Here are some more tips on how to adapt your wardrobe to your new lifestyle:
I always show you how to adapt your capsule wardrobe to your new life changes, and today I’d like to show you how I’ve transitioned my own to a more suitable summer capsule wardrobe.
This summer capsule wardrobe was very different for me. As you might know, I’ve moved to Lisbon, Portugal and I am very happy about it.
You can see a video on why I've decided on this big move here.
However, the hot weather here doesn't match the summer capsule wardrobe I had in Germany where it was suitable for the cold weather.
I will probably have to rely on my autumn capsule wardrobe, but there are some months left to adjust before the cold weather sets in.
So I will have to adjust my summer capsule wardrobe and all upcoming capsule wardrobes to a new climate and lifestyle in the upcoming seasons.
This blog post will show you how to adapt your capsule wardrobes to different lifestyle changes that you might encounter.
My personal capsule wardrobe should serve as an example.
The methods I will show you don't have to be applied just to a transition to hot weather.
They can be applied to your own changes and personal wardrobe.
How Can You Tell When It's Time to Update Your Capsule Wardrobe?
The weather here is very different from what I had in Germany. It’s warm, dry, and sunny every day in Lisbon, while in Germany it is rarely warm, mostly cloudy or rainy.
A big-city move like mine can be a good reason to update your capsule wardrobe. Cold weather changes can't be ignored either.
Another problem I often help my clients with is a change of jobs or a promotion.
You might have lost weight and your new capsule wardrobe needs adjusting.
Or you gained weight and you need to adjust your capsule wardrobe to a more comfortable level.
Entering motherhood is another big reason to start looking at updating your capsule wardrobe a bit. You need to make it more practical and comfortable for the years ahead, right?
No matter, what personal reasons you might have to update your capsule wardrobe there is always a way to start. And that is a wardrobe revision.
    Capsule Wardrobe Revision Done Right.
I’d like to give you a few practical tips and advice I’ve shared with Farfetch on how to do wardrobe decluttering, organization, and off-season clothing storage.
They’ve worked for me, my Wonder Wardrobe students, and my clients for years. I’m sure you’ll find them useful.
I have seasonal capsules, I do wardrobe revisions, and only purchase clothes that go with everything else.
A clear sign that you should declutter your wardrobe is when you keep adding new items regularly, but still, wear less and less, or even go back to wearing the same old clothes you are used to.
What to Keep in Your Capsule Wardrobe
I would advise keeping clothes that make you feel happy, clothes that help self-expression, clothes that fit right, fabrics that do and feel good, clothes that allow mobility, clothes that make you forget you’re wearing them.
What to Let Go of in Your Capsule Wardrobe
The clothes you should pass for now for your current capsule wardrobe are those that don’t fit you and need adjusting every minute, clothes that guilt trip you into exercising, clothes that hide your ‘flaws’, clothes that ‘flatter’ your body type, clothes that are too tight to allow natural movement, clothes you can’t wait to take off as soon as you’re home.
It should come as no surprise that you should also get rid of garments that are broken, stained, too small, too outdated.
Also, you can let go of clothing or shoes that don't suit your lifestyle/ comfort level anymore or garments that you can’t wear anywhere.
If you do wardrobe revisions every season or at least 2 times per year you will not need to spend any time decluttering. Basically, it prevents clutter altogether.

I also got myself a "confidence booster" dress this year and loved it! A little more casual, but still chic for nice summer events, comfortable for my job, a cup of coffee in my favorite coffee shop and even practical enough for the playground!
I also discovered that I actually prefer midi skirts to shorts - more versatile in the German summer :D they work perfectly during hot days, but also on a little bit cooler days with a sweater and maybe sneakers (love my Veja sneakers ;-) ) instead of sandals on hot days.

My summer capsule wardrobe worked well this year because I bought more clothes to adapt to a couple heatwaves. Unfortunately those items (shorts & skirts) I can only wear for a few weeks in the English weather but I packed them away after the heat wave and treated them like a "holiday capsule" within my summer capsule basically. Now, I have less options but I don't mind too much because it's been varied. I like having 2 capsules in a season. Autumn in comparison is going to feel very long and boring ... I might add a few things to have more variety.

    • @wonderwardrobe
      @wonderwardrobe  2 года назад +7

Thanks for sharing! Looks like you had a great time with your summer capsule. If you liked having 2 capsules in 1, try to do the same in Autumn. The first can be a transitional version for September where you can mix summer and autumn things, and the second one for October-November can be much cozier and warmer for those cloudy and rainy days 😉

2 tops I bought last year before all the lock downs started can finally debut as regular wear in my office now, but come next month I may have to switch back to a wfh lifestyle again...
Also, I am still delaying on weeding out some old items to make space for their replacements, preferring to wait until my schedule stabilises.
I believe changing your wardrobe slowly and after figuring out your new environment/lifestyle is the best way to go at it.

Your capsule is beautiful-the new pieces fit perfectly! I’ve noticed in my style journey that I don’t wear some of my older pieces as much as I feel I should, usually because they are made from synthetic fabrics and are less comfortable, or are less cohesive with everything else in my capsule.

I'm happy for you! I moved to the countryside and still work in the city, but because I worked from home and everything was closed, I haven't adapted my wardrobe yet. I've been toying with the idea of a garden capsule, practical ánd nice, maybe loosely based on Landgirl and vintage style

@fg K thanks for your concern :) I'm buying some second hand already. I think sturdy corduroy or jeans, maybe dungarees would be lovely. If the fabric is old fashioned quality I'll be fine with most jobs. And I do use old clothes. But they're usually mended already.

This is a great video for me right now! We are getting ready to travel to Portugal and I have already put together my travel capsule, and your video has helped me be comfortable with what I have. I can tell from your color scheme, and perhaps the styles that look so great on you that we perhaps have different body types and styles, but your concepts are right on, particularly when it comes to changing lifestyles. I spend half my time in Santa Fe, NM and half my time in Boston, MA - two very different lifestyles, and I still after 10 years am having trouble finding the right seasonal capsule items for Santa Fe. Your selections, I think, would suit my lifestyle in Santa Fe much better, so I am going to use you as my model and muse! Thank you!!

Normally I'm quite consistent with my capsule wardrobes, but this year is a bit different as I'm pregnant and a huge shift in clothing was necessary to accompany my new body shape. Normally I have bigger hips and a small waist, but now my belly is a lot bigger so most of my clothes were unsuitable.

Hi! I love the idea of capsule wardrobe, but find it hard to apply to North California climate, most of the year the temperature is between +10C and +26C, and temperature change is not seasonal, it can change a lot throughout the week. I find myself using my spring, summer and autumn clothes all the time. Do you have any tips for this?

    • @elisa4620
      @elisa4620 2 года назад +1

Maybe consider a year-round capsule wardrobe instead of a seasonal one? And withing this you could have modules for various climates and/or events.
Or, instead of a capsule wardrobe, you could opt for a curated, conscious wardrobe.
