honest and humble. You can tell this is just the channel of a guy, it reminds me of the simpler times of youtube, without that big PR layer on top of everything. It surprised me that this channel has almost 1 milion subscribers, it feels like a 100k, and I say it as a good thing since it feels so close and friendly
Well you spotted correctly that the turbine wheel was mounted the wrong way around but it's no better now. Looking from behind into the turbine, the turbine wheel will spin clockwise, and assuming you have a solid shaft, this will spin the compressor wheels clockwise also. This will reverse the flow. Your turbine blades need to be oriented in the same direction as the compressor blades, just with the high pressure (concave) side facing forwards. With the parts you have available this will not be possible to achieve I'm afraid.... However this is absolutely not your fault - it's the kit that faulty.

@71Kailee You are 100% correct. Nothing d4a did was wrong. They sent him the wrong turbine wheel for the combustion section. All wheels in a turbine engine (compression and combustion) must either be clockwise wheels or anti-clockwise wheels, not a combination.
They way d4a explain things in a language that is not his first language, is truly outstanding. I remember commenting that I wish all teachers would have this ability. Keep going D4A!!

Yes the turbine part is made incorrectly.
The angle of all of the blades in the same shaft must be "parallel".
There are multi shaft engines that may rotate in opposite directions but again on each shaft they are all parallel to each other.
The spark is left running continuous when in very wet/snowy conditions.

As I've come to realise, I keep coming back to certain channels not because of their specific content but for the personality of the people who run them. I'll follow you through anything you do, whether it's riding bikes, doing more personal or political stuff or anything else. For me it's simpler to have it all in one place, but I get the point of having several channels for separation.

My favorite channels on RUclips are driven by the people making them exploring things that genuinely interest them, such as yours. I have a certain, potentially misplaced for sure, faith in those creators that something they want to chase down and look at, I may find interesting as well, even if I would not have thought so initially.
Your delivery, pacing, clarity, and engagement are the major things that draw me. Exactly what topic is being explored is less so. Thank you for everything you've enabled me to enjoy so far. I'm sure I'll continue to tune in for what comes in the future.

You must prioritise yourself irrespective of how it might affect your viewership. The means by which you satisfy your need to make content of a different nature is irrelevant. If you are feeling constrained and it is beginning to take a toll on your health and wellbeing, something must change. Better to sunder your audience than to be beholden to them.
You've always done what you want. You've never backed away from that. You've always let idiocy from the commentariat bounce off of you. Do what you want to do - we stick around because of you and your character.
I am a casual who just rides a motorcycle and wants to broaden his amateur knowledge of the vehicle of his choice. And I find you as one of the best sources of good, no nonsense information about engines etc. It is a niche. But you are exceptionally good in that niche. Keep it up, man.

As somebody who has only been following the channel for a few months but has watched every iconic engines, engine boot camp, and boost school video, I'd like to say I'll watch just about anything you post. As a long time petrol head, I find your videos both education and entertaining and I'm always looking forward to something new. I believe the sub channel was a fantastic idea and as someone who is Starving 4 Answers, I look forward to diving into Riding 4 Answers. Thank you for all of your terrific content.

To echo many others, your content so far on explaining mechanics, diving into complex engineering solutions, what makes specific engines so great, etc has been absolutely amazing. Don't stop bringing us the quality content you have been producing.
Personally some of your "unexpected" content feels super genuine and its a nice change of pace. But I think "writing 4 answers" or as someone else mentioned "striving 4 answers" is a great idea.I find it crazy that having dubbed content had backlash, tons of other channels do that all the time. Having a separate channel might help with getting the video seen by what RUclips deems as the right people. Also I think RUclips membership sounds perfectly reasonable.

Dude, I would love seeing varied content in your channel, because you're one of the few content creators that can do an unbiased and honest work. Your videos about the greenwashing and the transition to electric cars are not only good dose of varieties to the channel, but also things that people NEED to see these days, because of so much sensationalistic and biased journalism of today.

A little feedback from someone who watches a lot of RUclips videos: When I see a channel for the first time, and like that presentation, I want more of that, and I don't want it to change. In fact, I saw on one person's channel where he changed his intro, and people bitched about it. It sounds very petty, but I understand this. When I watch Star Trek, I expect the same intro every time; I don't expect it to change. For me, it's part of the whole package of the channel. Now, if a channel wants to go in another direction and starts a second channel, to me that's fine, that's a whole new ball game.
I'm not a petrolhead, I don't own a car or motorbike (only an ebike), but I do like your videos about how engines work.
I think there's room on this channel for a larger variety of RELATED topics. But some things that are quite separate from engines and vehicles, is probably better suited on a separate channel.
A simple way to think about typical compressor stages is that the rotor blades increase the velocity & total pressure of the air & the stator vanes diffuse the high velocity air, slowing it & increasing the static pressure and density. Yes, that's simplified, but it's a handy way to think of it.
At this point, your approach has become so thoughtful, insightful and intuitive, I'm sure you could turn a makeup tutorial into a thought provoking look into cosmetic materials sourcing.
What I mean is, once you reach a certain point of success, everything you say either supports or challenges the status-quo and is inherently political. What I liked about the green washing video was that you talked honestly on a topic that everyone has experienced but not everyone could articulate. I'm excited to see what you do. No matter what it is.
Feedback:
1) Existing content in its current form is great (you present well and are always interesting). But no surprise after 8 years you want a change...
2) You've earned the trust of your subscribers, so feel free to mix it up. Sub channels and off piste videos work (harrys farm/garage)
3) I'd pay for this material. Don't need the gimmicks (voting, live stream, q&a - it's all bs). Keep the price lower by not offering the fluff. Just regularly deliver stuff you *care* about

Do anything you want to do, people that are on the same page as you, will follow you along ( I’m in).
First off, take pride in the fact that you are good at what you have been doing. The way you introduce topics, information and ideas is great. You come across honest, knowledgeable and present it in a way that is entertaining. I get it that even if you are good at something, it can be your passion but you can still feel you have become repetitive and bored. So if you feel you need a change, go for it. You don't know for sure of the reactions until you just do it. If you are that unsure of the reaction/acceptance from your current audience then yes, just do a totally new channel directed towards the other topics you want to explore. This way you can keep the two things separate ish and you won't alienate one group of people who enjoy x content by not y will still get the content they enjoy and keep them coming back to see more of the same. People hate change and can say and do stupid things just because of change. I think you will do great however you chose to purse the next chapter.

This is YOUR channel, we want to spend time with YOU. Not that fake friend that tries to impress, so do what you want on and with this channel. If people move on then let them, and if people stick around then also great, that is not your concern. Your concern is being yourself.
You should do what you enjoy doing. Don't fall into the trap of doing what you think will give you views. It won't end well for you. You'll lose passion and engagement, and your viewers will notice that. Do what you enjoy and are excited about. You don't have to stick to one kind of content, so long as it's something you truly enjoy and love. Keep going, man. I'm rooting for your success.
Sub channels are the way to go for radically different content. You are right. Once you get past a certain size, you get a mass of humanity that expects a particular style. I'm with you. I like randomness but many don't. A new channel solves your major problems with 'unexpected' content. Good luck.

Yes, you have cultivated a following of motorheads. But we motorheads would like to think we're not just one trick ponies. As you, we too have a divergent appetite for myriad subjects. Motorcycles, economics, public policy, philosophy, who knows what, the world is an oyster, so to speak.

Love the channel brother. Your video on the reality of EVs and ICEs is definitely one of my favourites. If you start another channel, I would follow that too, but it's your channel, your rules.
Paywalls are like old CDs. Nobody wants to buy the whole album for one song. I don't like having any more recurring monthly payments than absolutely necessary, and sometimes I wish there was a way where I could just send creators some cash directly.

Hi! I've been a fan of your channel for a while and I absolutely love all your videos. I'm also one of the people who like to see something unexpected from a channel that I fancy, but it is also perfectly understandable that there are people who expect only one specific type of content from you and it might be confusing for some subscribers and new viewers to see multiple types of videos. I personally think a seperate channel is the best solution, as it makes your content available to the most ammount of people who actually care about what you have to say and create (I'm one of them!). I will fully support any videos you make as i find your point of view (at least in the greenwashing video) very interesting but at the same time entartaining. You seem like a very authentic, honest and open person and I'm eager to see the future of your videos!!
Much love brother. I 100% enjoy the way you review, and/or discuss different technologies. It may be too close to home, it may not interest you. But I think you would be FANTASTIC at reviewing things. Such as the newest car so and so produced, new engines that are to be released, new turbos so and so makes, even covering Tesla’s or other electric vehicles and their new innovations. I think with enough growth, you may find yourselves even getting paid by companies to review their stuff. Obviously that is a slippery slope, but you are a steadfast person with morals. Not to sound like a broken record, but I think it is something you are already fantastic at doing.
Dude, I keep coming back because I always learn something cool here. Really don't care about the quality of the video or audio, the part that keep us here is the content that is extremely great for engine nerds like me (and I think that everyone here too).
Also, it's your channel as you said, you can do whatever you want, I love how humble you explain and teach us here, that's a humility leason behind the technical one. The secondary channel is a great idea (many youtuber use this method), also an option is to use playlists, title themed videos or something to easily know which kind of video is in front of us before viewing it, so we can decide if it matches our mood before watching it.
The only thing I can ask for is for you to keep doing this, and if for you to keep motivated enough we need to see some random video, I think it's a fair price.

Hello I am enjoying your videos and think we feel the same way about engines and doing your own work on project cars.. I have a 1986 Nissan D21 with Z24i Electro-injection and a 1988 WD21 SE-V6 with VG30i. I got them broken down and nearly free now both on the road from mostly junkyard parts and cobbling. Your vid on L series engines got me here and was really good. Great job getting the Toyota in order from someone who knows what it takes to do this on a budget.
I started another channel, and put everything that I wanted onto it. Then I had one video go crazy with views and suddenly people didn't like my content as much. I have a bit over 350 subscribers on that channel because of that one video.
So, I talked to someone who pointed out that my content was too vastly different, and would draw a completely different audience.
Because of that, I opened up a second channel (and I am planning to work on one or two more) to have those desperately different types of content separately listed.
I also renamed my channels, but that was semantics and advertising.
Congratulations on realizing you are in a pickle. I hope that you create more awesomely great content.

Dude I really enjoyed watching your channel. You were jumping on turbo and I just ran to the beginning of the caveman doing the aspirated motor and watched it all. Loved the one explaining the impact of the electric, showing the thermoelectric of your city... the one riding bicycle in the olimpic infrastructure... the ride to Mostar. The ride countryside with the bike... Loved that 3rd person camera driving in the snow... the epic engines... dude... just do your stuff accordingly to what your heart tells and it will be just fine watching it. For 2 years I worked with an engineer who knew a lot about turbine engines. I had many questions. I believe I understand the technology. But they are awesome.
To put this straight out. I like how you explain things, I watched a single video about differences between two strokes and four strokes, and I binged watched a lot of other videos, just for the delivery. So, yeah: do whatever content you want and love to do, don't get bored about your own content, or it will feel boring :) Cheers!

Your video about learning to ride n getting lost really gets me excited about riding my bike to explore the nature, those areas outside my city that I wouldn’t have thought about in my daily routine.
Finally last July I did my first long distance (for me) ride, an 800km+ tour with my wife. We had a great time n really loved every moment and ever since we tried to make time to ride around every other weekend

I am in aviation and have been working a long time with turbine style engines. Something that has always been interesting is how turbo-shaft engines work and now the newer high-bypass turbo fan engines. Truly amazing how the turbine engine has been adapted.
I can't speak for others, but I'd love to see more riding content, stuff like Midwest MX or just raw footage. Riding for answers makes the most sense.
I thought briefly you were saying "writing" instead of riding. Riding yes, i also am interested in riding.

2. Detailed and complex engeneering themes, explained to the point.
3. Different themes. like combustionengines and stuff around it(how a turbo works and why it flutters)

There are many engine and car-related channels on RUclips, but yours is one of my favorites, and I've been following it since I discovered it. I see that you have the tendency to address philosophical and sociological aspects of technology in general and transportation in particular, and I am therefore not surprised that you are interested in going in this direction. I'm sure that if you do, it will be super interesting and insightful. I will keep following whatever you do. Oh yes. Personally, I love seeing different, interesting topics come up on this channel. The fact that you care enough to fix something as simple as a backwards turbine wheel says a lot. I like the convenience of all the content coming from one channel, but if you feel it better to do another channel then go for it! I’m excited to get to see more personal and laid back stuff. I like how you described it as just being more “human”. Either way, we’ll be here for you. Keep it up!

Nice explanation, but the turbine blades are stiil "wrong". With the direction of roation of the turbine disc, the blades are still angled incorrectly. The turbine disc would turn in the opposite direction.

My reasons for always coming back to your channel is that I love your insight, your knowledge, your way of explaining, your love for mechanics and the way you explain it. I'd personally enjoy videos of you enjoying the hobbies we all share and I loved your greenwashing video as well.

I don't know, If you watch the great dudes on Throttle house, but I just finished watching one of their videos on their sub-channel and the name of yours came to mind instantly: D4A extra. Simple, self-explanatory, doesn't create any expectations about the content :-)
I will say that you’ve been the RUclipsr I’ve most consistently watched for a few years now, and ive never come across any problems, because whatever you’ve had in hand has always been interesting and useful in one way or another. I really do understand the want for an anything and everything kind of channel, and honestly, seeing a little more humanity in a guy never hurts, in fact I’d argue to say that it helps. I personally am all hands on deck for a secondary channel if you’re up for the task because it’d be beneficial for too many reasons to count. The most important reason I’d say is you and your personal health and drive. We can’t have our favorite videos if the creator isn’t there to create them in the first place. As for memberships, I really respect your opinion on a pay wall, because things like that can ultimately do more harm than good, or not, it’s just how you run them that determines how they go. Obviously there are people who literally cannot afford any sort of membership, which makes it unfair for them. So, maybe, you could have more of a support membership for the people who actually support the content and wish they could do more to contribute. As a reciprocation of their membership, they could have small sneak peaks on projects, or just, access to simple, fun videos that don’t necessarily support much in the way of bigger things? Take a grain of salt on this because, I’m not sure how to run anything. I’m not a politician, nor do I have business experience in anything whatsoever, I’m just a guy with some opinions. Finally, the name… I was thinking “Dirty Hands, Clean Answers” or “Fabbed Answers”, something like that, because answers has to be in the name. It’s just a given, lol.

8 years making good informative videos and sticking with it on top of real world stuff going on in the background isn’t easy. A couple of channels I subscribe too have stalled and some of the creators had to diversify with sub channels because they felt constricted and even lost interest in creating stuff.
Watched your nitro motor remote control video illustrated how much more diverse your interests are and how you’d integrate some of what you do here into fun other avenues to share with us on another channel, one more unscripted and certainly more free flowing.
In a nutshell a second channel adds to this one as it’ll show people in practical applications some of the things you explain here. Explaining something then sharing how it actually works for you or even delving into other topics is expanding on the person, not just the content. Good luck in the venture 👍🏻
You could talk about almost anything and I'd listen - listening is mainly what I do with most of the RUclips content I consume. You have a gift and a talent for delivering peaceful, soothing, and interesting content. Follow your creative interests and things will eventually fall into place. Doing that has served me well in my career despite going through similar periods where I've felt stumped or trapped.
Bro just keep up the good, keep creating these very informative videos, never loose your creativity cuz that is what brought us to your channel in the first place

I would totally be behind an "anything goes" channel. Often times that brings the best kind of content. For example, noriyaro does live streams of visiting car meets, Q&As, and many other weird stuff. Personally, I'm not into motorcycles, but I'm into rants about all kinds of topics, so I might enjoy the bike riding vids.
Memberships are a good idea too, for these prices, many people coul afford it.
This was great, thank you for providing the content you've been putting out. I hope you keep working on whatever inspires and excites you because it's always more fun to experience something from someone who truly enjoys what they're doing rather than performing a task to satisfy the masses.
Just a note though, the turbine is still made incorrectly as the fins should be oriented in the opposite direction - the "scoops" on the blades should be nearly perpendicular to the incoming flow of exhaust gases and oriented with the "easier path" (i.e. slope) being towards the rear of the engine.
To be honest I come here to learn about things about engines or engineering, but I've seen a lot of old and new videos and I really like the way you do it. My short answer would be => second channel, or clear playlists
I thoroughly enjoy your content, and credit to you for correcting mistakes! You cover complex subjects clearly and understandably, It saddens me that people need to spread hate when you've clearly put so much effort into breaking down a subject. Make the content you want to make, your passion shows in your videos no matter the subject!

You know what, I do got to say, I really appreciate a channel like yours not strictly sticking to one type of content. It's informational, it's factual, it's sometimes instructional, and even sometimes it's opinionated, but it's coming from someone whom I believe is very knowledgeable about the topics being discussed.
Don't take this the wrong way, but sometimes I think of you as the more serious version of RCR, Regular Car Reviews, which is another channel I love, and as though they present some factual information of course, they are definitely meant to be funny.
I remember you were talking about electric vehicles in an apartment complex, and I remember you getting into some deep philosophical topics, and you know what, that stuff I think is gold: not being afraid to step out and do something unconventional, a lot of people put themselves in a box and are willing to do that.
I, like so many other, come here for the variety you bring. Be you. That's what I stay for.
